Wow. Ron Gallagher at Maximum Velocity is the secret "health" sauce more people need to know about! I've been a nurse for over 20 years, and I have a PhD in Nursing, so I love evidence-based practices. But let's be real--no doctor or therapist has all the answers. Their knowledge is limited by their training, research, and hands-on experience. I should've gone to Ron sooner. I had four very active friends get "fixed" by him after being told to just rest by multiple physicians--lower back pain, slipped discs, bone spurs (osteophytes), plantar fasciitis--you name it. But because he doesn't take insurance, I hesitated. Big mistake. I love running and have been doing lifting group classes for years. Over the last five years, I've dealt with tenosynovitis in my foot, lateral hip pain (trochanteric bursitis), and lower back pain. I chalked it all up to aging and having four kids. I also had frequent urination after having my kids, but I figured that was just part of life after childbirth. Wrong. When I saw Ron, he educated me--he told me there are four levels of training to get the maximum health effect, and most people skip levels without building a proper foundation. That was me. My weak pelvic floor was a major contributor to my hip and lower back pain, and I had no idea. Ron explained that there's little to no treatment for women who've had episiotomies, and a lot of my issues stemmed from not strengthening my pelvic floor properly. What?! Then January hit. I went back to the gym after a month off, had a back day in class, and my lower back killed me afterward. I saw a couple of healthcare providers and was diagnosed with an SI sprain. Again, I was told to rest. I did. After a month, I tried Pilates and yoga. Every time I stretched, it made things worse. Another month passed, and I realized--here we go again, another five months to recover. I was miserable. Sleeping, standing, even walking was a struggle. Finally, I caved and saw Ron. And wow. I injured myself running and went to a doctor who was very pushy on diagnosing a sprain. I eventually admitted I tripped three runs ago and that was my diagnosis, I was handed a wrap for my foot, some pain meds and sent on my way. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AT OTHER CLINICS AND DON'T GET A SURGERY UNTIL YOU SEE RON. Ron's clinic is a walking laboratory of people who had injuries that have tried everything else and have recovered. Many so called solutions just help temporarily and do not address the root cause of your injuries. These fixes are driven by insurance companies who do not charge for strength exercises to fix your problem. Many orthopedic surgeons stopped referring pre-op patients to Ron because they no longer need surgery after seeing him! I had tennis and golfers elbow for two years. I tried resting, icing, needling, watched every YouTube PT video and had multiple physical therapy sessions at highly rated places in town. Some of these helped in the very short term, but my pain always returned. My sons are travel hockey players and had groin issues. Ron was recommended by a medical professional/hockey dad. Neck injury, I went from a 10 out of 10 pain level, 100% of the time with numbness and weakness in my dominant hand in early February 23'. And I had little to no hope. If you need a physical therapist Ron, Derrick, and Kirsten are the best. I had a recurring hamstring and back injury for several years. I went to a different physical therapist back in 2019 who got me better enough to be able to run a little. But the injuries kept coming back, despite religiously doing all the exercise and warmups they had given me Maximum Velocity got the underlying injury rehabbed and started me on strength training to prevent being re-injured. In a very short time they had me back to running 25 miles/week and doing some speed work, with no pain or injuries. It was over 3 years since the last time I could do that. They really know what they are doing. And when you work with them for pt or strength training, you work directly with a physical therapist every visit. This will be long, but I feel it's important to know why Ron & his staff is the best in Las Vegas. Back in May, I was in agony. I was in excrutiating pain, and nothing was helping. Doctors were baffled. The pain was in my back/butt/hip, going down my leg, to the point where I could not even sit up, let alone walk. I went to pain management, saw several doctors, and instead of getting better I was getting worse. I couldn't function. I couldn't sit at the table to eat dinner. I couldn't even sit on the couch and watch TV with my kids. The only relief I got was laying flat on my back. This went on for a month. I had many medical issues over the last few years, and this was something new that began on top of everything else. It was torture. Here's what I tried before going to Maximum Velocity: 1. Did CT and MRI. According to the docs, there was nothing alarming. It did mention some bulging discs, which is why we tried some things listed below, but no doctors saw anything too bad. 2. Injections to SI - first one worked for 2 days, second and third did nothing 3. Injections to L2,L3,L4,L5 - none of those did anything 4. Nerve blocks to periformis muscle. The first seemed to help a bit for a few hours, the second didn't. 5. Was in the hospital 3 days - that was useless. They just gave me pain meds but refused a consult to anyone to actually solve and find the source. 6. Lots of very strong pain meds - they don't touch the pain 7. Steroids - didn't help 8. Chiropractor - didn't help 9. Massage therapist - helped a little, but didn't last 10. Acupuncture - didn't help 11. TENS unit - this is the only thing that did help a little, but not enough to enable me to function 12. Massage gun - helped a tad when it was bad, but also not enough 13. Neurologist. Had no idea what it was, and just suggested nerve testing, which was scheduled a month away. 14. Stretching - looked on YouTube and tried a few things, but I didn't really know what to follow because I didn't know the source of the problem. In desperation, my wife posted on a healthcare Facebook group asking for help. Many people responded with suggestions and things to try.... ONLY 1 person physically called us and said "I'm a physical therapist, I'm not conventional and I don't take insurance, but I think I can help". This was on a Friday, I'll never forget that. Ron came in an hour earlier than usual that following Monday in order to meet me. He did a full evaluation - asked many questions, did a full history, and examined me. Within 2 weeks of seeing him, I was functional. Let me be crystal clear, I was not 100% and I was not out of the woods, but I was able for the first time in WEEKS to get around, stand, and sit without excrutiating pain. I got progressively better over time and am now doing a strengthening program and functioning normally. I've always been very active but have been dealing with knee discomfort for the last few years; and just always managed to "push through it" during physical activity. Ron is an amazing physical therapist. As an active 25 year old, it was so challenging when I was hardly able to walk due to pain in my knee and hip. I have had 3 knee surgeries and was going to go in for another exploratory one (before meeting Ron) because we could not figure out where the pain was coming from. I had also tried hyaluronic acid injections in my knee to reduce the pain, but was finally referred to Ron by my doctor after nothing else helped. After a thorough evaluation, Ron discovered that I was compensating for the pain by trying to walk/move in a manner that caused more inflammation and pain. Our alignment and movements impact how our body feels and works, so walking, squatting, and running appropriately and correctly is extremely important. I came to Ron at Maximum Velocity about 2 months ago, barely able to walk, using a crutch and feeling overwhelmed with pain and failure. Three months had passed since my knee surgery and not only had I not made any progress, I felt like my body was crumbling around me. My other knee felt like it was giving out, my back was in constant pain, and the post-op knee was weak, bent and swollen. In short, I was desperate. I was back in the United States for just a few months before having to return overseas where physical therapy options were very limited. Meanwhile, I wondered if I would ever walk normally again and if the summer was even enough time to make a dent in my recovery. Fast forward to the present day, I haven't used a crutch to walk in weeks. I can walk up and down stairs, do squats, and have experienced a metamorphous of healing physically and mentally that I never thought possible in such a short time. My life has changed from feeling broken and hopeless to feeling strong and optimistic. One of the most important aspects of my time with Ron has been education. Ron has taught me how to interpret, categorize and address my body's movement and its relationship with pain. Without this, I think I would still be sitting with my icepacks and TENS machine waiting for the pain to get better. I am so grateful to Ron for everything. Hello! I'm a cross country runner & it being my first year I injured myself greatly - giving me a limp for the longest time. I even took a break off the season! Going to see Ron now for only four weeks with a five year old neck and shoulder injury, have been through the mill with conveyer belt text book therapists, using passive modalities, he is one on one, rare to find in this town , he listens to you, and tries to get to the root of the problem. I travel 60 mile round trip. I started seeing Ron after I injured my foot, yet again, participating in a triathlon. After seeing my doctor I was diagnosed with ruptured tendons in it and he wanted to do surgery to fix them. This would have been surgery #6 on my feet and the 4th one on this foot alone. After my initial consultation with Ron I was convinced that I could get through this injury without having to have surgery. After evaluating the way I walked, my hip strength, and my single leg squats, he came up with a plan that addressed not only my foot injury but also my improper biomechanics that lead to the injury. I started working on strength exercises that day. I saw Ron twice a week for about 2 months before I was able to continue my plan on my own. I went into my eval having pain with walking and just finished a 5k about 30 seconds off of my PR. Ron treats the body chain and not just the injury. This helps address other imbalances that may have contributed to the injury. He is able to do this by working for "himself" and not the insurance company. Ron is simply great. His unconventional approach to physical therapy is every bit worthy of the name of his practice. I came to him with shoulder issues brought on originally by swimming that I had been trying to get rid of unsuccessfully for the better part of the last 15 years! I had seen PT's and doctors with no results (unless re-injuring your patient with the wrong, run-of-the-mill type exercise/stretch program counts). Ron evaluated me and determined the issue to be rotator cuff weakness as well as all around stiffness. His patience and devotion to educate his patient is unheard of in my experience. He devised a program for my recovery that included sessions at the clinic and daily homework, and we went to work right away. So far, I have seen him three times at the clinic and have been doing my daily assignments for the last 11 days and the improvements are unbelievable: improved range of motion and strength, and most importantly, the very movements that would hurt and re-injure me through the years are already possible without pain! My therapy program is spot on, and is "personalized" for the specific issues I have. Ron is very careful not to hurt you while at the same time he does not shy away from pushing you to the limit to ensure minimum recovery time with maximum results. So far my expectations are blown and I cannot praise him enough: at the age of 46, I would not have believed such results were possible in less than two weeks! read more

Ron is like no other! If I could give him 10 stars, I would. I have never met a Physical Therapist that is so dedicated to his patients and loves what he does that much. He truly wants people to get back to life! I followed him from his previous location to his new place that he owns and operates. First and foremost Ron listens to you, genuinely cares and then takes his time to explain and educate. He is a physical therapist who goes above and beyond and inspires you to get better. He is as much of a physical therapist as he is a psychotherapist. Pain and disability are not only physically challenging but can also be emotionally crippling. Ron addresses all of the aspects of your injury both physically and emotionally which is key since You the injured one has to believe in yourself once again and do the work to get better and to maintain that improvement. He arms you with everything you need. He doesn't get scared off if you've had major orthopedic surgeries. He helped me regain confidence in my body after 4 major surgeries. Before I met Ron I had seen a handful of physical therapists and got sick of them telling me to rest, slow down, brace, immobilize, ice, heat, US, massage and stretch, etc. They rarely put much of the emphasis on the most important part! The strengthening!!! Most of the time in physical therapy would be spent between heat and US, interferential and ice with maybe 10-15 min spent on strengthening. Nobody explained to me that pain is weakness! Another problem I saw with many of the other PTs was that they did not take the time to listen. They treated me based on the surgery I had and gave me the same protocol everyone else having had that same surgery was given which is why I did not get better and continued to have surgery after surgery, etc. It's a delicate and fine line after injury or surgery and you need to have the proper guidance for success. If you don't then you are stuck in a viscous cycle of pain, weakness and disability that so many people get stuck in (myself included for many years). It's so important to have the proper guidance. When to push, when to back off, when and how to progress. Ron will surely show you the way. If you want to get up and move and start living and enjoying an active life again go see Ron! I had 3 surgeries on the same hip and 1 shoulder surgery and a severe ankle injury before I met Ron. I went from being a Salsa dancer, runner, downhill Black diamond skier and tennis player to an injured, weak even at times disabled person. Now, after working with Ron, I am doing swats with up to 75 lbs. I'm doing 20 lb lunges, push ups, jumps and most importantly I'm back to dancing Salsa again. I never thought that I could live an active life again but Ron made me believe it and helped make it a reality. I have seen elderly patients come into his clinic in wheelchairs and walk out of there briskly after some time. I came into his clinic barely walking with a walker and 5 weeks later was walking again unassisted. Don't let the fact that he does not take Insurance deter you. It's worth every penny. Actually he is worth much more than what he charges. Usually an Insurance Copay costs $35-$60 per visit anyway and you see the therapist for maybe 10 min. Then you have a PT tech the rest of the time and usually a different one every time. With Ron you get him personally for the entire Appt. Knowing what I know now I would have even gone to see him when I was younger, healthy before all of my injuries for preventative purposes to ask how to train properly, to run properly, etc. to prevent injury. There are no words to describe Ron and his talent for getting patients back to enjoying their favorite physical activities! He is simply the most amazing physical therapist I have ever met, and believe me, I have met many. He single-handedly was able to progress me from barely walking with the use of a walker and in tons of pain after hip surgery and serious ankle injury to being able to dance Salsa once again. I first met Ron Gallagher in 2013 when I started having problems with my left hip. At that time I was 37 and have already had labral surgery on right hip in 2012. I'm extremely active, ex competitive lightweight fitness girl who was competing at the national level. In addition, I am a Board Certified Physician Assistant, practicing medicine for the past 12 years. Little did I know that the two previous PT that I had seen post surgery did not help me progress back to normal. You see, as they looked at me, they saw a fit person who "knew what she was doing." Yes, I know how to workout, for the most part have practiced proper body functions & mechanics, and get myself at the most leanest levels a stage can honor. BUT, I did not have the tools or knowledge on how to properly rehab myself back to normal. I was discharged by PT when I was about 85% better (twice)!!! Why didn't I say anything about this? To be frank, I was left believing this is as good as it gets! Pretty depressing for a very active female who no longer could squat, run , perform impact workouts and even wear most high heels!!! I could see how committed he was in helping me, and for the first time, someone gave me hope that I will be back to performing all the previous workouts I had stopped doing for the past few years. I left that visit feeling good and stayed compliant with the routine. In about 6 weeks I was doing all the things he had said I would do! The first day I ran again, I almost cried! That same month I went to Hawaii and climbed the stairway to heaven, a steep vertical climb that I never would have attempted if it had not been for Rons passion in helping me!!! Since then, I have seen him for a hamstring issue, for my neck and now currently being treated by him for knee pain. I actually trust him to diagnose me moreso than most physicians I've seen, and he is absolutely the first petson I contacted when my knee started hurting last week. He loves what he does, and it shows. What's that saying, "when you love what you do it's not considered work, but a passion." Ron is awesome! Under his guidance, I overcame an injury that plagued my running for over a year. After working with Ron as a PT/coach for just a few months, I ran a 10k in 40:49, which is a PR, and a half marathon in 1:30.52, which is right on my PR. These results are huge for me! I used to think that my fastest days were behind me, but I no longer believe that at all. When I first contacted Ron, I had been battling a hip/back injury for over a year. This injury caused me to limp (literally) the last four miles of a half marathon. Afterward, I couldn't run more than five miles without significant discomfort, and I had a dull ache in my lower back that was constantly present in my daily life. This went on for months. I tried all the usual things: Ice, foam roller, stretching, a chiropractor, and diagnosing myself on WebMD. None of this worked. I finally broke down and asked my PCP for a referral to a physical therapist. However, when I went in for my appointment, the physical therapist told me flat-out that there wasn't anything he could do to help me because I was "already pretty fit." After some Googling, I came across Maximum Velocity Physical Therapy. I was intrigued because Ron describes himself as running/triathlon focused, which is EXACTLY what I wanted. I sent him kind of a crazy, desperate email, and he replied back within hours. My immediate impression was that I'd be in good hands with Ron, and that impression turned out to be 100% correct. During my first appointment, Ron identified several weaknesses that he thought were contributing to my injury. He prescribed some strengthening exercises and told me that I'd be running pain-free in no time. Frankly, I did not believe him. How could I overcome a year-long injury so quickly? But it turns out he was right. After several weeks of working with Ron, I was able to run long and hard again. And equally amazing--that dull ache in my back finally went away. Thank goodness! Several attributes set Ron apart from other physical therapists I have encountered: He is relentlessly positive, has a passion for educating his clients/athletes, and genuinely cares. Plus, he knows how to work with runners and triathletes, which is a rare find. These attributes also happen to make him a great coach. I had a fantastic time working with Ron during my last training cycle, and I'm looking forward to working him in the future. This is not a decision I take lightly; I'm very serious about my training and racing, so it's a big deal to have a coach I trust. In short: Ron has my highest recommendation. Ron is amazing! I went in for a hamstring strain while training for a full marathon. He was highly recommended by many runners. He was very informative and answered all my questions. He did an evaluation of me and recorded my running on the treadmill. Suggested a slight correction in my running form and a few days later my 18 mile long run went off without a hitch! After dislocating my elbow I was in a lot of pain and could barely extend my arm. When I made my first consultation he was incredibly understanding and respectful of my privacy and circumstances. He was straightforward and honest about what we could and couldn't do. Over my six week period of physical therapy he was motivating, positive, and incredibly patient. I am incredibly happy and grateful to say that after my time working with Ron I am able to fully extend my arm and I am back to normal mobility. Ron has been amazing for our whole family. My wife and son especially both had problems that they'd struggled with for multiple years (and advice like "just stop running" from doctors). Ron has my wife healing herself and getting back on the road running where she loves to be. For my son he helped idenitfy the mechanics of why he was hurting and helped me son really understand the 'why' first, then worked at his level to get him strength where he needed it. If I could give Ron 10 stars, I would. When I first met him a couple of years ago, I was not able to run without calf compression sleeves, and a distance of no more than 3 miles. Ron helped to get me out of compression sleeves & said he would have me running SIX miles within two weeks. Admittedly, I was not a believer. For years I had run 3 to 3.75 miles with terrible shin splints for the majority of the run, to the point that I could run no more than 3.75 miles. Two weeks after seeing Ron, not only was I running SIX miles, I was doing so without calf compression sleeves AND I began training for my first half marathon! Ron is TRULY amazing. Approximately 6 months ago I had foot issues. My foot pain was so severe that I would literally be hobbling halfway through a run. My ankles felt like they were going to explode. In a moment of stupidity, I saw another PT, who was less supportive of running, and stated, "You only have so many miles in your body (whatever that means)". He also suggested running on absolutely flat surfaces, wearing orthotics in my running & everyday shoes, and stop wearing sandals & flats. I thought an electric wheelchair was in my future. I also visited a Foot & Ankle specialist who suggested I stop running, and "Bike or swim instead". I find both of those activities dreadfully boring. My husband suggested I visit Ron, as he was able to help me in the past. Once again, Ron pulled me from the depths of despair :-) and made me believe in myself and my ability to run. I'm back running with absolutely NO ISSUES, NO RESTRICTIONS, NO ORTHOTICS, and training for upcoming races. NO ISSUES AT ALL. He gave me some running form tips to help minimize soreness and make me a more efficient runner. I made it through the races just fine! Forgive the novel...Had somebody told me I would be a different person when I walked out of Maximum Velocity, I would not have believed them. Hearing Ron talk about athletics previously at a triathlon seminar, I knew that he had a great deal of knowledge. A triathlete acquaintance had also gone to him and continues to do so with great success. I went in originally to see if Ron could assist me with my running. I love athletic events, especially OCR's but decided to try triathlons. I hate running. My body was giving me issues and I hit a wall. My body would no longer comply with my training, and I was close to giving up. Instead I took one more chance to see if I could excel and figure out what I was doing wrong. After all, running is required for all of my events. Why run from it? No pun intended. What Ron did for me, no other professional has been able to do or help give me answers. I went in to get answers regarding running. He is doing that. Each week, I am progressively getting stronger and faster. Beyond that, he is helping me rid me of my chronic headaches. I've had a daily headache for 15 years. This was my life. This impacted my training and every aspect of my life and not in a good way. Doctors wanted to give me meds and put me on disability. As we talked, Ron figured out what could be causing them and started therapy right away. Each week, I have fewer headaches. Last week I went 5 days straight. It was a body mechanics issue. I have since cried a few times out of joy and relief. Above all else, Ron educates and explains everything throughout the session. I love being so in tune with my body and what it is telling me during my training. My bootcamp trainer and athletic friends are already noticing a difference. I'm a runner who had been suffering from achilles/calf pain off and on for the past few years so I decided to make a consultation appointment with Ron. He performed a functional exam and also evaluated my gait while I ran on the treadmill. Afterwards he took the time to explain to me what we needed to do so I could run pain free. Over the next couple of weeks, Ron gave me specific exercises to help strengthen and activate my hips/glutes. What I really appreciated from Ron was not only did he patiently answer all my questions but he also gave me the tools so I could become a better and injury-free runner. I saw such improvement in my knee with Ron after having a really rough surgery, that I followed him from his previous place of employment to his own business. I had been in an immobilizer for 6 weeks after surgery and was very down about how long it would take to bounce back, if I even could. This being my second surgery on the same knee, I'd already dealt with my fair share of physical therapists and I could tell right off the bat when I met Ron that I'd struck gold. He listened carefully and adjusted my exercises to fit my specific needs and my goals! I wanted to run and was starting to think I never would--I am running! Ron is truly a runner's best friend! What more can you ask for in a physical therapist? Ron is not only a great PT but he has the expertise in running, the passion to make goals a reality and the personal experience of being an athlete himself. I started working with Ron after 2 years of running on and off with ongoing calf pain. I had been running for years without any problems until I was in the middle of my marathon training. My initial injury led me into physical therapy which lasted for months. I was then referred to an orthopedic who told me to either stop running, or if I had to keep running, to run flat. This seemed pretty stupid but I admit I tried it. Well, the calf pain continued. I kept asking lots of questions about why this was happening and did not get any answers. All I heard was stop running. Luckily, I asked the right friend for someone to help me which is how I was referred to Ron. By that time, I could not even run a mile without severe pain. In my initial evaluation, Ron not only found the source of the problem but answered every single question I had (and I had many!!). My calf issue resolved quickly and now Ron is working with me on several upcoming races. He truly listens to what I have to say, develops a plan for me that isn't too crazy but gets me out of my comfort zone just enough to show me that I am capable of more. I can't even count the number of times I said, "What is he thinking?" when looking at my training plan but now I get it. I'm amazed at what I have been able to do in such a short amount of time. I found Ron randomly since his location is close to where I live, but I would have traveled across town had I known what I was getting into. I've been running for about 18 years and I thought I knew a fair amount about running, stretching and injuries. Why I went to PT: I had been planning to run the Las Vegas Ragnar race and hurt my hamstring about 3-4 weeks prior. I was worried I would have to drop out of the race if my hamstring didn't improve, which is why I sought physical therapy. I found Ron to be very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He blew my mind with all of the information and method that he used to treat me because it was the exact opposite of what I would have expected. He also told me to not stop with my training runs and he came up with some good strategies for the training and the race. After only 3 sessions, my hamstring felt a lot better and I was able to run Ragnar. I even got a PR on my first downhill leg, and I was able to run without much pain my 2nd and 3rd legs. Just finished with my first evaluation appointment. It went GREAT! Ron is super friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is very clean and well equipped. Ron educated me on how my improper biomechanics are the root cause of my foot pain. We talked about my history of foot ailments, evaluated my strength levels, worked on some strength exercises, watched a video evaluation of my leg movements and I left with some exercises to do at home until my next appointment.
