Saw the great rating and reviews, so I decided to bring my daughter while we were out and about. The line was wrapped around the shop (which is twice as big as most other shops). The place across the street had no line at all, which told me I needed to wait in this line. It moved fast, so not bad. I got my daughter two strawberry with sprinkles because I didn't realize they were a little bigger and thicker than the regular shops. I got an apple fritter because I'm always on the look out for the best one. I was not impressed. Something tasted off about it. I'm not sure what they do different. Threw more than half of it away. I also got a cinnamon roll because again, always looking for the best. It was HUGE, and only 99¢. Unfortunately, I was much more disappointed than the fritter. It needs a ton more cinnamon goo. I could barely taste it. It was much like eating the packaged cinnamon rolls you get at a grocery store, just bigger with much better icing. I am still giving 3 stars because I anticipate the glazed donuts to be much better. I look forward to trying a glazed and a smokie next time. Then I will decide if I like this place or not. read more

The donuts are delicious, however, they are a little on the sweet side. If you are going to head to the shop, the cinnamon rolls are a must-have. My only complaint is that on a Friday morning at 7:45, you are still going to be waiting in line 20 minutes to get donuts. On the plus side this is how good the donuts are, that at any given time a few dozen people are willing to wait in line for something that is available on almost every corner in Texas. read more

I live about 5 minutes away from Max's Donuts and about a year ago went two Saturdays in a row. Then I realized...I don't want to be a fatty!!! LOL. This shop sells an assortment of donuts (glazed, chocolate glazed, candy glazed, donut balls, cinnamon rolls, bear claws, eclairs, etc.). The prices are extremely reasonable for this day in age. The cinnamon roll is only $0.99 and keeps me full for half a day if not more. I stopped going here for one reason only and that is because they are SO GOOD that I can't stop eating them. I would say that consuming 2-3 donuts here would be my caloric intake on a regular day (roughly 1,200-1,500, short girl probZ). So I have to be careful. If you haven't been, definitely go check it out. They have a small menu, not many drinks or anything and not a fancy shop. But it's always busy on Saturday mornings and for good reason. I believe they achieve their crispy, sweet texture around the outer layer of each treat by double-glazing them. At least that's what a little birdy told me once! donuts here are good. they might be the best in allen, though i think it speaks more about the quality of the surrounding area than it does the quality of this joint. i will say though that everyone needs to have their neighborhood donut shop. growing up in la, i had a go-to donut shop every where i've lived. bummed that the shops out here aren't open at all hours, but if you're craving a donut before noon, there are a lot worse places than this. read more

It's probably a good thing that I have to take a long ride from Richardson to get to Max's because they have the best chocolate glazed donut I have ever had in my life!!! Way back in the early 90's Max's Donut Shop provided donuts for sale at Allen High School during lunch for 35 cents each. I remember enjoying them way back then and now...much older :) read more

Best glazed donuts around. Old fashioned glazed is also on my list. This place has become a weekend ritual for my son and me. The beef smokey are pretty good too if you go in for that sort of thing. We have lived in Allen since 2002 friends kept on raving about these donuts were from the East Coast and typically are harder to be impressed. These donuts are really great, I took 2 dozen into our office not really expecting anything but a thank you, however everyone said these were the best donuts they ever had. I just ate what is THE BEST chocolate glazed donut I have ever had, and this was at 1pm, mind you. Not even fresh out of the bakery! This donut had substance, not just sugar-fluff that felt like I barely got a hint of the heaven a donut can provide. The donut is large and more dense than most donuts. Simple, basic donuts that taste great. They continuously cook new batches so the donuts are often warm. About twice the size of regular donuts, but their prices are the same or cheaper than other places. Great value, great taste, great service. Don't worry about the lines, it goes fast. read more

Ouch. Called Max's Donuts, an Allen institution, a week in advance to inquire about 4-5 dozen for an Allen High School school bus trip to St. Louis. Was told to come in at closing time on the day of the trip and we'll "work something out". I wasn't looking for a giveaway to the cause, but possibly a discount for the same students that have supported Max's since they grew baby teeth 17 years ago would be a nice gesture. No discount. These donuts were five minutes from the trash can and Young charged full price. What was the point in asking me to come in at closing time, anyway? Thanks for giving back to the community.
