First and last time here. How do you run out of donuts at 10am on a Friday? Nice people but seriously... how do you run out of donuts? I'm not talking "glaze" or another type... DONUTS meaning "this is what you sell and you're completely out of stock." In one aspect, the donuts are obviously good because they ran out. On the other hand, if your donuts are that good, how bout planning accordingly? ... Meaning.... Make more? Have more in the back... Just a thought. Not one word about "We should have more in 20 minutes"... NOTHING. Just "We're all out of donuts" and that's where we are. And I suppose they're just going to ride the clock for the next 90 minutes(?) I don't know... maybe its just the Operations/ Project Manager in me. I don't like to see people with their "pants down" (unprepared). I don't like to see disorganization where it's not necessary. And not that I'm trying to tell others how to do their job or run their business... but you'd think they'd have inventory on reserve and "ready to drop" when they notice certain inventory getting low. I am flabbergasted that I walk into a well-known/ highly popular place and they're standing around with no donuts at 10am on a Friday. Three people behind the counter and they're like, "Yeah we're all out of this, that and the third..." ANNND they don't close until 11:30. That's insane. I walked out in disbelief. Is this really where we are today... that people no longer take pride in their jobs or business? I have no idea how long they've been in business but I'll just say this... "YOU should know YOUR business." There was no excuse for what I saw that day. And to see three people standing around... I was mad FOR whoever the business owner is. They're just giving money away. I'm sure there's a lot of hype around this place but I'll never know. You can't miss what you never had. Oh well.... 1-star for at least having friendly staff. The star wasn't truly earned because Yelp forces you to give that... at the bare minimum. Think about that. read more

I have driven by this shop numerous times and the few times I decided to stop and check them out, they were closed...at 9am... Not this past time though! Their posted hours say 5am-11am but they close as soon as they run out of donuts. This place is popular so definitely arrive early. I arrived at 7am and was able to get a half dozen assorted donuts. I was the 7th or 8th person in line but couldn't have been there more than 5 mins. The staff works very quick and efficiently! When I got home to try a donut, it was incredible! They aren't special gourmet donuts by any means but they have a perfectly balanced flavor. Not at all on the bland side but also not overwhelmingly sweet either like a glazed donut could typically be. Went there for my first time today. Long lines but efficient. I put my order in at the order line. I move over to the pay line and they give me my box and I paid. I left got home with someone else's order. I purchased 10 glazed and 2 sprinkles so I could brighten my daughter's day (boyfriend breakup). Not able to that no sprinkles in the box should have checked it first. Lesson learned. The place smells wonderful and easy to get to. Today I really felt like eating some donuts. While my kiddo was playing on the playground I was yelping some donut stores nearby. Max's Donut Shop stood out with a most and highest rating. I rushed to come here around 10:30 am, praying and hoping that they still have some donuts left. I guess more patrons were rushing to get here as I saw some customers cutting me off in the parking lot and to park before me and enter (Don't worry fella.. won't take your donuts away!) The dining area is still closed and they have stickers on the floor to reinforce social distancing! They have three large fridges filled with lots of drinks! At 10:30 they were out of some flavors (we love raspberry filled donuts and they were out of them). But we were able so score their famous cinnamon roll, beef hot-dog roll and their jalapeño sausage roll. Perfect for light lunch/brunch. My kids and I finished it within couple of bites! Now their donuts! I love how they are not too sweet, the dough is soft and melts aways in your mouth! Where have you been all my life Max's Donut?? Customer service is excellent here! They are so friendly and accommodating! They will also warm up your hotdog roll if you need to! One favor I would ask all customers.. if you can and remember, bring cash! These are the best donuts in the DFW area. You need to get your donuts early because they will sell out.

I was raised on Max's since the 90s when it first opened. I remembered hearing that they were changing ownership and naturally, what you expected to follow did. The original recipes were changed, quality significantly decreased. Max's used to be my favorite because of how unique their donuts were. They were dense yet fluffy, fresh, homemade. Now, they are so insanely thick and over iced I can't even enjoy it. Their Apple fritters don't even look like Apple fritters, and definitely do not taste the way they used to. Even their kolache dough tastes dry and poor quality. RIP to the Max's that we used to know and love. Today will be my last trip there. read more

Um how have I neglected to write a review for Max's until now?!!!! This is by far the BEST donut place, ever! In my opinion REAL donut isn't all fancy with cookie sprinkles or m&m's on top, a face drawn on top or weird flavor additions. A real donut is light, it's fluffy, and when you bite into it you taste so much and yet it melts on your tongue. The frosting is thick enough to stick to your fingers, but not past-y, and actually tastes like a real flavor. It makes you want to savor every bite and when it's all gone you definitely want another one. A real donut is basic, it's simple, but the taste and structure of the donut are super tasty. Max's offers REAL donuts. A real donut is also made fresh daily, or in Max's case, every couple of minutes because they sell so fast! If we could afford the calories we'd get Max's every weekend, but alas we can't so we visit monthly instead. There is almost always a line, but bring the kids in their jammies and sit a while. People watching will entertain them for quite a bit. Or just send the hubby to pick some up and bring them home. Want to order ahead? You can! We ordered 2 dozen recently for my son's birthday and it was super easy. When my husband arrived they were fresh and hot, they definitely hadn't been sitting there for hours waiting to be picked up. I was a guy who grew up in Ohio. I was on my path to be a professional firefighter\EMT. Then 911 hits. Suddenly everyone wanted to be a firefighter. And let's just say the job market was more or less non-existent. Some time passes. I was being driven into the workforce in one of the numerous manufacturing\factory jobs that persisted in my area. I grew up watching my father pull 16 hour days in the factory and to be honest I had no desire for that noise. So, I head to the recruiting station. Which at the time housed all branches of the military. Except the Coast Guard. ( Naturally. ) I was like a walking meat stick walking in that door. I was first accosted by the Army recruiter. Who I shut down quick as I honestly hated the thought of running for miles for no reason. The next fellow was the Marine, all splendid in his dress blues. " We run everywhere! " Yea. no. Ill pass thanks. I walk passed the Air Force office. Which had it's door closed and the lights off. ( This became funny once I became acquainted with the Air Force jokes. ) So I get to the Navy recruiter and there is this guy sitting in a white shirt, khaki shorts and sandals with his feet propped up on the desk. I ask the question. " How often does the Navy run daily? " Not going to lie. Was I lazy? Eh. probably. But still. running for fun. I'll pass. The guy looks at me like I am an idiot and says " dude. We don't run anywhere ".Navy boot camp isn't like other boot camps...we still have pretty decent PT standards but we don't get punished like the others. In fact, you can't get physically punished until medically cleared. So, the RDC's (Recruit Division Commanders, Navy's version of Drill Sergeants) play mind games with you if you mess up. One of our RDCs made us put backpacks on and off our racks about 100 times when somebody forgot theirs. Still it was nothing compared to the rigor of BUD/S and my first days being the new guy once I made the teams. I had my first taste of Max's right before going on the UBL mission : Neptune Spear. The amount of preparation was insane but it was all worth it once I had my first bite of that deliciously airy chocolate glazed donut from max's. I probably had 6 and still wasn't sick of them(and they're massive). It was like a chocolatey pillow from mohammad(PBUH) himself. Coming back after we finally got our guy I called my wife and told her to buy another dozen just for myself! and 2 more for the rest of the platoon to share. Use 1/2 c of heavy whipping cream and 2 large eggs. Whisk together and dip your sliced donuts, one at a time and fry on high in a skillet that has been sprayed with butter flavored cooking spray. Pour left over cream egg dip on donuts (may not have any depending on how long you soaked your donuts. Use day old donuts for this and slice in half horizontally before dipping. My husband came home from work one Friday and said we needed to try another donut shop.I said that was the last thing we needed to do. However, I still went with him to Max's Donuts in Allen, Texas. The signs were pretty clear that this was a popular donut shop. Not since I lived in England and purchased the occasional Krispy Kreme at Harrods have I ever seen such a long and windy queue. People waited outside. And this is no small shop either. Even with our early(ish) arrival, the stock had been picked over. It was easy to understand why - customer after customer were buying boxfuls of donut-y goodness. The reason for our visit was a single glazed donut that Kelly swore was the closest Krispy Kreme-like donut he'd ever eaten (a coworker had brought some to the office the day before): Our donut came right off the glazing line - just like a Krispy Kreme. That was a good start. The donut was tender, flaky, lightly glazed and slightly crispy. Delicious! Because we drove all that way, we also tried their sausage rolls. The jalapeno sausage roll was ok. But not as good as our favorite local shop in Plano, Sonny's. The same was true of their standard sausage roll. The cinnamon roll was outrageously huge - as in, the size of a bread plate. Good, but (you guessed it) not as good as Sonny's. So will we go back to Max's? Probably - but probably only when we want a Krispy Kreme type of glazed donut. It's definitely a tasty donut shop, but for everything other than the standard glazed we have a great local shop that is better. If Sonny's didn't exist, I might feel differently! read more
