I was in need of a very expensive Audi repair for which the dealer had quoted $2,700 (on a car with only 60,000 miles)...ouch! I quickly (while still in the dealer's waiting area) searched yelp for other mechanics in the area. I'm so happy I found Chris and Nick at Maxwell Automotive! Chris and team were able to fix my car at a much lower price. Chris also conducted a thorough inspection and revealed some other issues that would need to be addressed in the future. He gave an estimate for these as well as possible timeframe for when the additional repairs would be needed. I was a bit overwhelmed and on the verge of tears. Chris didn't sugar coat anything, was upfront, but was also very compassionate, professional, and even gave me a hug which I'm sure he could sense I needed in that moment:-) My car was out of commission for several days and they loaned me a car they happened to have available at no charge--very grateful! Chris also made some very thoughtful recommendations on purchasing a vehicle that could be maintained at a much lower cost and I took his advice! During the time leading up to me purchasing a different car, I called him several times asking for input and guidance on specific makes and models. Dang, he consistently answered with a smile (yes, I could hear it:-) even though I feared I may be annoying with my incessant questions. Note, this is a no frills place. If you're looking for a waiting area with a fancy coffee dispenser, massage chairs, popcorn machine, or stale donuts from the grocery store--this is not your kind of place. The auto shop was recommended to me by a co-worker and I was not disappointed. I was able to get an immediate appointment to check out a squealing sound coming from the brake area of my Pontiac Vibe. The diagnostic was free, and Chris, the owner, took the time to show me what he found (worn brake pads and roters) and the implications regarding functionality and safety. Chris did a more thorough evaluation of the vehicle than just focusing on the problem at hand. I received recommendations, ranked in order of priority, with estimates, but did not feel pressured or that the goal was an easy sell. On the contrary, the staff suggested waiting on a few maintenance items I inquired about. Everyone was efficient at their work and were also friendly and personable. The cost was of repair was fair. Highly recommend! He is the most trustworthy mechanic I have found, which is huge for anyone who doesn't know a lot about cars. My car had a disturbing rattling noise when accelerating. He accurately diagnosed it over the phone. When I brought my car in, it took him about 5 minutes to fix, so he didn't even charge me. Then, I recommended him to my mother for her scheduled maintenance on her Volkswagen Passat. The dealer's estimate for the service was outrageous. Maxwell Auto showed her exactly what the service entailed and how much each portion should cost and where the dealer was overcharging her. He performed the service in a timely manner for exactly what he estimated. I am now in the process of searching for a project car for him to fix up for me for my next vehicle. Honest and friendly service. I have been bringing my VW Jetta here for all my service needs, they are the best in the area. Chris and Nick are always up front with problem diagnosis and what my options are. Prices for service are super reasonable and always explained before they start any work. The quality service and honest pricing have kept me coming back even after moving out of the area. This place has gotten busy (for good reason), so calling ahead is probably best, but they have always been accommodating for same day emergency repair. This is a great shop, recommend it highly! My daughters VW beetle needed some repairs, after she moved from Texas to Davenport. I did some searching for a shop in the area, made some calls to talk to different shops, asking some Questions about the repair she needed. ( I own a German car shop in Texas, so i know what i have to ask, and the answers i want to hear). I talked to Chris and did feel very comfortable with the answers i got. I have a Volkswagon and I was told by the dealership that my air conditioning required an expensive replacement. Chris was a pleasure to meet and talk with about my car. I have an older Oldsmobile, and he warned me right off he might not be able to help. But once I got it there, Chris was able to diagnose the problem very quickly and offer a very reasonable rate to fix it. He was honest, personable, and knowledgeable. Have a used Mercedes C230 that no one else in town would work on and the dealer told me it was going to cost 6800 to fix my car.
