I'm very happy I found this place! I just moved my daughter from Florida to Iowa City. I did some a/c work and fixed an oil leak on my 2002 xterra before we drove up there. On the way we got an alternator belt squeak. I hadn't brought tools because I was flying back to Florida. So I found a harbor freight and was about to buy tools when I saw Accurate Automotive just as I was pulling into harbor freight's parking lot. It was like a sign from God so I drove on over. The shop was spotless. Whenever I walk into an automotive shop that first meeting is a little uneasy. I'm trying to read the shop owners to get a feel for how bad I'm going to get screwed. These guys were a pleasant surprise. They were kind, open and straight forward. They gave me a fixed price for to replace the belt and got me in right away. They only replaced one of the two belts I was expecting because they said the Alternator belt was ok. The best part: THE FINAL PRICE WAS LESS THAN THE QUOTED PRICE! You could have knocked me over with a feather. Moving your daughter 1/2 way across the USA to a city where you know no one is a tense experience. Finding an honest mechanic was one of the biggest things that a dad stresses over. I've lived in Miami 55 years and still haven't found an honest mechanic. I'm in Iowa city less than 24 hours and found one! Thank you guys! You took a big stress off of a paranoid Dad! Honestly, there aren't too many non-restaurant places around this city I really care about enough to write a review for online, but I really do love Accurate Automotive--they're awesome and I basically don't trust any car maintenance outfit without a lot of experience with it--kind of a catch 22 for me when I move to a new area. Accurate has gone above and beyond for me multiple times. They've quoted me for replacement filters for far, far cheaper than I was offered over at the dealership. Heck, they clean up the dirt from my car floor every time I get a service, and I'm really lazy about doing that so it's actually kind of fantastic. read more

Came on a suggestion from a friend that said his repair bill went from 500 at another location to $80 when it was more accurately diagnosed at Accurate Automotive. I called when my 96 ford explorer started leaking coolant and I had a 100+ mile trip in 3 days. He said he was super busy and wouldn't be able to handle it that day....I asked about anywhere reputable I should go to....he said, "well, come on down...I'll diagnose it for you and give you a quote on what I charge....you can leave it here and if I can do it in time, I will. Or you can take it anywhoere and at least know what a fair price range is to compare with" He educated me on the problem (bad water pump), gave me a replacement cost for him to do it that was almost half of the quote when I went right around the corner. Finally, after hearing him state that it was a quick job and not too hard on my type of vehicle....i asked how hard it was to do myself....he said it was a realistic repair to do on my vehicle on my own if I was feeling confident and could folllow Youtube directions really closely. He printed out the tools I would need to rent to get to the water pump, educated me for a good 15 minutes on the process, and even offered to lend me a clutch fan removal tool if autozone didnt have it. The guy gave me a huge chunk of his time and didn't ask for a penny. I fixed my water pump for 70 bucks after coolant, parts, and supplies and 2hrs of work (i was slow and careful as i did stuff). I'm a customer for the rest of my time in IC for sure. Accurate automotive is awesome...saved me several hundred already! read more

Everything you could want in a local auto repair shop. I suspected I needed a fuel pump replaced which is located inside the fuel tank on my vehicle, which was nearly full, so I couldn't do the job myself. They diagnosed the problem and repaired it all in one afternoon. The price quoted for the repair was exactly the price I paid; they include the standard shop costs, parts, labor and tax in the estimate, so you're not left feeling like you were charged hidden costs. The invoice/bill was itemized in detail with full explanation of work done and costs involved, which I appreciate. Everyone is professional and courteous. Based on a friend's suggestion, I took my car to Accurate for an oil change and to have them check on my automatic car starter. I made an appointment through their website for the next day thinking there was no way I would get in. But, I heard back right away from Jason through a text and they were able to fit me in. It was so easy and efficient. I was also pleasantly surprised when I got in my car after they were done and my car was vacuumed!! BONUS! The price was great and the service was excellent. My son had issues with his car and both times he has tsken his car there they fixed the problems at reasonable prices. The owner Jason, is professional and respectful. Being a parent, out of state, you worry about someone taking advantage of your kids. These guys are straight with you from the outset and treat the customer great. Five big stars! I called on a Thursday morning about battery trouble and possibly more to see if they could get us in for the afternoon and they were prompt and courteous on the phone. They were able to check our car and repair everything by the next morning on Friday. Our problem ended up being the alternator, which they replaced, and they were also able to fix some issues we had with our battery. The cost wasn't terrible and they did quote us on a price before starting any work. We would definitely trust Accurate Automotive with our vehicle again. read more

Great service and seem to be straight shooters. Saved me lots of money (over $1k) on a repair a couple years back that Tuffy quoted several thousand for repairs (including replacing broken radiator), and after visiting Accurate I found that my radiator was fine and only needed a new bearing. Took my wife's care in because the check engine light went on and the car wouldn't accelerate when you pushed the peddle. They called me back and said it was the fuel pump and that it would cost upwards of $800. Given the rough economic times I figured I could save some money by buying the fuel pump and having them install it. After specifically asking him how much they would charge for the labor, he quoted me $111 but that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. I said fine. Just went to pick up the car today and they charged me $330. They pulled the typical shady Iowa mechanic sh*t and said that I asked them how much they charge per hour (which is not what I asked). So the final price breakdown: $111 to identify the problem (when in reality all he needed to do was connect the reader to the car) and $220 for 2 hours of labor. Who charges extra to identify the problem? I asked a mechanic friend of mine how long it takes to change a fuel pump and he said 1 hr. Do NOT trust these shady mechanics. Needless to say, we will not be bringing our business back here or recommending them to friends/family. read more

Until I recently moved to Austin, TX, I had been going to Accurate Automotive for years. I think everyone will agree a good, trustworthy mechanic is like gold. Accurate Automotive is upfront with their costs, which I think are reasonable. There is signage throughout that explains some of the additional costs that we as customers typically do not think of. I really appreciate how they will detail any issues that your vehicle may have and also take the time to explain what is crucial and what can wait until a later date. They will even tell you approximately when that later date may be. They understand that vehicle maintenance is expensive and try to work with you to come up with the best plan to keep your car working well within your budget. The guys are friendly and knowledgeable and I've never felt like they were taking advantage of me, even when I was a single girl with little car knowledge. I miss this place! I was recently told. I needed my brakes replaced and given an estimate. I wanted a second opinion so I brought it in. not only did they tell me my brakes were fine, but their estimate to replace the brakes was 1/3 the price of the other shop, they told me my car looked great! Keep bringing it in for regular oil changes and they would let me know if anything looked bad. I haven't meet a mechanic like this in years! read more
