They handled everything with such care, and the employees were very calm and supportive during a stressful time for my family. We worked with the staff at the Pennsauken location but had my grandmother's funeral service at a church about 30 minutes away. May Funeral Home handled everything about transportation very well. Absolutely terrible! Their spokesman, Alex, appeared very willing to work with us to cremate & bury my grandmother at first. But after the initial phone call (which i didn't receive until almost 2 days after they retrieved her) they began the run around. Paperwork was emailed to me piecemeal and I was never told how to pay for their services. A WEEK after her death, we were no closer to the cremation and burial. We made it clear the funeral service needed to be on a Friday, 2 weeks after her death. Alex told me that may not be possible. What?! "We tell ppl 7-10 days." It had already been 7! So we were forced to confront them in person where we were met with insults, blame & defensiveness. With that, we called another funeral home to rescue us from this mess and everything went very well. May funeral home is completely incompetent, unprofessional and was unequipped to handle this situation. Moreover they charged $1000 to have her removed from their freezer which she had been sitting in for a week. They should not be able to do this to grieving families. read more

This review is for the Sicklerville location. I was never so surprised and disappointed as I was when I went to the viewing and funeral service last week for my mother-in-law. May Funeral Home did an absolutely horrible job to the point where I was wondering if I was at the right service. One of the most important things you can do for a family is help them celebrate what was unique about their loved one. What the family needed the most was to feel cared for, but unfortunately the compassion, the connection and the good service is not what the family experienced. it was the worst experience of my life ! very unprofessional staff. When Mr May was alive, the Business was ran with warmth, compassion and care. It is totally different now that the new generation of May is running it. You can tell from the moment you come in the door. From the moment i entered the door to sign the insurance policy. I wanted to tell my Sister to take my father's body out of May funeral home ! The Funeral was excellent. The problem started when it was time for the family to view the body for last remarks and last words. I was the first of my father's siblings to be called to share my last moment with my father. As i walked up, I was calm, under control and collected. The may funeral director grab me by the neck. (like you do a bad kid) with a death grip! I tried saying my last words to my father but i was unable because the funeral director was in my ear telling me what to say to MY father! I tried to move away from him but he held my neck even tighter! I did not want to cause a seen at MY father's funeral so I just stepped a side without saying my last words. As i step back, I watched as my sister came up to say her last words. The same funeral director grab her by the waist and tried to tell her what to say to my father. it was at this time, I realize what this director ruin for me and my sister. I step up and told him to take his hand off my sister's waist and back the FUCK up so my sister can say HER last words to my father ! After the Funeral I went to the funeral director and told him he had ruin my chance to say MY last words to my father! He said sorry then got in his vehicle and drove away. I called May funeral home the next day to make a compliant. I asked to speak to the manager of May funeral home. The female who answered the phone told him the manager was not in but asked me what was the problem. I told her the situation. Her exact words were. PLEASE TRUST THE REVIEWS!! This place is the worst of the worst. My family unfortunately lost 2 family members back to back and we entrusted this POOR EXCUSE of a Business with our loved ones. I could write a book on how bad they are but let me just share some bullets: 1. They tried to rip us off for $400 (read the fine print) 2. They tried to rip us off for another $150 3. They were unapologetic about THEIR mistake & got mad when I BUSTED THEM. ....My $400 PLEASE 4. They are unprofessional 5. They were VERY late arriving 9:05 am with my niece for a 9am viewing. The church was 2 miles from the funeral home. 6. They didn't know where/when to meet us for my sister 7. They have NO compassion, not an ounce of Humanity 8. They don't return phone calls 9. They ATTEMPT to take full advantage of your emotional state. 10. MY SISTER LOOKED NOTHING LIKE HERSELF 11. For my niece, they knew we were paying out of pocket and they STILL tried to beat us for money. 12. How about the owner got an attitude with me because I called the office & NO ONE ANSWERED so the phone must have rolled over to his wife's cell phone. UMMM sir I did not call your wife's cell I don't even have her number :) 13. At my niece's service the one dude FORGOT he was working for us NOT the other way around. 14. This man tried to move ME from handling my autistic great-niece trying to say farewell to her mom. One of MANY violations. 15. At my sisters grave site her casket appeared to be open they did NOTHING to rectify the situation only joked and said try to open it. I feel as if they didn't care about the lasting image of my grandmother and made it worse for my family. This funeral home did not make sure that my family was satisfied with their final work. This review is for the Sicklerville location. 2/14/2018 Many times, we rely on the advice from those that we know especially when it comes to using businesses that we have not used before and most times that works. In this case, I can say that it was the wrong decision. We entrusted May Funeral Home in Sicklerville with my mother's funeral services and the words "disappointed, devastating, horrible, atrocious" are not strong enough to describe our experience. I should have relied on the comments posted on the website because my family and I are now reliving some of those same experiences described. In contrast to some of the comments clients posted on the funeral home's website, here is what the funeral home claims "Today, we continue the tradition of compassion, personal attention, and professional services that started so long ago". But here is what WE have to say to you May Funeral Home - we saw no compassion, personal attention, or professional service during our interaction with your business. The loss of a loved one is already emotionally draining but it becomes even more devastating and a travesty when the funeral home has absolutely no compassion or customer service during these times. To describe this horrific experience would mean dis-respecting my mother's memory in a public forum and I will NOT do that and so I will share the specific details in a VERY long letter being sent to the owner/management at May Funeral Home. I am sure they will be open and honest and glad to share the DETAILS (not our personal information) with anyone who may request to hear about them. Not that they are going to do anything about them. My first experience with May Funeral Home was when my mother passed. I have to say they way our family was handled during the worst time of our lives was a horrible experience from our mothers obituary not being in the paper the day before her funeral, having to track them down for the family viewing, to my mother being in the wrong color casket. All the bells and whistles they performed at her service did not make up for the way we where treated leading up to that day. When my father in law recently passed I shared this with my mother in law, but she still decided to use Mays Funeral Home, and again during the worst time of my husbands and mother in laws life it was so disappointing. Mistake after mistake, delay after delay, after we finally contacted them to make arrangements for a family viewing my father in law was presented to us on a soled pillow and the poor attempt the made to clean it was evident during his public viewing. The programs where printed incorrectly so they where not available until the service was half way over. The time was wrong in the obituary. When you lose a loved one it is so difficult and how the people you entrust with handling the details of your final farewell are so important and May Funeral home has failed us not once but twice. read more
