We drove an extra hour to visit the infamous Mayfield Dairy Farms. A tour is given each month/tue/thur on the hour for $8.50/person. We arrived about 30 minutes early, got tickets, and browsed the gift shop. The tour starts with a 10 minute video about the history of the Mayfield family. We were in a large tour group (maybe 40 in the room). Next each person was given a hair net. Those with facial hair were given a covering as well. The guides required these for entry into the factory. Phones and cameras were all required to be put away through the duration of the tour as well. Photography and videography were strictly prohibited. The tour had multiple stops throughout the factory plant. It started with us watching how the iconic yellow milk jugs are molded, cut, and blown. Next we were taken to a room where the milk was being filled into these containers. Lastly, the tour showed a room with ice cream being packaged into cartons. We never got to see the milk being processed or ice cream being made and mixed. The tour only showed the process of packaging (making the packaging, packaging the milk, and packaging the ice cream). Overall, it was a cool experience. Not often do you get to see how quickly and efficiently our favorite brands are able to produce the products we buy and rely on each day. It is crazy the amount of products these factories can turn out in just an hour!

    Cute!!

I had this place bookmarked because I was told it was comparable to Tillamook. I have been to the Tillamook factory, but nope. So the little shop is super cute and has a ton of super cute stuffed animals, toys and trinkets. But the ice cream I bought was nasty. I got the cookie dough....I took a bite and it was extremely gritty. You can kind of see it in my picture. So I threw it away.

Still great! We went here a few years ago and was able to do the factory tour. This time there was no tour because of COVID. The gift shop and ice cream shop are open most week days until 5pm. My family of 9 ordered a bunch of different flavors, and they were all scrumptious and rich, a single scoop was plenty! But once you have it once you will probably want to go back for more.

So we're on the way home after a long vacation, and I see a sign off to the side about the Mayfield Ice Cream Tour on a billboard. Tried to look it up, but there are no reviews on this facility; only the one in Georgia. That got good reviews, and who does not like ice cream? So in an unusual move for me, I detoured the trip home to see this plant in action. It was late in the afternoon, and I did not expect it to be as crowded as it was. Maybe 20 or so at around 3:30PM. The next and last tour started @ 4 so the family and I checked out the decent sized gift shop filled with mostly useless plastic junk. But there were T-shirts, and some ceramics and advertising which was interesting. The tour was $4.50 for adults and $3.50 for kids...very reasonable. And, it comes with a free cup or cone of ice cream! There are no tours on Wednesdays, I believe. The tour starts with a 10-minute movie explaining the Mayfield Dairy Farm history. Then you don some hair nets (beard nets too if necessary) and start on about a 1/2 hour tour. There are about 5 stops and the guide explains what is going on at each station. It's very noisy from the machinery, but the guide has a microphone. It can also get slippery so you should wear sturdy shoes. There are stairs, too, and it is not handicapped accessible. You get to see the milk containers being made, filled, and since production was stopped for the end of the day, they showed a video of the ice cream being produced. Things like ice cream sandwiches, pops, and 1/2 gallon boxes. No video or pictures are allowed in the plant. What I thought was spilled milk all over the floor I found out was really a soap for lubricating the machines! Glad I didn't cry. The best part, of course, was getting the ice cream, and they have all the fun flavors. A new one this year was caramel toffee which I thought was just awesome. If you don't have time for the tour, at least stop for the ice cream! I'll give kudos to the young male staffer who was the "receptionist," "tour guide," and "ice cream scooper." He did a lot of work and seemed like he was having a good time doing it. Give him a raise!

Ohh! I love a creamery! Mayfield's is a fun place to visit and tour. You start with a video which is a great overview of Mayfield's history and innovations. I actually think they could lengthen this and add more to the video because the story is cool. On the tour you get to watch the bottling and packaging/labeling of milk and ice cream. Kiddos will enjoy the buzzing machines and throughout they'll make ewwww noises about the dairy air smell along the way. No photos are permitted. Overall, the experience was great. I think if we had another tour guide perhaps I would have loved it even more. Our guide didn't seem to have a good handle over the small children and he he stumbled a bit. That and you couldn't understand every other word when he muffled into the speaker. The staff does a great job running tours every hour. It works like clockwork (hahaha..get it?) The tour will last approximately 35-40 minutes. Afterwards everyone runs to get their free ice cream scoop. Then before you can say my ice cream is melting and there's nowhere to sit the intercom is calling for the next tour to begin soon. This steady flow is perfect because the front waiting area and cafe is a bit small until half the crowd leaves for the next tour. I'm pretty sure the lean six sigma reps at the plant have carefully planned this steady stream of tours. Hahha. Plan ahead for your little ones who will get excited in the big crowd. Oh and the ice cream is DELICIOUS!!! I'm a HUGE fan of Mayfield's. I've had a lot of ice cream in my life. Mayfield's is seriously delicious. Next comes Turkey Hill and Tillamook. But we won't mention that here.

Before coming here I heard there are not actually cows here. So do not be deceived lol. It is a factory that shows their production of cartons and bottles and how all milk and ice cream is all dispensed and put together. You can get a tour so our group went on a tour. It starts with going into a small theatre and watching how Mayfield came to be. Afterwards they assign everyone to wear hairnets and they do not allow any phones or cameras out. The entire tour was mainly in the factory and I was pretty nauseous from the interesting odor as well as the loud noises. That was slightly irritating and I wasn't the only one who felt that way. They hand each person a ticket and at the end of the tour you can get a scoop of your choice of Mayfield's ice cream. This was DEFINITELY the best part. Their ice cream was really good and really fresh and I highly suggest getting the moose tracks super yummy! I don't know if going on the tour is actually worth it but the ice cream for sure is worth!

I'd been driving past Mayfield for a few weeks, and everything time I passed them I'd thought about checking them out. One of my co-workers claimed that Mayfield makes some of the best ice cream, and that they gave tours of the place as well. So one day when I got out early, I turned in at the giant cow and decided to check them out. I didn't do a tour, or even go inside. The counter that you can order at has a side on the inside and a side on the outside that you can walk up to and place your order. It was a beautiful day and there was some nice outdoor seating, so I ordered at the outdoor counter. I ordered a chocolate milkshake, and they gave me the choice of having it made with chocolate milk or regular milk. Honestly, I didn't know how it would affect the taste so I went with the chocolate milk. It was amazing! So delicious! It looked like it would be too thick to get through the straw, but I didn't have a problem. I've been craving their milkshakes ever since that day.

Located in Athens, Tennessee off I-75 (exit 52). You Drive 4.3 miles, turn on Mayfield Lane and visitors center is on the right. They open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) first tour starts at 10:00 a.m. and last tour ends at 4:00 p.m. Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tour begins at 10:00 a.m. and last tour at 1:00 p.m.). No tours on Wednesday and they close on Sundays. When I got there on a Saturday, it was too late to do the tours. Admission rates change so you must call for pricing. At the time I called, they quoted $10.00. I really love this place!! I took so many pictures. Very Nostalgic. As you enter the visitor center, you will noticed the Mayfield Cow in the front of the building. There are picnic umbrella tables in the front and rocking chairs on the porch. Very welcoming and cozy. The first thing you hit is the gift shop- which they carry everything to t-shirts, mugs, ice cream scoops, coolers, etc. Mayfield paraphernalia galore. I enjoyed going through all their stuff. I ended up getting my mom a T-shirt and a pair of socks for myself. Next to the gift shop is the ice cream parlour where you can purchase their famous ice cream. You can also enjoy dining in. Awesome décor! There is a play area for kids and they have a station demonstrating how properly milk a cow. How cool is that?! I am definitely coming back so I can do the tour. Even if you don't do the tour, still stop by to relax and try some ice cream.

Mayfield was absolutely incredible because come on, how often do you get a tour of a milk and ice cream factory. I went in with high hopes and I wasn't disappointed I got to see how milk was packaged and distributed and how ice cream was packaged and made as well. The employees and staff were all very friendly and they were very passionate about their line of work and what they did. I must say I was impressed with the factory and I enjoyed the ice cream at the end of the tour as well.

Because I live a half an hour away, I especially love that bagging groceries is separated into blue bags for cold items and brown bags for everything else. That being said, there is one cashier who I avoid like the plague. Her name is Chasady. Today, her lane was the only one open other than self check out. Every time I go in there, she never says one word to me except to say thank you as she hands me my receipt. Today was no different in that respect. Normally, she refuses to use the blue bags, so everything is in a brown bag and I have to search through what I have to know what to put in my cooler bags and what needs to immediately go into the refrigerator or freezer when I get home. Today, I put my cold items on the belt first and if she did not put them in blue bags, I was going to politely ask her to do so. To my surprise, she put them in blue bags! I was ecstatic! Until, she started putting everything in blue bags! She apparently does not understand the concept. I don't normally complain, but this has just been an ongoing issue for the past several months! She is never friendly and does not know how to bag groceries and then, it is the customer's job apparently to put them from the loading area into the cart, no matter how many she has stacked onto the loading area. OK, rant over. Everything else is great at this Ingles Market.
