We recently took a group of 14 and they, effortlessly, served us all in a timely fashion. The meat loaf is off the chain good.

I especially like the atmosphere and the history of the house--it has a lot of charm and makes for a unique dining experience. Most of the food has been good, but the shrimp and grits were a definite miss for us. The flavor just wasn't there, and it's not something we would order again. Overall, I'd say this is probably one of the better places to eat in Dayton, especially since there aren't a lot of restaurants in the area that consistently offer higher-quality food. The biggest reason I can't rate it any higher is the service. We've had the same waitress both visits, and unfortunately, she just hasn't been friendly or welcoming. Dining out, especially at these prices, is about more than just the food. You want to feel like your business is appreciated, and we've walked away both times feeling more like an inconvenience than valued customers. That said, we'd still consider going back because the atmosphere is enjoyable and most of the food has been good. I'm hopeful that a different server--or a more welcoming service experience--would make a noticeable difference.

My wife and I had been to this ice cream store before and it was good. They don't make their own,…read morebut they serve Blue Bell, which is a premium brand from Texas. Their selection was excellent, and what makes this place special is they have a variety of ways to serve it! Of course you have your normal cups and cones, including delicious waffle cones, but they also bake cookies (in house) and make ice cream sandwiches with them. They also offer shakes/malts. We went there with our neighbors a few nights ago and the owner was working. This man knows how to run a business! First of all, he does not skimp on servings. I ordered a 16oz shake and what I got was a 24oz because he "accidentally" made too much. My neighbors ordered a couple of ice cream sandwiches and he had to mold the cookies around a heap of ice cream so it would fit into the container! My other neighbors ordered a waffle cone and he says it always made him mad to get a cone that didn't have ice cream packed into it, so know, if you order a cone you will have ice cream top to bottom! Lastly, I heard him talking about his business practices. He said, if you make it onto his deck before closing he will serve you! The other night, a Sunday, his closing time was 6pm and he had a line. He served until it was exhausted and was there until 8pm! THAT is the way to run a business folks. I do wish they'd make their ice cream in house, because I'm sure this guy would make some incredible product, but what he serves is good and the way he runs his business deserves patronage!

The cookies were on display in a case by the ice cream to choose for ice cream sandwiches. They also of course offer shakes and scoops. The shoppe was the perfect little country place with a lovely outside sitting area. They serve Blue Bell ice cream and have an adorable cow outside for pictures. The girls working were very sweet and helpful.
