First time eating here on July 31, 2026. It was real bust when we arrived and we had to wait maybe ten minutes. Once seated, we were served quickly. It was my mother's birthday and there were 7 people in our party. We waited an hour and forty-five minutes to be seated. They kept telling us 5 minutes. They continued to seat couple's and small parties. Instead of them holding tables and putting them together to seat our party they continued seating other parties. No one ever apologized for us having to wait so long to be seated. We will never go back there again. Also look up at the dust on the rafters. read more

Mayflower is a hit or miss in Darlington SC . For years we have enjoyed this restaurant and brought others with us. The food was always hot and not over cooked. The last few times we visited this location the food wasn't fit to eat and the shrimp and oysters were fried way too much. So we decided to try it again today. We both had popcorn shrimp and they gave us plenty except it came out warm and greasy. For what they charge the food should come out hot and not overcooked or greasy. Just had an early dinner there. All I can say is Great ! I had the 16 oz ribeye with fried shrimp. That steak was the best I've had in I don't know how long. As good as my own on charcoal and hickory. Cooked perfectly rare as ordered, juicy and tender. On the restaurant web site a review said it was the best steak in town... I think it may be the best steak in the county. I highly recommend Mayflower Sea food restaurant. I've tried several of the menu items and everything has been excellent. My friend and I came here for dinner tonight. When we arrived we put our name on the list for a table. There were many people waiting, however we were seated in less than five minutes. Our server was at the table as soon as we were seated and took our drink order. When she returned we had already decided on our meals. We went with the haddock, jumbo shrimp combo. We both wanted a side salad and one had fries while the other wanted a baked potato. The salad was so fresh and delicious with onion, tomato and shredded carrots. Before we could finish the salad all the condiments and extra plates were brought out. I was surprised why extra plates would be needed but then the order arrived. Two full filets of haddock, eight Jumbo shrimp, fries covering the entire plate and four hush puppies piled high. Extra plates are a must to get your food not to spill it everywhere. Our server was very busy but not to busy to make sure our drinks were refilled. To go boxes were provided and much needed. The food was delicious, piping hot and not over cooked in any way. The fish was lovely and white and very flaky. The tarter sauce is by far the best I've ever had. It wasn't all mayonnaise! Wish I'd asked for extra to bring home. The only negative was that it did feel very rushed. I understand that the restaurant was busy in the middle of Saturday afternoon but I just felt that it was a rush to move a table. The restaurant is loud with all the people talking, however it is very open and it was packed. Nothing overly fancy but definitely great for a family. Not sure what changed at my GO-TO restaurant for several years, but I won't get takeout again. For $24+ on a two seafood combo, I got 5 small fried oysters and a decent portion of fried shrimp. The menu has just about anything a seafood lover wants, several types of fish, flounder, haddock, whiting, to name but a few. There is popcorn shrimp, jumbo shrimp, scallops, deviled crab, oysters, and more. Mayflower offers several combination platters and a 'build your own' option. You can choose to have your food fried, blackene, or broiled. Be prepared to be amazed when your food is brought out. The plates are piled high, and I do mean high. So high, your choice of 2 sides have to be brought out on separate plates! The food is hot, fresh, and flavorful. Each plate is accompanied by 5 or 6 ring style hushpuppies, a true Southern tradition. There are several sides to choose from, including Cole slaw, fresh crisp salad, fried okra, green beans, fries, both sweet and regular baked potatoes. Mayflower is an extremely popular restaurant with locals in Darlington and with good reason. The wait staff is super friendly and efficient especially for the number of people they serve. The restaurant itself is a basic setup with plenty of tables and as casual as it gets. Nothing fancy here. The food is good, not great but the portions are huge. When you order the Popcorn Shrimp, I highly doubt it's fresh from the ocean but it is fried nicely. They have several different fish options including catfish, flounder,and whiting. All are pretty good. Nothing to write home about but good. They serve unique hush puppies with seafood orders. They aren't round balls but are actually shaped like onion rings. It throws me off every time. The place is a good for lunch if you're in the area but not a destination restaurant. One thing is sure, you won't leave hungry. read more

Today was a dismal failure. arrived at 11:40 and the place was not overcrowded. We were seated quickly and ordered but then thats when it fell apart. 2 adults and 2 children. We sat and sat and watched people come and go. The kids got a little antsy waiting, after an hour our food finally arrived. No special orders just the lunch specials. It was lukewarm. No one ever checked to see how we were doing or if we needed more tea. We ordered a cheeseburger dinner to go at the same time we placed our order and had to wait another 25 minutes for that. We been before and it was great but not so this time. Not even an apology for the delay. Not sure we will be returning anytime soon. read more

Well I'll start off with the wait. Which there was 12 of us so we had a 30 minute wait. Our order was quick and drinks arrived fast. The first refill was slow coming but after a few mins our waitress was spot on. The food was outstanding and very large plates. I got the fried seafood platter. Food was over abundant!! You could feed a family of four with one order. Business was steady but our party of six were seated right away. A mix of foods were ordered but my husband ordered the steak and ordered the 'Pick 2" I requested the shrimp and clamstrips, the clamstrips were not available, the waitress said they hadnt been able to get these for quite a while. I chose scallops instead. When my plate arrived I was shocked to say the least. The seafood plate was piled so high that my baked potato was on a separate plate. Both the seafood and the steak were perfect. Steak was tender and cooked to perfection. Seasfoof was not overly seasoned so you could enjoy the taste of both the shrimp and the scallops. My only suggestion is that if you order the 'pick 2' that they tell you that there is a $2 upcharge on shellfish. ( I personally consider all seafood shellfish) but even with this charge my meal was $19.99 and it could easily feed four people! Definitely a need for another visit. First time going to Mayflower on my way from North Carolina to Charleston. Saw lots of cars in parking lot so decided to stop. My wife and I both got lunch specials , she got popcorn shrimp and I got baby flounder. The seafood was delicious and the portions are huge. We should have gotten one meal and shared it because we both could not eat all that we got. The price is very good for what you get and the waitress was highly efficient.
