They close at 6 on Friday, I came in at 5. I walked in for 1 min grabbed 2 watering bulbs. Went to cashier, she was so mean. I don't understand her anger, I was smiling told her have a good night. Rolled her eyes on me and did not say a word. That was the worst vibes i've ever had. Walking into a store and just grabbing something for a 5 min visit. She was hurting my feelings, just by her face reactions. Will never go back there again, ever again. I love Mayo, but will go to every other location than this one. Never go to this location again!! I took my string trimmer into the service center for repair/estimate. I assumed the gas had gone bad in it. The estimate I received was about $175 for repairs. It included a new carburetor, fuel lines, and tank cleaning. A new trimmer was $250. I denied the repairs and brought the unit home. I bought a carb kit and made the repairs myself for $15 and about 45 minutes of my time. I was charged $45 for the estimate, so I have $60 in the total repair. The real issue I have is the 1.5 hours of labor (@$85/hour) Mayo wanted to charge to do something I was able to do in half the time. They are "professionals" and I have never attempted to do this. I believe they would have been able to make the repairs in less than .5 hours. They offered to keep/dispose of my trimmer and forego the estimate fee. That would be an awesome deal for someone since it only took $15 to make it fully functional. I'm sure the repairs would have been great, but the price was ridiculous. These guys were on point.. so frustrated I've been sent to many locations to try to fix my Stihl chainsaw.. these guys took care of me and I got to give them props for that.. they didn't have a two cycle guy there but the young buck that came in there and fixed me up... He knew what he was doing.. those guys were fantastic I got nothing but good things to say about how they helped me out.. All the other places just sent me on my way without any help.. but these guys .. figured out the problem and solved it and left me a very happy and satisfied customer.. I think Stihl chainsaw needs to recognize the effort that they put into fixing my saw correctly.. it was worth the drive out to West Knoxville with all the traffic to fix my saw.. and yes they did! read more

I purchased a new Turf Tiger from Mayo's in Aug of 21 for $14,725. With 14 hrs. on the machine a bolt fell out of the air filter and lodged in the throat of the motor causing the motor to run beyond its limits. Mayo's thought the motor was damaged from this and contacted Vanguard engines for a warranty claim, which was denied. Mayo's didn't stand up for me and push the issue with Vanguard engines but were happy to take my money and tell me that Vanguard engines were outstanding. People see my new mower and always want to know how I like it. Guess what, it would have been cheaper for Mayo's & Vanguard to do the right thing and stand by their product and fix my mower. read more

I've had to have several pieces of yard equipment repaired this summer. Instead of trying to do it all myself I took them to Mayo. The service has been beyond excellent, once coming up with a custom solution to an odd problem in one day. Did it again in a few days time for a different problem. Both custom solution cost less than $100 each... my chipper is ready today, took it in yesterday. Amazing team, great mechanics. Mayo is not the cheapest place to buy plants, fertilizer and accessories, but they have by far the largest selection and quality, period. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, but they do stay busy, so be patient, you will be rewarded. There's a reason Mayo has been in business for over 100 years (still owned by the Mayos)... yeah, you can get stuff cheaper at the big boxes, but if you're looking for the best quality, friendly people and amazing service Mayo is the place. read more

Very helpful with organic gardening questions. Called and was promptly connected to The Gardener. Don't recall her name but she was great. Helped me plan for my medium-sized container garden. Given the COVID-19 crisis, I can't go out so a friend went to pick up my order and everything was there ready for her. Soil, mulch, fertiliser, plants including vegetables and flowers and tomato cages. Mayo Garden Center, in my mind, always meant small town, above and beyond, customer service. I've shopped this location multiple times for garden flags, bird seed, seasonal plants, and this year a Christmas wreath. Tis the season.... For some reason I felt that when I walked in, today, I would be greeted with a smile, a friendly Hello, and a "can we help you". Not today. In fact, I walked in to purchase a $27 Christmas wreath for my office door. It was the only wreath left with pinecones, berries, and a red bow. A bit on the dry side but then again I waited until last minute. I walked in with the wreath and approached the counter. The clerk was speaking with another patron, so another clerk "opened up" the side register to take care of my purchase. The other customer left so the two clerks engaged in conversation about Alcoa Hwy and how it is nick named "I'll Kill Ya Highway". I transacted, with an American Express card, the entire transaction, and the ONLY THING SPOKEN to me is "your card got a chip in it?". I pulled my card back out and placed it into the machine to finish the transaction. I did not get a thank you, a Merry Christmas, nothing. As a business owner, I'm trying to figure out what conversation could be so important that you cannot stop the conversation to engage with a paying customer? I cannot think of a single topic that is more important than friendly customer service. I nearly purchased a wreath from a roadside vendor but didn't have cash on me...so I landed at Mayo. I'm sticking with the roadside vendors. They are friendly and they want and need the business. read more

They have some very high end patio furniture but the prices are also very expensive. I'm sorry, but $6700 and one for $8800 for a patio set is nuts!! BEWARE of MAYO SERVICE CENTER!! Purchased a velkie in March from Mayo, the welds on it broke by June. Took it back for warranty repair, 2 weeks later they said that the mfg didn't cover the repair and they wanted $200+ for the repair. After further investigation and contacting the mfg of the Velkie, no claim was ever submitted back to the mfg. 4 MONTHS LATER, after they went thru being setup to submit a warranty claim back to the mfg, I finally received my Velkie back. There are so many other things that they did wrong during this repair there isn't enough room to list them all. And this is just for a 2 wheeled velkie. I cant imagine letting them work on one of the commercial mowers that they sell. read more

I took my old Snapper ride mower wheels to Mayo's to have the tires replaced. The cost of the work was higher than I had anticipated; however, a company spokesperson called me to explain that the tire quality was higher than average. I accept that justification on face value but recommend that other customers discuss what they buying with the Mayo's representative in the beginning and assure they know the price. read more

My chain saw needed maintenance. I brought it back to where I had purchased it and the woman at the register sent me to the service department where I met Rick, a very kind man. I explained to him that I get nervous when a lot of time has passed and I haven't used my saw. I asked him if he would be willing to look it over and see if it was okay to use. I have three trees I need to cut down. I thought he could maybe check the chain and make sure it was secure. Well, he did. He tightened the chain. He filled up all the liquids and then pull-started the frightening thing. Then I asked him if I could start it while there in the store. He agreed and I pulled the rope. I recently had my Scag Freedom Z serviced at Mayo Garden Center. I can't think of a single good thing to say about this experience. Customer Service is practically non-existent. Could never get a straight answer over the phone concerning the status of my mower. I had to go personally to the shop to find out that my engine was blown. They filed for a warranty claim, but to soon according to what they told me, Briggs & Stratton said problem had to be fixed first. For a blown engine, REALLLY? Well after they put on a new engine, they left it outside in the rain until I picked it up. They didn't even know where the mower was. It took them almost TWO HOURS to find it. This was on a Monday & no managers were working. I waited all day Tuesday for a call from a manager & guess What!!! That's right nobody called me. Worst Customer Service ever. I'd look for anywhere else for service. I WON'T BUY ANY FROM THEM OR TAKE ANYTHING THERE FOR SERVICE EVER AGAIN. read more

I went to Mayo's to buy a pre-emergent to use in my Vinca Minor (ground cover) to prevent or at least reduce the amount of weeds that grow up in the ground cover. The man who was paged to the service counter and "helped" me asked what I wanted and how many. I got two bags. He quickly left and came back with them. He said he would put the bags in the back of my truck and did so, saying they were the last two bags he had. But, he never let me "so see" the "product selection" or take a good look at the bags the product came in. I thought that his carrying the bags out for me was very good service. Now I feel that I sort of got the bum's rush. When I got home, I found that the product was not what I had purchased the last time I bought a pre-emergent, which worked quite well, and that the bags were dripping wet. I used the product, anyway, but it was not effective. I have more weeds than I had last year and I certainly used the pre-emergent soon enough so that it should have worked. What I got was a very expensive fertilizer with a crab grass preventative. The Vinca Minor is growing very well. I don't have any crab grass but the weeds are growing like gang busters. read more
