They offer ante natal groups pro natal groups, toddler groups, assistance with breast feeding, drop in sessions, weigh in sessions, christmas / easter days off, lots of day sessions for children in the Summer involving lots of different activities. The staff also visit your homes for regular checks. I have had also had a speech therapist visit regularly who was also excellent. The effort the staff put into this centre is amazing.

(I think the last time I was in a ball pit was when I was 10!...it a very interesting and different experience when you're a little bit older ;-) So we chilled in the ball pit for about 15 minutes. Surprisingly it was very relaxing...I was contemplating on getting one for home to read in...it's amazingly comfortable. The guy who runs it seems to always be laughing...so jealous of his job! He made the experience SO much more fun (otherwise I would have only given 4 stars). He got us to start a ball fight, do some ball meditation and even sinking to the bottom under the balls, and then jump out for an awesome photo scene ;-) I would completely recommend this experience at anytime. Threw yourself into it, laugh, be happy and just enjoy the 15 minute experience..it'll take all the stress of the week off your shoulders.

This charity shop sells all kinds of furniture, from beds to sofa's, as well as electrical goods…read morelike fridges, TV's and the like. Everything is reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly, going above and beyond what you'd expect. I'd definitely recommend this place to students needing to furnish a flat, there are some good bargains to be found if you look around and the prices have some room to manoeuvre, especially if you're getting a few bits. They offer delivery on large items through their van drivers, and also do house clearances for people who are getting rid of furniture.

The British heart foundation at Sidcup has 2 shops, one selling the normal array of clothes, bric a…read morebrac and dvds etc and the other selling electricals, household goods and furniture. Both shops are well laid out. The clothes are high end prices and a bit too dear for me but the furniture shop is amazing and has so many bargains I can't list them all here but it's easy to pick up a tv for £20, a dishwasher for £50 and a bookcase for under a tenner. The upstairs is not accesible for wheelchair users or anyone who can't climb stairs. The shop can be accessed for the high street or the best bet is to park in Morrisons and walk down the stairs as the car park is behind the shop.

This is the Samaritans' Head Office so it seems as good place to post a review -- well, an…read moreappreciation really -- of the work that they do. Most people probably know of the Samaritans' main work -- staffing a telephone line 24/7 so that anyone who needs to talk to someone can. I used to know someone who worked in a similar organisation and they said that not everyone who walked rang them was suicidal or desperate; quite a number were ringing about comparatively minor things which nonetheless seemed very big to them. But they also said that occasionally you'd get a very aggressive call, someone shouting at and abusing you etc etc -- you never knew what was coming next. And of course you could never put the 'phone down Nowadays they offer support by e-mail as well as by 'phone, by letter and face-to-face. If ever there was a charity who do such a valuable job with people on the edge, this is it -- the people behind those 'phone lines certainly deserve our support.

St Stephens Church is a fantastic building with walls of flint which many visitors to St Albans…read morecoming from the South will pass on their way in. It is opposite the King Harry pub and has it's own parking area. My daughter was christened here and it's a great church to visit, or to come to regularly. The vicar Rev David Ridgeway is very friendly and approachable and I'm sure he'd welcome any newcomers. At church on a Sunday there is a pretty full congregation, lots of families and also people who have been coming to the church for a long time. The fairs are well attended. St Stephens is partnered with St Julians nearby. The church holds Brownies on a Tuesday evening at 6pm and a toddler group on Friday morning at 10am as well as other events.

I'm not a member, sadly just a non contributing admirer. I attended a function here on Monday however, a book launch promoted by New Internationalist magazine, with a simultaneous campaign launch to stop development of oil mining in the Yasuni tribal land of Equador. Inside the building is modern and open planned. Security doors and scanners add a little drama to the peacful ambiance. Our event took place in the lecture theatre on the ground floor. A deep elevated theatre with the latest technological facilities and a little room where they supplied us with wine and food. Must visit during office hours to more round out my sense of this place. I felt very peaceful here though. For Athiest humanists like myself, these buildings are our chrurches.
