Being on the East Coast in the cold weather often makes me want to catch a cheap flight on Spirit Airlines. Unfortunately, Spirit has now "become a spirit," so to speak. Traveling from East to West, I assumed it would always be warm on the California coast, but unfortunately, I was wrong--I blame TV for that! However, staying at the Mayumi hotel made up for it. It was comfortable, relaxing, and secure, which is exactly why I chose it. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by an atrium filled with burning fire pits, mellow music, and swinging chairs. They even have a kitchen where you can cook your own food, not to mention a happy hour on-site with a free drink every evening. This spot made me feel incredibly relaxed, which was just what I needed to write music and finish an amazing book. The staff is inviting and caters to every need. They also offer bicycles that you can rent for free to enjoy the California scenery. I've stayed here numerous times because of the location, the amazing staff, and the overall vibe. i LOVED this hotel. we stayed for a total of 3 nights. it reminds me of a citizen M style hotel. the space is small, but clean and modern. the blinds, lights, and AC are all controlled by a digital panel. you can customize the light color and brightness, which I appreciated. the space is quite small, so if you are looking for a bigger space, this might not be for you. they have a simple breakfast of pastries in the morning, and you can grab water from the fridge near the lobby. I also loved the little courtyard they had in the middle for guests. in terms of parking, you have to find it on the street. personally, we didn't have any trouble finding parking on any of the days we were there. the first night, we had to park a little bit further in the residential area, but other than that, we got pretty lucky with spots in front of the hotel. be aware of street cleaning! overall, would definitely stay again. read more

Upon arrival, we were stuck outside the gate since we didn't have any keys. We rang the doorbell but nobody came until another guest let us in. We booked the premier suite for 2 people but the room felt pretty small. It came with a double bed, not a queen or king. In the bathroom, the sink area was small too but the shower was huge! It's surrounded entirely by glass but has curtains for privacy. The room lights and color of the room can be controlled on the screen by the entry door. Of the two nights that we spent there, it was pretty chill. However, every night, we would constantly hear a water dropping noise hitting against something and that was pretty annoying. The hotel provides continental breakfast daily from 7am-9am. They had instant oatmeal, coffee, baked goods, yogurt, and bread with various spreads. You can grab and go to eat outside in their courtyard or back to your room. They also have complimentary cold bottled water stocked in the fridge. There is no parking lot for the hotel but they have free street parking. It's located near a residential area so parking can be limited. Luckily we didn't have any issues finding a spot right out front. Overall, it's a decent hotel for a couple nights. Super cute little hotel. It's very modern and clean with pretty lines - the rooms are tiny but have whatever you need if you're on a solo trip. Much better than the Hilton Culver City I stayed out last time I was up here (thank god I left a review on Yelp so I remembered I hated it!). Mayumi is forty rooms split over 2 floors, around a central garden courtyard with lots of shade and seating as well as firepits. Easy free street parking in the neighborhood. Not long walks in the hotel - most things are outside which is great in LA & viruswise. My room, upstairs but on the street side, was relatively quiet. The room is small but really well appointed; easy one touch panel controlled the blackout shades, lights & dimming, and AC. Bed was comfortable, shower was nice, bathroom was modern and clean. Free breakfast too, 7 am - 9 pm; coffee; pastries (muffins were undercooked but that was I imagine an anomaly, plus little chocolate croissants, chobani flavored yogurt, whole bananas and apples, oatmeal, and coffee. I decided to wake up in time instead of hunting for breakfast and am glad I did. I wouldn't stay here with a roommate - and this is not a place to be able to grab a drink at night, since they don't have any food after 7 pm, though you can go to the strip mall across the street. But I loved my stay here and it was perfect! The only thing I'd like are: a glass in the room (yes, you can go down to the lobby for it, but it would be convenient to have one to take meds/vitamins and not have to just drink out of a water bottle). Mayumi is a great stay for one person or a couple. The rooms are small but it was perfect for me. I had a weekend trip alone and it was safe and clean. I didn't find any random hair or dust, which I appreciate! I was a little worried about having a room on the ground floor but it was very secure and I didn't have any issues. There is breakfast (7am-9am) and happy hour (5pm-7pm) everyday. Also there is a fridge packed with cold water bottles that you can take as needed. The neighborhood is quiet and there are shopping and food options nearby. Also, there is free street parking on both sides of the building. I have an EV and I found 2 charging stations (Tesla and Electrify) within 5-7 minutes from Mayumi. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Mayumi and I highly recommend it! read more

Total hidden treasure. My bf and I booked this hotel purely for its proximity to a wedding we were attending. Would likely opt for Mayumi again when we visiting Sawtelle in the future. My midnight confession (when I tell all the world that I love you). I have become somewhat particular in my choice of accommodations. Maybe once I realized I wouldn't live forever and as a consequence "now" really kind of matters my choice-pattern changed a little bit and rather than economy I began to favor care to details and thoughtful, happy vibes. Because what are you saving up for, anyway. Tomorrow? What if tomorrow never comes. So as I cast about for the place I'd lay my head night before last down Culver way I started with the hotel named after the town and ... I couldn't pull the trigger. I was only there one night, by myself, still in the middle of a Lenten cocktail desert. I couldn't justify it. Even to my be here now self. Looking for alternatives I found few. No disrespect to Holiday Inn Express, but I just can't. So I broadened my Yelp radius and saw Mayumi. I didn't love the location. I wanted to be able to walk to supper. Scroll scroll scroll my life flashing before my eyes like a Flintstone's backdrop while Fred and Barney are driving. Rock, cactus, tree. Rock cactus tree. Rockcactustree. I made the reservation. And I am so glad I did. Walkability isn't fabulous, but good food variety is abundant within a mile or two and you've driven all day already so what difference does that make. None. Street parking which for someone that can't abide 40 clams for valet is super OK. New property that feels modular but with angles and chill courtyard space. The room was small but functional, cozy, and with an awesome bed and pillows. Quiet at night. I missed the happy hour which is fine as I'd just have been frustrated but did have the light continental and coffee the next morning and it was perfect. Yelpen that make a reservation on their site get a 5% discount, so check in here whilst you check in there. Without hesitation I recommend this if you're looking for a straightforward stay in a straightforward cool friendly place that will leave some coin in your wallet for a treat later. read more

There isn't a parking lot but there's street parking, the neighborhood is pleasant and safe and there's a shopping center across the way. I love Mayumi! We chose to stay here for a couple days as it's near Sawtelle and offered free (street) parking. Luckily, we never had any trouble finding a parking spot. The hotel is quaint, sleek, and modern. I liked that the Mayumi had an outdoor courtyard with lounge chairs, a cozy fireplace, and instagrammable swings. Our hotel room was clean but it was quite small. Mayumi did a great job making use of the space with how they designed the bed and bathroom. I didn't mind the small space! The hotel: Very modern style where the kitchen dining area is where the staff will hang out and check you in with their laptops. There's "manager's hours" where they give free sake shots (which was served in wine glasses) and it was delicious. The complimentary breakfast is simple and just right with light pastries, coffee, tea, toast, jam, butter, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruit. The hotel grounds is inviting where you want to hang out in the nice outdoor lounge furniture and and night the lanterns/lighting and fireplace sets a nice mood. I thought it may be questionably loud but in your room you truly can't hear anyone outside which is nice. The room: Smart set up and use of space. It gives me an idea of how to create a guest house. The room is managed by a tablet screen by the front door. It's used to manage the blinds, windows, lighting, etc. The glass walls in the bathroom/shower is brilliant. I can watch TV and shower at the same time. The water pressure is nice and the Co.Bigelow brand body soap, shampoo, and conditioner were ssoooo soothing. My skin felt silky afterwards. The location: Right smack in Culver City near downtown Culver City, the restaurants, and theater, etc. There are shops across the street from the hotel as well as a fro yo place! It served to a wonderful place to hang out while we reunited with friends, taking our time eating the breakfast and enjoying the sake in the outside courtyard (all included in the price of stay!) Even though it rained the entire time we were in LA, we enjoyed our stay at Mayumi. It is very conveniently located. There are many stores and restaurants within walking distance. Front desk staff was great. We felt safe there; room keys allowed us to gain entry. This property has two floors with doors that face an outside courtyard. There are bikes that one can use to get around. There is a lot of street parking. I requested a room on the second floor so that I would not hear any noises. The rooms are modern and clean. Shades, lighting, and temperature were controlled by a touch keypad. Breakfast was just ok... there were free water bottles. My only complaint is that the DirectV was out, possibly due to the weather. Also, there should be more outlets near the headboard. read more

Across the street is large shopping center with some fast-casual restaurants, one inside the grocery store there. Very nice included continental breakfast downstairs in the glassy lobby every morning. Easy for ride share drivers to pick-up passengers. This place is not as good as you would think. I stayed here April 11-13, stayed in room 209. The TV was messed up, direct tv kept freezing in video while audio kept going. We told the front desk only to be told they would remotely reset it. Once it was reset it was the same problem. They came to the room to manually reset and that still didn't work. I tried to call down to the front desk to tell them only to find out the phone didn't work. I didn't realize it before because we told the front desk about direct tv when we came back from being out, so we went to front desk before coming back to the room. The front desk said that they would give a 10% discount. A few days after checkout when the charges should have been settled, showed I was still charges full price. The bad thing about this is that I heard other complaints about air conditioning not working from another guest. This was such a disappointment. read more

Mayumi's charm comes from many places, whether it's the decor of the courtyard, friendly and attentive staff, or manager's happy hours every day from 5-7pm this place has great things going for it. Opened in 2018, this sleek, modern, community-centered hotel provides an intimate and individualized stay for their guests. My partner and I were visiting the LA area for our anniversary for a few days and were excited to come back to the hotel and relax each night knowing the fire in the courtyard was on and a friendly face was greeting us at the front gate. When it comes to safety, we felt very safe in our room and didn't have any issues on that end despite our room being on the first floor. As for parking, free street parking on Hannum Ave was more than adequate for our stay. We truly enjoyed our time here and highly recommend you give Mayumi a try! Great place, good service, clean amenities! Cons is that it's located in slightly odd space- across a strip mall and in a regular neighborhood. They only have street parking but it was relatively easy to find. Nonetheless I would totally recommend this spot to anyone visiting this area of LA. The rooms are compact but clean, tidy, and new! They have different mood lights which is lovely but my room didn't have a full length mirror!! I would've appreciated that. Aside from that, there is a lovely interior courtyard with a fire pit, swings and lounging area - a great space. We had breakfast outside on the high chairs which felt nice :) Breakfast was decent, minimal but filling. It consisted of mostly pastries, toast, some fruit and yogurt. BEWARE!!! SCAM!!!!!!! I am only providing one star because the hotel itself is very nice, the parking located on the street, however, my boyfriend and i did not have difficulty finding a spot each night, and the hotel is close to Venice Beach. The hotel also offers breakfast, nothing special, just cereal bars, oatmeal and coffee. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for our anniversary. We were given a corner room (as requested) along with a bottle of wine (complimentary for our celebration). My boyfriend and I spent most of our time in Downtown LA and Venice Beach as we have never really explored these parts of California. The room was about $400 for 2-nights which wasn't bad. The hotel offers late check-in and late check-out. My boyfriend and I took advantage of late check-out to sleep in from the long night we have previously in Downtown LA. We made the bed, wipe down the counters and checked out of our room. After check-out, my card was charged $250. When you check-in, you sign a document stating that the only additional fee you may receive is $250 for smoking in rooms. My boyfriend and I did not smoke. I contacted the hotel THREE days in a row to get a reason for this insane charge. No management on sight, EVER! I spoke to a few staff members, including Marco, who informed me that there were stains on the wall. He mentioned that the AC unit had been leaking but he is uncertain how the water could have dripped down the wall as it did. I refused to pay for damages that were not caused by me or my boyfriend. THREE DAYS LATER, after calling and calling, the manager FINALLY responds to the issue through email (pathetic! after calling and calling, she has the audacity to send me a f*cking email). I informed the manager of what I was told by her staff. She then stated that she discussed the issue with Marco and he DENIED SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT THE AC LEAKING. Anyways, the manager refuses to give a refund for $250 that was withdrawn from my account. I thought I'd take my chances booking with this hotel despite the yelp review from another person stating they took $250 from them as well. DONT RISK YOUR MONEY!!! read more

A high falutin' tech-chic motel is still a motel. I'm fine with tiny rooms with streamlined furnishings-- I've stayed at places like YoTel and The Hudson in NYC many times and loved it-- but the room need to be really well-designed. Mayumi's rooms are a total design fail. Nice minimalist desk... with no power outlets! You have to run your laptop power cable down the front and crawl under the desk to plug it into the wall. Cool touchscreen for the climate control, shades and lighting... except that the only way to turn off the lights is with the touchscreen or a switch and they're both right by the door and it kills *all* of the lights. The only way to avoid stumbling around in pitch blackness is to turn on the tiny bedside light and then go kill the room lights. The bed is tiny. The window shade is gappy and lets in too much light. That's just the room design, though. There's also NO parking, unless you want to risk parking overnight illegally in the shopping center lot across the street. The front desk staff are friendly but (as others have mentioned) VERY slow to open the gate when you ring the bell. Worst of all, though-- like many hotels in L.A., The Mayumi softens their water waaaaay too much. You'll spend hours in the shower just trying to get the soap off your body. Totally unnecessary and a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I won't be back. read more

What a cute hotel! We decided to drive down to LA on a whim, and booked this place last minute on HotelTonight. The reception desk is located in the communal dining area, and check in was a breeze. The room was definitely on the smaller side, but was very modern and clean. The bed was smaller than expected, but still comfortable. My favorite part of the room would be the shower! I love how how it's integrated into the room, rather than it being a separate thing. They offer wine from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, and a continental breakfast 7:00 AM-9:00 AM. This hotel was perfect for our stay. Even the tiny misses could not outweigh the pros. The number one thing that I loved about this hotel is the location. It's in a little neighborhood that is quiet and not as bustling as la. This makes it super easy to find parking right in front of the hotel. It's located right across the street from a shopping plaza that includes Pavilion (like a safeway), 99 cent store, and many other food places. A bit further down there is also a huge target, so anything you need is literally a 1 minute walk, you don't have to get in the car! Also, getting to Beverly Hills, other parts of LA, and Santa Monica is really convenient. The hotel is placed in the center so all the surrounding locations are a short drive. During my trip with my bf we made multiple trips to Santa Monica and LA and we never got stuck in traffic. Another great thing about the hotel is the building itself and the room. It's small but the cool thing is as soon as you enter there is a huge kitchen with a glass side facing the little courtyard that all the rooms face. It feels like a private hangout spot since there is hardly anyone there. The room feels brand new, all the furniture, bed, and bath room are just sparkly clean. The bed is nice and firm with comfy pillows and blankets. The bathroom is very cool b/c it's all glass and the shower is amazing! It doesn't feel like a typical dirty hotel shower. The floors are wood so another bonus and there is a mini fridge. I really loved the different lighting options in the room also! The small cons that didn't change my rating but are good to be aware of is that room service does not come until around 4-5 pm meaning you get to be stuck with a dirty room most of the day. Another thing is that the breakfast isn't really a breakfast. It's like a few pastries and yogurts, no to-go cups for coffees so it should be considered more like "snacks". The bed is much smaller than average queen beds in hotels and there is no extra throw blanket located in the room. The room itself is small, but that didn't really matter to us since we just hung out on the bed anyways. All in all, when we come back to LA we will definitely be staying here! read more

Mayumi hit all the marks-- except for a few tiny details. The first negative thing I will touch on is the parking. It says "free parking," but just be real, it's free cause it's street parking which there are plenty to choose from. Second negative thing is that they didn't have a clear sign as to where "check-in" was & I understand why folks would be confused. The last & final negative observation I would say about Mayumi is that the "black out" shades didn't incorporate the sides of the shade-- I had light streaming in the room through the sides of it. Like I said, tiny things. Once we found the check-in desk (a friendly dude with a laptop sitting at a communal table wearing a Mayumi sweater) it was a breeze. Literally 5 minutes & done, I like that. Mayumi also provides guests a well made booklet of suggestions of eateries & activities around the area- very cool. Upon entering room 103 first thing I notice was the smell. The room smelled AMAZING. Who can say that when staying in hotels? It didn't smell stale, old, moldy or any of those standard hotel smells. It's a weird observation, but we've stayed from 3 to 5 star hotels & none has smelled this good. Wood flooring throughout the room & tile for the bathroom. Bathroom was quickly to the right of the door & was very roomy with a stand up shower encased in glass that you can cover with a curtain (from the outside of the shower). Bed was a decent comfort level & size with an ottoman at the edge. Lots of storage space & nice tv hanging opposite of the bed. They made great use of the space they were given. All the lights are controlled by a touch screen panel near the door. It had "mood" lighting which was a nice touch. Heard a few scuffles upstairs, but nothing to complain about. I think they did a great job regulating the rooms for sound. Also, with the room being small, one would think after a shower the room would get steamy or hot, but it was perfect (close the door of course). I didn't feel the temp change in the room when my partner got out of her pretty hot shower. No complaints about the room minus the shade. They offer breakfast from 7AM-9AM which we took advantage of consisting of: muffins, Chobani yogurt & different types of bread & jam along with fruits. They also have a "Manager's Special" from 5PM-7PM consisting of white & red wines in the common area. They had a fire pit going with ample seating outdoors. The decor of the hotel was chic & cute. Prices vary but we stayed from May 25 Sat til May 26 Sun & paid $192. I would highly recommend this hotel & I would, without a doubt, stay at the Mayumi again. read more

The rooms are small, wish each side of the bed had night stands. They feel like little dormrooms. Everything is very modern design with hard wood floors and grey interior. It feels clean, chic and cozy. The continental breakfast is a little more upscale than a motel 6: chobani yogurt, fresh fruit, jam spread and dessert breads. The coffee is stellar! Park on the street but that is fine because it's open, very few restrictions, and you can easily get spots by the entry. A great local spot with free bikes to roam culver city without hassle. I would have never thought such a cute and modern hotel would be situated in Culver City, but it exists! This place is absolutely adorable - I fell in love with all of the interior decor and the outdoor patio space. It makes you feel like you're right by the beach. The rooms have "smart" features such as an iPad that controls the lights, shades and temp of the room. The television has a bunch of channels! The shower has a waterfall and handheld function (plus very spacious). The only weird thing is there is a glass that separates the bathroom from the rest of the room, but there is a curtain for privacy. The beds are super comfy. They offered free wine from 5-7PM plus a complimentary breakfast in the morning starting at 7AM. This hotel is also situated right by a plaza with Target, Pavilion's, CVS, etc. Not far from the 405 or Westfield Mall either! My only gripes were that there is only street parking which can be tough in Culver City where there are so many parking rules. Also, we checked in at 3:30 PM and our room was still not ready, and when we did go into our room, the iPad crashed right away and we had to switch to another room. Despite prior challenges, my 2nd stay at Mayumi was a bliss. Host Marco made me feel at home, and I enjoyed great talks with other guests at the happy hour (see picture). Afterwards I sipped wine and read at the community area before getting a good night's rest. Most importantly, the room's temperature control was working as expected, and a great night rest prepared me for my meeting the next morning. read more

Truly a wonderful location. Was in town for a quick two day business trip and extended the trip into the weekend after I got settled in. The location was perfect and gave me a full day on the beach in Santa Monica and a few hours in West Hollywood and Hollywood the following day before my flight. Might I also add, it's a short ride to the airport especially when you avoid the world famous LA Traffic LOL. Best part of my stay was getting shut out at Sugar Fish (my fault I showed up late) but luckily was able to pick up some salmon, veggies and cookie dough and was able to whip up my own meal in the stunning community kitchen. Blasted some Jimmy Buffet, finished my meal, and read my Siddhartha on a swing by their fire pit. Can't wait to return for a longer trip. Also I met some new friends by the fire pit! Horrible experience. Bed is not a double its a french bed (xltwin) you could never fit 2 people in this room comfortably. Beds are extremely firm, walls are paper thin, managment is non existent. I requested to cancel the 2nd night of my stay at 7 am and they told me too bad. Really horrendous customer service and experience all around. Would not recommend this hotel for anyone read more

I normally don't leave reviews that are negative. I had booked a 1 night stay for this hotel and unfortunately my flight was impacted by the recent nation-wide flight delays caused by the flight server failure in Arizona. Every flight in the US was either pushed back by 1/2 day, full day or completely cancelled. In my case, I couldn't get a flight for the rest of that night and therefore couldn't fulfill my reservation at Mayumi. When I tried to see if I could cancel my reservation, I had hoped they would be open to either giving me a partial credit or open to moving my reservation to a different future date. They wouldn't even do that and charged me the full night's stay, even with no way of traveling to Los Angeles that day. You'd think they would have made some type of exception considering the flight server failure impacted EVERY flight in the US. Really poor customer service. read more
