I normally don't leave reviews that are negative. I had booked a 1 night stay for this hotel and unfortunately my flight was impacted by the recent nation-wide flight delays caused by the flight server failure in Arizona. Every flight in the US was either pushed back by 1/2 day, full day or completely cancelled. In my case, I couldn't get a flight for the rest of that night and therefore couldn't fulfill my reservation at Mayumi. When I tried to see if I could cancel my reservation, I had hoped they would be open to either giving me a partial credit or open to moving my reservation to a different future date. They wouldn't even do that and charged me the full night's stay, even with no way of traveling to Los Angeles that day. You'd think they would have made some type of exception considering the flight server failure impacted EVERY flight in the US. Really poor customer service. read more

Some advantages -- some serious disadvantages. First the good: Clean, quiet, large appealing outdoor courtyard space; extremely convenient to my personal destination in Culver City; coffee and snacks available in morning. There was also a happy hour in early evening, but we didn't experience it, so I can't comment about it. Disadvantages: Safety -- there was an attempted break-in to our 1st floor room at 1:30 in morning. Front desk responded quickly and we moved to a 2nd floor room, but I have serious safety concerns due to easy access to first floor rooms. Perhaps make sure all window locks WORK and that guests are warned to leave windows locked. (Ours was broken and window did not close properly.) Or some other safety solution??? The bed in nearly all rooms is a double bed. This is no problem for one occupant, but may present challenges for some folks who share a bed. The room is tiny --- bathroom, although closed off from bed area by a glass partition and curtains, is 12 inches from the bed. It was challenging to maneuver on that side of the bed. Our initial reception was quite cool -- we were basically ignored. Although we pressed doorbell multiple times, no one responded to our call (is bell broken?). Eventually another guest was exiting the building and let us in. Reception person was there -- just poring over computer so didn't respond to our ring. I might have forgotten about this except when we were exiting building after check-in in, there was another guest waiting to be admitted -- so WE let them in. What's the scoop with this? I do want to say, though, that whenever we had a question or a request (additional towels, etc.) staff was very polite and responsive. So I'm not sure what's going on with the initial welcome. Look, this hotel was reasonable, it was very clean, quiet and convenient as mentioned above, but unless I'm reassured that I am not at risk for a break-in, I will not be booking it again. read more

This is a terrible hotel with a horrendous standard for the guest experience. Do no stay here - I repeat, do not stay here! I recently came to Los Angeles for a business trip and decided to book a room at Mayumi based on my colleague's recommendation. Unfortunately, I missed my flight and was unable to make the first night of my four-night reservation at the hotel. The hotel staff didn't check-in with me at all before cancelling my booking. Not only did they cancel my booking, they took the money for all four nights...yes, you read that correctly...they refused to honor any portion of my reservation and TOOK THE MONEY! The man working the reception desk was named Adam and he couldn't have cared less that it was 10pm on a Monday night and that I had no place to stay. He said the manager on-duty also didn't have the time to speak with me. It's nice to know a business will take your money and then not give you a single explanation for it... How is that even remotely acceptable for any business that cares about their guests? It's extremely apparent that the operators of Mayumi are only interested in making money and will attempt to do so any at any cost to their guests. For the sake of supporting businesses that actually care about the guest experience - please don't spend your money here. read more

I really did enjoy my stay here. It's not a traditional hotel at all, so if you're looking for that or lots of services and amenities you won't be happy. However, if you're looking for something more casual and independent, I think you'll really like this concept. I was there for 2 nights for a work trip, and it felt a little like I had my own little apartment in a small complex. Wine every night in the pretty kitchen area, continental breakfast (yogurt, yummy pastries, coffee) every morning...nice little touches. One evening I spent by the fire pit reading a book, sipping a glass of wine, and waiting for my yummy Seamless Thai delivery. Not bad. The main con is its location, but really once you're inside you don't even notice. (Also, in the description on my company's travel site it said parking was included...but it's street parking, so I don't know how you wouldn't include that. :D) The room is small and functional and clean, with a refrigerator and excellent toiletries. read more

I'm going to start my review off by saying this: I have NEVER written a review for a hotel or a motel before. That's not to say I haven't stayed at some really nice hotels in the past, but none of them struck me in the same way that Mayumi did. It looked cute when I was booking it, and it turned out to be even better than expected! I felt right at home the moment the associated let me in through the gate. They were super friendly, and attentive. I forgot my mask in the car and they offered one immediately instead of turning me away. I didn't get the chance to enjoy the courtyard too much as I was only there for a single night and got in late, but it was a pleasant, safe area secured by a gate with an inviting ambiance. There was a small group of 3 people sitting around a little fire. Off to the side there was a grill which no one was using, but super cool that they had one! The room was the real star of the show! I walked into a futuristic world of dark indigo, like I was on set for some "Fifth Element" style film. The décor was minimalistic without being obnoxious about it (I usually go for more of a cushiony, homey feel myself). The layout was unique (in the best way possible), AND I found out you could change the light in the room to be basically any color you could dream of! Can you tell I'm a huge fan of the lighting? To wrap up this exceedingly long review, I LOVED it, I was vert comfortable, I had everything I needed, and props to whoever was in charge of designing it. I was utterly disappointed with this place. I took a week long vacation to Disneyland with my friend and I booked several hotels and this was by far the most expensive and lowest quality. I'm taking a guess here so I could be wrong but this place felt like a fresh out of college person's attempt to set up a luxury hotel and having to cut many many corners after realizing how expensive it is to keep it running. Why do I say this? Firstly, the "check in" is just some dude on a laptop sitting in the kitchen. Me and my friend didn't even realize it was the check in - there were no signs or anything and the guy could easily have been some college dude working on a school essay. And the check in is literally in the kitchen! Secondly, as I was standing in line, the person in front of me was asking to switch his rooms because his had some sort of issue with it. The next person that came was given the wrong room or something of the sort and they had to sort them out. As I looked around throughout the day, I noticed there were no staff at all. There were a handful of younger people who looked like they were still in college and there was one mexican housekeeper (I say that as a testament to my theory that they overestimated costs and had to compensate with cheap labor sorry if that sounds racist) The room looked nice on first appearance but the bathroom had something sandy on the ground that kept sticking to my feet. The showers looked cool as well but the door doesn't seal shut so as you're taking a shower, the water leaks into the bathroom with no drain. The room runs on a device near the door that controls lighting and the drapes. It looks fancy at first until you realize it doesn't control the AC (there's none) and the controls glitch like nuts so if you wanna turn down the lights, prepare for a random barrage of light shows for the next few seconds. They also offer a complimentary breakfast in the morning. Nothing is more delicious than the wide selection of $2 stale pastries from the grocery store across the street. (okay i don't know if they bought them from there but it tasted cheap). Their breakfast selection was literally pre-made pastries and some fruit and toast. They don't have a parking lot either. They have a parking card that says to just park on the street but make sure to avoid street cleaning on monday and fridays. The location kinda sucks too. I used to live in the area a few years ago and while the street itself avoids the plague of LA traffic, trying to go anywhere is fairly difficult. This hotel has a cool European vibe. It is clean and fun. Comfy bed. No issues-street parking. The staff (Marco & Julie) were so very nice and accommodating, others were very helpful with luggage up the stairs. There is Complimentary wine in the evenings and in the morning The French pastries were fresh and amazing. Yes it is in a residential area with a small mall across the street but that helps make it a quiet location. I felt like The Mayumi was its own unique world in Culver City!? This place was more like a 3.5 stars for us. We were matched with Mayumi through Hotwire and I wished we stayed elsewhere. My first impression was that it reminded me of an apartment complex. You need a key or have someone open the door to even get to the front desk. We came around 12pm and the receptionist that opened the door for us did not greet us at all. Immediately the vibes were extremely awkward. I asked her if I could do an early checkin and she was like "well did you call to ask?". I'm not sure why we were met with attitude for a simple question but she checked and said our room was still being cleaned so we came back at 3:30PM. The room itself was on the first floor. It was pretty small and for some reason the huge bathroom took up half of it. The bathroom was also strange in that it was encased by clear glass and you pull a curtain around the whole glass for privacy - the logistics of that didn't make sense to me. The lighting in the room was very low for some reason and that made the visibility very poor. I didn't feel comfortable opening the blinds because that would allow people outside to see right into your room. There was no mini fridge or microwave in the room either. And the walls felt so thin as we were woken up by people having conversations outside and housekeeping vacuuming upstairs. When we went to checkout it was a different receptionist, and he didn't greet us either. Maybe the unfriendliness is just the LA vibe? Idk but I was sure as heck happy to get out of this lawless land and go back to SD. read more

This hotel is exactly what this area was missing. A modern and luxurious experience in an extremely central and developing area. I have visitors coming in from all over the world who are always stuck staying at one of the old, overpriced and to be frank unimpressive chain hotels. Mayumi is an absolute gem that checks all the boxes of what I am looking for for my guests. The rooms feature an abundance of modern technology, but have a minimalist design that wont overwhelm you. The patio is inviting and offers several different group seating areas. I'm also a big fan of the open kitchen, which is ideal for company events and gatherings. Really cute hotel in a convenient location. It's only three months old so everything is new. Nice interior/exterior design. Very modern and clean style. Mostly grays with accents of color. TV and phone in rooms, but I'm not sure the one in our room was hookded up yet. We have cells, so it was not an issue. I had trouble figuring out the controls for the shower (there are two heads and two controls but not sure which does what). They don't charge for parking because it's just street parking. Be sure to check the signs, because Mondays and Fridays there are street sweeping on different nearby streets, so you could get a ticket. They have a complementary breakfast and friendly staff. A bit pricey for what you get, but the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good. It would have been nice if they had a list of things that were nearby and a diagram for how to use the shower controls... read more

The hotel itself is okay, however, their customer service is appalling. They don't seem to have a basic handle on how to navigate their own payment systems and are incapable of taking accountability or resolving any issues that arise. I spent 1 night here a month ago. I was charged twice for the stay and have been unable to get the second charge reversed. Booked through a 3rd party, which charged my card. I saw later that the hotel, itself, charged my card as well. After some back/forth, Guy Tomer, the general manager, realized that, rather than charging the 3rd party directly, the hotel charged my card by mistake. He then said that he'd gone ahead and charged the 3rd party card, however could not refund my credit card as "due to MasterCard new restrictions on refunds, payment could not be successfully refunded back to your card." First of all, the card they'd charged was a Visa. Regardless, the bank insisted that no such restrictions exist. Guy emailed the next day and said he'd run the refund through successfully. A month later, I still have yet to receive the refund. I contacted Guy again who insisted that he has processed the refund. The 3rd party was also of little help. Now I need to go through the trouble of contesting the charge with my credit card. PS... the entire thing has been extra frustrating as there's apparently never a manager on site. Over the course of a month, neither Guy nor any other manager, has ever once been at the hotel when I've called. read more

I found this hotel online and took a chance. I wanted to be near a friend in Culver City. I absolutely loved Mayumi. It is a small, private and quiet space in busy Culver City. I was a solo traveler. My room small and compact, but spotless and beautiful. Excellent bed, spacious bath and shower, plenty of storage for a multiple day stay. The court yard is wonderful. Great plantings, firepit in the evening - very comfortable for.the guests to sit out and read, eat, and just enjoy the ambiance. They have a nice contenintental breakfast. They also have a daily happy hour. The staff was great. I so recommend this hotel. read more

Guest services is really polite and professional, they are appreciated. For the price, between $200 - $250/night, not worth it. Where is the Bluetooth technology options in the room? I cannot connect my smart phone to the t.v. because the option wasn't in the tv settings. Lame. The cable channel options not good. Thank god for espn. I didn't expect the room to be so tiny from the looks of the pictures. I'm convinced this is a college dorm. The room was super clean. No microwave in the room though, only out front to share, i got hungry in the middle of the night and wanted to heat up some left overs, when I realized I had leave the room to heat it up, I said forget it. --oh and forget sleeping in the morning, at 7am you can hear everything, including the upstairs guests stomping/walking back and forth, and the window shade is no help the room is extra bright so like I said, if you plan on sleeping in before the 11am Check out, forget it. The shower is nice but water gets all over the floor in the bathroom and even outside the bathroom if you're not careful next thing you know is you have a pond that needs to be drained I'm surprised there hasn't been complaints of slip and falls, probably because you don't need step over anything while getting out of the shower but I did not like that I discovered my bag soaked in water I had placed on the floor. I had a friend over the 2nd night and he mentioned jokingly that luckily neither of us needed to take a crap because we would be screwed with the glass walls and the curtain that provide absolutely no privacy. The room is super clean but lacks comfort. In conclusion, I think everyone should ask to look at the room before actually paying for it, if you're curious about this place and have $200 + to spare, judge for yourself. But if you can find another hotel with more comfortable real hotel amenities, go there, if not, this one will do for an alternative due to the cleanliness and location. read more

Mayumi is a pretty unique hotel -- small, modern boutique style. They've done a great job with the limited space they have, both with the arrangement of the rooms and courtyard and in the rooms themselves. I was pretty happy with the helpfulness of the staff, especially when I arrived in the morning and they helped me get into my room much earlier than regular check-in time. The continental breakfast in the morning was great as well. Even though the rooms were motel style, I felt safe while there by myself. The shopping center across the street was very convenient for getting anything I needed, considering I didn't have a car. The rooms themselves are very small (as are the bathrooms), as others have noted, and the bed is only full size, so although it was perfect for me as a solo traveler, I would've felt a little cramped even if my husband had been with me. Overall, I recommend Mayumi and would stay here again in a similar situation. read more

I stayed here for two nights this past week for a business trip and was not impressed. I was convinced by the reviews that this would be a nice boutique hotel with some high-tech touches that would be good for business travel. At this price point, I wasn't expecting a 5-star experience, but their site and the reviews kept touting it as a luxury experience, so I gave in. However, it seemed like nothing more than a facade of luxury. First, there were some aspects of it that were nice. It was indeed very clean. I am terrified of bed bugs and hotel upholstery, but the sheets and comforter both looked well washed, and the property is fairly new so it still has the new feel. The TV was large and had many channels (DirecTV), so that was nice for nighttime TV watching. The location is also nice. It's kind of in this neighborhood that's also across from a strip mall and a bunch of fast food restaurants. Things felt pretty safe. Didn't see any shady characters at night (although it also was raining on and off so they might have gone to hide inside). People raved about the complimentary continental breakfast, but aside from caneles, nothing was elevated from your usual continental breakfast (it was just toast, a toaster, some croissant pastries, muffins, fruit, and Chobani yogurt). I wasn't impressed. This is also definitely a hotel for solo travelers, or couples who are fairly close and comfortable with each other. The bed is only full size, and the bathroom wall is actually glass. There is a curtain you can wrap around it, but it just seems a little TOO intimate if your bed is literally right next to the clear glass wall of the shower and you can also see the toilet. There are two main things that are contributing to this mere 2 star rating. First, is that the sound insulation is absolutely horrid. I could hear EVERY footstep my upstairs neighbor took as well as the showers of my two adjacent neighbors. The front door was thin and seemed like it didn't properly seal to the doorframe because I could hear everything going on outside, and little flies slipped in (and I could see light coming through from the cracks). I was trying to decide between Mayumi and other similarly priced business hotels in the area (Hilton, 4 points at the Sheraton, etc.), and i have NEVER heard my upstairs neighbor at the chain business hotels. You can hear everything anyone passing by outside is saying. The construction of this building seems really shoddy with facades of modernity like the touch screen panel and colored ambient lighting in the ceiling put in. But when it comes down to it, you can hear the difference in quality between this and actual luxury hotels. This is definitely not recommended for light sleepers at all, which is pretty disappointing because I feel like you should feel comfortable at a hotel. The second detractor kind of feeds off of the aforementioned: they play music in the lobby and in the courtyard from 7:30 am to around 8:30 pm. Now, this doesn't sound so bad at first. It's pretty standard. However, the layout of this hotel is that all rooms are accessed through doors that open up to a central outdoor courtyard. Within this courtyard, the have speakers set up to play the music. The problem is, because the doors are so thin and the building's insulation is so bad, you can hear this music very loudly from your room (or at least the room I was staying in, room 108). I could hear this music over the fan that I kept going for white noise AND my TV. I know that I am sensitive to sounds, but I actually had to call the front desk one morning and ask them to please turn it down just a little. They were compliant with it, but seemed confused, but I could still hear it. There was no one in the courtyard the whole time that I was there (albeit, it had been raining... but on and off). I don't think people would MISS the music particularly in the courtyard. It was just some generic lobby top 40s-sounding music. In the lobby, this music seems fine since it is a contained space, but having this music directly outside of people's rooms starting at 7:30 am and going on for more than 12 hours just seems very inconveniencing. I was hoping to take some calls in my room, but decided against it because my client on the first call could hear the music from the courtyard even though I was in my room. PLEASE stop playing music in the courtyard, or reduce the volume significantly. It really doesn't add that much, but detracts SO much. I definitely do not recommend this hotel if you are looking for peace and quiet, no matter how clean it is. The "modern touches" get real gimmicky real quick when you hear every move your neighbor makes and some medley of Jason Mraz, Toto, and Lady Gaga (all fine in their own right, but not when you're just trying to sleep in after a long day in meetings) starting at 7:30 am. read more

Fun, funky, minimalistic hotel! It's very clean and offers a unique designed room. The room is small and basic. The mattresses (thinking not quite a queen size) are very comfortable. The shower is all glass and centered in the room. (Curtain all around for privacy if needed). The amenities (soap, shampoo, etc) are of good quality. The in room refrigerator is a nice touch. The entire room is controlled by a panel (lighting, (mood colors included), shades, temp, etc. The courtyard is fantastic! We, unfortunately, didn't get to enjoy it as much as we would have because the weather did not cooperate. The reception/kitchen/gathering area is very nice. Continental breakfast and evening wines very good. All in all, a fun choice and a pleasant surprise! read more

I came across this hotel on a boutique hotel website, and when I booked a room it seemed to look promising. When I arrived I could see that it was even better in-person. This is a terrific hotel, small enough to keep it quiet but with enough high-design to give it a real "Cool factor". The staff was super nice and helpful. The owners really did give it a lot of thought when constructing the hotel. Just about everything is included in each room, even though the rooms are smallish. There is a digital control panel that gives you control of the heating/cooling, lights, and the electric shade system for the windows. There is an all glass, oversized shower enclosure that takes up a bit of floor space in the room, but it's space that you really don't need. But because the shower is glass, it makes the room feel larger. There are plenty of receptacles for chargers as well as USB ports for charging all your devices. There is a good sized desk to do some work at as well as shelving to store whatever you need, which is in addition to the closet. There's a refrigerator hidden inside a lower closet door that barely makes a sound, so you're not kept up with the noise. There's a large flat screen with a nice high def picture, and there's LED ceiling lights for mood. In the morning you'll find a continental breakfast and plenty of common areas to eat at whether it's inside or outside. They designed a water feature to reduce any city noise that you might hear, although I barely heard any. They have three rattan basket swings for chillin, as well as a fire pit to sit around to just relax at. The fit and finishes of the outside of the hotel, as well as inside the rooms is very nice. Make no mistake, this is not the Bellagio, but I certainly don't need that. No, this hotel has a definite Asian and Scandinavian vibe. If you want a hotel that's just minutes from Manhattan Beach, to Malibu, to Beverly Hills, to Culver City, and close to LAX, then Mayumi is your new hotel. I for one will book a room here again when I need to do business in L. A. Or, just to enjoy a weekend in L.A. read more

What a pleasant stay at the Mayumi! Loved the minimalist features in the room and the lovely outdoor living area to hang out and socialize. The room was very compact but exacting in what we would need. Lots of storage. The lights, shades, and climate were all controlled by a smart wifi home device. Very cool and very clean! We booked a last minute stay here so to avoid the long drive back to Palm Springs. It's very modern looking and at a good location. Across the street from shopping and food if you don't want to travel far. They offer an evening manager's hour with wine. There is morning breakfast offerings. Wireless internet is included. The room has a fridge, TV, and desk. The place is nice, clean, and quiet. The room is small but we didn't need much space. Parking is on the street, but it's not hard to find a spot. We didn't mind walking a little. read more

I would definitely recommend staying at Mayumi. The staff, host, and management were all kind and accommodating. You should know that this is not your typical hotel - just look at the pictures. It's not 5-star luxury but it's more than enough to enjoy your stay. If you're opposed to anything outside of a typical hotel experience then this won't be for you. I would say that's it's best for solo travelers and couples rather than large families. Yes the court yard does play music but I didn't find it obtrusive. To anyone new to LA ... it's a big city especially when you factor in traffic. Mayumi is actually in a pretty central location. If you plan on traveling all over town during your stay ... Stayed at Mayumi over the weekend. I was impressed. Staff was very professional. The rooms, modern and comfortable. And my favorite part, the courtyard. It is very tranquil, beautiful and peaceful. There is a complimentary continental breakfast and in the afternoon they have the managers special, with drinks. read more
