It was so painful from beginning to the end of the afternoon tea on Mother's Day. Understaffed and undertrained employees did not know how to service afternoon tea properly. We're hoping least the sandwiches and sweets will make up for the chaos of who is serving us and when is the service coming. I used to come here a lot about 15 years ago, but I hadn't been since then, and it was such a delight to find that this little area of Culver City has been able to keep up its vibe! The Culver Hotel is such a sweet little find. They offer live music most days of the week and the vibe inside is trendy-chill. There is the velvet room lounge upstairs, which has more of a club-glam feel, if you're more in the mood for that. We wanted something more chill. We didn't dine there (although maybe we should have because the spot we chose down the street was not great) but wanted to stop in for some live music and a nightcap. They don't have Tito's vodka at the bar but they do have chopín which is gluten free. My dirty martini was perfect - and paired with the jazz music - we had a lovely ending to a fine evening. The Culver Hotel & Bar is a great place to meet up with friends, clients or to just hang out at their bar. Thursday evening they had a Jazz Trio which was a really nice gesture of the hotel. My client and I met up here for cocktails and dinner Thursday. When I arrived, there wasn't anyone manning the host desk.... I was early for my reservation though, so I headed over to the bar and had a pre-drink. I wasn't immediately served at the bar, in their defense they were busy. However I was finally acknowledged and told he had 2 orders before me. He was true to his word, he made a couple of drinks and then came over to take my drink order. My clients arrived, the hostess was there and we were immediately seated. The waiter immediately came over and we ordered cocktails & appetizers. We ordered a dozen oysters, Deviled Eggs & Fries to start. The oysters were great, deviled eggs were a little bland but the fries were good. For dinner we ordered the Burger, Spicy Rigatoni with chicken and the Short Ribs. The food was okay, but I don't think anything stood out for any of us. After dinner we went upstairs to the bar & lounge. The space is medium size, with well position seating. They had a DJ in the evening which really set the ambiance. Always love The Culver's wonderful lounge and super eclectic and comfortable outdoor space - both very dog friendly for well mannered pups. They have a very tasty French onion soup that I get every visit, the steak with frittes quite delicious, always solid service and well crafted cocktails. The location is beautiful and there's a public parking garage right there. If I lived closer I imagine this might be a regular spot to meet people and have drinks. I had the spicy rigatoni and added chicken. I prefer my pasta a little "wetter" with a little extra sauce ... This was served with no extra sauce ( I guess I should have asked for more). The pasta was cooked well, maybe just a hair past al dente, and the sauce had good flavor. Although, it was called "spicy" I didn't find it particularly spicy. Still, it was good. My friend had the sea bass and said it was good. But it looked cut a bit thin to me. The service was fine, though a little slow. I didn't feel particularly welcomed by the hostess when I arrived a little earlier than the rest of my party -- she just waved me to the bar and seemed too busy to look up and ask if I wanted to be seated or ask if I wanted anything. Finally made it to the Culver Hotel for dinner (had only been for tea) and it was genuinely so incredible. The service was impeccable and the vibes were awesome. Huge points for the live music. I felt like I was in NYC the whole time. I loved it. The food was delicious from the bread to the appetizers to the mains. Nothing missed! I am bummed that the truffle carbonara pasta I ordered (best I ever had, truly) was leaving the menu the following day for a seasonal pasta to come in, but I'm excited to try their seasonal offerings and of course, the carbonara will be back! My husband and I stopped by the Culver Hotel while walking around the area. We decided to come in for some drinks, and we both really enjoyed what we ordered. The drinks were tasty and well made. Nothing fancy, but definitely solid. The inside of the hotel is gorgeous. It's beautifully decorated with that classic vintage vibe, which makes it a really cool spot to hang out. Plus, the location in Culver City is super convenient if you're walking around. It's easy to get to and close to lots of other great spots. One of my favorite bars to get a nice cocktail with friends or for a business meeting after hours. Outdoor patio has a nice bustle but doesn't feel crowded or noisy. Indoor area has plenty of little nooks to sit and have pleasant conversations. Bartenders make great drinks and are friendly. A friend & I were here recently for our holiday treat of the High Tea. We have been here several times for the High Tea & it's always a wonderful experience. We were a bit surprised by the attitude of the hostess. She had an edge & wasn't welcoming at all. We had arrived a bit early for our 12 pm reservation. There were several open tables when we arrived. The High Tea was as wonderful as ever. The server was very attentive & professional. We asked to speak to the Manager to voice our concerns. Antonia Stearns was kind enough to chat with us. She listened to our comments & was sorry to hear about our experience with the hostess. She apologized for the hostess & made sure that we were satisfied with the meal. Kudos to Ms. Stearns for listening to our feedback. We will definitely be returning for the High Tea, as we enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. It's a treat to escape one's day life for awhile & enjoy the High Tea experience. The hotel is beautifully decorated for the holidays. We walked around the area afterwards to see the other holiday decorations. All in all, another great experience at The Culver Hotel. Note this review is purely for the afternoon tea and i've only gone once: Simply put, not worth it. They were significantly understaffed which meant very long wait times. These lovely folks in tea hats next to us had been there for 2 hours and didn't finish their drinks they were so frustrated. The actual service had good tea, but $90 to cover one pot of tea and a set of mediocre snacks was not worth it. At 50 bucks this would be totally worth it. At a 90 dollar price point without any additional drinks or food and poor service this was not. pros: the place is gorgeous and the drinks were wonderful. I would totally try to go again. read more

Now named the Culver Hotel Restaurant & Bar we visited for high tea on a Sunday morning. Compared to high tea at the "The Living Room" of the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills starting at $130 pp this experience was a great value at only $75. Live pianist every Sunday morning. A girlfriend and I brought our daughters. The staff were all friendly & patient with the kids. My daughter loved the first course - an edible chocolate vessel of berries topped with cream. Crab cakes were served warm & perfection. Vadouvan chicken sandwiches were so good - the best I've ever had. I want an entire sandwich of this! The scone was huge & I had to take it home. A bit of mixed feelings about this historic hotel in downtown culver city. We stayed overnight for their NYE event. I loved the vintage style of this hotel so much. The check in area was a tiny desk and front desk staff were friendly. Our culver suite was spacious and cozy. Two bathrooms were very convenient. I liked the standing tub and took a hot bubble bath in it. Bed and pillows were comfortable enough. I liked the room but the amenities and services were very lacking. No valet so hotel guests just park cars overnight at Trader Joe's second floor for a fee. Bell service had to be called in, basic amenities in the room were not enough, I couldn't even find lotions! Glad I brought my own! Although I really liked the vintage style of this hotel but the lack of services and amenities put me off. Don't think we will stay here again! At least all staff were very friendly and pleasant the entire time. And the location was very convenient to walk to restaurants and bars nearby. read more

My husband and I are excited to try the Feast and Film experience --a "two-in-one" dinner at the hotel paired with tickets to the theater next door. The experience requires you to schedule dinner 90 minutes before your chosen movie, which we did. Unfortunately, you can't select seats or reserve movie tickets in advance. You only receive a voucher once you arrive at the restaurant. That means you're essentially gambling on which movie will still have good seats available on your preplanned dinner. For a boutique hotel and theater partnership, we expected a bit more coordination between the two. If you enjoy a little risk with your date night, reserve away. I forgot how much I love great pastry. No notes. The egg sandwich was a safe bet, and it's kinda hard to mess that up, especially on brioche. The husband's breakfast burrito was boring and bland. The side of sad green salsa didn't help matters. But it was the inattentive service that really missed the mark. Truly uninterested staff. Very bizarre. Delicious afternoon tea! We came at 1:30pm and they were really scattered. They missed quite a few sandwiches and got confused. It took over 30 minutes before someone came to bring us the right tea. Depending on your room, you may have a view of Culver City. ​​They serve breakfast every day, which is very amazing because it's downstairs in the hotel. It includes an amazing assortment of drinks and baked goods. Tea, fresh fruit, and croissants were always my favorite combination. There's a great menu with a variety of food and cocktails at the restaurant and bar inside! They have salad, grilled Mediterranean seabassa, spicy rigatoni, and more. I had the juicy, Culver Burger and paired it with a crisp Prosecco. Overall my time here was quite enjoyable, and I am eager to return. I would definitely suggest staying here. read more

Had dinner a couple nights ago- it was a Monday evening and the resto was not busy. The Bordier butter was literally melted when served to us. This completely changes the flavor of the butter and as a result the appetizer was not good. When I asked the server if they always serve the butter melted in a ramekin he said it was so that it was easy to spread. It was just too warm, basically ghee at that point and not good. French onion soup was meh. Simonette a few feet away has a better soup. Spicy rigatoni was definitely spicy and honestly also not that good. Something about the presentation, swimming in sauce that reminded me of what canned pasta looks like. My salad arrived dressed when despite ordering dressing on the side. By the time they brought my salad back (with the dressing on the side) my husband's rigatoni was lukewarm and almost done (I had insisted he start eating it). We are busy, married couple so going out to dinner is a huge feat for us and I really wanted to eat at the same time as he was. Further, they removed his plate before I was done with my salad so it seemed as if I was eating alone at our table. This last thing is just a pet peeve of mine. The zeal with which they were bussing dishes did not match the quality of the food or overall service. They completely forgot my French fries but didn't make a big deal when I asked for them removed from our check. Lastly, we ordered crème brûlée and apple crumble for dessert. We were then informed that they "ran out" of crème brûlée - so disappointing. We decided to just share the apple crumble and 3 bites in and I had a JAGGED PIECE OF PLASTIC in my mouth. The food had been been so mediocre up until then I first thought I had an uncooked oat from the crumble in my mouth. I removed it to realize it was literally a piece of the cutting board from their kitchen in my mouth. The manager that night was new and was appropriately mortified. He apologized, took our credit card (which surprised us) and then immediately returned to our table to tell us we weren't going to be charged for (correct response). Meanwhile, I'm still in shock over the fact that I almost swallowed a piece of jagged plastic. He offered us a free meal when we return (of course we would never return) and later messaged my husband to reaffirm the Hotel's desire to comp another meal and make it right. Probably a nice place to sit at bar and have a drink. You can get the old movie vibes without risking your life or risking esophageal tears. The manager did what he could in terms of service recovery but everyone in charge of the kitchen needs to reevaluate how they will keep customers safe from life altering injuries like swallowing a jagged piece of plastic. read more

My group of 6 were ready to dine in for the afternoon tea and were greatly disappointed. We were greeted by 2 different waiters right away but then they did not come by for 30 minutes. There was only 1 other table besides our group and had to wave down our waiters everytime we were ready to order or have to ask for more water. We ordered champagne and had to ask multiple times to see where our champagne was. I noticed the other table who sat down after us got their glasses of champagne before us as well. The wait staff also didn't put in the correct entree/sandwhich and gave us the wrong one but we didn't want to wait to get a new one since it already took them awhile to bring our food. While the ambiance and vibe is always fantastic, I was quite disappointed with the food and the value. The burrata salad was delish, but my chicken piccata portion was really small and didn't come with any sides or vegetables which is ridiculous for a $30 entree. My date's sea bass also had very little meat and she had to pick at it to find any. One would think that for $50, you'd get a piece of fish with more than a few ounces of fish. We came here for lunch at Lilly's with friends, and I just had to visit the lobby of this century-old hotel that was part of filmmaking history. The lobby features high arched windows, a fireplace, a small front desk, and Lilly's. Two posters of pictures by photography legend George Hurrell look down on the lobby -- one of Clark Gable, the other of Joan Crawford. A beautiful old location here in Culver City. I met friends on a Saturday for lunch, but they only have their "brunch" which consists of only breakfast items. I had the breakfast burrito which was something like what you would get in a 7-11 warming case for 19$. Seemed premade hours ago with hard scrambled egg rolled in a tortilla. No bueno. My friends and I like to go out for High Tea occasionally. * Parking- if it wasn't a weekend this might be doable in THE STEPS parking garage nearby. If I HAVE to pay to park(and I HATE to pay to park), then $2 is my kind of parking! * The food- High Tea is $65. But add in sales tax, wellness surcharge and tip and I paid $82! I should have left more for a tip but I ran out of cash. I had the Mountain Berry tea which was good. We got macerated berries with cream that was supposed to have orange liquor. But we couldn't taste the liquor. Then the tower came and included, several sandwiches (see my menu pic), some tiny desserts and one scone each. The desserts were not made in house! We inquired about the fruit flavor of one of them and our server had to ask. One of the scones was burnt on the bottom. The chicken salad was my favorite. * The service - was slow. It seemed there was one person taking care of the whole room! * The building- was old and really cool. There were swan/duck bathroom faucets. The decor was great. It was fun. The review is for the dining section, Lillie's. It has been a while since I have been to this hotel. Pre-pandemic was the last time. I used to live down the street from here and dropped by every night after work. I missed it so much. Now, I live on the other side of town and only come to the Westside when I have free time or when I'm feeling nostalgic. This was a nostalgic night. I dropped in without a reservation and was lucky to get a seat. I ordered the nearest old fashion and steak frites. The drink was sublime! I loved it. The steak frites was hot and delicious. A perfect medium on the steak and hot and crunchy fries with a soft inner. A+ for the meal. I love a well seasoned steak and this was it. The atmosphere was also great with the hosts being friendly and welcoming. My waitress polite, attentive, and friendly. Let's not forget that there is live music and it was great jazz. I loved listening and watching people dance while I had my meal. It was like a perfect show. I got to relax and fill my tummy with the best food and drink!
