It is on the smaller side but filled with interesting information and dedicates a lot of space to the history and artifacts of the Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe. The Lake is the largest of the Carolina Bays. The bays are multiple oval-shaped lakes that were likely formed over the last ice age. The Waccamaw Siouan Indian Tribe viewed the lake's formation as the result of a meteor that left a deep crater. The Visitor Center explores that theory, as well as others. Lake Waccamaw was a logging town, and cypress trees were used for shingles. The weather-resistant shingles were chosen for George Washington's home in Mt. Vernon. Fifty years after the Lake Waccamaw Dam was built, the state established a state park. It started at 273 acres, but over time, more land was acquired, and the park is now 2,300 acres. The park is considered a hyper-unique ecosystem because the limestone bluff keeps the water clear, and the alkaline conditions support fish and mollusk species found only here, and nowhere else in the world, such as the Waccamaw spike mussel and the Waccamaw darter fish. They have a fossilized skull of a Balaenula whale that swam through the coastal plain millions of years ago. The Lake Waccamaw State Park is home to black bears, bobcats, carnivorous plants, and American alligators. Though the rain kept me inside this time, the park also features several trails and a scenic boardwalk that I look forward to exploring on a sunny day.

We've had a house in Sunset for close to 10 years but have somehow never made our way over here…read moreuntil this past weekend. We've heard tons of good things about it too. We came on a day when we thought the weather at the beach was going to be less than ideal - lucky for us, the Zipline tours operate rain or shine. We ended up having great weather for it too! It was super easy to book. Once we got there, they got us kitted out, then we went through a quick (yet thorough) instruction on how to safely zipline. It was a group of 5 of us plus our guides. The tour took about 2 - 2.5 hours, and you get to go on 10 different ziplines. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon. Especially if the weather is going to be less than ideal and you need some way to kill time. Our tour guides, Chase, Miles, and Zach, were great! Thanks y'all!

For the Zipline tour, we had Jesse, Margaret, and Lacey as our guides and all of them were great! Jesse is very fun and funny, Margaret is super sweet, and Lacey had amazing knowledge on fun facts throughout the tour! The zip lines were very fun, and all three guides took every measure to ensure our safety, creating a good sense of trust. We all felt like a group of friends by the end of our tour. They also take photos at the beginning, middle, and end of the tour with specific spots for photo ops which I truly appreciate! (You do have to pay for the photos.) I will absolutely recommend The Swamp Park to friends and family! We plan to come back and try the ATV tour next!

I was a little hesitant to visit Lynnwood Park Zoo at first because the pictures I saw online and…read morereviews I have read made it seem a bit run-down--but I'm so glad we decided to go. I was completely wrong! This zoo is nestled in the woods, giving the animal exhibits a much more natural, peaceful feel. It really seems like the animals are in an environment that's closer to their natural habitat. One of the highlights of our visit was a staff member who let us interact with some of the animals--my kids got to hold a snake, a lizard, and even a big tortoise. He was super knowledgeable and shared all kinds of fun facts about the animals. It was definitely my kids' favorite part of the trip! The only thing I would suggest is updating the exhibit signs. Some of them are worn out and could really use some color photos and clearer information to help visitors learn more about the animals. Overall, a great experience that far exceeded our expectations!

They were wonderful to talk to and I could sure see that they loved their jobs. I had saw the good reviews about this place and heard from some people that it was way better than the horrendous zoo inn Wilmington so I wanted to check it out. When you pull in you feel like it is a joke. Kind of Like a horror movie vibe- actually the whole way through. Small ticket booth and a sign for toilets that were port a potty's The signs on the animals are so faded that you can't read them. Half of the Angolans are not even in their cages and some of the ones that were looked SO unhappy. Especially the monkeys and fox. I really felt like I was on a haunted trail walking through here. One sexton was a quiet zone cause the animals were "sensitive". This was the saddest excuse for a "zoo" that I ever saw. Atleast the animals looked healthy which was a plus. I did enjoy getting to hold some of the animals up close. I know this was only $13 but I don't feel it was even worth that. Literally..you couldn't read the signs and to feed the animals you had to throw the food over towel huge fences and most of the time it hir them on their heads. I didn't take pictures of the faded signs or the overgrown things because I was focusing in the good. So, the pics you see were by far the best of the best there.
