I cannot even begin to properly express my sincere gratitude and praise for Dr. Ghodsian and his incredible staff of kind hearted and knowledgeable souls. Earlier this fall I was 9ish weeks into one of the most excruciatingly painful and helpless medical states of my life. Stress induced, ptsd compounded colorectal problems left me with a prolapsed internal thromboses hemorrhoid (a hemorrhoid with an internal blood clot that had been terrifyingly slipping in and out of my rectum) that caused something Dr's refer to as the "exquisite pain" due to the strong level of the pain's intensity. As a result I could not move my bowels for over 9 weeks. This resulted in a dangerous degree of fecal impaction and bowel/lower colon blockage. I first went to UCLA ER where a cruel, unfeeling male attending Dr did not even examine me yet still yelled at me and sent me home with a prescription for a $2700 laxative. I was desperate by the time I found Dr. Ghodsian. His incredibly compassionate staff fit me in for a same day appointment around 6pm. (I think they stayed open later just to help me out). I gave a verbal history of my symptoms and medical history-including a diagnosis most MD's haven't even heard of called Hyper-mobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. (HEDS) Dr Ghodsian knocked my socks off when he nodded and explained the connection between HEDS and gut motility disorders like mine (gastroparesis). He allowed my husband to stay in the exam room and hold my hand and also brought the kindest female staff members into the room to put me at ease and hold my other hand. He verbally informed me of everything that he was about to do before he acted - giving me so much respectful and thoughtful security (while I was in an admittedly awkward and vulnerable position). Still, I braced for an increase in pain that never materialized. He was extremely gentle, quick, and effective. His wealth of knowledge, empathy, and experience led him to assess my situation right away and he gave me his very easy to comprehend thoughts on what was going on with my body. He calmly but firmly urged me and my husband to go straight to the emergency room at Cedars Sinai Hospital (his practice wasn't far away from the hospital which was really helpful considering it was rush hour LA traffic ). He diagnosed my specific hemorrhoid condition and informed me of his concern that the 9-10 weeks of impacted fecal matter/lower colon and bowel obstruction could be in danger of rupturing and/or cutting of blood and oxygen supply that could lead to fast spreading necrosis (tissue death) of my colon. He assured me that he was a Cedars affiliated physician and said that while we drove to the ER he would be calling ahead to make sure that they understood the time sensitivity of my condition and ensure that I was given fast priority care that would allow for me to go get quick and urgent treatment from the moment I entered the ER as well as reporting his diagnostic notes and time sensitive concerns to pass on to the ER medical team. By the time we got to Cedars they were expecting me and rushed me through the ER intake process. My husband got a call on his cell phone at 8pm. It was Dr Ghodsian! He assured us that he'd call the on-duty ER attending Dr to make sure that the specialty imaging tests I needed were ordered. The kind attending Dr. followed all of Dr Ghodsian's recommendations and had me admitted to the actual hospital (vs just the ER) with a 5am consult scheduled w/the head of Cedars GI surgical team. The last of 5 phone calls from Dr. G was 12:45am. He said to call him at home if we needed anything overnight & asked my husband to call with an update after my surgical consult. Cedar's head GI surgeon was thoroughly impressed by Dr G's expertise and notes and put me on his surgical schedule asap. I spent 7 days there getting great care. All rite, let's get to chase. He wanted me to do a colonoscopy (of course, in my case, he does not take my ins so his portion was going to be a substantial amount and that wasn't including any other cost that would be billed to surgery center). He said he could not for certain say what was going on after I had followed protocol regimen that he provided me for 2 weeks (the pain got so bad and that alone gave me anxiety as I thought how would I make it through a prep?). On top of this I had seen him twice, and paid a good amount being he does not bill my insurance. I ended up going to get a second opinion very next day after my second appt here as the pain was intolerable. I had to function at work. The other doctor figured out the issue in 3 min of seeing me, he was kind of perplexed why the doctor couldn't see what clearly was issue and I felt relief the very next day after two weeks of torture ! Its been around 2 months, I have healed 100 percent, no issues. I'm so glad I got a second opinion. The best part is the second doctor was within my network and accepted insurance. He was just amazing, great bed side manner as well as took time to explain everything thoroughly. I couldn't believe I went through two weeks of torture only to experience relief the very next day with another doctor, no colonoscopy needed. I was so upset! So in my case, second opinion was everything. Healthcare is difficult to navigate, and finding experienced, great physicians are even harder in my opinion. read more

I am so so grateful that I found Dr. Ghodsian's office. After seeing 2 other doctors who didn't help me with the issue I was having I finally found Dr. G. At my first appointment he went through my health and family health history thoroughly and gave me multiple suggestions to help prevent future issues. When discussing my issue I went to see him for he was very kind, honest and straightforward about what the best option was and why, and we decided on a small in- office procedure. I had the surgery 2 weeks ago and am super happy with the entire process. Dr. G and his office are super thorough with my pre and post op instructions, and made it clear that they're always available if I have any questions. The procedure itself went really well, I was scared about pain but the numbing cream and shots that were used ensured that I felt nothing. They also all continuously checked in on me to make sure I was okay and didn't feel anything. I felt very comfortable throughout the whole process and knew that I was in great hands with Dr. Maz and his staff- they clearly know exactly what they're doing. I cannot express enough how much Dr. Ghodsian and his team helped me. After 3 months of chronic excruitiating pain, misdiagnosis from the hospital, endless calls and visits to my primary doctor, waiting for a referral to come in the mail just in order to see a specialist at the hopes of getting some type of relief. I couldn't work, barely walk or even sit down. I was defeated and running out of hope. I googled hemorrhoid doctor near me (at the time I thought that what was going on) and found Dr. Ghodsian. I was nervous because I knew they probably didn't take my insurance - considering all of the issues I was already facing with my insurance. I called and they were extremely helpful. His medical assistants were able to get me an appointment that following week. They were honest and upfront about not being able to take my insurance - so everything would have to be done out of pocket (at this point I didn't care - I would find a way to pay it.) Once I came to my appointment, I was greeted very kindly and they made me hopeful even though I was skeptical since up to this point nobody was able to help me. I was told they needed to do a scope first to see what was going on. He immediately was able to prescribe me medication & creams to ease the pain but suggest I have a colonoscopy to see if there were further issues. The creams and medication given to me relieved my pain within a week or two which I was then able to resume to a more "normal" life. I can't tell you how grateful I was to be feeling better. Dr. Ghodsian and his team were caring and reassuring throughout the entire process. After the colonoscopy, it was decided I would need surgery. At this point, I was scared but after all I had been through I could handle it. Throughout my recovery the medical assistants were always available to me, either it was through email or phone. I was given an updated post visit checklist after every visit which was also very helpful. Also, I am a woman so the fact that his entire team were women and seemed to be around my age made me feel even more at ease. I have been suffering with pain along with discomfort for about a year now and he really took his time to come up with a regimen that catered to my problem. Dr. Ghodsian is the best! To start off, when we called to inquire about an appointment for an elderly family member, we called multiple times with a whole bunch of questions and each time, the questions were answered with patience and a lot of detailed explanations. After finally making an appointment, the communications with the office and on submitting necessary forms were also painless and easy. On the day of the appointment, we were, again, welcomed with open arms and big smiles. Anna (sorry if I misspell your name) took us in. Seeing that we were dealing with an elderly having difficulty walking, she was patient and had the nicest smiles each time she had to answer a question. We were also provided with a translator, Nicole, who was not just a translator but also a medical student. She was able to translate and explain each step of the way to us. Nicole walked us through every step of the way in the appointment and made the family member extra comfortable in knowing she was getting all the information and all her questions answered. Prior to going to the appointment, we were fully expecting to have the family member go through one of two possible procedures that day but after a thorough examination when pictures were taken with my own phone, Dr. Ghodsian decided neither procedure was going to help and that something else was going on. I know plenty of doctors out there who would just tell us they did as we asked and then charge us the full amount that was quoted us. Not Dr. Ghodsian. He was caring, professional, and truly what you hope a doctor would be. He explained each possible scenario and assured me that if this were his family member, he would not recommend the procedure. He wanted to help us and wanted us to send in more info/pictures to further confirm his diagnosis. As we came out, we were given detailed instructions on what the family member needed to avoid eating and doing to help the family member feel better. We were also instructed to provide more information for the doctor to follow up with. We sent in the pictures as asked and received a reply within 24 hours with recommendations and referral. I Made an appointment for the same day and he identified an abnormally large abscess which he had drained for me the same night in the hospital. Let me first start by saying 5 stars isn't even enough for this facility and the work they do. I was having extreme hemorrhoid pain and after seeing my primary Dr I was told "it is what it is" which really isn't helpful when you're looking for some relief. After researching Dr Ghodsian i was SO HAPPY I went to see him and had the best experience. Dr Ghodsian was very profesional, had excellent bed side manner, but more importantly made the environment so comfortable considering how awkward and embarrassing this situation can be when you're getting your booty and everything inside looked at. He made sure I was comfortable at all times and assured me he could help me and let me just say I'm so grateful for the work he's done. Everything feels and looks completely brand new! The before and after pictures are a true testament to how good his work is and why he is the best Doctor. The removal process was fast and honestly pretty painless because he checked in with me every few mins to ensure I was good. He also took the time to call and check in with me when I was home to see how I was doing and was even quick in returning phone calls when I had questions. I've worked in health care for 10 years and have never seen a Dr take this much time to check in with patients and make sure they're recovering well. Most Doctors make you wait a long time before being seen after surgery which is nerve wrecking because you really don't know if things are healing the way they should but Dr Ghodsian made sure I was seen right away and his schedule was always accommodating. He was very thorough with each visit after surgery and made sure he really looked at everything and did not rush any visit because he wanted to ensure I was healing properly which I really appreciate as a patient. Incredible results! Amazing Doctor! I have been suffering from hemorrhoid for my entire adult life. I had a surgery done many years ago, and condition came back almost immediately, and I was afraid to get another surgery done because my previous experience was very unpleasant. Condition gotten so bad in recent days that I had to have the surgery done or I won't be able to have normal day to day activities. Going thru my typical HMO network was not going to work because I had an oversee trip coming up in 3 week, and also, I was unsure if I can get a quality surgery done thru HMO. I researched thru Google and Yelp, and I found Dr Maziar Ghodsian, and I've decided that out of pocket surgery was my best option. I knew that my condition was very very bad, so I wasn't sure if the surgery will be successful, and I will be able to travel in 3 week. First 3 days after surgery was difficult. Pain was minimal, but I had a trouble having a bowel movement. I've called Dr's office a couple time, and they were very helpful. Within 5 days, I stop taking any pain medication. Incredible! Pain was almost non existent after that. 2 1/2 week after the surgery, I was on 11 days long oversea trip. During the trip, I was very active, and I hiked for up 10 miles some days, I was on the plane up to 12 hours at time. Overall cost was less than what I had expected, and all my visits (pre & post surgery) had been very pleasant. Despite the fact that he couldn't perform the recommended surgery since my insurance does not cover the hospital stay (which in my case he thought might be necessary) I was surprised that he called me a few days later to follow up, to see how I am doing and to urge me to go and see a specialist within my network. Where to even start, I found Dr. Ghodsian randomly because my regular proctologist wasn't available for six weeks. I have been suffering with hemorrhoids for years. Having about 3 ligation procedures and 5 thrombosed removals. I told Dr. Ghodsian about how the clots had been removed before and he was blown away by how the procedures were done. He assured me would be doing it differently and i would see better results. I'm 3 weeks into healing of my hemroidectomy and i could not be happier with the results. As odd as it is to say, the work he did has left the area looking beautiful. I feel so blessed to have met Dr. Ghodsian, i am now looking into going back to him to remove the skin tags that were left behind by the other 'clot removal' procedures i had under my other proctologist. I feel like i could cry to think that I'm on a path to having my whole area look like it did before these issues started to arise. He has legit given me hope to get a very important part of my intimacy back. After reading all the 5 star reviews on Yelp, I went to see Dr. Ghodsian because I was having MAJOR pain from hemorrhoids as well as seeping a combination of clear fluid/blood from the hemorrhoids. After taking pictures and examining me, he informed me that I had a serious case, which required immediate surgery at a hospital. When I asked if he could treat me or perform the surgery in his clinic, he said no because his clinic was not suitable for the type of surgery I would need and advised that I contact my health insurance company for an emergency operation at a hospital where I might have to spend 1 or 2 nights afterwards. He emphasized that this was a serious matter so I should get on it right away and I have to admit that I was extremely concerned for my health. He provided me with a brief explanation letter describing my hemorrhoids as "Grade IV, necrotic/ischemic, thrombosed, prolapsing, hemorrhoid, with a thrombosed external hemorrhoid, that need to be surgically removed emergently" which I could give to my insurance company, Kaiser Permanente. After I went home, I immediately called my insurance company and was able to get an appointment to visit the emergency room at Kaiser Permanente Hospital the next day. After the emergency room doctor examined me, I was informed that my condition was not that serious and I should go home and let it heal. When I mentioned that Dr. Ghodsian described my hemorrhoids as "Grade IV, necrotic/ischemic" which required immediate surgery, the emergency room doctor disagreed and said it wasn't that serious. However, after I kept insisting that I be treated or operated right away, he was caring enough to ask another doctor, who specialized in hemorrhoids, to exam me and he came to the same conclusion. They both insisted that an operation was not necessary and all I needed to do was to apply some over the counter hydrocortisone and take some antibiotics for several days. They assured me that I would be fine but that if it got worse, they instructed me to come back to the hospital. After several days of applying hydrocortisone and taking antibiotics, both the seeping of fluid/blood and pain were mostly gone and as of today, over 1 month later, my hemorrhoids are gone and I am back to normal. I was happy until I recently received a bill from Kaiser Permanente for over $1,200 for the emergency room visit and a follow up doctor's visit the following week. As a result, I am very disappointed and unhappy with Dr. Ghodsian, knowing that because of his "worse than it was" diagnosis, I was extremely worried for my health for 24 hours and made unnecessary visits to the emergency room and follow up doctor's office, which cost me over $1,200 out of pocket when all it took were some antibiotics and over the counter hydrocortisone in the first place. read more

Why this place is only 4 1/2 stars is beyond me. I was in the ER the night before I came to him. I will not speak bad of that ER but Dr Maz did his job diligently. He LISTENED to me about my pain. I was in so much pain that I almost passed out in his waiting room but he sprinted from behind his receptionist area to me ASAP and made me as comfortable as possible with ice packs and water and checking with me every minute to make sure I was fine after that episode. Then the surgery. What surgery? I went to sleep I woke up, no more pain as he said and I get to take a bunch of baths for a week! REACHING OUT TO THOSE WHO MAY HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT NOT SURE WHAT TO DO!!! Writing review to reach out to those who may be dealing with a similar issue and may not have any references for guidance. ISSUE Found myself in a daily battle against a physical ailment that came upon subtly/slowly over many years & continued getting worse until I couldn't stand the constant battle anymore. Searching the internet, I was blessed to find Dr. Ghodsian & The Proctology Institute. Dr. & Staff are top notch highly experienced licensed professionals that spent the time, attention & care with me to figure out what was wrong, how to address the issue & then they fixed the issue. SYMPTOMS 2009 I began noticing some bleeding after bowel movements. Frequency = appr half the time after bowel movements, but continued to increase in frequency & quantity. Eventually noticed some leakage was visible on my boxers, even while I had no bowel movements (although, it greatly increased after bowel movements). These 2 issues persisted & gradually worsened over the years until 2016; issues increased to the point that I found myself in the restroom throughout the day (hourly & sometimes every 30 minutes depending on how long I could stand waiting before cleaning myself). As I mentioned, very encumbering and embarrassing as I could only wear certain types of pants and colors because it would show through even jeans. This became a major burden on me & hindered my desire to go anywhere as it was always on my mind & always nagging at my body. I found The Proctology Institute & Dr. online w/ good reviews. DIAGNOSIS Dr. identified the issue but was uncertain of the root cause. Further testing was needed as Dr. had not seen this exact issue before. The initial examination left Dr. thinking that the primary issue was not hemorrhoids (although, it was a small portion of the problem) & he was unsure if it was a large cyst or polyp or what that would mean if it was. Hence, a colonoscopy. The following examination Dr. concluded that it was not a cyst/polyp, but symptoms were due to a part of my body that I had essentially "pushed" out over so many years by using excessive force during bowel movements. So, I literally had a part of my body that was sticking out of me and was causing all of the symptoms; symptoms that definitely lowered my standard of living and weighed heavily on my mind as well as my body. TREATMENT The plan was to surgically remove the appendage. In the back of my mind, throughout the last years of dealing with this, I knew it would result in surgically removing the appendage... or at least I hoped it could be done that way because I couldn't logically think of any other alternative to stopping the problem. We scheduled an appointment for the outpatient surgery. SURGERY / RECOVERY The surgery is similar to procedures of surgically removing hemorrhoids. It took a 2-3 hours from the time I entered the outpatient surgery center to the time I left. Immediately after the surgery, I was groggy but felt ok overall... of course, naturally discomfort in the area that was worked on and some pain when moving which is all normal. NOTE ON RECOVERY: Since not a typical hemorrhoid removal surgery, you want to take 2 weeks for full recovery. Start a temporary disability claim w/ your HR Dept. if needed as this is considered a "major" procedure w/ 2 wk recovery time. OUTCOME / RESULT After full recovery and Dr. Ghodsian's confirmation via follow up exams that I had recovered well... I had the most amazing results possible. I had hoped for relief for years and began to feel as though my standard of living was extremely negatively affected and began to have feelings of hopelessness that caused me to not want to hang out or do things with my own kids and close family / friends because the problems / symptoms consumed all of my days & nights and so much of my mind & body that I was heading towards "shut-down mode" overall. After about two & a half weeks, I was fully recovered and all prior symptoms were gone. I felt like a normal person again who didn't have to be conscious every second of the day that something may be showing through my pants or that I was uncomfortable in my own clothes whether sitting or standing or anything in between regardless if I was out and about or sitting on my own couch at home. My standard of living was greatly improved with the help of Dr. Ghodsian and Staff at The Proctology Institute. I cannot thank them enough for the care they provided me and the change they made in my life. Dr. Ghodsian not only provided me with relief of symptoms, but he addressed the root cause of the problem thereby restoring full function of my body in this regard. Thank you again to Dr. Ghodsian and Staff for the patience, understanding, time, care and overall good nature that they provided me as their patient. Doctor and staff are very professional and friendly! He discovered a condition that I had but was unaware of. 1 point off was because 1) his office was affiliated with only 2 insurance companies. I had Cigna which is one of them, but also needed a service that required a surgery, which his surgery centers are not affiliated with. 2) My result came back positive but needed 1 month + 2 times calling in to get the result.... :( (but the Doctor did contact me directly and explained what that meant) Update: Dr. Ghoshian personally called to apologize for what happened shortly after the review and even offered me a free check up (which wasn't much and I didn't use it) if I was out of insurance by then. This action speaks volume for his practice. It means he's both a good Dr. and attentive business man who cares about his business, so you can feel safe going here. I was suffering from painful bleeding hemorrhoids and swelling after a botched hemorrhoidectomy. I went to Dr. Ghodsian for a persistent hemorrhoid. He was a true professional and his office staff was extremely helpful and nice. He gave me some options, one of which was surgery as he said it would come back in the future and better to have it removed. Saw him as I was in the OR Room before the procedure and we were kidding around but his "bedside' manner was extremely caring and informational. After the surgery I had no residual healing problems and the couple of times I called his office they were great. They also had taken care of a couple prescriptions upfront in case I needed them. I just went for my followup yesterday, and all is good and healed already. It's rare to have such a good experience with a new doctor I hadn't known before...good guy..great doctor. read more

Woke up one morning with incredible pain. After calling my insurance and calling around to their in network reccos I wasn't able to see anyone for 3 months. Did some research of my own and stumbled across Dr. Maziar Ghodsian. I called and was able to see the doctor within the hour. When I arrived they gave me the option of waiting to see if my issue would go away on its own or to go into a procedure right then and there over their lunch break. The doctor was professional and took his time to make sure I was hydrated, had a quick snack, and thoroughly numbed before proceeding. Procedure was quick and successful. They talked me through the healing process, had me ordering the ointment I needed on amazon, and sent me the pharmacist next door for my pain medication. Overall I was surprised and how quickly he had resolved my issue. Spent the next month doing weekly check up's to ensure I was healing correctly. Happy to report I'm 100% again and zero issues. My only complaint is I wish they accepted my insurance bc it was definitely an expensive out of pocket procedure. However to have it done quickly and correctly with peace of mind truly is priceless. read more

I went to Dr. Maz Ghodsian in the most pain I've ever been in, on my life! He Diagnosed me with a major fissure around my rectum. He was very comforting and assured me I would feel 50% less pain come Monday this was on a Friday. He was right! I used compounded suppositories that worked like magic. Today we did a colonoscopy I would definitely recommend this doctor he is the best at what he does. I'm so glad I found him when I did. He's a lifesaver! read more

Soooo a week before I am supposed to get on a flight to Japan, I get this wonderful external hemorrhoid. I have had them in the past so first tried treating it with over-the-counter stuff and even got steroid creme. However, a day later it got worse. So I decided to nip this in the bud and go see a specialist. This was the only place with a 5-star rating, so I gave it a shot. I scheduled an appointment for the next day. Upon arrival, you just need to fill out the standard paperwork which takes about ten minutes. During the consultation, it became clear very quickly that there needed to be an excision to remove the blood clots (3 of them). Now I am not an easy patient; I get extremely anxious (due to traumatizing experiences in the past). But boy does Dr Maz know how to reassure someone. He talked me through the whole thing and kept a close eye on my responses. After the procedure was over, I did almost pass out so they monitored me afterwards as well until I was stable enough to go home. Nonetheless, the whole ordeal brought instant relief and I was happy that I went through it. The day after the procedure, he gave me a call as well to follow up on me. A week later (today), I had my check-up and he could not even find the cut anymore. It had healed almost completely with no scarring whatsoever.
