This sorry excuse for a "physician" misdiagnosed me for a period of two years, saw me once a month for needless treatments just to bill my insurance, and when I finally was correctly diagnosed by an actual colorectal surgeon, he refused to admit he was wrong. If this HACK diagnosed me correctly two years ago, I wouldn't have needed invasive surgery that I am still recovering from 2 months later. His dereliction of duty was truly devastating. If you want your insurance to be billed needlessly, and for your medical issues to never be resolved, then this is the doctor for you. But if you actually value your health, go to literally anybody else. Also, he is NOT a proctologist, he barely even qualifies as a colorectal. And if you are looking for a real colorectal surgeon who will actually heal you, Dr. Moshe Barnajian is a literal miracle worker. I had an ishiorectal abscess that was at first diagnosed as a hemoroid by my Primary Care Provider, but when it was not getting better, I went to see Dr Phillip Fleshner, MD. I couldn't sit--too painful. painful every time my muscles in that area contracted. He quickly diagnosed me with the correct diagnosis, and he was able to accommodate me to get a surgery. His office is busy, he sees a lot of patients, but he is efficient and proficient. Dr Fleshner is a world class surgeon. I can totally understand why some might be put off by his short bedside manner, but unlike my former surgeon (it took 3 months to get an appt!), I believe Dr Fleshner tries to accommodate everyone within a reasonable amount of time. In fact, more than reasonable. I've been able to book appointments the same week. I also think there are certain hours of the day where he can be more relaxed and take more time with a patient (very late afternoon it seems). He will also call you to answer any questions you might have, saving you time and effort in getting to an appointment. I've been hospitalized more than once and I appreciate him making rounds like clockwork. The only thing is, it's always so early in the morning and I always forget to ask questions I would like answered! But that's my bad for not being prepared the night before. Dr F is also a funny guy with a good sense of humor. Check out the front of the receptionist's desk when you enter the backroom for an exam. It's lined with gag gifts pertaining to the function of the colon. It's not fun being chronically sick all the time, but laughter can be good medicine. read more

Postpartum and oblivious to all the ailments that come with giving birth, Dr. F was recommended after I had immense pain in the bathroom. Dr. F discovered three hemorrhoids right next to my perennial stitches and sympathized with the pain. He put me at ease and told me three shots would shrink them and to load up on fiber, fruits and veggies and that I could bathe even though I was only two weeks postpartum. After seeing him the first time post shot, I had significantly less pain and dread going to the bathroom. After the second time, I feel like I'm almost back to my pre-birth bathroom self. I most strongly suggest that you never use Philip Fleshner. He is a hack who runs a cattle car operation. I went to him for bleeding hemorrhoids. My previous proctologist, Dr. Sokol who retired, used to spend about 10 minutes with me, examining my hemorrhoids and giving several injections that stopped the bleeding for 3 to 6 months. In contrast, Fleshner spent literally less than 2 minutes with me, no examination, gave one shot and, after 4 days, my hemorrhoids were bleeding more intensely than before I saw him. What's more, he had too many patients waiting to keep appropriate social distancing and kept me waiting for an hour past the appointment time. WARNING: DR. FLESHNER DOES NOT WEAR A MASK DURING APPOINTMENTS 1. MISLED INTO MAKING A CONSULTATION APPOINTMENT I had a horrible experience with Dr. Fleshner. I was referred to his office by my gastroenterologist, so I called to make an appointment. They initially mentioned that they were out of network for my insurance and that the consultation would cost $250. I told them if that was the case I would not be making the appointment at which point they let me know that I should just come in and talk to billing, perhaps they could figure something out for me as far as reimbursement. Of course, this was not the case. I was misled into making this appointment with a false pretense of some sort of reimbursement that would have never been possible. 2. SURGEON DIDN'T WEAR MASK DURING CONSULTATION. Dr. Fleshner walked into the small examination room with his mask off of his nose and mouth, worn around his chin. He immediately asked, "shaking hands or no?" with his hand outstretched. I declined. He then patted me on the shoulder--all of which was shockingly disrespectful and inappropriate. I have a 5 month old baby at home and consider myself high-risk for COVID because of this. I was completely gobsmacked by his cavalier attitude toward the pandemic...shocking behavior from a medical professional. 3. SHOCKING TREATMENT WHEN I TRIED TO COMPLAIN At first I refused to pay as I felt completely misled and disrespected by the experience. I called the office to complain. The woman, Karen, who works at the front desk was incredibly defensive when I told her what happened to me. This could have all been solved with a heartfelt apology and a promise to do better. God forbid they drop the $250 charge given all of my trouble! Instead, she fought me tooth and nail on every detail of what happened, refusing to admit that she's seen Dr. Fleshner in the practice, interacting with patients, without his mask. It seems *highly* unlikely that I was his only consultation where he decided to not wear his mask, to ask me to shake hands, etc. I can only assume he does this with other patients. Then, UNSOLICITED, Karen mentions that "everyone who got sick in our office got sick from home, not from Dr. Fleshner"--I couldn't believe it. She mentioned it was "back in April" but I was truly shocked at her inability to understand how incredibly unprofessional and dangerous his behavior was. And in the end, no apology, and I was still charged the $250. When I mentioned I would be contacting the authorities and writing a negative review to warn others, Karen replied: "Can't wait!". I never, ever complain about this kind of thing--it was all just such a series of indignities that I feel compelled to warn other prospective patients. read more

Dr. Fleshner evaluated me on my first visit with him as having stage 4 hemorrhoids with a need to operate sooner than later. Having been frightened about the stories of recovery and associated pain with this type of procedure I finally had to deal with it. Dr. Fleshner was "first class" in every way. Gave me shots when he was too busy that caused terrible pelvic and urinary spasms and horrible bleeding for two weeks. A lady with an accent in his office said it's nothing and takes seven to ten days to work. I have ms, Parkinson's and cancer and the shots were too strong and the iffuce did not suggest I should be evaluated. I am in horrible pain and spasm ever since and have seen another surgeon. He said I was so inflaimed that was the reason I could not urinate and am bleeding a urologist said the same. I am in pain pills for the first time and sits baths and creams. Dr Fleishner never gave me the courtesy to call me back all week or to see me. It is a month now and I'm permanently nerve damaged.am still bleeding and going to a younger more thorough colorectal surgeon that does not give me permanent pelvic and bladder spasms and bleeding from improper treatment and follow up. read more

This doctor is absurdly expensive and presumptuous in a dangerous way that doesn't serve the best interests of new patients. As a heads up, he was out of network with my insurance and the office required me to bill for my own reimbursement. With barely an explanation, in the middle of an initial exam, he was telling me, not asking me, he was going to give me an injection! What a way to make a new patient feel comfortable. The shameless billing/intake staff matter of factly informed me that the initial exam was an additional $175 for which I would need to front costs, of course, after it was already performed. When I asked Fleshner in the middle of the visit what my options were billing-wise, he shrugged off the question, saying he didn't know anything about that and only focused on what was "important." The $175 was of course on top of an initially quoted $350 out of pocket consultation fee, and would have been in addition to whatever a course of injections might have cost. This was "generously" lowered to $250 after I balked at the price because of my referring doctor. Only after I balked. Weak handshake. Felt like he was immediately rushing me out as opposed to walking me through my situation and options. Less than warm reception staff. The "make America great again" Trump bobble head behind the desk was cherry on top. Never again. read more

He immediately made sure I was taken in to surgery and made sure everything was prepared the same day. Ok first of all it is hard to give a 5 star review to a doctor who is a King's fan!! :) sorry I am a Detroit Red Wing fan and we kept arguing about our teams back and forth for a while. And he is from Montreal originally come on.....................ok ok now that I got the super important things out of the way let me get to the not so important details to why this doctor deserves 10 stars!! yes even as a King's fan lol Dr. Fleshner simply saved my wife's life! He is a master at his craft (do they even say that about surgeons) He is a rockstar for sure! The guy made this 2 part surgery like a walk in the park, I mean come on, you go through so much with such a big surgery, but when the surgeon makes you feel so calm and worry free while he is doing his thing................priceless. His entire team is unbelievable. I can't believe I read a bad review about him seriously. He was highly recommended by 3 doctors and by 2 of our friends who never met him but had some procedures done at Cedars not by him. Yes we did spend a lot of time at the hospital which is normal with such a complicated surgery, but he made that stay so pleasant. We could not wait to see him every morning at 5 am seriously, if you can imagine that. My wife is a negative person in life, she freaks out about a splinter............so when you have a surgeon who not only performs a surgery like a champ and also has people's skills.............that is a jackpot!!! Dr Fleshner is a genius and one of the most skilled surgeons there ever was! I've been a patient of his for over 10 years! He does everything he possibly can to make you feel comfortable and at ease in every situation even holding my hand before my anesthesia kicked in prior to one of my surgeries. He has gone above and beyond to help find solutions for my unique situation. We have been through many many surgeries together and I wouldn't trust anyone but him! He saved my life! His staff is incredible and ALL the same the entire time I've been his patient! That should tell you something! I'm not sure if the doctor also is a healer, but I was hospitalized and saw another physician for this issue. The doctor provided an in office treatment, that has provided much relief. It's been one treatment, and I need a few more but if the other reviewers are to be believed, then I'm good to go. I did crack a joke, when asked about how I was doing great. I said oh wonderful. The front desk woman may seem a little intimidating. BUT she is so sweet and helpful. Very informative and clarified a lot of insurance and policy questions I had. Once inside the exam room, the nurse asked some questions and I, having never been to a colon doctor, had problems answering a few of the questions. Dr. Fleshner- At first I thought he was short and rushing...BUT I realized he was just shy. He answered all my questions. He was very knowledgable. Surgeon scheduler was nice. I do wish that she gave me a little more info. prior to my procedure; such as parking at the Surgical center on Wilshire was $14 max and they validate for up to 2 hours. And it would have been very helpful to know that I had to pay my 10% co-pay for the facility on the day of the surgery (I didn't bring my credit cards). But awesome is she gave me an amazing prescription to the prep with coupon. Colonoscopy day I was flustered because of the Surgical Facility run around. But it worked out. I requested not to be put on sedation. I was VERY happy that Dr. Fleshner did not force me to be sedated. During the procedure he was very informative and was fun to talk to. I was comfortable. And since I was lucid and awake I was very very pleased that he made sure I was not hurting as the camera worked it's way into and out of my bowel. He made this uncomfortable procedure comfortable. Definitely a doctor I trust and feel comfortable with. I also agree that he makes joke and is a funny guy once he gets acquainted with you. He has good bedside manners and values privacy. Terrible bedside manner. Dr. Fleshner was 40 minutes late to my 9 am appointment; during the exam he was very rough and dismissive and I left feeling physically violated. Went to another doctor who told me I'd been misdiagnosed. When Dr. Fleshner's office sent me a bill for $40, I called the office and told them I wouldn't pay for those reasons and Karen the office manager told me she was sending me to collections. For $40. If it weren't for her attitude, I would have dropped the issue and moved on, but that interaction was just the last straw. Patients deserve better. Do yourself a favor and find a caring doctor (and medical practice). read more

Dr. Fleshner performed my initial ileostomy bowel resection (took 2 feet of damaged and swollen small and large bowel), as well as the follow-up reverse ileostomy (reconnected them back, 4 months later which eliminated the need for a colostomy bag from the 1st procedure). Firstly, let me say that anyone that passes judgement on any surgeon should do so where it counts - Quality of care, success, and recovery. At a time, where people are criticizing presidents for things that have no impact on the policy they pursue which in the end is what affects you, so too is it dumb to ding a doctor for his personality, or some receptionist they don't like. Dr. Fleshner is the finest bowel surgeon there is, and if you have to go through a procedure of this type, there is no-one with whom you stand a better chance than with him. Dr Fleshner is amazing at what he does. Very thorough, takes time to explain things until fully understood. He has a true passion for what he does and it shows with his level of care for his patients. Would recommend him to ANYONE. I have had 2 surgeries with Dr Fleshner and even though the surgeries are awkward and no fun he was a fantastic surgeon. I had no issues with his work. His bedside manner is amazing. Office staff is great. Appointments are quick! We come from 3.5 hours away and usually arrive early and they always see us right away! We are usually out of there before the actual appointment time. I'm suffer from Crohns/Colitis and can't thank Dr Fleshner & his team enough for getting me fixed up after a long stint with a perianal abscess/Fistula/total nightmare!! I had seen another Dr over in Glendale before seeing Dr. Fleshner. He ended up fixing someone else's work that was not done right in the first place, due to this being such a specialized procedure I'm guessing.. I was not healing whilst under care of old Dr and in a lot of pain, then once he got it under control, I was healed up and my fistula was closed within the year. Without a doubt in my mind ( I'm also a total fearful patient too) I would trust him always in the future if any complications ever arose again. Let's hope not though! read more

Dr. Fleshner did my ileoanal anastamosis. Eight years later, I'm doing great (thank God). I called him a week ago to ask him if I could take a medicine another doctor prescribed. He called back right away, gave me the information I needed, and said, "Long time no see!" I had a bad experience with Dr. Fleshner. I went to him for a second opinion, as the first Dr .I visited said I needed hemorrhoid surgery. Dr. Fleshner said I did not require surgery and for 9 miserable months I committed to his bogus treatment with his encouragement.He seemed to thrive on watching me make appointment after appointment.Finally went back to original Dr., had surgery and it has been 1 year with no problems. Dr. Fleshners' treatment had no effect on my hemorrhoid problem whatsoever.Shame on him that I had to suffer for no reason I can think of other than his billing. read more
