Had the displeasure of having to deal with MHB when closing on our house. Our realtor chose them and I trust(ed) our realtor to get it right. He unfortunately didn't. Closing on a house took over an hour longer than it should have. This was because the paperwork they wrote up was incorrect... not once, but twice. Thanks for wasting our time on a workday. They first excluded my wife entirely from our home's title. Took 30 min to revise. When they came back with the revised paperwork, we noticed that her name was spelled incorrectly. My wife is an immigrant and has a uniquely spelled name. 30 minutes later, they came back with revised paperwork again. I thought the issue was settled and we were good to go. However, once we received the recorded deed, her name was spelled incorrectly! I'm unsure if their back office folks handling paperwork are just plain incompetent or racially ignorant/insensitive due to my wife's foreign background. My realtor and I contacted Ryan over a month ago to let him know about the error and that it needs to be fixed. I am yet to see a reply to our emails. From our experience, we definitely feel that MHB is sloppy at best. Based on the mess they created for us, I'd suggest you avoid MHB at all cost. If you have name that is spelled uniquely and decide to work with them, God help you. read more

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. My brother and I were trying to sell our parents' house (both of whom are deceased) and the buyers selected this company. We were informed on a Friday that there was a "problem" with the deed to my parents' house and we wouldn't be able to go to settlement on the following Monday. We were frustrated to find this information out at the last minute. That was just the start. This company continually told us that we needed to probate the Will eventhough my parents had a trust. After some back and forth, we filled an application with the Fairfax County probate department. I finally heard from someone in probate yesterday and was informed that the title company was WRONG and we do not need to do anything with the Will. We have now lost our buyers and have to figure out plan B. Not to mention I am still having to pay a mortgage and utility bills for house which should have gone to settlement a month ago. We are out a total of $10,000 due to their mistake. Avoid this company at all cost. read more

Following the advice of our realtor we used MBH to close on our home purchase more than a year ago. Big mistake. We recently refinanced and our new settlement company told us that MBH had done a very bad job of making sure the paperwork from the previous owners was complete. Ryan is rude and arrogant. In addition, his staff is incompetent. I would never recommend this company to anyone. They completely screwed up the payment of my county taxes and paid them twice even though my mortgage company paid them over 3 weeks before closing. Then they had the nerve to blame the title and settlement company I used even though they were in charge with dispersement of funds. Now,They refuse to give me the money back until the county pays them back. What a horrible experience. Watch out for them they are crooks. read more

I've used MBH offices many times in the past, always with excellent service. This was my first experience with the office in Old Town and it will be my last. The processor that handled my transaction was incompetent and caused my client to lose $800 due to her lack of following up with outside involved parties. She then accepted no responsibility and actually argued with me and it was handled poorly all the way around. The office lacks customer service skills and there is no sense of personal responsibility. I would steer clear - there are too many other options to choose from. read more

This is my second experience with MBH. The first time I was willing to assume that it was a fluke that things did not go well. This time is proof it is not a fluke. Even though they knew the seller was leaving the country, they refused to prepare the deed until he was gone. Then they cavalierly said the deed had to be signed and notarized in person although he had left a power of attorney for all related matters. If they had gotten their act together before he left this could have all been avoided. Now he will have to pay for a RT plane ticket just to come and sign the deed! The staff are inconsiderate and unconcerned about customer service because they know they have pretty much a monopoly on settlements in Alexandria. For the next deal, I will absolutely find anyone else. Be warned! read more

They provided tea/coffee/cookies (I know that doesn't have much to do with the actual process, but it was a nice touch), and everyone we encountered was lovely. Very poor customer service. I've done three different closings with 3 companies in NOVA. I requested a copy of a document from each closing from all 3 companies. MBH was the only one that didn't provide the document within about 10 minutes. For MBH, I had no reply after a day. I called again the next morning, and was told that they had my document, but weren't sure if they'd get around to emailing it that day. I also called the brach manger, but received no reply. This appears to be a poorly run organization that lacks accountability. When compared to other services in this area, there is no reason to do business with MBH. read more

People will tell you that there are few things as stressful as buying and selling a home and for the most part, they're correct. Unless your transaction is handled by MBH. There's a reason why we have used MBH for 3 closings now for our homes in Northern Virginia: careful explanations, thoughtful pre/post closing communications and more. Our in-person experience was enjoyable thanks to the experienced staff and attorneys.
