I experienced constant flooding and sewage leaking from the kitchen sinks (yep, 2 sinks), giant sized insects invading our space, decaying floor boards from water damage, 3 years of uninterrupted mold and mildew, the need for a dehumidifier requiring 4 buckets of water to be dumped daily, and the last stray was a bathroom ceiling leaks flooding the unit requiring a 1 month stay in the hotel paid for by my insurance and I still had to pay the rent for my unit. During those 3 years, I suffered terribly from respiratory problems for the first time in my life. No empathy shown by the leasing agent or landlord for the major and myriad inconveniences. Upon returning to the unit in addition to the floor repairs they used substandard contractors to paint the walls. During my stay at the hotel (on my insurance's dime, mind you despite paying the full month's rent DURING it's renovation) I was not notified that the walls would be painted until AFTER the work was done, nor was my artwork removed from the walls prior to painting. The substandard painters merely painted around my artwork. Essentially their substandard painting contractors sealed the damage free adhesive to the walls with the paint making the artwork impossible to remove without damaging the wall. Moreover, the substandard contractors also painted over the back door sealing it shut. Upon move-out, the property management company wanted to penalize me for the damage caused by their own substandard painters shoddy work, since there're still holding on to my security deposit. The management is not familiar with more modern ways to verify employment and income (such as third party service) and insisted on unredacted pay stubs - which is much less secure. The interaction as we went back and forth was rude and reminded me of scammers trying to get one to divulge information urgently (because so many people are interested in the apartment!) at the cost of better judgement. In trying to get more information from me they cited their "policies" but being unable to articulate why their policy insists on having the information I didn't want to share (like my pre-tax deductions) This conversation was not with some mid-level employee but what seemed to be the owner. I should hope he could articulate the reasoning behind his own policy! To me, this company clearly orients themselves to customer service of property owners, not renters. As soon as I planned to sell my investment property and was no longer a revenue source for them, the support and willingness to engage with me disappeared. This has created numerous headaches as I plan to sell my rental property. 1) The company accepted a tenant-cleaned property, but still told me they would be charging the tenant for a move-out cleaning. When the tenant complained about the withheld deposit - the company refuses to acknowledge that they told me *in writing* that the $690 cleaning would be charged to the deposit. Now I owe the tenant another $690. 2) The company mailed the keys and garage door openers to my realtor. The package is lost and was not insured by the company. Now they simply suggest filing a "missing package" request and are not willing to accept responsibility for replacing the items that I entrusted to them. 3) Besides from one phone call, all communication is over email, which is creating delays in resolving these issues, leading the former tenant to threaten legal action against me. The company is not taking ownership of any of the issues that were caused by their miscommunication or negligence. Be careful!

Twice our property listing was taken down before a lease was signed resulting in at least a month of lost rent. We had maintenance done that was done poorly. Two rooms in the house were painted (poorly: outlets had paint on them). We were not compensated, nor were the original colors restored. The company couldn't determine which tenants painted so inspections were not great. We, the owners, were charged for the last move out inspection. The house was not winterized (outside water not shut off), and it does not look like the hvac filter had ever been changed. The most unsettling part was that a 2 foot section of the roof cap was on the porch when we moved back in. The neighbors said the tenants before the last tenants reported the damage. Pearson said it was not reported. Even if it wasn't reported the house should have gone through two inspections with a piece of the roof on the front porch. Insurance probably would have covered the damage if it was reported. We have been waiting over two months for our account to be closed out and remaining funds to be returned. I don't know if change in personnel or lack of interest in residential proper management lead to our declining experience, but by the end we felt the company didn't care about our property or our experience.

BMG failed to perform even the most basic due diligence and allowed someone to occupy my property without verifying their qualifications. Their negligence has cost me tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees and damages as I've tried to remove this tenant. Communication was consistently poor, critical information was withheld, and their handling of my property was completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for responsible, competent property management.

BMG did not take ownership and ignored that the tenant had a 550 credit score! (which I found out too later). I would never recommend this company to anyone. The only shinning star was my property manager Kristin who did everything she could to convey information and help get the tenant out. She put in a lot of work after hours. If not for her I would give BMG zero stars.

I found that. The application process was seamless. I was approved quickly and the transition was smooth. I had my keys and access to the unit quickly. The last few years have been amazing. Whenever anything was broken and we submitted a maintenance request, it was addressed quickly. Nothing remained broken for long. John even came over and replaced the batteries on the smoke detector when I couldn't figure out which one was low and the beeping wouldn't stop. Our microwave broke and I messaged John and it was replaced within a few days. In my experience Scout Properties is a great property management company. They are reliable, responsive, nice human beings. It was a pleasure to have our home manager by this company. John's the best!

I'm not sure Victor ever really knew who we were and I can't be sure he ever visited the apartment before things really went to crap. He completely missed a major toilet leak--even after the tenant moved out--which left us with a cumulative $5,773.14 water bill. Then Scout didn't handle the tenant's voucher renewal properly, with no warning to us, which made the tenant move out early and cost us rental income. Even worse, we've now been stuck for several months without a tenant and have had to cover all the turnover costs ourselves. Despite that, Scout still charged their full management fees while barely responding to us. All of a sudden, Scout dropped us as clients (including our neighbors who were clients also), kept the fees, and stopped returning calls. Our next‑door neighbors had the same experience -- and told us their tenant was even offered an apartment at another property managed by Scout. Everything started fine but turned into one expensive, stressful mess. Don't hire Scout Properties unless you want poor communication, big bills, and months of lost rent.
