Upon meeting Scott, he was very respectful of my home and very responsive getting back to me. I added 2 new windows to my home, and built a closet in a hallway. Both of these required me to special order windows and doors from Home Depot. It took nearly 6 weeks for the windows and doors to arrive, but during that time Scott was reaching out to me almost weekly just to check in and see if there were any updates. When it came time to do the work, Scott was prompt and very respectful of my home. He made sure everything was in order before working, and genuinely cared about the work he was performing. He cleaned up when the work was complete and left no trace that he was even here. As to the actual work itself, Scott went above and beyond. As typical with home improvement projects, things are never just black and white. We ran into a few hiccups when opening up the walls, but he found some clever solutions and made everything fit. The work itself is incredible. We are so happy with our new windows and doors - you wouldn't even know they were done after the fact. You'd think they came with the house when it was built! Rick informed me up-front that he would not be the cheapest option, but that I would be paying for top-notch work. For this reason, I went with AvidPro, despite their being the 2nd most expensive of four quotes. The job was approximately 2000 sq ft, half refinish of existing, and the other half new installation and finishing. We were under a tight timeline to move in, and Rick's crew worked some weekends to hit our deadline. We really appreciated this, and the rush may have contributed to some of the issues. However, I raised many of them early on. Yes, I am a real stickler for details, but for the price, I found the following unacceptable: * visible sanding swirl marks in numerous locations * surface flatness issues * dust in finish * very visible transition of sealer & finish application in front of refrigerator (fridge slid out to finish underneath) * failure to edge-sand around the kitchen island, on the incorrect assumption that there would be a shoe-molding * drips on stairs * significant gaps have opened up in new flooring in an area that receives direct sunlight * deviations from agreed-upon approach to specific details (finish sheen, under-cutting of existing trim, stair nose, etc.) When I raised these issues, Rick was very willing to discuss but was adamant that his work was industry-standard. However, I installed and finished flooring myself on three separate occasions in our last house, and none of these issues was present. I have also seen the results of numerous professional flooring projects in my parents' houses over the years, and almost all of them demonstrated better fit and finish than my experience with AvidPro. Rick did offer to re-work some of the issues, but unfortunately a number of them could not be corrected in time for us to move in, so we opted to live with them.

Working with Don and his crew at Raines Constructions Services was a good experience. I got three…read morebids for my pole barn project. Don's bid was competitive, and his communication was much better than the other contractors. I had a design with floorplans, but there was a lot of details that had to be worked out. Don was easy to work with and provided excellent advice. Weather wreaked havoc on Don's project calendar in early 2023 and he had to juggle projects. My project didn't have a tight deadline, so I did him a favor by agreeing to push my project out several months. Don repaid that favor and then some. It was a verbal agreement, not a change order to the contract, and he was a man of his word. We've built two houses in the last 25 years. This barn was not our first rodeo. Stuff happens (or as Roseanne Rosannadanna often said, "it's always something"). Because of that, you want someone you can rely on. Don Raines was great to work with and we love the results. Highly recommend Raines Construction Services for pole building projects.

My first complaint with Mr. Raines and Raines Construction is regarding lack of time management. My…read morebarn was projected to finish within four months. The construction crew broke ground in June, and by December of the same year, the barn was approximately 65% completed, per the barn kit manufacturer's estimate. Secondly, Mr. Raines did not sufficiently assess the blueprints before providing me with a contract. As a result, Mr. Raines underbid the project and then later attempted to pass cost overruns to me (despite the contract being a fixed-bid contract), claiming that I had made changes to the original design. Additional details which were communicated to him directly from the kit manufacturer regarding the proper storage of material were ignored. Storage of building materials outside, coupled with the increased time to complete the project, resulted in approximately $38,000 of wood damage once the weather turned. My final and most costly complaint is with regards to the quality of work done. I believe the project for which I hired him was outside the scope and capabilities of his crew, both in terms of the complexity of the design and time to complete. Mr. Raines inaccurately represented his abilities to me when I hired him for this project. As a result, there is approximately $200,000 worth of repair/rework that still needs to be completed, including replacining a leaking roof, adding rebar to cracked concrete floors, restaining the exterior to protect from weather damage, rehanging uneven stall doors, and additional excavating costs to divert water away from the foundation. Ultimately, Mr. Raines refused to continue working on the project after I declined to cover his overrun costs, leading to a lawsuit which has taken three years to resolve and personally cost me over $32,000 in legal fees, as well as a barn that is damaged, poorly constructed, and has significant additional costs to complete compared to the contract and bid that Mr. Raines provided. Based on all the reasons listed above, I cannot recommend hiring Mr. Raines to build your barn.

I would highly recommend Ron. Our project was quite ambitious: complete redo of our guest bathroom…read more(new vanity, shower, tile on wall and floors), redo of 2-person master shower, and new kitchen island with installation of induction cooktop and downdraft hood. Ron is without question the best contractor that I have ever worked with. He is detail oriented, a good communicator, VERY knowledgeable (he's been doing this for decades), and very obviously committed to doing a good job and making sure that people are happy with the result. He's also a genuinely nice person to work with. Being a detail-oriented person myself I had lots of questions for him throughout the process. He always took the time to explain things to me and if needed alter how he was doing things to fit our needs. He even took the tine to answer other questions about the house that weren't related to the job. The quality of the renovation depends in large part on the quality of the subcontractors. Ron works with a set group of contractors / companies (plumbers, tile installers, furniture makers, etc.) which he has developed a close relationship over the years. I have consistently been impressed with the quality of their work and they are all genuinely nice/reliable people. It gets tiring over the weeks having strangers in and out of your house and everyone to a person that he works with has been a nice person, obviously committed to their work but also happy to stop and explain exactly what they're doing and why. I think it's a testament to the relationship that Ron has built with these contractors that many of them have told me privately and unbidden how much they respect Ron and enjoy working for him (or in the case of companies to which we have been referred have smiled when we told them who had sent us and told us that we were in good hands). One final note. It is apparently common practice for tile workers to pour off their tailings into people's back yards, despite the fact that this practice is banned by the EPA and illegal in some cities (it is in West Linn where I checked). Given our extensive gardens I balked at this; Ron was surprised that I had an issue with it, but then worked to come up with a workaround that we could all agree on. I'm just putting this in so that if you care about this (it will definitely affect the plants in your yard and also can contaminate the ground water) you can request that whoever you work with develop a different strategy (we let it settle in barrels, poured off the cleanish water into some gravel, and sent the rest of the goop to be disposed of).
