I dealt with Christine. She was very cold and 'matter of fact'. Everything I posted indeed happened. I certainly would have liked to have management there on that evening. As you can imagine, it was an extremely sad & stressful time for myself and our three sons. There was no one present to ask for help. Again, once the bill was settled, management disappeared. I did receive a cake from a bakery from your buisness the following week which was the only upside as I hadn't eaten for days. I still feel very badly as things could've gone a whole lot better. Again, no one even asked if I needed anything or helped the guests get situated. I literally stood up the whole time not knowing what to do. It took me a while to have the courage to even write this. It's difficult to continue to realize that things did not go well.

Our family can never thank him for the peace he has given us. My brother Glenn recently passed away in Texas. He he did not have a wife or family who could take care of his burial in Texas. I contacted Schmitt's funeral and spoke to Curt and he recommended a funeral director in El Paso TX who I was able to get my brother from the hospital morgue to a facility where he could be properly cremated and then after some veterans paperwork... We were able to have his remains shipped to New York to the Charles G Schmitt funeral home. Curt was wonderful with his staff making arrangements for my brother who is an army veteran. The thing is I haven't been in contact with my brother for over 40 years so I didn't have a lot of information and what little information I was able to provide they were able to get my brother approved to be laid to rest at the Long Island National veterans cemetery in Farmingdale. The staff at the Long Island National veterans cemetery was amazing, I was thankful for the honor guard as well as the clergy that was provided. There is no words for the value and appreciation one gets from a military service. Whether you choose to have your loved one buried in a traditional grave site or placed in an urn and put in a niche... Solemnly walked up the steps and was greeted by a host. I gave the last name and he instructed me where to go. Looks like they have a few decently sized rooms. Signed the welcome book and entered the room straight to the back. As you can imagine there was a coffin in the back of the room, rows of chairs, a couple couches, those bronze hand things to hold Mass cards... Flowers etc. Looked like a nice place, comfortable and solemn feeling. I said my condolences and got out of dodge because dead bodies in a room seem weird to me. When I left the host said something pleasant, but I said, "have a nice day" and bee lined. If this is your last stop, and your family wants to traditionally display you while they hover around... I'd consider this place. Grief isn't a laughing matter, and these people seem Professional and well versed in how to handle these situations, unlike myself.

From my first call with Phil, he made sure we felt comfortable and cared for. When it came time for decisions about Mass cards and a dress (amongst other things), we were presented with a wide choice of options to make sure it was personal to our family. We were able to hold a morning wake with a small service at the end before the procession which was very appropriate. The Deacon was eloquent. I made some sandwiches to ensure my 85-year-old dad had something to eat, and Vinny was nice enough to run back and forth to the refrigerator whenever we asked for these and waters for our guests. Joe was our hearse driver, and he was excellent at waiting at the correct traffic lights so as not to lose anybody on the way to the cemetery. His Consecration prayer at the gravesite was perfect. I hope I don't talk to these guys too much, but I absolutely know where I'm going if I need compassionate, thorough funeral services.

Easy access from Old County road across from Eisenhower Park, the first buildings are the offices and what appeared to be a mausoleum. I needed to find the burial site so found a small parking lot behind the offices and as I was heading in, I noticed some public restrooms with entrances from the parking lot - so you know, in the need to let that coffee go, I popped in. Restroom was clean and well maintained. Somewhat on the older side, it reminded me of restrooms from grade school. With that business handled, I found the main entrance to the office and after a few moments with the helpful staff, I had a map in hand and an approximate location as to where the plot was. Found the well marked section and spent a few moments figuring out the stone sequence and found the person I was looking for. The grounds are well maintained - the stones are all a certain height - makes for a uniform appearance. I paid my respects, headed out - exits were clearly marked. a Good experience overall

I must share that I remain very disappointed with the (lack of) service I received while seriously mourning my spouse. To make a very long story short, I initially placed a deposit on an indoor, non-glass Niche approximately 2 months (Jan 2024) before he passed from a long and painful illness. Of course when he passed at the end of March, I immediately paid off the balance... Approximately 2 weeks after his services in mid April, I was informed by one one of their representatives that they had glass covered Niches- that would allow his family (and I) to "see" the URN through the glass. This sounded so much more comforting to me and I immediately informed the gentleman that I'd like to place my husband's ashes in that type of Niche instead. He escorted me to the columbarium where he proceeded to show me "Un-occupied" NICHES for additional money. No problem, I placed a reasonable deposit the same day- feeling quite content with my decision.. I returned a couple of weeks later to finalize the balance owed and met with a different representative this time. Upon handing over the check, he suddenly tells me that in order to proceed with the transfer of the URN, I'd have to secure a notarized permission from each of his 5 adult children (from a previous marriage). #1 I explained that they each lived in differing states, #2, they probably would not be visiting or at least, scarcely visit due to the distance and #3 they were not a part of the burial plans at all, financially or planning wise. Despite my chronic assistance that day and beyond) that I (as the sole person that signed ALL previous burial related docs), the man said "that's the rule." Of course I asked to speak to a Supervisor (who was not available) and by this time, I was crying profusely. A "supervisor" called me 2 days later and said she'd bring up my situation to the cemetery's board the following day. I sincerely expected that as a business that catered to grieving individuals, they'd FULLY understand my plight and my request to transfer my husband's ashes to a glass-doored columbarium niche as I expressed repeatedly that his adult children were not disciplined enough to submit to such a request, thus causing me additional emotional pain- for God's sake they did not collaborate with all of the decisions I made to ensure that my husbands last resting place was as I wanted - as I requested as it was my decision alone. I tried and tried to plead with them over many weeks (even hiring an attorney) but they refused to budge.. How sad it is that I had to go through so much unnecessary emotional pain simply because I wanted to move my husband a mere 30 feet, in the same building and on the same floor. I had paid the additional fees in FULL thinking they would have had some sense of decency and empathy to honor a customer's reasonable request. Remember that I was NOT told that I needed his children's notarized signatures when I initially placed he deposit.... Through this day, I remain very HURT and ANGRY and wish I could remove my husbands' remains from Holy Rood Cemetery for their lack of empathy - who can one run this kind of business when the grief is so intense? I would NOT recommend them - while I know it's a BUSINESS, they should have assisted me with my request as there are exceptions in every aspect of life. They should have worked with me!!!!!!

I've gone back and forth over the last month deciding whether to post this review. I finally…read moredecided that if it will help others alleviate some of their pain on the day of a loved ones funeral, then here is my review and advice: Although my mother was ethnically and culturally Jewish, she was not at all religious so we called and asked if they had a non-religious chapel for a secular memorial service. Kevin assured us we could have a non-religious/secular service. We then met with Kevin who showed us the neutral memorial chapel (they have another religious one next door) and he was helpful explaining all costs and coordination with cemetery. The funeral was scheduled for Monday. On Sunday the town car showed up to pick us up which freaked us out thinking they scheduled the funeral on the wrong day. Kevin apologized and owned his mistake. The town car came at correct time the next day but the driver was on the phone with (clearly) personal calls throughout the drive there and back, very unprofessional and insensitive. We had asked in initial meeting if there was a way to put up photos and they said they had large magnet boards to do photo collages. The magnets turned out to be a collection of chipped, broken, irregularly shaped chunks of old magnetic strips which looked junky and were hard to work with. New magnets would cost them $20 or less on Amazon and would be both much easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing. They told us most people prepare their photos at home but not until we were already there struggling with their crummy magnets. Had we known, we would have bought our own boards and magnets. There were trays of yarmulkes laid out and men attending funeral put them on. We specifically chose this chapel and told them we were having a nonreligious service so it caught us by surprise, We had to ask the men working to remove the trays of yarmulkes and also ask guests to remove them as my mother would have wanted. This made things weird and awkward. We were very glad to be told that the service could be live streamed for people to watch who could not attend in person. Since there was a very small number of people attending in a large chapel, I chose to stand close to them instead of at the podium up on the dais. Unfortunately, none of the men working, there standing in the room to help, ever told me beforehand that I HAD to stand at the podium, using the microphone, in order for the people watching the live stream to hear me! This was a MAJOR lack of communication on their part! I only found out I couldn't be heard on web streaming when I inquired about getting a recording of service days later and was told I would not be heard on it because I was not at the podium. I felt so sad and disappointed that others watching couldn't hear me and that I couldn't be heard on recording. I had asked days ahead of time if we could play a specific song at the end and was told by Kevin they could pull it up on Spotify to play through their speakers in chapel. After numerous failed attempts by multiple staff to try to get the song to play over speakers and then also not starting song from the beginning - which included waiting, leaving chapel to ask what's the problem, coming back in, waiting, asking again what was going on - we got a rude hostile attitude from Kevin! Ordinarily one of us would have confronted Kevin about his unprofessional attitude but not in the midst of the funeral. I finally just played the song holding my phone up to the microphone on the podium. It was an extremely awkward end to the service. Lastly, again, we chose this place because we wanted a non-religious memorial. They still draped a large cloth with a Jewish star on the coffin AND attached another one on the coffin which I had to rip off at the gravesite, leaving chunks of adhesive on the coffin, as it was lowered into the ground. We could not have been clearer from the first phone call and subsequent meeting about what my mother wanted, a non religious service. They just didn't listen or pay attention to the details! The fact that the cost of it all included obligatory "gratuities" for people working there for what was ultimately terrible service was also very disappointing. To summarize my advice to minimize stress and have things run smoothly: 1. Be very clear about religious vs. secular preference details. 2. Confirm date of service and town car. 3. Bring photos on your own boards or just bring your own magnets. Bring large photos in your own frames to display on table. 4. You must stand at podium using microphone to be heard on webcam. 5. Check sound system is working and test music is cued up properly beforehand or have music ready on your device to play into podium microphone. I hope this was helpful. My sincerest condolences to you at your time of loss.
