For the past 9.5 years, my sweet girl Brooklyn has been a patient at McAbee Veterinary Hospital, and I can honestly say they have always treated her with kindness, patience, and genuine care. Over the years, we've seen quite a bit of staff turnover, but one thing has remained consistent: everyone has been incredibly warm, gentle, and loving with my fur baby. As a pet parent, there's nothing more reassuring than knowing your dog is being cared for by people who truly love animals. My only real disappointment is that they no longer offer grooming services. Being able to drop Brooklyn off for a little doggy spa day while taking care of her veterinary needs was such a convenience, and we definitely miss that! The other challenge is the cost. Veterinary care isn't cheap, and visits can certainly add up. That said, I've always felt that the staff genuinely wants what's best for Brooklyn and has provided her with compassionate care throughout the years. We've taken our dog here in the past but not my cat. Was told that they didn't have any openings and wouldn't be able to fit me in since I was a new client and to take him to an emergency vet because he has a blockage and would need to have surgery immediately. My cat has had this issue before so the receptionist response sounded off as they would need to check if he's blocked first. I asked if it would be possible to fit me in even just drop him off to be seen later and was told no. Called 4 Paws as a last minute appointment and new client. They said they would be double booking but that I could drop him off to do an exam. He was in fact not blocked and they would do further exams to make sure everything was okay. Everything done within an hour. No surgery, no panic. Disappointed in the response I got from McAbee and for the person I spoke to over the phone to tell me my cat had a blockage and would need emergency surgery as a blanket statement without even seeing him is unprofessional. Had I not know better that would have put me into a huge panic. Almost felt like they were just brushing me off. read more

I'm consistently disappointed in the care and communication I receive. The culture has shifted negatively quite a bit. They seem to prioritize money over animal care and I've just hit my limit. I want to love this clinic because of how close it is to home, but the staff and service suck especially if you need someone to care for your pet. For instance, I called this morning to see if they could do a urinalysis on urine I collected -- the night before we went to the er vet and couldn't collect any so was advised to collect urine and take to primary vet to test for uti-- McAbee refused to run the tests unless I booked a full appointment and of course they are always fully booked. Told us to take back to the er, so okay. THEN McAbee proceeds to call my partner and leave a snarky voicemail a few hours later once they received the paperwork from the er vet. Asking how the cat was doing and if they could help at all... as if they didn't just speak to someone that morning and turned the cat away, didn't even ask how the cat was doing, so why ask on a voicemail? I jump between at-home-vet (easier on pets), the er (because it's open when everything is closed) & this place. The other clinics never give me a hard time and trust the history that comes from McAbees, but it seems every time I present McAbees with history from a different vet, they have to do a whole new evaluation and get snarky about how i went somewhere else... Its just not streamline or at your pets best interest, it just seems unhelpful and not a great relationship to have with your clinic. Maybe they are great with full lengthy appointments planned months ahead, but they aren't really there for us when our pets really need them. read more

I've been using this Vet infrequently for the past few years. The first visit in 2021 or 2022 may have been due to needing emergency care for my cat. After expense and testing and no answers, I ended up taking her to her regular vet. It cost me more but after some testing, medication, etc. my cat recovered. Due to proximity and the other Vet clinic relocating, I decided to bring her in last year for an overall health exam and the one vaccine that was needed. Due to concern for my cat's then recent experience, I was concerned about whether she was ill and paid for the plethora of exam testing. I was satisfied with the care and results of that visit. Since the blood work is considered valid for up to 90 days, I decided to take her back this month for a tooth cleaning. During the procedure, I was called about extract 2 back teeth and a canine. I agreed to the 2 back teeth as it is impossible for me to monitor those and asked for before photos. This of course increased the price. I was shown/given the photos, however, I don't know enough to definitively say that the extraction was necessary. For now, I just have to trust that the correct action was taken. My feline recovered well. The follow-up visit was included in the charges paid so I took her back 2 weeks later. The follow-up visit went well. During the check up I learned that her gums were still a bit tender so I was told to administer more meds for a few days. The Vet took care to ask questions about Cinnamon's habits and behavior as well as answer question that I had. So far, the clinic has been pretty good with following up by either phone or e-mail. Generally, February is dental health month so there is typically a discount offered for dental services obtained in February. I believe that I received 10% off the total billed for services. Overall, the staff that I've encountered have been friendly, patient, appear knowledgeable and to care about animals. Generally, my cat only requires a trip to the Vet for vaccines and has only been to one less than a handful of times outside of this in 7 years. For now, I'm comfortable with keeping McAbee as her primary clinic for veterinary services. read more

I feel the need to update my review given the recent care. My pets have received from this facility. Apparently, Dr. Maccabee has sold this practice NVA. With the sale, the care, management, and staff response have all gone downhill. Again, my pets have been clients since 1992, so I have seen this change occur. This facility allowed me the opportunity to make a same day appointment. The wait was short and the front desk was friendly. Rooms were clean. We had one primary issue when making the appointment. We had a few others that were concerning (she had vomited and was boarded over the weekend), but I made the appointment for concerns UTI as she had had this before. This shows as a concern on her lab work but I was told her urine was fine. How did I find out? I went to a different vet for the same concern and they had the records sent and not one note states I made the appointment because she gets UTI's - Not one note on her visit stated this concern. I have a text from them before her appointment asking me to collect it myself, so I know it was clear a UTI was a reason why we were coming. Later, at a new place we get a new urine sample and she's got clots it's so bad. Now, she's on abx and finally comfortable. Maybe, they are more thorough with pets they are more familiar with and not same day appointments. We won't be one of them. I won't even go into what they came back with further testing cost after they told me the urine was neg. She was NOT asymptomatic. She did not have a negative urine. All in all, she was lethargic longer than she should have been, in pain longer, and had an infection longer, and this was a $1500 ordeal. She had a UTI. read more

They quite literally saved my cat's life. My orange cat Paris had a Urinary Blockage and his body was just filling with waste. He was pretty close to dying, and Dr. Weatherford took him in for treatment, practically bringing him back from the dead. A few days later he was back to his normal misbehaving self, with 8 lives left. The staff did everything right to put me at ease with the care for my kitty. I have been taking my dogs to McAbee for at least 12 years now and have always been happy. Their staff is friendly and accommodating, they have late evening and weekend hours, and it's a bright and clean environment. I adopted a 2nd dog in late 2105, and when I brought him into McAbee for his first visit, I expected to walk out with a $150-$200 bill. When I went to check out, they told me there was no charge. Apparently when you rescue or adopt a pet, they waive the fee for the first visit. What!?!?! Who does that!?! I was floored! What an incredible offer! Once of the receptionists said it's because 'you saved their life. it's the least we can do.' This sealed the deal for me. They are top notch, class acts. #1 in my book! I will always recommend McAbee Animal Hospital to anyone who asks. When I had to put my older dog down in 2018, the staff was super compassionate and caring. My Daisy had been going there for more than a decade and they all knew us. Beth at the first desk is amazing, ushered us into a private room, gave me hugs, and even teared up herself. A week or so after Daisy left us, I received a lovely card in the mail from McAbee staff along with a paw print of my beloved dog. Cue the waterworks! It was incredibly sad at the time, but I'm incredibly grateful for the gesture. I've seen several of the Vets and they are all fantastic. In addition to being good at their jobs, they have great bedside manner as well. Oh, also, Beth their groomer is fantastic! She listens to what you want and does a great job. Everyone is very knowledgeable, from the doctors to the vet techs. They are patient when our very angry chihuahua won't let them touch her and do their best to make it the least traumatic experience possible. I never feel like they are trying to up-charge us or do unnecessary things for money, which can be an issue at other vets. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait, but if you have an appointment it isn't usually too long. We have recommended this practice to our friends and they take both their cat and dog. We've been taking our pets to MCAbee for over 20 years. Our sweet kitty was lovingly cared for by Dr. Jones for most of her 23 years until she passed. We now have a 3 year old dog who is the light of our lives. Dr. Jones has since retired and we miss her, but wish her well. On a recent visit with our pup for some allergy issues, we were seen by Dr. Vasquez. What a pleasant and very thorough exam we had. While our big girl is not the most cooperative patient, Dr. Vasquez was patient and kind and especially knowledgeable on how to best manage our girl's allergies. This place is a Money pit now, the most Expensive Vet i have ever been to they tried to charge me 685.00 for my 8lb toy terrier to get Neutered i was in shock ! they had 20 different reasons why , and a teeth cleaning 900.00 ++ i paid it because they told me 650. when picked him up they slapped me with a 945.00 bill ! said that 650 was not for Anastasha and the pulled 1 tooth . Used to be a Great Vet when the Mcabees still owned it , Dr Mcabee sold this place and allowed them to keep his name up however he is no longer there . it's not family owned any longer it's a Corp company price gouging the Doctors see you for 1 min rest of the time it's a assistant that has no idea . all the good Doctors left when they sold Dr Jones Retired she was the very best Dr. my fur babies loved her. I had all the records transferred to they new Vet in Down Town Winter Park FAMILY OWNED very caring low rates no waiting they take you in at the time of your appointment. Sadly, I had a horrible experience at McAbee with my 6 year old Beagle Lucy. I will keep this review short and to the point. This is very difficult to relive. We were new to this clinic and I informed Dr. West and Dr. Palumbo of her reoccurring Pancreatitis and Kidney issues. Lucy had a hard belly and lost her appetite on October 16th so I know it was back and immediately took her to McAbee. I told Dr. West about the Pancreatitis and she told me this is not the issue. She said it was her spine that is giving her pain and discomfort. I was concerned Dr. West wasn't listening to me and the history, but she is the professional..right? Her treatment plan was IV fluids, Morphine and rest. 3 days later Lucy got worse and couldn't even walk anymore. They gave me a $1,061 bill and told me to put her down as there is nothing they can do for her anymore. I was horrified and disgusted with it all. I then took her to UF in Gainesville who immediately diagnosed her with Pancreatitis and they even told me the Morphine that was given to Lucy made her GI tract even worse causing her even more pain and discomfort. Since her Pancreatitis and Kidney levels were so severe and she would need 2-3 weeks of hospitalization at UF we decided to put her down and out of all this pain. I wish I would have taken her to UF first and never to McAbee. I called McAbee days later to tell them UF diagnosed her with severe Pancreatitis and I would like some sort of refund for her 3 days of wasted time at their clinic. They ran multiple bloodwork all in 1-2 days without even asking me or even calling me with any results. I received a call from Scott McAbee would told me he stands behind Dr. West and disagrees with UF's diagnoses. He then rudely said "I am not refunding you anything". He showed no respect or concern at all for Lucy's passing and my horrible experience at his clinic. If I would have taken Lucy to UF from the start maybe she would have had a fighting chance. I hope no one experiences what I had to go through with this clinic. Please remember to always get a second opinion with you fur babies. I will mourn and miss Lucy forever. Shame on you McAbee!!! Dr McAbee is evidently not here anymore and it shows. I have been bringing my pets to this hospital for 20 years but no more. I will immediately be looking for a new veterinarian and I can tell anyone who is looking for a good vet to look elsewhere because the 4.7 star review that is there now is only because of the high ratings when McAbee was still actively working here. I've been going to Dr. S. McAbee for 12 years. I drive 45 mins to see him and will not go anyplace else. Dr. McAbee is amazing - he caught my dogs (rare) cancer in the early stage . When I took my dog to UF Small Animal Hospital Oncology, they were shocked /impressed because most vets / owners do not catch prostate cancer until it has spread (my dog was fixed as a puppy - treating dog prostate cancer is different than men). Dr. McAbee and UF oncology gave me 6 more months with my baby and I will never forget that. There is one lady upfront that I find short and rude but the rest of the staff is friendly. Dr. P and Dr. Braun are also great! If you have to stay goodbye to your fur baby, I recommend Lap of Love which is a vet that comes to your home to put your baby to rest. They are very caring and will review medical records /consult your regular vet if need be... I got a private cremation. read more

I don't care what upheaval they are experiencing since McAbee sold the practice 3-4 years ago, they are letting down their long-time clientele. This vet was such a relief to go to after going to Banfield pet hospital. They are so nice and so good with the animals. Most vets usually muzzle my dog because she gets nervous. But everyone at Mcabee was so patient and calm and they didn't even muzzle her. Their disposition actually affected her and she acted much calmer. Their prices are very reasonable. They actually answer the phone when you call unlike Banfield. And they seem more knowledgeable. I will definitely be taking my dog here to see Dr. Imbriale from now on. read more

Updated: Sadly disappointed. I took my puppy at 8 weeks old to establish care with a vet at this office. I brought shot records and we discussed the vaccination schedule. I was told to return at 11 weeks to receive the DA2PP#2 and Bordetella vaccines. I returned for the appointment at 11 weeks and was given completely different information that from my first visit, I'm not even sure how they made this mistake. We discussed the shot records in detail during the first visit and I was given a quote for the return visit. Now my pups vaccine schedule is all off because of their error. This could have been prevented during the first visit according to them at the second visit. I don't even know what to believe anymore. Overall, I'm disappointed because they've lost my trust in their ability to provide care for my puppy. If I can't trust them with a vaccine schedule, how could I trust them to continue to provide care for my dogs health? Am I always going to be misinformed and have to question everything? It's just not worth it. The staff is friendly and the facility is clean. Just can't trust them sadly. read more

I have been going Here since twenty sixteen when One of my dogs had to have spinal surgery. Doctor Jones took very good care of my sasha. However in the time frame we got a new dog in 2019. Leo who was sickly had stomach issues so I would take him often about his stomach. This past weekend. I called in because my Leo was having stomach issues again. And this time it was pretty bad and I called to speak to the office manager because I did not have the money to pay for The Visit and I wanted. To see about a payment plan since I had been coming there for so long. And knew of others that they had worked with before along with the receptionist tell me that it was the discretion of the office manager. I have been to so many vets since moving to Orlando from NYC and I can honestly say I've never met a nicer staff in all my 12 years of being a pet owner. My family and I practice holistic medicine and in most western veterinary clinics, that is really looked down upon. I have a 14 yo maltese name Moe, and he has so many health issues, the list would be shorter if I told you what wasn't wrong with him. Every time I come to McAbee's for any kind of testing or advice, they never make me feel like a terrible owner for Moe's conditions. It's nice to go somewhere where you aren't judged for caring for your pet in a non-traditional way. My little old man is currently going through kidney failure on top of having a tumor and skin allergies. Dr. Jones never once made me feel pressured to put him on any medications I wasn't comfortable with. I am very grateful to have found this clinic for Moey. There are a few things that went wrong with this vet office. First, I don't like being made to wait. Your office gave me a time to be at an appointment and I came on time. If your doctor's can't do the same, what's the point in setting up an appointment? Second, I was told that when I paid for my puppy's shots that they would be done in a series and that I paid for the whole series on the first visit. Well, when I took him in for subsequent shots, they charged me again. Don't tell a client they've already paid for something and then stick them with another bill. And third, and worst of all, my puppy's health was put at risk. I took my puppy in a month ago for shots and I had noticed that he looked very skinny. I was feeding him as recommended, but his ribs were sticking out. The vet said he was fine and that he would fill out with age. Then I took my puppy in today for a check up and shots and was told by a different vet in the same office that I wasn't feeding my dog enough and that he should be eating double what I was giving him. I specifically asked about his feeding a month ago, I commented on his ribs, and your office told me he was fine. Now I'm being told he's not fine and that for that ENTIRE month I've been underfeeding him because of one of your doctors. I do not trust this vet's office with much of anything: timeliness, accountability, billing, or compassionate health care for animals.
