While it was a nice experience, it felt a bit underwhelming compared to other displays we've seen. Not every house participated, and the ones that did featured fairly standard Christmas lighting, with a few exceptions. Came on a Friday evening. There was parking scattered. It was 1 mile walk with the loop and cut outs! That said, there were about 4-5 homes that truly stood out and went all out with their displays--those were stunning and definitely stole the show. The atmosphere was pleasant for a walk, and you could easily enjoy the entire display within an hour. Walking is definitely the way to go; driving doesn't provide the same immersive experience. A lovely bonus was the handful of homes selling hot cocoa, cookies, baked goods, coffee, and even pup cups for dogs! We enjoyed some hot chocolate and appreciated the sweet photo opportunities set up by a few houses. Overall, it was a fun evening, but compared to other areas, like the Scripps Ranch light display where every house participates with incredible themes, this felt quieter and less cohesive. However, we greatly appreciate the effort of those who did participate and enjoyed the festive spirit of the evening. A solid 4 stars!

According to the website for the Filipino Sun Festival, "The Filipino Sun is historically (and geographically) significant, as the sun symbolizes unity, freedom, people's democracy, and sovereignty, while each of the eight rays represent the first eight provinces (Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, and Batangas) that rose up and started the 1896 Philippine Revolution against Spain." The Filipino Sun Festival has been around the Mira Mesa area for two years; its mission statement is to "celebrate, promote, and share Filipino and Filipino American pride, culture, heritage, and history through educational, historical, and cultural activities and programs." Currently, it's a pretty small local festival - many of the vendors I saw this past Saturday were the same ones represented at the Mira Mesa Street Fair, including newly minted District 6 councilman Chris Cate (whom I unfortunately missed when I got there). A number of the booths were manned by youth and young adult groups as well; perhaps the Filipino Sun Festival is a way for them to get their community service work requirements done. The food court had about 10 vendors, four of which were Filipino food booths. In fact, I heard some people grumbling that they were expecting to see more Filipino food offerings; hopefully as this festival gets more traction as the years go by, they'll be more on board. I did order a stick of BBQ pork and some lumpia while I was there, as well as some takoyaki (fried octopus shaped into balls) from a Japanese booth - I was pleased with what I ordered, even if the bonito flakes were piled onto my takoyaki. There's also a beer garden sponsored by San Miguel (the major Filipino beer brand) on premises - San Miguel USA is one of the festival sponsors. I partook of their $2 happy hour, and got a pretty good buzz on, as well as one of the hats the booth was giving out. (At their booth, if you follow them on three forms of social media, you could score a free golf shirt... unfortunately, by the time I got there, the only size they had was medium. Guess someone will be getting a free shirt from me as a gift.) The entertainment hit the spot - while I missed seeing the performance from The Voice's Katriz Trinidad, there was a pretty decent Filipino beatboxer, and the dance performance from Tekniqlingz (tinikling dancers that also incorporate hip hop) was off the hook! The Filipino Sun Festival may be a small local festival, but there's potential there for growth. I'd like to see how it improves as time goes on.

It comes pre sliced so it's easy to freeze and take a slice at a time. Although I'm not gluten free, I think the rosemary sourdough is outstanding and comparable to gluten bread. I love that the bread doesn't have a lot of other common allergens like corn and soy. Sometimes we'll get the cinnamon bread too and freeze it. It smells so amazing when toasted. We live in La Jolla so it's a bit of a trip to go to Little Italy and find parking for the market to pick up this bread, but it's worth it. I wish they sold in more places. Highly recommend!

He gets SO excited for it, he literally looks at the program all year, loves his Blue Angels shirt, and is obsessed with all the little airplanes he gets there. You can pay for reserved seats or come completely FREE and bring your own chairs. The grounds are huge, with tons of planes, helicopters, fighter jets, military vehicles, and service members everywhere who are happy to answer the kids' questions. My biggest advice: GET THERE EARLY. We went Friday, arrived pretty early, and it still took about 30 minutes to get through security. Parking, getting onto the base, and leaving can all take a while. If you have handicap parking, make sure you go through the handicap entrance to save yourself about an hour. Also, it is HOT!!!!!!! Hotter than what the temperature says It's gonna be! There is basically zero shade, very little breeze, and lots of hot concrete. Bring chairs, an umbrella or shade, sunscreen, hats, a wagon, and WAY more water than you think you'll need. Check the current bag rules before you go. we brought a clear bag, and coolers may be allowed for medical needs. There are tons of food vendors, ice cream, Kona Ice, drinks, etc., but the lines can get long. Definitely walk through all the vendor booths too because there are lots of little freebies for the kids. Bring hearing protection for the kids, honestly, adults may want it too. Those jets are LOUD. Grab a program while you're there too! It has the schedule and lots of fun information. This year on Friday, things seemed to be running about 45 minutes to an hour behind, so I wouldn't rely on the posted times being exact. One tip for leaving: pack everything up before the Blue Angels and head toward your car. You can still get a great view from the parking area while already being packed up and ready to leave instead of fighting the entire crowd afterward. Overall, such a cool event. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly, and we're so thankful for all the service members who take the time to talk to the kids and make it such a special experience. We'll definitely make it an annual tradition

The civilians were unjustly yelled at and mistreated constantly..It's an embarrassment to our country and a disgrace to our tax dollars. Upon arrival, there was only one Uber pick up and drop off location that was a mile away.., and for those with handicapped issues the lack of care it's a fucking joke. A member in our party had fell and injured herself upon and had a very difficult time walking and it took us aggressive and extensive searching for any kind of assistance or help, only to arrive to our hundred dollar ticket VIP tent to be inadequate in air ventilation or comfortability. Money wasted for sure. We then attempted to leave early. We tried communicating that we had an injured (elderly) person and needed assistance and not one single person gave a fuck. We were treated like peasants and disregarded constantly. I know this review is not gonna get heard or seen and won't make a difference to anybody who is in charge of this show and it's just sad because I've always loved our men and women in the military , and our Air Force .... Of all the shows I've been to, this one is the most disgusting display of what America represents! It has been an absolute embarrassment and I'm ashamed that I spent money to be treated like this. A piece of art that really moves you, get it?…read more Public art is always subject to debate, and in San Diego the preference tends to run on the "less-than classy side". Statues of dolphins, horses, and fishermen will barely cause a ripple on anyone's radar. However, there is one sculpture in particular that causes looks of befuddlement more than any where else. Representing a large bowel movement, this sculpture is often referred to as the "Scripps Turd" which remains its reputation to this day. The Abstract Sculpture, titled Okeanos, a.k.a. "The Scripps Turd" is made of bronze and was created by artist William Tucker. Tucker is a modern British sculpture and art scholar born in Cairo, Egypt. He attended the University of Oxford and went on to further study sculpture at Saint Martin's School of Art in London under teacher and mentor Anthony Caro. He has since received several awards and honors for his work, such as: The Guggenheim Fellowship for Creative Arts in 1986. The International Sculpture Center's Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture in 2010. The title of National Academician at the National Academy Museum in 2011. People driving along North Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla had undoubtedly once noticed Tucker's big, hulking 13-foot piece of art in front of the Scripps Green Hospital. Despite the public's distaste for the art piece, the 3,500-pound sculpture was commissioned for $200,000 in 1987. The money came from donors in honor of Frank J. Dixon, the Director of the Institute for 25 years. Tucker named the artwork after the Greek god of rivers and oceans, Okeanos or (Ōkeanós), also known as Oceanus. Okeanos was a Titan who represented the ocean and was the eldest son of Uranus (ha) and Gaia. Tucker said the form, to him, suggested an ocean wave, and it was hailed by many critics when it was revealed. Michael Brenson, the former art critic of The New York Times, wrote of Okeanos in 1988: "The sculpture is a rippling curve that seems to spew out of the earth and curl up like a wave. It suggests not only water but also clouds and vegetation and human limbs." Alas, the public didn't feel the same way. Nor did philanthropist Edythe H. Scripps, who had "The Turd" moved to a new location by The Scripps Research Institute at the mere cost of another $40,000 (more money down the drain. I drew inspiration in recalling a smaller sculpture featured in the classic documentary film on the life of legend Joseph Dirtè (see tip photo). Upon seeing this work of art, the latter was most likely inspired by this same piece. A "chip off the old creative block" perhaps.

All I am saying is, if your family hops in SUV to drive all the way across town, just make sure you understand it is ONE house, (1), singular..not plural. PERIOD. Just ONE house that does lights. Now, that 1 house is an incredible sight to see, as you can tell from the photos and videos posted online and on yelp. They support a wonderful cause, we donated in the cute donation box set up in the front - the music is wonderful, the lighting goes perfectly - it is a synchronized light show - I mean, they did it right.... I just wanted to clarify for anyone that turns right on BELARDO and thinks...why are none of these houses lit up, why is it so dark, why does no one have lights...well...ya gotta keep on driving until ya get to the one house. Keep in mind that you are there to support the community and honor the cultural education.. ie not for the dining experience.. Food was ok.. Service was via high school volunteers .. They offered plenty of seating to dine and places for the kids to watch the show. The dancing and singing was so lovely while watching the sun set over the hills. Although the air conditioning in the consulate is at odds with the typical daytime ambient air temperature of the fatherland, the consulate does provide many fantastic benefits. What benefits might this be? It's a safe space for writing utensils of all sizes. It's a UNESCO world heritage site (application pending). They have free margaritas when I'm in the parking lot. Not only is the consulate conveniently located next to several major freeways, but there is also a partially stocked Walmart garden center within a short drive. I was quarantined in the bathroom on the way in so I never actually visited the inside of the consulate. I'm sure it's fantastic as it's been blessed by the presence Sultan (peace be upon his majestic Mercedes). They seem to appreciate flooring and hi-backed chairs. 10 out of 10? Hells Yeah!
