My wife and I have been eyeing this place for a while and one night we finally decided to go. We came in on a busy night but the server helped us out with the menu. We took his recommendation, one slice of the Meat Lovers Deep Dish, and a half/half pizza with the Brooklyner and the Mother in Law. This place has probably one of the best pies we've had in a while. We loved that the same server kept checking in on us to see how we liked the pizza, and just loved the overall vibe of the place. We ended up coming back a second time to try the Master Deep Dish (one of the same server's recommendations) and we loved it. Chicago-style deep dish or NY-style thin crust are both tasty! Lots of combos and to order. The wings were good too. I liked the lemon pepper better than the gochujang. The gochujang had a nice kick, but I expected it to be a little sweeter. I love that you can buy pizza by the slice, and you can even get a combo of 6 individual slices with a large salad and garlic knots--great idea! The place has a great selection for thin slices and deep dish pizza. What's great about this spot is you don't have to order an entire pie but have a great selection of slices and beer on tap. Best of all they Have Pliny the Elder on tap, that's probably one of the best qualities for this place Their deep dish slices can sometimes feel/taste dry, since they're essentially re-heating the pizza it seems. Someday may have to try a fresh pizza to see if it's any better/different. Also, great to have a good deep dish and beer deal - though it is pricy Ambiance is quite mixed since it's so close to UCSD. OUtside of the summer months it's gonna be packed at your standard dinner times, but the move is to come during the summer months when campus is quieter and the resulting surrounding restaurants get quieter as well. This is 3.6 stars rating. The place was packed on Friday night. I'm a huge fan of deep dish pizza and was looking forward to a great pie. It took a 40-45 minutes to get our order. When our order came, it was massive. I was excited to dive right in but sadly it didn't live up to actual Chicago deep dish pizzas that I had in Chicago. It was way too doughy. It was mostly bread and there was a layer of bread within the pizza. The meat to bread ratio was way off. It was cheesy though. Maybe their New York pizza is good but I probably won't be having their Chicago style pizza. The ambiance was nice. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Rather than fight the traffic to get home, we decided to stop and have dinner. Thanks to Yelp we found this location. It's a very busy spot, even on a Wednesday night. It's funny because there are several restaurants within this little strip plaza but this is the one that has the business. There's indoor and outdoor seating, which is really nice. We had a nice breeze on a hot summer night. Full pizza starts around $35. We (me and my folks) each had the special which was two slices and a drink. This ended up being slightly less, for three of us, then ordering a large pizza.. New York style it's what you get for the specials. I must say, w e were tempted by the Chicago style and calzones. And definitely intrigued by the pastas. We went with the white slice and eggplant. I know...we're a boring family since all three of us got the same thing. And we all enjoyed it! New York style is a thin crust and crunchy. Slices are huge making it definitely worth the investment. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of grease especially on the eggplant Parmesan pizza. It is unique. The white pizza had chees and spinach and is delicious hot. While, dad wasn't a huge fan of the eggplant pizza, he really enjoyed the white pizza which had him going from a yeah it's OK to I like it. We lucked out and there wasn't a line to place an order until ten minutes after we did and the place was swamped. We've been here several times and know how to order but it is confusing at first and a bit chaotic at the counter/where to stand/servers scrambling around the same area/pick up drivers looking confused but the chaos is with it as the pizza is awesome. Placed ordered for our table which needed up being five deep dish slices and fountain drinks. Tip - Pounce on a table quickly when u arrive and have someone else order as this place gets bonkers. Definitely a favorite pizza place. Whenever I visit my best friend in San Diego, I mention going back to Regents. Of course, we finally did after a few years of hiatus. Regents is located right across from UTC shopping and has its own parking lot. If you get it validated, the first hour is free. But of course, when hanging out at Regents, you'll spend a few hours here. They have an extensive beer menu and a pizza slice menu. Instead of ordering both separately, I like to get their combos: I ordered their Combo that has two pizza slices and a beer of my choice. It's not bad! I chose a classic pepperoni and a white sauce pizza to go along with my Hazy IPA. After ordering, they give you a number, and you can choose any open seats from inside and out. The utensils are napkins are a must. These pizza slices are HUGE! Bigger than my hand and definitely bigger than my beer glass. Coming out fresh and hot, these pizzas are delicious and go down well with a beer. The interior is bustling with people (and flies because it gets hot). Ordered takeout from here for dinner. Lots of people inside eating, and a lot of college kids. I got a few slices instead of a whole pie since it was just for me. The slices are massive! 1 or 2 is definitely enough for one person. The NY slices were really good. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the MooShroom pizza since it was a white pizza. The garlic really shines through in it and the fried onion topping really adds something special. On the Brooklyner slice, they left it in the oven a bit longer so it was a bit hard. Overall though, really good crust without excessive flop. I got one slice of the Popeyes deep dish to try it out. Really solid construction, you definitely don't need a knife and fork to eat this one. Flavor was about average, perhaps a different pizza would've been better. Crust is really thick at the end of the pizza, but has good texture. I'd recommend this place to a friend. We ordered the pepperoni, cheese, NY white, NY Dominque pizzas, Caesar salad, truffle fries and pomodoro spaghetti. For desert we had the tiramisu and zeppole. The pizzas and truffle fries were good. It has been years since I have been back because I no longer live or work in the area. They have moved into a new, bigger, more hip place. It was packed on a Tuesday evening. I love how they have both Deep Dish and NY style, and you can get a full pizza or slices. You order at the front and they bring your food out. Great beer options as well. Now, the pizza, Deep Dish pepperoni was amazing! The flavors, tons of cheese and perfect end crust definitely rivals deep dish from Chicago. It is quite doughy, so be prepared. The end crust can be a whole meal in and of itself. For Deep Dish, this place is hard to beat in SD. Also, the Tiramisu got many raves from my group. And my son loved the NY style. Popular pizza spot amongst college students with it being right next to UCSD. Typically get the Chicago style deep dish when I'm here because I prefer a more doughy pizza. I also got the New York style today and wasn't a big fan of the crust, there was not really any flavor to it. In addition to that, not a fan of the flop, the pizza doesn't hold up well. The place was absolutely packed on a Friday evening. So if you're going to eat in, just note that there might be a wait. Good vibes overall. We live about 10 miles away. Even with that much distance our haul was nice and hot when we got it home! We ordered a slice of their monthly special, Salvatore Tessio. Way too many ingredients to list out, lots of meat, cheese and tomatoes, no sauce. In hand I swear it weighs a pound, very girthy. First bite, wow, that's good! Speaking of girthy pizza, we also ordered a 14" Deep Dish, their Windy City Mozzarella Classic. So; much; cheese, in the best possible way! Additionally we topped our pizza with sausage, bell peppers, onions and cupping pepperoni. Like the earlier slice, this pizza was seriously heavy. After a few bites I had to stop, was so good but was also just a lot. Gut bomb! There were some chicken wings involved as well. Slathered in buffalo sauce and accompanied by their delicious chunky blue cheese, these flappers were succulent and tender. A must. Regents is basically my friends' and I's neighborhood haunt. Living in UTC, Regents is pretty much the go-to place to grab a drink and food and hang out for a bit. The staff is friendly and they all seem to know people and get along which helps with the neighborhood spot vibe. The food never misses--the pizza is what it's known for, but honestly I haven't had anything there that has disappointed me. I also love having the buffalo chicken tender fries, especially when there's a good flavor of the month (they let you use any sauce!). The rotating flavors and taps also adds a fun reason to always keep coming back to Regents. There's always a good selection on tap, with a great range from ciders, sours, stouts, IPAs, ales, you name it. It's fun to try all the different ones since they're always rotating. The monthly flavor pizzas are also creative and I enjoy getting to try them every month. So, a review of Regents Pizzeria is sorely overdue. I was 1st introduced to Regents years ago as part of a cliche of the modern corporate workplace. You know, that onerous practice of corporate overlords rewarding unpaid extra hours & weekend work with pizza rather than any truly tangible form of appreciation. Yeah, that. But, hey, at least it was Regents. Every time this stuff showed up in the break room, which was more often than reasonable, I knew that, of all things, the pizza was going to be good. Regents is, in fact, my favorite Chicago style pizza in all of SD county. That's what I always get here. By the grace of my former employer, I've also had quite a bit of their NY style pizza & I like that a lot too. Not too long ago, I came here for their release of Russian River Pliny the Younger. In the craft beer world, it's a big deal & draws a crowd. Yes. Regents is an outstanding beer destination too. For a turnout that packed the house, service was friendly & efficient. When I checked the pasta it was only filled to 1/3 of the box. And when I checked my garlic knots there was only 2 THAT IS 3$ PER GARLIC KNOTS! The service was good but that was basically it. Having been on our pizza list to try for some time, we finally got the chance. Located in La Jolla, there's a lot in front or a structure so parking should be good. They can get very busy so if you are in a hurry, definitely try calling in your order. There is a main seating area which requires you to order at the front counter, a bar area for food and drinks as well as outdoor patios. Alcohol is not allowed out front due to liquor licensing. Inside patio is fine for drinks and food. We ordered a Greek salad, buffalo wings and a whole pie with half and half. The bowl the salad came in was a little shallow for mixing in dressing and they didn't bring out sharing plates and we had to ask. The wings were good and had plenty of sauce.
