Fresh watermelon, many varieties to pick from. Would of been a 5 but one of my yellow meats exploded at home.

I seem to forget to check out Buford Farmers Market on a regular basis when I'm looking for Asian…read morefoods. I went this past week because I was looking for 2 specific items that I wasn't able to find at 2 other large Asian markets. Someone had suggested this Market because of the extensive ethnic choices. It has Asian (Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Filipino), European, South American, Hispanic and American items. There are sections that have premade Asian meals, fresh seafood, extensive fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, pantry staples, bakery items, almost anything you might want. It's a large market and you could spend hours going up and down the aisles exploring. I was surprised to find they even had a favorite pop that I only thought I could get in Michigan. Now I know that I can go here and get it, without having to have it ordered online. It can get busy on the weekends when everyone is doing their weekly shopping, but I went later in the day and was able to find parking and not bump into people or long lines.

It has slowly gone downhill since then. I have bought their quart container of squeezed pink grapefruit juice many times, it used to be very reasonable. For the past couple of months the price has risen to $13.99 a quart !!! Whole Foods has the same thing for $8.99. Other sources are no where near $13.99. That's price gouging. All the daily house hold products are also much higher than Target, Walmart, Kroger, Publix. I cannot believe people pay the prices. Unless they are on special, berry's and fruit's are more expensive than Publix or Kroger and they look like they are second or third tier quality. The same for the vegetables, some literally still have dirt on them and are definitely poor quality. I bought sushi the other day at the counter in the back, for the price it was great. I decided to buy extra Wasabi, there were three kinds on the counter. None had a price, not on the container, not on the shelf. I asked the person behind the counter what were the prices, they said they didn't know, I would have to carry the wasabi literally diagonally across the store and get a price. The person couldn't call and ask ?!?! How does an employee not notice these items are not priced !?!? I have always loved the cafeteria, their entrees are delicious. Now some of the trays have nothing in them and some have been sitting in the trays and have a skim on the top because they haven't even stirred them up obviously for hours. 40% off after 4;30pm, great deal, but half or more of the food is gone, by 5pm they have pretty much closed up. The Mex part is closed at 4:30pm. So sad, a great resource, just about ruined. They also used to have cooking classes, which were great. They haven't had a class in years. Today I go in and by 4 items, the lines are long, so I took it to the quick checkout near the entrance. A person in front of me had over 10 items, each bag was like 5 pounds of vegetables each. He was not an employee, be paid cash. I asked the cashier so the line is no longer 10 items or less? She shrugged her shoulders !!! There used to be 10 items or less registers, at least two. Both of those have been long gone. It looks like BHFM is adding self checkout, the registers are installed and have sat there 2 years !?!? Still not open. With skyrocketing grocery prices and the competition in the area BHFM management needs to wake up. The outside isn't looking its best either. I hate to write this, but come on BHFM !!! Yes, there are some good deals, especially specials, but they are no where near the quality / price of Whole Foods or Dekalb Farmers Market. The same for H MART, I want competitive pricing and quality products, as a local, the "novelty" effect means nothing to me.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way... This has been my farmers market ever since I moved to Atlanta 10 years ago. What keeps me coming back isn't just what they have--it's who they have. The staff here has always made me feel like family. Whether it's the sweet gentleman who cuts the fresh pineapple, the gentleman preparing fresh coconut water, or the ladies at the checkout counters, everyone is consistently warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Those interactions may seem small, but they're a big part of why I continue to return year after year. Of course, the selection is incredible as well. This is where I buy most of my fresh fruit, a lot of my meat, and--let's be honest--my desserts too. Speaking of dessert, there is one item I absolutely have to mention: the fruit tart. I've tried fruit tarts from all over, and I can honestly say this market has my favorite one. Every single year, it's become my birthday tradition to pick one up, and I look forward to it just as much as the celebration itself. It really is that good. One thing I've always appreciated is the consistency. No matter which part of Georgia I've lived in over the past decade, I've continued making the drive because I know exactly what kind of experience I'm going to have every time I walk through the doors. A couple of helpful tips if you're visiting for the first time: * While the parking lot can look busy, I've almost always been able to find a space. You may have to park a little farther away, but a few extra steps are well worth it. * Also, be sure to come prepared--this market accepts debit cards or cash only, so credit cards aren't accepted. There are plenty of farmers markets around Atlanta, but this one has always felt like home to me. Between the incredible selection, consistently fresh products, and the kindness of the people who work here, it's a place I'll continue returning to for years to come.

This market is overwhelming...in a good way. Fresh seafood, seasonings, wine, liquor, fruits and…read moreveggies from other countries, pastries, ready-to-eat meals, oils, snacks, magic cooking options--you name it, they most likely have it! Parking is easy with the big lot. It's just getting in and out of the lot.
