I had a really good experience with McCardel when they came out to provide an estimate on some mold damage in my basement. Nick explained the cause really well so I could understand what it would take to repair the issue. He provided several different options explaining the pros and cons and prices really well. I appreciate how much detail he gave me and the time he spent making sure I understood everything. As a new homeowner, I found the experience with McCardel really good. They'll definitely be one of the first places I call when I need restoration work. They do charge an estimate fee ($150 at this time) but I think that's probably a sign of a good company that provides thorough estimates. I feel like I got my money's worth with the estimate and I can roll the cost of it into my project. read more

Someone came out for an estimate on redoing/sealing the flash on a leaking window frame. Paid $150 for this and was told that it would go towards the repair, had to call them a week later to get an update on the project. Two weeks after that, I am finally called and told they can seal the window frame for $250 but my deposit will not go towards it. Now I'm doing it myself and am out $150. Do not call them. read more

The worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. They are unresponsive. I signed an agreement with them in December and was strung along until May when I terminated the agreement. In 4 months I never saw an estimate, never had an email replied to and was made empty promises of progress whenever I called. The last call I made I asked to speak to the owner and was told the owner would return my call that afternoon. That was two weeks ago. I'm shocked there are individuals with different experiences. read more

Please be aware of this company. They fell over themselves to get into the house and put some fans to dry the basement (we had a pipe burst). Once they had the foot in the door, it was ALL DOWNHILL. They took their drying equipment back along with the check for the insurance deductible (a nice fat sum of thousands of dollars) and we NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THEM. We called them literally a dozen times to follow up on billing and to get an estimate for the restoration work. This spanned a period of 4 weeks from the day they surveyed the basement. In these four weeks, there were ZERO CALLBACKS, ZERO EMAILS, and worse ZERO REPONSES WHEN WE CALLED. We have not had a single conversation with the project manager. Every single time it's the same response, "We/Steve will get back to you." Finally, after a month of waiting and expressing very clear distress at the lack of action, we received a bill with no explanation or apology. The staff in the company does not feel the least bit bothered about giving the customers the run around. But they are super short on patience when listening to what the customer has to say. Finally dumped them and moved on to get restoration work done by another company. BUT there is no winning against these people. The remediation bill came to just a few hundred dollars above the deductible (surprise, surprise). And it seems pretty obvious that they are not interested in restoration work. DON'T GET PLAYED BY THIS LAZY, DISHONEST company. read more

we had a unknown pipe burst in our attic over Christmas weekend...The water ran for two days before bei discovered the mini disaster We reached out to McCardel Restoration and almost immediately,Kelly Mccardel called back.. Their team was on site the next day and set up dryers,heaters,their team removed art work,furniture, valuable rugs, etc..They completely cleaned, filtered air,and stored all items. McCardel Restoration did all negotiations with our insurance company and put our minds at ease! Of course I haven't, that's why I'm contacting you. Instead of just picking up the phone like a reputable business, I'm getting the run-around. Just read another bad review on Angies List. They came out when requested and the job was done properly. However, they charged over $750 for a job that took less than one hour on-site. They charged 2.5 hours each for two people (no idea how much per hour since that information was not provided) and $16 a square foot for tarp (no idea how many square feet since that information was not provided). They did not provide an invoice that specified dollar amounts/sub-totals for anything - they just itemized information and then gave a total. When I asked for clarification, this is what I got: "- hours are accumulated from the time the call comes in until the time my techs leave the office - after hours cost for labor and job initiation are higher - yes it seems high if you just look at it like a foam board was put up and a tarp was applied but once again we are an emergency service company during hours you could have called almost anyone to take care of the work but that wasn't the case" Still no dollar amounts or sub-totals for anything. So, if you hire them, be aware that you will not get any clear information as to why you were charged what you were. I feel as though I was cheated and taken advantage of. Got to love that last sentence of the explanation - yes it seems high...... Frankly, I will never use them again! read more

McCardel was referred to me for mold removal. The initial contact and estimate appointment was good. Vince came on June 11th and gave me more information about our issue and said he would have a quote to me by that night or next day. I received the quote and was in sticker shock but knew that I had to get the work done. McCardel's crew came out on June 20th to get started on the work. We meet the crew in the morning and they got started. The crew never gave us instructions on what to expect or how long the whole process would take. Came home that night to find the affected area quarantined off and with no instruction whether they would be back or if we were allowed into that space. What makes the lack of information worse is the area was my bedroom where all my clothes and personal items are. So, I made contact with my realtor to get some direction and she contacted a mold specialist to get some direction. Come to find out we couldn't access that area for almost two days. The problem with that is I didn't have access to my clothes or personal items which would have been easily take care of if we were told before hand. The 2nd day they came back they sprayed this chemical into the affected area and again with no further instruction left my home smelled like chemicals which was very unpleasant and stung our eye. Again this could have been avoid if we were given notice of what was coming. McCardel came back on the third day to remove the barriers and tape they used to hold up the plastic sheets. Upon removing the tape there was damage done to our walls and ceiling. Paint came off when removing the tape. I was called at work by my father, who meet with the team on that day, telling me that there was damage and we would be contacted by Matt from McCardel to fix the damage and to tell me that the crew couldn't leave me a receipt for the work that was done and it would be emailed to me on the next day. The next day comes and goes no call or receipt. I called and spoke with Matt who went on to tell me that McCardel is not responsible for fixing the damage and would not fix it. However; they would charge us a fee to come and fix the damage they did. I was shocked. Still no receipt! I made a few phones calls and by the afternoon McCardel was sending out Vince to fix the damage. I was told Vince would be out Thursday June 28th (we also provided the paint) between 9:45-10. My husband was going to meet him at the house but had to leave for work so he completed the work and told Vince not to come out. Still no receipt!! On July, I sent Vince a text message reminding him I still didn't have a receipt. I never received a reply or my receipt. I called today, July 11th, at around 10:00 a.m. and spoke to the lady that answers the phone and told her that I need the receipt and I was told that she would email it over right then. Its 5:20 pm and still no receipt. Usually getting a receipt isn't a big deal however; we have sold our home and is required to show proof that we had the issues remediated and paid for. If you need any restoration work done on your home call a different company. I never had so many issues with a company before. If I could give them negative stars I would. read more

Eek, me thinks not. They did a good job at drying out the walls and removing the wet carpet, but after that the service went downhill. Here are the facts: 1. The painter missed most of the back wall of the shelving. I know this because several large splashes of colored wall-paint were on the white shelves. 2. The ceiling was not patched/calked into the adjoining wall. Holes were present at the ceiling/wall seem. 3. The carpet was installed by a sub-contractor. The damaged carpet was top-of-the-line berber in near-new condition. The subcontractor installed berber that appears to be cheaply manufactured as it has pulled in several locations within 20 months. Normal daily wear has resulted in 5 to 10 strands of fabric lifting from the glued base. 4. Probably the most discouraging thing about McCardel Restoration is the dismissive customer service. I felt like I was talking to people who didn't have any concern for my service problems. For example, they said they would look into the carpet problem on 2 occasions, but didn't follow up with me. Considering the number of staff they have, their new truck fleet, and the service I received, I expect that the insurance companies and non-repeat customers are keeping this company afloat. There are other companies who provide the same service in Mid Michigan and I will be researching them the next time I have a flood. read more
