I had broken the key off the key fob and I was in a panic!! I couldn't have been happier with the service I received. I went in with a simple request to have my 3 locks re-keyed so I only had to use 1 key for all of the locks. Did it while I waited and charged me a reasonable price for the work. I returned an hour later cause I had some how managed to jumble the pieces in my 1930s Mortise lock for my front door. Google it, it's your worst nightmare come true. I don't even know how long it took for my knight in shining armor to fix it. I called this company South Penn Lock and Safe to replace and key the 5 exterior doors to our home. We were updating and changing to black and silver hardware. I had ordered all but one doorknob and lock In advance elsewhere. The owner Dana Barnum insisted I come to his shop to select the hardware. He had no black hardware but said he would obtain it before the work was started. This company was asked to bring a single black replacement and they installed a bronze one. Was he too incompetent to distinguish black from brown or maybe he just didn't care? Additionally the technician was 77 years old and repeatedly removed his mask while working inside our home. Though they estimated $300 the actual bill was more than $500. The technician did manage to don the mask when presenting the bill. When we called Dana about the brown doorknob he said "it's the best I can do". We are hiring another locksmith to return and replace the brown set with a black one. read more

I needed to make a duplicate of my ignition key after losing my whole set of keys. Knowing that the dealer would charge a premium and needed a scheduled appointment for service, I used Yelp to locate a locksmith. South Penn was convenient to my house. I have a set of French doors and the outside handle was falling off. The spindle inside looked in pretty bad shape. I called South Penn and they gave me a quote to come out but suggested, if I was able, to bring in the piece for them to look at along with pictures of the door. Woody and John were extremely helpful. They looked at the photos and each piece for the door, found a new spindle, trimmed it down. In five minutes, I was on my way and confident I would be able to fix my doors. Everything worked great. I called back to let them know it all worked and settle up for the new spindle. They have great ratings, but in my case, didn't live up to them. I was quoted $150 to re-key three locks over the phone. Two technicians came to do the work. They suggested installing new lock on mailbox, which I agreed to. $15 was quoted for the mailbox lock. The third lock was for a security door, either front or back. The back only required one lock to be re-keyed. He said he couldn't do it. The front security door required two re-keying, one inside and one outside, so the technician said. Changes in pricing were not quoted, so I expected $!50 + $15 for mail box lock. Lo and behold, a $100 fee for coming to house, labor for installing mailbox key and additional re-keying charge for both inside and outside security door. $150 escalated to $263, minus the $100 fee I disputed with dispatcher. I emailed owner about discrepancies in price, but never received a reply. The security door lock change was requested simply for simplicity of using one key. I would never have had requested it for $30. It was exorbitant, and totally unwarranted. I believe the the back door lock could have been re-keyed, but front was chosen to pad the bill. A labor charge for mail box installation was never quoted upfront either. It probably took about three to five minutes to do, and didn't warrant a labor charge. I felt the bill was padded unnecessarily, and that prices changed somewhat arbitrarily. Work was acceptable, but if honesty in pricing is questionable, then the security of re-keying also becomes questionable. I chose them because of their ratings and thus, more honest, but not so. read more

My Husband hired these guys and they are wonderful, the best of the best!! They were fast and friendly and very polite. I have been to the store too and Woody is so friendly and amazingly smart. I normally don't post reviews but after reading the Steve T. review I asked a few of the guys at the shop what happened. Supposedly Steve ordered so custom parts and then backed out of the deal leaving south Penn Lock to cover the bill. The owner, Dana is friendly unless you piss him off which it sounds like Steve did, then Dana can be extremely unfriendly. The Prices are fair, not great but when you hire these guys you know your get it done right the first time and that in the long run will save you some cash. For example house keys are $3.00 which is a bit high but I have never had a key from there not work. That's not the case with Home Depot and Walmart, every time I try to save a few cents by going to a big box store the keys never work. South Penn is also not hurting for business, I have herd South Penn Lock and Safe does all the lock work for WaWa, Acme Markets, Walmart, Game Stop, Star Bucks, Victory Secret, and many more. All these companies trust their lock work to South Penn Lock and Safe Company, and so should you. Don't waste your time or money going to the other guys in the area!! read more
