flavor is amazing and is great the way it is however the texture was a bit more on the soggier side not that crispy of a pickle.

I am with Neil. These pickles are really overpriced. Quality yes but damn. I still prefer my new dill faves from elsewhere but for all other varietals these are a great choice. Garlic and spicy especially. The bloody mary mix makes my parents very happy and although I rarely drink them myself I do really enjoy them made with this mix. For Michigan made they certainly do not take into consideration the Michigan economic status. I still eat them, just not as frequently as I would at a better price point. read more

I have to admit, I don't usually go for pickles. I mean, I like them! Don't get me wrong! But I don't usually crave pickles or get that excited about the prospect of one. But if they're in front of me? Sure. I'll crunch on one! But McClure's? That's a whole other ball game. Their pickle game is STRONG. I do actively seek out their garlic dill variety and can happily devour a whole jar easily. And their relish on a dog fresh from the grill? Game changer. Bloody Mary mixes? They've got them. And those pickle potato chips? My favorite sandwich side. The best! Love that they're local. Love that they're so good. Don't always love the price but the jars are huge and the quality is strong. These are some of the best pickles... It's operated by two brothers: one makes them in Detroit and the other in Brooklyn... I've had both, they taste close but I think I like the Brooklyn ones are slightly better. And maybe I'm crazy. We started pickling our own pickles in an attempt to replicate them. (we came realllllly close, but have consistency issues batch to batch so it's hit or miss) I sent them an e-mail convincing them they need to sell them in Chicago... now they do! (I'm not saying it was all my idea... I just like to think that!) Though at $12 a jar here they're a bit pricey, I will say that! They also sell a mcclure's relish here now.... I had never seen this anywhere else. i bought some and it's pretty good, but I like the pickles as is! Update: Whole Foods in Chicagoland now carries them... and they're cheaper there than anywhere! $7/jar. read more

Spicy foods are not usually something that I go for, but McClure's Pickles make me want to change my whole line of thinking (or eating..whatever). I've been to numerous Pickle Parties at Black Lotus (you gotta come to one - they even raffle off jars of the little green spears for those finding their wallets a little thin these days); pickle samples, good friends and tasty brews from the Black Lotus... what more could you ask for.... A big cheeseburger (in paradise... or Clawson) to go with the pickles (ok, yes, I love Buffett too.) If you haven't gotten a jar to taste, I recommend you do so right away. Full disclosure: I'm addicted to pickles and need to see a therapist. :-) I LOVE pickles... like the kind of love where I'll crack open a new jar, eat all the pickles in one sitting and then drink most of the juice. So McClure's seems right up my isle! I actually received my first jar of the garlic ones from my wife who worked at Westborn. Not going to lie, these are some really dang tasty pickles! There are two things that prevent McClure's from getting 5 stars from me. $10 for a jar? In the amount I eat pickles in... not a chance. I'd spend my kid's college fund in a couple of weeks. :-) If they were cheaper, I'd buy them a lot more. But at $10 a pop... I think I get two jars a year. One for Christmas and one for my b-day. Second thing is I tend to like pickles a little more crisp and crunchy like Clausen. McClure's are just a little too limp/squishy for my personal taste. Overall, a great pickle and a more crisp cheaper version would have them rocking 5 stars instead of 3. read more

Absolutely crap. They taste like a frog drenched in formaldehyde from the 4th grade. I first saw them on the food networks "Best Thing Ever" and decided to try for myself. I can honestly say that it was nothing but product placement. If you want a good pickle then get a jar of Claussens. If you want a great pickle then go to Milwaukee and pick up a jar of "Milwaukee's kosher dill midgets". I'm not from Milwaukee but have a couple of friends who have family there. Every time they visit we eagerly request at least 3 jars of "Milwaukee's kosher dill midgets". McClure's pickles lack snap factor, crunch effect, and overall flavor. I'm not joking when I say formaldehyde. "Brooklyn * Detroit" you can keep your "4th grade dissection project tasting" cucumber snack. Consumers..... Don't drink the "Food Network" red Kool Aid. First there's the Crunch... Crisp Tangy Garlic Dill Then it registers: DEEEELICCCIOUUUSSSSS These pickles are quality with a capital Q! Just look at the jar. Those pickles are not sitting in yellow salty processed/dyed juice. NO WAY. They're in a wonderful combination of real flavors that come from cloves of garlic, sprigs of dill, and if you have the spicy version little red peppers. I personally like the non-spicy version best, but both great. I tried the mustard and quite liked that too. So far so good McClure's....keep it up! read more

They had a stand at Earth Day in Rochester, MI, but my first bite was at another booth. One of the organic farmers served hamburgers with the garlic relish. After trying it I had to have my own jar, but McClures was out of it for the day (they said the organic hamburger guy bought them out). I made a special trip the next day for the relish, and picked up a jar of the bloody mary mix while I was at it - really, really spicy and delicious. So I ate a whole jar of the spicy pickles in a little over a day. I'm not even a huge pickle fan but damn these are good pickles. I have to say my pickle adventure was somewhat unique. I read the reviews here on Yelp about these pickles and my wife and I often make excursions states side for some different shopping, eating, etc. Well this weekend I thought I'd do a little research and try a few different things instead of the same old we usually do. One of the things I found were the hugely positive reviews of McClure's Pickles and I thought "Hey, let's stop in there and get some pickles!". So... first thing to mention is that the address for McClure's pickles on Yelp is the factory address. They don't have a storefront. I arrived at their factory a bit confused and wondering if it was just some strange storefront with no windows and the letter Q as their designation. My wife yelled out the window to knock on the door so I did and one of the owners opened up. I can only say that I was so impressed and thankful that this guy actually took the time to bring me in to his office area and find a place close by that sell the pickles. He even took the time to call the store and make sure they were in stock. He offered to sell me a couple jars but I didn't have cash on me at the time. Not only are the pickles fantastic but the owner was gracious, understanding and extremely helpful. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could. The only bad part is that whole foods only had 3 jars of the spicy kind (we bought them all). Now I'm already 1 jar short =( I really want to try the garlic kind as well... these pickles will definitely become one of the regular things we buy when we make our states-side treks! When you grow up in Detroit, you're exposed to REAL pickles, for me, it's pickles from Jewish deli's. That's my point of comparison. Good jarred pickles is extremely hard to come by and McClure's falls short along with the rest. Now, if you're comparing McClure's to Vlasic or the standard pickle when you get a sandwich at any restaurant, it's far better than those. However, when you compare it to a Jewish deli pickle, sorry McClure's, I'm not wasting my money. By the way, wasting lots of money. They are too expensive for the lack for what you get. To get a good pickle, you should be able to choose, New Dill or Old Dill. That's when you know you are going to get something good. They do have a nice crunch and garlicky flavor, but just doesn't make it as my favorite. If you can't get to a deli to pick up old or new dills, then pick up a jar of Topor's pickles. It is THE closest to a real Jewish deli pickle I have found. read more

I don't typically buy pickles from a jar so I don't really have a point of reference as to how much they should cost. When I first came across these pickles at the Birmingham Farmers' Market, my first impression was that the price seems a little steep for a jar of pickles, but that thought only lasted for seconds until I was given a sample. These pickles are quite incredible and put the ones from Zingermans to shame. The peppers and dill and garlic and brine are also all amazing and we easily consumed the entire jar with no waste left. I'm an 'old' dill fan at heart. I love that dark pickle, with that pungent sour kick. These are not those. I like to call them 'new dills' which I first heard from a deli were you got both styles with your sammich. For new dills, McClure's hits the spot! They have a great snap, and an awesome heat profile. On a nice summer day I'll enjoy these day or night. Along side a fridge bologna sandwich all the better. McClure's Pickles was created in the heavens to enhance any grilled cheese sandwich eating experience. Those spicy pickles are literally the best pickles on the planet. They are some of the freshest tasting pickles I have ever had and trust me, I have had a lot of pickles in my day. They definitely have a nice kick of heat to them, but they are not obnoxiously hot like the Spicy Clausen ones. The juice definitely make for great Pickleback shots, if that is your thing. Some complain about price, but if pickles are your guilty pleasure, I say go for it, it's totally worth it. I could not find a better way to support Michigan businesses other than McClure's, they are out of this world, heavenly in fact. read more

Finally found them at Oliver T's in Grand Blanc. They are the closest thing to Grandma K's refrigerator pickles I've ever had. Vinegary, garlicy, dilly, crunchy, YUM! Last week I heard about McClures and, being a pickle lover, I had to try them. I picked up a jar of the Dill & Garlic Spears and they were absolutely delicious. Notice I said that they 'were' delicious - they were gone instantly! They so much reminded me of the pickles my mom made when we were kids. I crave these pickles non-stop. I think I have a serious addiction. I eat these almost everyday and keep them stocked in my pantry. The McClure's spicy juice is on another level of goodness! It's so good that when I'm done with my pickles I pickle other things in it. Pickle carrots and watermelon in your leftover juice and you will not be upset! I'm surprised the company doesn't pickle other items besides pickles. My favorite is the McClure's spicy pickles that come whole. They are much crunchier and better than the spears. Bloody Mary Mix? I would call it red pickle juice... the taste of the pickle juice overpowers the four other spices added to the recipe. I diluted the mix with V8 juice (4parts v8 : 1part mix) and it was still to much vinegar for me. I will never stray from my favorite brand - Red Eye - again. read more

After hearing how great these pickles must be, I had to order some. I only purchased a couple 2lb jars, because I wasn't sure how they would be, and I didn't want to waste a bunch of money, since these are shipping from MI to WA state where I live. I ordered the dill/garlic pickles. They arrived overnight, which is the only way they ship them.. so for a flat price of $10 + $11.99 per Jar (x 2), the total was like $35 shipped... So, not cheap at all. After the build up with all the reviews out there and the TV shows, I must tell my opinion on these things. The crunch factor was decent, I mean it had some snap, but was also a bit "mushy" as well. The dill was there, definitely but the garlic was missing. Maybe its just me, but I really didn't get that much garlic notes at all from my jars. Tasty pickles, but very overpowering on the "vinegar" type brine they used.. In fact, I had several other people try a slice, and they all stated, WOW that is some seriously sour vinegar pickles. Conclusion: Would I order these again? Probably not. I can't justify the cost to get them to me across the country, and the pickles really didn't knock my socks off at all. Yes they are good, but I've had just as tasty, and less sour pickles right here in Seattle. Overall I am a bit disappointed with my purchase. I was really hoping to get that "BAM!", or "WOW!" factor on these things, and it fell short for the money I spent. for years, i've proclaimed bubbie's bread & butter chips (found at whole foods) to be unrivaled, irresistible, heaven-sent slices of goodness. in my eyes, bubbie's pickles were the tastiest on the planet. then i discovered mcclure's pickles at the birmingham farmer's market. bubbie was knocked off her throne. the brine is mcclure's wheelhouse. whole cloves of garlic, peppercorns, fresh sprigs of dill and other spices are packed in the jar along with the spears. brightly colored peppers accompany the spicy variety. the label suggests that their brine makes an excellent marinade. i suggest you pour a dash of the brine in your next bloody mary. you'll be glad you did. delectable! read more

Talked to the owner/creator of this fine pickle maker for a little while at Eastern Market in the big D. Needless to say if you have had his pickles, it's almost like joining an underground, fan based, affixation with vinegar, salt, and garlic soaked cucumbers! I love them, and am a huge fan of pickles, so I know my stuff. The regular were my favorite, but if you want and like more of a kick try the hot shots! Without a doubt, these are the best pickles ever. I can't put my finger on exactly why they are better than the rest, but trust me- they are. I bought some at Smorgasburg in Brooklyn, then tracked down some more in Whole Foods in NJ. I think they are seasonal, though. Now I see you can order them from Amazon, too. Can someone post the recipe for making more pickles in the brine? Is it as simple as immersing some kirbies and waiting a few weeks? read more
