They have the most amazing and authentic Polish foods from meat to torts and candy. A large variety of tea and pierogi.

I do not get to this place often, especially now that I moved to Maryland. This is the only place I have ever found that stocks Chicken Hunter Sausage. It is delicious!!! I only buy a pound at a time as I have a problem pacing my consumption. They also have a very good selection of dill pickles from Poland. The better the pickles, the better the dill pickle soup. They have a huge selection of all kinds if things from Poland, actually. Great chocolate. I also picked up salmon this time. I am apprehensive to buy salmon anymore as more often then not it doesn't taste good. This is salmon from any store... anyway, the salmon I bought was, by far, they best I have had in a while. I will continue to make sure I get in a visit each time I return to Michigan. read more

Room. Of. Meat. Yep. They've got one. It's a pretty big, refrigerated (bring a sweater if you're stocking up) and full of pre-cut, pre-packaged meat for the buying. Cuts range from smaller to massive and they're priced REALLY well. If you need something smaller the butcher can also hook it up, so never fear. They've got your standard Polish goods--smoked meats (their ham is really effing good), jarred herring, pureed beets, chocolates (prepacked or in bulk), baking supplies, etc. All at decent prices. Also they've got a small section of body care and holistic medicines up front by the cash register. I'll stock up on their calming syrups sometimes. They've basically got all the staples represented in some form or another. Although their bakery section is pretty small and awkwardly placed. The space is really narrow, however. The aisles and the check out area in particular. It's kind of hard to navigate when you've got a cart and other folks have a cart. The dairy section is also lacking and not always super fresh. While they still have a good selection of meats and such it's just not a one stop shop for me. It used to be our go to shop in the area but for some reason, the last few years showed a drop off in stock. Can't exactly put my finger on it. I just remember this place as being BETTER. So these days we just pop in if we need ham or a cut of meat cos they've got that on lock! read more

I love a lot of things about this place but OMG the atmosphere in here is just horrible. I have witnessed screaming matches between staff members on the floor. It's embarrassing. That said, the meat is very good and at a good price. I wouldn't come here if I had a more professional option so close to home. But I don't so I do. I just cringe a lot while I'm shopping. I sometimes walk in the door and see one of those ladies and turn right around and walk back out. There are a couple of ladies who work there who somehow manage to rise above and they have kept me coming back in but wow, it's really dicey. read more

Edited Review: So the owner apologized for the spoiled soup. In my previous review, I expressed that the Meat Department looked better than ever (except for this past week dealing with that replacement butcher), Bill and his assistant, Lee, does a fantastic job and I still will always recommend all special cuts to be done at Bozeks by these two. The deli counter (and some new faces) is an improvement because I always hated the downed frowns everyone had. Overall, Bozeks retains their 4-stars Just make sure the boxes in the aisles are cleared so that two shopping carts can get through, this still needs to improve. read more

All the meat you'll ever need! I'm not a huge meat-eater, but occasionally like to buy some specialty items for certain dishes. Recently, I was pleased to find smoked turkey wings there (chopped into manageable pieces) for making collard greens. Unlike other Hamtramck groceries, their ice cream is as it should be, not half-melted and covered in ice chunks. They have a nice selection of bakery items (poppy seed danish is soooo good) and a super cheap hot food bar with all your Polish standards. There is an entire aisle filled with sauerkraut and pickles, and they have like 50 flavors of kefir. There's a good selection of Polish and German beers, and the produce department covers all the basics. If you see the peanut Lion candy bar in the check out, BUY IT. Best candy bar ever. There is one downside to Bozek which other folks have mentioned: items can sit on the shelves past their expiration dates. I once bought a bag of Polish Cheeto-like things, which were completely rancid. Who knew even processed snack foods go bad? read more

I really do like this place most of the time, but they've been sort of slacking with the Meat warehouse lately. Not as good cuts of meat as there were right after the renovation. They seem to have a little problem blaring rap music most times I'm in there which is a major turnoff but that's just me. I'd rather hear a good old polka anyway to make it more homey. Not too thrilled with having huge chunks of pork in what was labeled Potato Soup, which would have been resolved if they listed the ingredients as other stores do. All in all, you get some bad with the acceptable as is the way with most of Hamtramck. This is the best place for grocery shopping in the city though. revision: Just went there after work for skim milk, which is very scarce in this town and all gallons are set to expire in three days. I spoke with a neighbor while in there as well and she stated a LOT of their items have expired and are sitting around. Look, just because we are close to Detroit does not mean that grocers and the like should be allowed to slack like this. Modify your system and look around you. People will stop going to this store if it doesn't shape up. It could be great, but it's just not. Try not to turn into yet another avoidable grocery store. Stand out in the crowd and take some pride! We deserve FRESH options just like the 'burbs. read more

The mother of meat themed grocers, the bacon ends from this place have changed me as a person. Great selection of eastern European and German foods to go along with the polish. The walkin meat locker makes Handels messiah chorus sound of in my brain. read more

I love this store. I love the fact that we can now buy meals at this store -- nice selection of hot Polish foods, VERY reasonably priced. I watch for their flier for specials in the meat walk-in. If I find something outstanding, I let my Mom know; then we buy up and split it. Bought tenderloin there that way at some ridiculously low price, and the butcher cut it to order free. (The meat was "choice," not "prime.") You do need to watch freshness in the milk case. Also, I wish they would get a particular brand of low-fat choco milk. Still, it's a great place to shop. I had a minor Pazcki day fail... again. All the bakeries had insane waits, like 2 hours... but I needed the damn paczki. NEEDED. So I went here, again, to get my cheater pazcki... again. Unfortunately, this year was a disappointment. They were cheap on the egg yolks, made them the day or night before (on the stale side), and did NOT have brandy in them. What the hell happened? Economy that bad? But damn, that somewhat stale industrial made custard filled paczki was one of the best sugar fixes I've had in a long time (3 stars for the paczki -- there are been better, there are much worse). The rest of the store is pretty clean. I really like their walk in meat case area. But I was confused when it came to the hot food, it had so many different prices for the different items... that weren't labeled. I was so confused. The meat counter itself had a lot more traditional Polish cheeses than Polish Market, but less variety when it came to the smoked goods. The kabanosy was not good -- it had no snap to it. So, why the 2 star rating? I was stoked when I saw they had their own line of pierogi -- which is something not a lot of places do anymore. So I bought a package to have for dinner... but all of the pierogi were like seriously iced together. I took a HAMMER to these suckers to get them apart. What is worse, is it looks like they were dried out or sitting in the freezer for a long time, because (even before taking to them with a hammer) the dough was all cracked. This caused MASSIVE pierogi hemorrhage! 1. Freeze the pierogi on a sheet before packaging them together -- or else they stick. 2. Add some more eggs/water to the dough. I came in and ordered a 7 lb brisket for NYE. I was assured it would arrive on 12/30 and be ready for me to pick up on 12/31. Surprise -- they didn't order the brisket! The boss of the meat market decided that he would order it today for Saturday. Gee, thanks. No main course for my dinner party tonight. Happy New Year! I won't be back. Ever. Rotten meat being sold for years. We went there hopping this store had changed it's filthy was. No it did not. Now on local news channel for all to see. This market would have to fire all it's workers, close down and try to open by being customer confidence. I don't see that happening. Driving eastbound along Caniff, I missed my left hand turn onto Joseph Campau. Hoping all was not lost, I turned into a parking lot of a building with a neat striped red and white awning. I had passed the building many times before, but since I'm not Polish, I figured the store wasn't for me. My wife reminded me that the store is at a former Cattlemen's location, so we headed straight for the meat locker. We scored the most beautiful chicken leg quarters at a killer price - and none of that black stuff you find in not-so-fresh chicken. The rest of the meats looked pretty good too. I can't speak for the pork, since I refuse to eat it. The prices throughout the store were surprisingly reasonable - deli, condiments, produce, groceries, canned good, pastries - you name it. They have just enough exotic ingredients to get me in trouble if i watch too much Food Network. When I go back, I plan to browse the selection of Polish magazines. I will have to look a the pictures, since I don't read Polish which is pretty important at Bozek's. Their help wanted sign said that the cashier needed to speak English and Polish. Since I had two nice bags of chicken parts I was not too offended. I got home and braised my chicken (skin removed) in butter, with onion and garlic, plus a little bit of Rosemary. The flavor was awesome, if I say so myself. And I owe it all to Bozek's - and to Food Network. read more

I'd give this place 5 stars, but as someone mentioned above the backroom meat section is lacking a little bit. The Deli section is very good however. I've often said one of the best Polish restaurants in Hamtramck is at the little room in the back of Bozek's. It's obviously a takeout, but their warm food is fantastic. This is the place to shop for food in Hamtramck. It has everything you need, and nothing you don't. Meat -- they have a walk-in freezer full of everything you could need for either a cook-out or a Sunday dinner. Fresh -- fruits and veggies, they have them. The selection isn't Holiday Market-quality, but they have the basics and then some. Deli -- All kinds of cheese and meats, super cheap! Pantry -- Forget Kraft mac and cheese, ramen noodles and all that other crap. If you want food fast try instant potato pancakes, Polish soup mix and other unique and fast options Booze -- Polish wines, bizarre imported beer, regular domestic bottles, and more. Quite a variety for such a small store. Authentic -- They have fresh and frozen perogi of all kinds, plus other kinds of frozen meals from fish to veggies. read more

Huge selection of everything Polish: meat, cheese, bread, candy, beer, wine, etc. Everything except for liquor (I may be wrong, but I have never seen any there). You name it, they have it. If you're looking for Polish food and can't find it here then you can't find it anywhere in America. Service is OK, not bad, but not really proactive to help out. read more

The quality of meat has gone down...you can never catch the butcher to have meat cut or ask for a piece of meat not available on the shelf...When you can catch the butcher there and ask for a piece of meat cut you cannot see him cutting your meat...like Cattleman's you watch them cut your meat.... Now the Polish dills.....I bought one of the polish dills pickles BIG DOWNFALL they leave them all open where anyone can sneeze etc on them... well i bought one and i got so sick almost had to go to the hospital...i was sick all day vomiting it was terrible.... We bought some buns recently and they were day old...NOT FRESH.... Came in from the Bozeks of S. Heights due to bad quality pork chops. This butcher APOLOGIZED on behalf of the other butcher (S. Heights) and assured me by cutting my order of Sirloin Steaks. WHAT A BIG DIFFERENCE in customer service! I bought another package of pork chops and some lamb, kielbasa from the Deli counter (WHICH is another great story!) and was on my way. I am done with Bozek's market. Just had the worst customer service experience. I was asking a question to a clerk, and the manager interrupted to berate him loudly and publicly. Then she pulled him away without even acknowledging we were in the middle of a conversation. When I tried to check out, she was on the register. She sat there eating lunch for a while before getting up to cash me out. Just glaring at me and eating. She was rough with my groceries and even spilled some of my food. How dare I interupt her lunch. She was so rude. I asked if she was the owner and told me she's the manager.  goodbye Bozek's, hello Al Haramine. They get 2 stars because the clerk was being helpful before the manager ruined the experience. The manager is a blonde woman, I think other reviewers have had similar bad service from her. Seems the market won't fix the problem, so we'll have to complain by taking our money elsewhere. read more

GREAT PLACE I drive 30 plus minutes to get there, and I am not the only one. Deli is great and the meat department is very good. The bucher is like the rest of the help. They all are very helpful and very nice. I found this place through a EMS partner I was working with. The hot food is good. I had never been to a Polish store and the help was very helpful to edeucate me. The PRICES ARE SUPER GREAT ON ALL THER GOODS LIKE HALF PRICE OF THE BOX STORES. I am single and I buy in bulk. I can eat steak for nearly the same a burger. If ydou have a large family get the full uncut bulk meat and have it cut up for free. Produce is also cheaper and the deli check thier specials. Corned Beef at 3.99 a pound. Cheese 2.99 lb. Just examples. Go enjoy a truley ethnic place and save money on a quality products. read more
