This review is going to be somewhat hard. I'm a Wayne state grad (many years ago anyway) so when my wife mentioned this place I said let's go try it. We went on a Saturday so the limited parking wasn't a problem but I'm sure that during the weekdays parking close would be a consideration. The menu has many choices so finding something you like shouldn't be hard as long as you want a potato base. Place was small with only a few tables (several carry outs while we were there eating). The food was made in a timely manner and all ingredient's that were fresh. Food also has a nice visual presentation. Food came in a plastic box so taking leftovers home was a breeze. Food had good taste and a generous portion size. OK, I'm saying all these good things, why no 5 stars? It just doesn't seem to meet that standard. Personally I thought it was a novel idea to try a jazzed up potato and it was, but going back, well I don't think I'll make the trip. If you're looking for a novel fast food meal with friendly service and fresh ingredients in a generous portion go here. If you're looking for a more sit down family type of meal go elsewhere. So you see my dilemma, there is nothing to ding this place for. It's a solid value but just isn't my cup of tea. Would I recommend this place? Sure, with the understanding of just what it is and no more. Clean fast friendly service fresh food ingredients presented well with a novel twist but I would suggest that they try putting some beans and/or chile over the potato's. Go ahead give this place a try for yourself. See if you think it's worth 5 stars.

Might be a year since I've been here. Items have been removed. Items have been added. Potatoes are still huge! I placed an online order that was ready before I left the house so by the time I got it, it was room temp. In my memory, 1 free daisy tube of sour cream came with the purchase, but there was no sour cream. (You have to request.) I asked for garlic butter but the potato & fillings must have absorbed it all & i eat SO much garlic in my own cooking, that regularl amounts don't stand out. Although, the potato was potato dry (not enough butter to moisten) Brownie is very good. Caramely, chocolatey, and soft. All things considered, still a spotI enjoy humongous stuffed potatoes

I wanted to try this place for some time and finally got to! The potato did not disappoint! Loss of stars because there's no fountain soda, only bottled or Koolaid. The koolaid just wasn't that good. The place is very small with few seats and there's only street parking. I wouldn't go to Detroit for it but if you're in the area and like baked potato's try it!

Two weeks ago some friends and I were taking about what kind of restaurant we would open if we could. I said I'd open a stuffed potato bar. This week, there was a make your own stuffed potato restaurant! I may have gone overboard, adding ham, bacon and salmon with my broccoli and cheese sauce but OMG it's so yummy!!! I couldn't eat it all at once, ado I've got food for a while lol

When I was a student at Wayne state I went to the potato place several times a week. I haven't had a potato from here in at least 15 years. I was driving in the area and decided to give them a try. The first thing I noticed in the upgraded interior(again I haven't been here in 15 years). They have big screens with images of the most popular items and the full menu. I ordered the house potato (chicken, bacon and broccoli) with mixed cheese and garlic butter. The cashier told me it would be about a 10 min wait so I went to sit in my car. I received a text when my order was ready (less than 10 mins) and couldn't wait to get home to eat. The potato was as large as I remembered but I feel it used to have more butter and cheese. I added sour cream when I got home and was immediately taken back to my college years. I'm glad to see the quality has not declined.

The service was fast. I ordered online and it was ready at the estimated time. It was fresh & hot. Steam came from the container as soon as you opened it. The potato was a very good size. All the toppings were correct and at the top. Garlic butter melted inside the potato. Im pleased. It could've been a little more chicken but i still got nice & full. The lady at the register was happy and well mannered.

Clean and updated inside, very friendly, fast service and delicious huge loaded potatoes. They're not open late, but you want this when you come home from the bar! Order you one at closing time and put it in your fridge for later - it heats up so well. We had the meat lovers and the chicken Cajun one - both were so yummy. Go to here.

We stopped in here after walking around the Wayne State campus as it is right across the street. The place is very clean (even the bathrooms) and we had great service. (Even had full size ice waters.) I had a potato with chicken, broccoli and bacon (a d a side of ranch.) The potato is huge and it was nice and hot. It was good but I would probably order something else next time. My hubby had the chili. I thought it was good, he thought too tomatoey (but that is a personal thing.) All in all I will come back.

Great place for a baked potato with more toppings than you could ask for!! Enough for two meals!

The Potato Place is okay for a takeout lunch. Some of the potatoes on the menu range in price from $10 to 16. Pretty overpriced for a large baked potato with inexpensive toppings like bacon bits and freeze-dried chives. The restaurant is around Wayne State University and it is really difficult to find free parking. If you manage to find free parking you will have to walk around the block. There are better places to eat in the area but if you are craving a lot of carbs, cheese, and butter this might be a decent option.

    Philly Steak Supreme Potato

We ordered Lunch through Door Dash today. I ordered the Philly Supreme Cheesesteak Potato. Funny it didn't look like a Philly Cheesesteak on a potato, with all that broccoli. It more like mixed vegetables with cheddar cheese . Don't let me start on the firm chunks of beef some with fat attached. I was looking for tender thin slices of meat , that wasn't there either. Yeah, I was underwhelmed by this lackluster meal. It was also on the dry side. For a potato this size you'll need to use quite a bit of butter to help keep it moist. I think the quality has went down and the price has risen with this place. I really didn't want Potato Place because the last time I had it, I didn't enjoy it . Sometimes you must take one for the the team. They can definitely do better in the future with the quality, taste and presentation of their food especially if they going to charge you an arm. Oh yeah you're going to pay extra for butter, sour cream ect.. especially if it don't come on it. Im not saying don't give it a try, I just would prefer better quality even if its as simple as topping on a potato.

From their cakes and cookies, to their parfaits and macaroons, everything just hits. On a most recent visit, I tried their biscoff parfait and it was a show stopper. It was hard for me to enjoy my Matilda chocolate cake (though I managed) knowing that I had more biscoff parfait to eat. They do coffee and other assorted beverages as well, but those are just support for the real stars of the show here, their desserts. I cannot say one bad thing I have had here (though a friend of mine says their cinnamon rolls were underwhelming). OVERALL - a great ending to an evening, or a destination unto itself. Get some, now! The cake looked great and had the graham (I might have imagined it), marshmallow, and chocolate flavor elements in each bite, but it ran a bit dry and sweeter than I prefer. I'm in the "less sugar is more" minority, so most people might be fine with it. I guess I should have expected it given the name. The iced matcha latte used decent matcha and tasted light and pleasant, no grit. Inside, it is all pastels and cake themed accents, with the general vibe of "yeah, there are macarons here." The real plus is being near Little Caesars Arena in the newer development area, which makes it convenient for grabbing a treat and a drink while downtown.

One giant raise for her, please, thanks. At least 10 extra dollars an hour. I got the uhhh. Brioche... something. Basically fancy French toast with caramelized apples on top with a really good whipped cream. Super good. Might start caramelizing apples for French toast all the time now. My friend got the duck slow cooked in oil, forgot what it's called. But I tried a piece and it was really good too. Oily, but that should be expected of something submerged and cooked in oil. First time trying duck, and I think it's more fatty than chicken, so that probably contributes as well. Still good though. The lemon financier was good too, reminded me of like a lemon pound cake if you aren't sure if you'd like it.
