Love this adorable market! They had such a great variety of foods and goods! I was bummed that they…read moreclose at noon but i definitely made it a point to go early so i wouldnt miss out!! Everyone was super friendly and i just love supporting small businesses! I am a sucker for baked goods so stopped by 3 bakery booths and everything was so good. Lucias Bakehouse was my number 1, their donuts....omg. I also grabbed candles from the moonlit path, dog treats from PJs jerky and designs and garlic olive oil spread from delizioseaux. I wish i could go back to their holiday market this week, but I'm just in town for the weekend. You definitely have to stop in whether youre just visiting or live in the area. Its dog and kid friendly with a great play area on the other side of the park!

The stars of the show at this medium-sized food and retail market are the live Louisiana French…read moremusic (9 fellas sitting in a circle playing an accordion, harmonica, etc.) and the stunning mossy oak that looms over all of the vendors providing impressive shade. Ample parking can be found in the grass and this market is very dog friendly with water bowls and all. Vendors ranged from artisan wood walking sticks and cookie dough varieties to a bacon booth and vendor specializing in middle eastern eats like tabbouleh, stew and halva (much lighter than the surrounding Southern eats like beignets). Prices were reasonable and there was a fun spirit in the air with free Santa rides on a Gator and trailer weaving its way around the market. The market is open until noon. I'm not certain if this is all year round (we were there the weekend after Thanksgiving). My only regret was not taking home a container of the halva (it's hard to come by in Indiana;).

Correct website address is: https://www.nactx.us/732/Farmers-Market…read more The site listed on Google map's site looks to read in Turkish. Everything else about the Marhet is Great! Has locally very fresh fruit and vegetables, jellies, blueberry bushes, freshly made breads, fruit pies, sour and wheat bread, wines plus someone produces a variety cheeses! Yes really! Go and try it if you like farmers' markets. You'll be impressed.

While this farmers market is a bit on the small side, I found plenty to choose from. Fresh greens…read more(they were so gorgeous!), peaches (snap them up, they go really fast), wine, cheese, fried pies, Japanese bento boxes, Miss Opal's honey, Texadus Farms goat's milk products, beef (yes beef), Grandma's Best baked goods, Stoney-Brook Farm (preserves & they sold blackberry & strawberry plants), spices, squash....and other delicious goodies that I can't remember. My favorite booths were Texadus & Grandma's Best. I bought several bars of the goat's milk soap along with some salves for pain, headache ointmint & lotion bars. The farm is family owned/operated & I had such a great time gabbing with Lynn Jones, mother of the year for raising 8 boys & 3 girls. From Grandma's I purchased several mini-pies (buttermilk, coconut & lemon), a pecan-cheesecake-caramel pie (oh good Lord was that good)& a chocolate chip-cheesecake bar. These sweets were heaven! And A+ for the creativity of combining cheesecake with other desserts. Even though this market is on the small side it makes up for it with the hospitality of the local farmers, ranchers, cheesemakers (blessed are the cheesemakers!), bakers, etc. Drop on by for some good old country hospitality & shooting the sh*t w/the local characters. (some vendors take credit cards!)

Rouses either needs a new IT department in Lake Charles(Nelson) or a totally new computer checkout…read moresystem. My husband and I are in our 70s. We had about $200 of groceries and the one behind us has about $100 maybe more. After unloading onto the belt we were all told "only cash" by the poor cashiers that had that "deer in the headlights" look. This is the second time my husband had this happen in the last few months. Something has to be done or yall lose clientele. Right now we are heading back out but to KROGERS!

I've been gone from the area for a number of years actually more than a few decades so the first…read moretime I saw a Rouse Market here I was just as impressed as I was when they turned the narrow two lane Highway 378 into the massive expressway it is today, for years there were two places to buy groceries in MB there was Market Basket and Sonny's (closed decades ago) which was directly across the street from the now ailing Market Basket who's smoked boudin is legendary and may be one of the few reasons the faithful still trade there - yes it's great there are now choices and even better that there is now competition. Now let me give credit where credits due - Rouses Market is a level above anything in town well at least in Moss Bluff being everyone here still has a Lake Charles address. Oh yea there Walmart Market Place with its parking lot filled 24/7 and then there's Amazon the store that will eventually crush them all as soon as the old touchy feely generation goes to the promise land, but until that time you have to experience a Rouses Market its Louisiana through and through. I mean tell me where you can match the line up I observed today e.g. fried chicken seasoned with crawfish boil seasoning, fresh turtle meat, fresh Louisiana crawfish tails, roux, jars of gumbo, étouffée, shrimp with their head still on and a fricking "king cake" oh yea I could go on and on and on but you get the picture or you just don't care because you stopped in for a loaf of French bread and a Yoo-hoo. I came here looking for something to throw on the grill and found it, the butcher cut me four one inch and a quarter thick ribeyes that any carnivore would crawl through three miles of cypress swamp just to light the grill their cooked on - no seriously these were some serious steaks. But wait one of the things I love about Rouses is that they use "locally sourced" everything when it's available and the quality meets their high standards. If some of this sounds familiar it should for some of you - it's exactly what was said when Market Basket was being built decades ago...
