I have had a blocked ear for 3 weeks after a viral infection, and I am certain prednisone would have worked, as it has perfectly in the past. She took a brief look at my ear and said she wanted "a hearing test". I had one last year with the same results. She then refused to prescribe prednisone (I had stated over the phone that that was why i was coming), and referred several times to my age (76). She stated that "hearing loss is common amongst older patients'' and brushed me off, as if I had come in for a hearing test. I should add that i am a teacher and can hear my students perfectly. I am still in shock from the experience. When I expressed how disappointed I was, she came to the front desk and said, "I can put a tube in your ear if you want".
