The quality of service has gone from excellent to far below par. I hate it when businesses do this and I waited a month before posting to see if there would be a change. Unfortunately, there was a change but for the worst. Each time I visit I pay for sauces I don't receive. That is a form of theft. You guys want to charge for sauces then your employees need to hand them out. In addition, if I order a happy meal there is a 50/50 chance I will not receive the drink with it. If I ask for "no pickles" or "mustard"-which I have to pay for- or any changes there is a higher probability of not receiving my meal as ordered than as ordered. Right now, you guys owe me about 10 sauces from different visits, 3 happy meal drinks, and .20 cents times 5 for each time I didn't receive mustard on my burger. On top of all this the overall vibe I get from employees, mainly those walking food out to the car stalls, is annoyance. Let me explain, your employees come out to the car and practically throw the food at me. This started a few months ago. They're in such a rush and so desperate to give you your food that it leaves you feeling like not returning. I will avoid this McDonalds until management makes changes. We're here visiting from Texas for a few weeks and have been to this location multiple times. The crew is always very friendly and while I'm mostly ordering a coke, service is pretty quick. We've had breakfast here twice now because the husband likes the local deluxe breakfast (spam, Portuguese sausage, rice and eggs) and it's been early so service was quick. The downside to this place is it's filthy. We got here when they opened their doors this morning at 8 am and the floor is so dirty/greasy my feet are sliding around. I don't see a clean table in the place. All this means the restaurant wasn't cleaned last night at close and the floor tells me it's been even longer than that since it was cleaned. read more

I have read many bad experiences from here ranging from forgetting items, cold food, unexpected closing, no walk ins etc. At 6pm we were still able to walk in. They only allow ordering from the kiosks though but if you want to pay cash it prints out a receipt for you to bring to the cashier. After driving for a bit, we realized they forgot our apple pie so we went back and they apologized and gave it to us with no fuss. The McNuggets were usual American McNuggets. Mostly half refried and not juice like the Canadian counterparts I am used to. And all the sauces were just diluted in flavor. Overall, the service is good here although occasional mishaps. There were many workers but maybe they were only working the drive through. We were the only customers inside. There were 'kiosks' with computer screens to place orders. HEY! I'M STANDING RIGHT HERE!. The order screens behind the counter were too small to see and only filled about 1/2 of each screen. Partner got Fish Filet and regular cheese burger, I got double cheeseburger with bacon. Both were OK, good and hot. I ordered a medium fries and got a small envelope, half empty. My partner ordered a small fries and got a small fruit punch. Never been so disappointed with McDonalds. Ever. Very slow service. NO ambiance, no welcoming atmosphere. read more

So weird, our NEW McDonalds in Keaau...the kiosks to order yourself are surrounded by a small table & chairs..everyone in line to order there stand above the poor souls who unknowingly sat down there...not what I want when I go out to eat, to have strangers leaning over my table...coughing, laughing and speaking loudly. PLUS...the screen is always loaded with greasy finger prints and no sanitized wipes in sight! Great way to spread the community germs quickly! It's just a shame how these little things can make such a huge difference!!! Sorry they removed all the beautiful flowers out front not sure why, I thought they really looked nice! Currently the dinning area is under construction (FINALLY!) There are only 2 mcdonalds on Hilo side of the Big Island. One in Hilo and one in Kee'au The lines are long. IF YOU AINT GOT NO PATIENCE GET out OF LINE! YOU NEED TO REMEMBER ITS THE ONLY MCDONALDS IN THIS AREA!!! Since it's been under construction the staff has been INCREDIBLY awesome. My family and I go here at least 3-6 times a week because my mother loves the chocolate chip frappe to da max, like no joke. We stay in the nice line for her frappe haha. Emily (MOD) and her staff have been Incredible with customer service. I say Emily because I've seen her ring up the customers. I kid you not from Sept 21-24th we've been here 5 times just for my mother to have a frappe haha The point is the staff is great! Yikes, this is the worst McDonalds on the island. I can't remember a time when I left feeling satisfied with my order at all, either it being wrong, missing things or things not ever being filled. Not even to mention it takes me at least 20 minutes whether through the drive-thru or in store. Fries are never filled all the way up, last iced coffee drink I got was about 2 inches below being filled, my burger I asked (and PAID) for extra sauce instead came out with "no onions" and no sauce at all. The chicks have a nasty attitude so I just vowed not to come in ever again. I'd rather drive farther to the Puainako one. The (finally) updated inside looks great, but you can't put a wig on a pig and it's all of a sudden beautiful. They really really need to reevaluate their hiring and/or training procedures. Oh and don't even bother contacting corporate. They'll just have the store's manager call you and do LITERALLY nothing except berate you for contacting McDonalds to complain, like I was in the wrong. read more

My Original (3 star) review: You locals should be aware, Hawaii McDonalds rock compared to mainland McDonalds. You are apparently the only place in the nation to still have deep-fried "caution filling is hot" pies. Trust me, the baked pies on the mainland suck! I was having a nostalgic craving for a big mac, so I dropped in here after a buddhist lecture down the street. Guess I probably fail at Buddhism, are they vegetarians?? Anyway, after almost getting slammed by a jacked-up 4 wheel drive Toyota driving through the odd McD parking lot at 50 mph, I made it inside and got a good meal (for a McDonalds, "it is what it is"). The Big Mac actually looked like the one in the commercials, it was picture-perfect. Kudos to whoever assembled that, you have a future in the advertising industry in food styling. The Haupia (cococut) pie was an interesting novelty but a little too much drippy white goo and not enough coconut. My main issue with this place was that it was about 40 degrees... the whole place felt like a walk-in freezer. I complained to the kid taking orders and he just shrugged. My best fast sandwich meal to get is the Quarter Pounder wth Cheese. Although I can still hear Mel Cabang asking "is that with or without cheese?" Sorry, you had to there. You can also get a drink, no matter the size for just $1! Now that's a great deal and if you eat inside, you get unlimited drinks. The day crew honestly isn't that good, they always mess up our orders, not as friendly, and forget items. The night crew on the other hand is great, there's one young gentleman that's always really nice and I appreciate he reads back our order to make sure it's correct (I really like this because the order screen is broken so you can't double check yourself), if it wasn't for that guy I probably would've given 1 star read more

Don't bother using the mobile app at McDonald's. I ordered on the way in and seen that there was one order ahead of me On the screen when I walked I. After they sent out that order I waited and ordered started collecting after mine but were being processed before mine. I was Told by the manager that it depended on what I ordered. I told her it was just a quarter pounder simple. Then she said that orders taken at the register were processed before mobile app orders so even though I ordered it outside in the parking lot I would have to wait after I came in for whoever was at the register place their order and they would fill those orders first so Why am I bothering using the mobile app ahead of time. I had to wait 10 minutes for a simple one burger order because they were taking the orders at the registers and processing them before mine. Last time for me to go to a McDonald's. read more

The Keaau McDonald's app isn't that great. I always have problem ordering in the mornings. At 6:40am the breakfast items isn't available!!! It happens sometimes at lunch where the lunch items isn't available. I don't think it's the app because the Hilo location is available for either the breakfast and lunch items. Something is wrong with the Keaau location, maybe it's the management! This is so frustrating that I have to drive to Hilo today to order from the app! Maybe I need to drive to Pahoa instead of Keaau, hopefully their location will be better! read more

I always stick to the same thing when I come to McDonald's, and usually I go to the Puainako drive thru. Well today I was in the area and I decided to stop and get a quick bite to eat. After driving all day all over the big island on a Sunday we stopped here since we were starving and a lot other places were closed. The service here was okay and they charge you for everything. Its pretty much the same McDonalds menu as other places but I really enjoyed the banana pie, is sort of like their typical apple pie but with sweet smash bananas. After reading the reviews I set my expectations very low for this location, however my experience FAR surpassed these expectations. I have a guilty pleasure for sausage egg and cheese on a biscuit with a hashbrown and often this meal is hit or miss (hard biscuit, not hot, etc). This place NAILED IT. Three of us ordered pretty late at night after viewing lava, we all got different items and every thing was fresh, hot, and exactly what we ordered.
