This place is quite yummy overall. The staff was also really friendly. We had a few samples before i decided on the pumpkin pie flavored gelato. Let me tell you that this was creamy and full of that delicious pumpkin spice fall flavor. Wow wow wow was it fantastic. It was a treat that I devoured. The turkey sandwich was decent. I liked the bread it was served on. The staff toasted it extra like I asked. I enjoyed the crispy edges. I wish it had a pickle and or some slaw. It was 10 a sandwich. We also a cup of vanilla iced coffee that was great. I would definitely recommend the gelato and the coffee. Yum! read more

This is one of my favorite places on the island! They have a nice selection of FRESH foods. You can opt for healthy salads or treat yourself with some pastries or gelato. There are also soups & sandwiches which the menu changes frequently. The people working there are amazing - always polite & helpful even when the line gets long. Some of my favorite things are the portobello sandwich, beet salad, root vegetable salad, chocolate chip cookies, & the affogatos! The coffee is really amazing as well! read more

Glad to find this cute little deli in this small town south of Hilo. Most of the restaurants here are not much to mention, but The Kea'au Deli is pretty cool. It's very tiny and cute, like a food stand but it's indoors and out of the sun. Take out only! Fresh sandwiches and salads (I liked the strawberry walnut salad) and a variety of coffee and tea drinks. I only wish there was a caffeine free option. Also some baked goods for sale. My husband got a breakfast sandwich and cold brew. When I asked him about the taste he said "it's okay". This isn't a glowing review, but for him it's pretty good. Food is excellent. I've enjoyed every savory item I've purchased. The mushroom and onion breakfast croissant sandwich is so good. Every item in the sandwich is seasoned perfectly and it's so filling I can have it for two meals! I do hope they are able to move up from the small toaster oven to heat the sandwiches though. Sometimes the wait can stretch to 20 minutes just because you're waiting for your item to be warmed through. read more

I've been here several times and for me it is hit or miss. It is very small so be prepared to wait outside as the line gets long. In the past I ordered a latte and the prosciutto and egg sandwich. Both were great. The last order left a little to be desired. I got the pork fettuccine. Really big portion, the pork was dry though. The sauce on the overcooked fettuccini is so tart and lemony I could barely eat it. I guess lemon in your fettuccini is a thing but I don't like it, too much. The is the second muffin I've gotten and didn't care for either. Looks fantastic but again too much lemon. Ugg it was raspberry and coconut but what's with the lemon! Maybe because the fettuccini had lemon but they should let you know that these items have lemon. Next time I'd like to try the gelato, but I live about 25 minutes away and it would have melted. I did sample it and that was great. The girl at the cash register is really nice and friendly though, and there is a wide variety of selections. read more

What went well, you ask? Everything about this place and the bakery they are connected with. The sandwiches are all tantalizing and the baked goods impressive. While this isn't an eat in type of place, the fact that it is very laid back with loads of aloha spirit means tables with tablecloths aren't necessary. The takeaway from here is just fine! Went for lunch today and ordered a sandwich that came with a jour dipping both souce, comes in a paper cup with a lid that does not seal and leaks. One would think the employees would be aware of this. However, they packaged our sandwich in a paper bag , on the bottom of the paper bag was the sauce, no warning that it's going to leak. So of course it leaked through the bag all over my clothes and all over my car seat cover. I would think the employees would line the bottom of the bag with a couple of napkins to prevent this accident from happening or simply place the sauce in a plastic bag. It's just pure common sense.....but obviously the girls who work there have none & don't care.. I won't be back, a simple fix, but too much to ask from these dumb girls who ruin it for the nice hardworking owner. read more

This little hole in the wall cafe is so delicious! As tou walk in, you're met by friendly workers that offer suggestions and look as though they enjoy working there. The selection of sandwiches, and pastries is just enough to have choices but not overwhelming with what to choose....although everything looked so yummy it made it a bit hard to pick. I cannot recommend this place enough! My husband and I stopped in today to get some sandwiches and to try some of the gelato and boy, we were NOT disappointed. When I stayed which flavors I had wanted, one of the girls immediately said "wait are you the one who messaged us yesterday?" And I, shocked, said "yessss?" as she ran to the back to grab something while the other girl said "oh we saw your message yesterday and the flavors you wanted were about to run out so we saved you some." Listen, I was floored. What a kind thing to do! On top of those 2 flavors (vanilla + chocolate swirl and chocolate + peanut butter swirl) we also tried double chocolate and dragonfruit sorbet and my god, this gelato doesn't get as much recognition as it should. Creamy as can be and packed with so much yummy goodness. I got a turkey BLT and loved it-the focaccia was amazing. I also got a Lilikoi cinnamon roll and sheesh, if I could have inhaled it I would have. Best icing ever! I need to figure out how to make Lilikoi icing when I bake cinnamon rolls because my tastebuds have been forever changed haha! Big thanks to the two sweetest employees working today and a huge shoutout to everyone who played a part in the food that we ate because it was so yummy. Fantastic little lunch spot, super cute inside & absolutely made me want every single thing on the menu by the display. Loved the gelato, sandwich, & muffin I got. Each ingredient in my ham & brie shined, you can taste each piece on its own, vs a standard sandwich that tastes like overpowering red onion or just bland salty meat. One thing that needs to change is the amount of mayonnaise they put in the breakfast sandwiches! It's smells disgusting & taste disgusting! The bacon sandwich falls apart with all the mayonnaise slapped in it! They should NOT put any mayonnaise in the sandwiches & make it an option on the side because this is a ridiculous amount of mayonnaise to be put into a sandwich. I can't even eat it & now I wasted my money because it's going in the trash. On top of that I have to find something else to eat because I am still hungry. Literally was in there for a minute or less because had to get to work and ran in for some pastries to get my through to lunch. Got my favorite blueberry muffin and a butter criossant both were satisfying and delicious! I believe pastries are from Big Island Bakehouse that is open across from here Fri-Sun. Soooooo if you're in need of some fresh real food go here! I took a few quick shots inside to learn what else they had. There was a breakfast croissant filled with egg and sautéed veggies looked incredible (drool) I regret not getting but I will be back for one! No doubt. Just didn't see it in time and had to leave. Broccoli soup had good flavor, but no veggie chunks (bummer). If you like your soup more viscous/blended this ones for you. The latte wasn't as strong as I was hoping. Service was quick! I could see this place taking a while during rush hours only because they have limited toaster space to heat up sandwiches. Kea'au Deli has potential, but my recent experience was a bit of a letdown. I ordered and paid for a sandwich, told it would take about 15 minutes to toast. Fast forward 20 minutes, and I'm informed they sold out of my order--great news when your lunch break is only 30 minutes! On the bright side, the counter staff was friendly, which is nice, but it doesn't make up for the wait and mix-up. At least the gelato is decently priced and tasty, so there's that. Maybe investing in a bigger toaster oven or a few extra toasters would help, along with a bit more communication among the team. Overall, I'd love to see them step up their game for a better customer experience. read more

Obsessed. Places like this make me sad I'm a poor college student and can only afford an occasional treat! I'd eat here every day! That prosciutto and goat cheese croissant sandwich is insane. Everything else I've tried has been delicious also. The young folks working the counter are so sweet and helpful too. The only thing that wasn't the best was the iced mocha I ordered one time. But they had just opened and the girl said she was still learning how to pull espresso drinks. I should give the coffee another go since they've been open longer now. What a gem! We came here for some breakfast and sandwiches to take into Volcano National Park. They were warm and DELICIOUS, I especially loved the goat cheese and prosciutto biscuit. We also sampled some sorbet and ice cream and the flavors were amazing - particularly the dragonfruit lemonade sorbet and the Iilikoi gelato.
