I came in for a late lunch fri night the 21st, it was about 9pm and they were pretty busy both inside and drive thru. I was greeted right away by a woman who was cleaning and sweeping the lobby. Once in a while I like to treat my youngest son to McDonald's. They've been pushing the "$5" deal meal. It's a McChicken or McDouble fries, 4 piece nuggets and a drink for 5 bucks. A lot of the fast food places are doing it since they've doubled everything in price since the new wage increase. What they don't tell you are "up charges". And at this particular McDonald's they charge a dollar extra for the McDouble $5 meal deal that's advertised. Now in hindsight it's not that expensive. But they are literally charging customers more for nothing. It's false advertising and up charging for nothing. It's not tax. That's already included. When I asked about it the guy (who was very nice) said that it's up to each McDonald's to do this. I said that's a shady way of doing business. Charging extra for nothing. Just for the sake of snaking in more money. They aren't following what's advertised. I attached a picture of my receipt to see. If the manager or if thus McDonald's is franchised and the owner is reading this can you please explain? It's false advertisement and misleading compared to what it's showing on the commercials. Pulled up to this McDonald's around 2:50am--it's listed as 24 hours, but clearly the staff didn't get the memo. As soon as we got to the speaker, the woman taking our order (her name was Samantha) sounded completely uninterested. She was literally sighing into the mic while we were ordering, with zero professionalism--no greeting, no thank you, just attitude. We weren't rude at all, but when we got to the window, Samantha looked visibly irritated and bored. She handed us our food, and as I was checking the bag, I noticed we were missing an item. I politely let her know, and she first said it should be in there, then claimed she never put it in the order. At this point it's 3:02am--and she suddenly tells us they're closed and literally locks the drive-thru window in our face mid-conversation. I knocked on the window because that was extremely rude, especially since I never even got a receipt and had no idea if I was charged for the missing item. A red-haired woman came to the window instead (who was at least somewhat more polite) and tried to de-escalate. I wasn't being disrespectful--I just wanted my receipt. She eventually handed it over, then locked the window as well. This was genuinely one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I need to give credit where credit is due. Some months ago the operation at this location was taken over by some African American gentlemen, and it's been a complete 180 degree turnaround ever since. I used to hate coming here, so much so that I boycotted it for six months because I was so fed up. The GM's name was Angel, and he was an unprofessional jerk to me one day when I had an issue. Maybe he was like that all the time, which would explain why most of the other employees had terrible customer service skills and attitudes to match. Sometimes I would get courteous and good service but most of the time it was not good. They were very rude, didn't care if you were happy or not, and would just tell you NO to things. So much for the customer is always right! I even asked a drive thru worker if they could make my QPC with minced onions instead of the big sliced ones they normally have, and she straight up said no we can't. After my eyes returned from the back of my head I didn't even bother saying another word about it, much less asking for a manager. My first job was McDonalds in the 1980's and back then it was mandatory that the paying customer leave with a smile, or at the minimum feeling satisfied that their problem was resolved, and while taking care of people just doesn't seem to be a priority anymore with big box restaurants, this location was certainly on the worse end of the spectrum. I'm happy to say that ever since there was new management it's been a mirror image of what it used to be. Those guys were very professional and on point when it comes to dealing with people, and you can see it in the way they're running things in the back. And I'm assuming that has A LOT to do with the increased professionalism of the other employees- how much more pleasant they are, making fewer mistakes and being more accommodating, and so on. I'm not even a difficult person. My very first customer I served as a pimple-faced teenager I was trying to fold the bag neatly the way the training video showed, and he literally snatched it out of my hand and walked away like I wasn't an idiot. So believe me I get how it can be and I don't want to be that guy. But I spend a lot of money and just want to be taken care of if I have an issue and they've been doing that, for more than a year by my calculation. I only ever came back for the sake of my kids wanting it, but now I'm happy to come here. I'm sure there will always be problems and disgruntled customers with the volume that gets done here and the employee churn rate, but I just cannot emphasize enough how much better this place has been.
