Not only did we get (huge!) icecream cones for a dollar but the service was also very friendly and had some laughs with the employees who made the cones. Great place!

Started going to Zhenders when a young child in the 60's. Never had any problems and always pick my favorite Family Style Chicken dinners.

I was recommended this coffee shop by a family member since they know how much I love coffee. They…read moresaid, "the best coffee, I've ever had." A bit of background on my obsession on coffee, I am not an individual that drinks a cup of joe with 500 syrups and 80 cups of milk and say "this is the best coffee EVER!" If it's my first time getting coffee from a coffee shop, I will get a plain black coffee. Therefore, I ordered black iced coffee, which had a good balance in flavors. As for a second coffee, I ordered the Iced Cafe Miel Latte with oat milk. This drink was very good and there was an even ratio between coffee and milk, not too sweet too. Originally, I wanted to grab my coffee and sit inside the coffee shop (from the view outside, the shop looked pretty and modern) but there was no parking spots and the parking lot is beyond small but I did see folks park in the establishment next door and walk over. The drive thru is narrow but the wait time was a bit long and the person at the drive thru didn't seem enthusiastic. Overall, I did enjoy the coffee but I do not see the hype. It basic coffee, nothing that stands out from the rest. I must say the coffee was a bit overpriced, it did not match the quantity. Would I recommend this place to others? I would, only if you're in the area. I wouldn't drive out of my way (20 min) to grab a coffee from this spot.

I really want to love this place because it IS a cute little coffee shop with a lot of potential…read more The vibe is cozy at first glance, but once you settle in, you start noticing some things that could definitely use improvement... shaky tables, sparse seating, and a general "almost there" feeling with the interior. The bigger issue for me is the pricing and consistency. Charging an extra $1 for alternative milk in 2026 feels a little like cash grab? Especially when a lot of people order it out of necessity, not preference. On top of that, the specialty lattes have gone up another dollar in the past year, which makes the quality even more important. I've had good drinks here before, so I know they CAN do it well but this last visit was rough. My $6.50 "specialty" latte tasted like burnt coffee water with none of the flavor I ordered. For that 20% increase in price, I expect to actually taste the specialty part. That said, the employees were genuinely kind and super helpful. They happily added more almond milk to help salvage my very sad latte, and I appreciated their attitude a lot. Overall it's a cute spot with sweet staff, but the pricing and drink consistency need some serious attention. I'd love to see them tighten things up because it really could be great.

When I opened the bag I could tell right away it was too fine. I attempted to pull a shot, but got nothing. It was most definitely Turkish grind. Since I could do nothing with the bag, I went back to explain this was ground too fine. The same individual was there and reacted with condensation, saying this is indeed espresso grind, which is basically Turkish, and he doesn't know what kind of maker I have so he cannot dial it in. I said I have never had this problem in the years I have done this at other shops. He acted like he could do nothing for me, so when I pressed that I can do nothing with these beans I spent money on, he got on the phone. At one point I heard him say, "Yes, I tried to explain that to her." As if I didn't know what I was talking about. I was finally given the option to get a bag of beans without having them ground, which is all I really wanted. I can grind the beans in my own grinder at home. I went down the street and bought a bag of beans there. I asked for espresso grind and mentioned that the last place gave me Turkish. She had to look up the appropriate setting, but she got it perfect. When I got home and opened the bag of beans from Black Iron, the beans were oily and smelled burnt. My coffee tasted that way, too. I was rather shocked because the latter I had ordered with my purchase was not bad. I had to use them up slowly by masking the bad taste with my go-to beans.

Although they care far more about their drive-through than those other businesses because definitely one of them has an external door that you would have to cross the drive-through to get to, which is just rude. But that's honestly where all the stars end. The coffee is mediocre. The menu is mediocre. You can get whatever you get everywhere else here and it will taste fine. There's zero originality in their menu. Where it truly goes downhill is their employees. How are you going to be two blocks from downtown Midland and not have any awareness of the area and be able to direct an out-of-towner to a nice place to walk? Perhaps I have high hopes for the intellectual capabilities of barista's in a medium sized town's coffee shop, but these employees are sure to disappoint you if you want to do anything other than order coffee and get your order. Whatever you do, don't expect any level of conversation. They absolutely cannot deliver. On top of that, their motto appears to be "love people," but that only extends so far as I guess their customers. They love people except for when they employ those people. When they employ those people, they love to micromanage them and force them to have an outdated dress code of black shirts. What are they some sort of indentured servant? Go somewhere else. All you can find in this coffee shop is boring.
