I have come here every year for 6 years after taking my kids to Thomas the Train. Nowhere have I ever felt more disrespected with my dog. If we had not been with other people I would have gotten up and left. We will NEVER return and will find somewhere else to continue our day out. I was instructed that my dog must be under the table, could not bark or jump up or we would have to leave. Her entire job is to let me know and allow her to jump into my lap or lay on my chest! There was plenty of room for the waitress to reach our table. We intentionally went to the very back of the restaurant so as to not be in the way of anyone else. We were NOT in a booth where there is only one way to access the table to serve us. This manager obviously has something against dogs or something. If she is under the table she cannot get to me properly. The staff need to do their research or learn exactly what is acceptable for a service dog. You don't get to make up your own rules!! Even my 9 year old sons know more about service dog behavior than these adults in this restaurant. No customers complained and in fact several times we were complimented on how well she behaved by other patrons. When I attempted to address it on my way out I was again informed that my dog could not be in the isle. If that was all he said I may have let it go. The fact that we were still getting settled shows just how unprofessional they were. My service dog is VERY well behaved and while the state does not require any testing or registration I have taken the time and gone the extra mile to have her go through public access tests and she passed with flying colors at only 9 months old!! If you have an issue with dogs I suggest you do not work where you will come across service dogs. You have no business being anywhere around the public! After we left I found other instances where others had faced the same problems. I hope others that require a service dog read the reviews before going there. read more

Dont try to plan ahead and use Door Dash. You will wait in line and your food will get cold as you wait in line for those who order at the drive through. Who orders a full steak dinner at the drive through? The car in front of us did. This isnt Culvers where you are asked to pull ahead. Whoever thought it was a good idea to do drive thru only and not allow people to come in just for pick ups didn't plan it out very well. Just go next door to McDonalds or down the street to KFC. Orders the fish and chips dinner for one meal and a Ruben sandwich for the other. The fish was soaking in grease and the batter wasn't cooked all the way. So it basically fell off. Fries were cold and hard. Tarter sauce was basically straight mayo. Think I counted 3 pieces of pickle from the relish. The Ruben sandwich had way too much butter and the bread was burnt. It was cold as well is it's curly fries. This place used to be decent for late night meal but it's really gotten bad this last year. Sadly after years of coming here and overlooking the mistakes here and there - accidents happen - this time is probably my last time. When you ask people to order ahead and still allow drive in orders but don't accommodate those who do call ahead, you're going to have a lot of upset people and cold food. read more

The food was good and brought to our table fairly quickly. The problem rose when we sent our 7 year old granddaughter up to get 10 thin mints. Sent her up with a 5 dollar bill. She come back with 9 thin mints and no change. We asked her where the change was and she said she didn't get any. So my wife went up there to ask how much they were, and come to find out the girl behind the cash register had just stuck the money in her pocket. Moral of the story is, if she would do that to a 7 year old little girl, how can you expect much from this establishment if this is what they hire. Won't go back.. read more

4.1.24 @ 1pm - I dined in with two kids and another adult. I ate here over 20 years ago! It's still open and serving delicious food with a smile. We all had breakfast. I ordered steak and eggs, kids had pancakes, mother had french toast. There were lots of sides to share like hash browns, toast, eggs, and even biscuits (waitress was nice enough to throw in the biscuits). The food was so tasty. My steak was moist, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Everyone has compliments to the chef, waitress, cashier, and kind patrons as well. Great atmosphere. Money well spent plus they honor veterans. Our server was good, but Don't ever order the shrimp dinner. Just overcooked and seriously awful. Breading was thick and dry, shrimp were tiny. For a dinner over $14 I would have expected Dinner shrimp, not over fried hockey puck popcorn shrimp. Very disappointed. read more

Stopped in at Gillies while out on a trip. We love Coney dogs and thought we'd give them a try. They use Kosher hot dogs, which I love! My husband doesn't like the casing on Kosher hot dogs, he felt like he was biting into a plastic casing because the casing is tougher than the casing on most other hot dogs. The Coney sauce is like the Coney sauce we have at a very well established downtown Kalamazoo Coney place that we love! The waitress, on the other hand, was hard to get her attention for anything, and I couldn't even get a refill on my beverage. When she gave us our beverages, she gave my root beer to my husband and his Pepsi to me! Two beverages -- couldn't keep them straight! When I checked in through Yelp, a coupon came up for a free beverage, and our waitress didn't even know about it or how to use it. She told my husband to talk to the cashier about it when we checked out. I didn't feel that the wait staff really knew much about anything. When my husband cashed out, the manager ended up giving him cash for the "free drink" rather than taking it off the bill. Doesn't seem like people know how to run a business. read more

I don't write reviews but I feel compelled to write this one. Gillies was one of my favs for flint coneys about 30 years ago and it had been almost that long since I'd been there. Today I had a craving and drove 25 minutes to get to Gillies. I ordered 2 coneys with heavy onions and a side of fries at the drive-thru. I asked for the fries to be cooked crispy on the outside, expecting the thicker cut fries that are pretty standard for a diner and the kind that they used to serve. What I got were fries that were thin cut like McDonald's, only warm, not hot like you'd expect if they just came out of the fryer. A lot of them were soggy and bent like you'd see if they had been sitting in a fry bin, the ends were brown and they were overly salty. They didn't look or taste fresh and I couldn't finish them. The coneys were nothing like I remembered. The hot dogs were barely warm inside, again indicating that they were not fresh. The coney meat was room temperature. The buns were soft but part of one bun was soggy, likely from onion juice that wasn't drained. The onions tasted off, kind of like they had been around too long. I was so disappointed to receive such bad food when I know that they used to be so much better, and given the fact that I had driven so far just to eat there. I will say that the woman serving me at the window was pleasant and helpful so there is that, but ultimately it's about the food and this time Gillies didn't come close to measuring up. read more

Stopped here for fish and chips a couple weeks back. Nothing exciting just your typical Flint area coney island fare. Service was okay and the food items received were hot and cooked as expected. I also tried a Flint Style Coney, and it was on par once again with the other area restaurants. The place should go out of their way to tell folks about the powerful flavor of the coleslaw as I had to send mine back as it was loaded with horseradish. You are either a fan or not and I am not! We might give it another try sometime for breakfast. read more

Stopped in for a Western Omlette with a side of sausage links, got 4 very sorry brown-n-serve 3" inch sausage links for $3.50. They didn't have a casing or any sage or spices, just the blandest, cheapest, gray, rubbery links at a very unreasonable price. The omlette was a 2-egg omelette with skimpy inards and the side of hash browns appeared to be 1/2 a side. To top it off, they charged me $2.50 for coffee! The total for this small omelette, 4 sorry links and coffee came to nealy $17 bucks! Horrible considering I ate everything and was still hungry when I left. This place has gone downhill replacing variety and quality for easy profit. Do yourself a favor, try the Bray Rd diner or the Classic Coney in Genesee. No contest by way of comparison. I eat here almost everyday and they have really great service and really delicious food.

The breakfast are good. If you order other stuff to go it's not so good. We ordered 5 coney and a cheeseburger and frieds. I only live bv 6 miles away. Drove straight home and all the coney islands were wrapped in paper and stacked in bad and soggy smashed some with burger . Nasty. They should put them in a styrofoam box. They were a mess falling apart,soggy. Like I said I ordered at takeout line and took straight home ,6 miles away so they shouldn't of looked like a soggy mess in less than 10 minutes read more

And despite the trickery I called to order another for my coworkersand I, but lost my appetite after manager Marko spoke to me in the most demeaning tone, and asked me if i ate the salad anyway..the salad thats sold with full chicken strips, but instead it was sold to me with broken pieces and crumbs from the bottom of the bag on 1/16@ 1156pm ... this food I bought was not worth the money or time! Gillie's is a perfectly serviceable restaurant, among a shallow pool of competition in Mt. Morris. While it's completely tacky and dive-y, the food is decent if a little heavy on the fats. Don't expect anything special. I can't really comment on the coney islands, because after finally trying one I find the entire concept repellent. read more

It's not the very best Coney/Diner in the Flint area, but it's right on my way home, so yea, I go here about once a week. All of the food is passable, and the breakfasts are tasty; my favorite is the steak and Swiss omelet, It has a dive vibe, but seems perfectly clean enough. The owner must be some kind of right wing activist, because they sell stuff like alternative currency coins (I've bought several, you never know, right?), lots of 2nd amendment gear, and my all time favorite feature, you can pay for your meal with scrap metal. We just had breakfast and it was amazing. Our waitress was lovely and was just on top of everything. Everyone was so friendly it literally amazed me. Some guy even offered to come up and pay for my boyfriend and i's meal to "pay it forward". We had already paid but it sounded like he decided to pay for someone else's meal when we were leaving. At 1 AM you would not expect this kind of atmosphere but I just didn't want to leave! Will forever be coming back !!!
