We picked this place based on the great ratings. Overall, not sure how to feel about the experience. If you are looking for great ambiance, this is not it. But we just wanted lunch so it was fine! The menu is small but it was fine - we all found something we liked and when one of us didn't, the person behind the counter made her a grilled sandwich to order. I got a grilled chicken BLT. It was not a traditional chicken breast but something along the lines of a chipped chicken lunchmeat. Overall, it was "ok" - it tasted ok and it filled my stomach. The custom grilled sandwich was a tad soggy but tasted "ok" as did the meatball sub. No serious complaints but nothing exceptional either. Went in to the deli about 5:30 on a weekday, they seem to close the deli whenever they want between 5 and 6 pm - at first I couldn't tell if the deli was open because no one seemed to be working at the counter. Certainly nothing fancy looking from the outside, across the street from a rundown outlet mall. There was one guy working the bar and the deli. He was the bartender, cook, waiter and seemingly most everything else. However he was very nice and accommodating for us. We ordered two different sandwiches. All said they were very good food. Great food and good service! It was kinda pricey but the food tasted fresh and was well made. The corn beef on my Ruben was delicious and it was warm and oozing cheese and thousand island sauce (my favorite part). I will definitely be back just for the taste of that $12 sandwich alone. They had a large variety of drinks (some alcoholic, cause there's a bar in the back) and good variety of chips. They were out of 3 menus items when I stopped in, one of them being part of the special of the day, a little disappointing but not the end of the world. This place is definitely worth giving a try! Although it looks like a place you would take your self-propelled lawn mower to for a tune-up, this deli makes one of, if not 'the', best Reuben sandwiches I have ever eaten. The bread is not soggy and there is a balance of corned beef, sauerkraut, cheese and sauce. I ate three of them there during the Frankenmuth Oktoberfest and I was pleased with all them. I highly recommend you give them a try. If you want an alcoholic beverage, you can take your food into the adjacent bar and eat it there. Lots of parking on the east side of the building. A deli, a bar and a pharmacy sounds like a weird joke. It is. The pharmacy and the deli were closed on a Tuesday at 7 pm. Tried to stop in here for lunch today, a Saturday at 12:30pm. One car in the parking lot ... placed looked closed up. Get up to the door and sure enough - a handwritten sign said CLOSED. Wanted to try a Yelp-highly-recommended (almost five star) hidden gem and it was a flop. So my one star is based not on the food, wish I could leave a review, but on the lack of business hours and posting anywhere they'd be closed today. It's definitely a local hole in the wall hotspot. The Yelp Directions unfortunately took us to the Culver's Parking lot. Thankfully we noticed the sign across the way and were able to figure out the true location. Service was awesome. Chef Seymour was super friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. I came in with children with the intent of grabbing food for them elsewhere since they aren't ones to eat fancy sandwiches. However, Chef Seymour offered to make them kids meals. We ended up ordering them grilled cheese and chicken strips. I personally was a little disappointed in the chicken strip quality but the kids didn't have any complaints. This is my second time eating here in two months and I live an hour away. Each time I opted for the Ruben and have never been disappointed. The corned beef and sauerkraut were tender and delicious. The bread wasn't overly greasy like I've experienced at other places. The two-sliced Ruben is big and I always take half home because one half is filling. I grabbed cherry bbq potato chips, too. Tasty. Rosie was a great hostess and gave us the vibe of being with a longtime friend. She brought us samples of her homemade chicken noodle soup which was fresh and flavorful. We stopped here while traveling north and man did we pick the BEST lunch spot around!! The subs were phenomenal! He had the steak & cheese... I had a club, but swapped the ham for turkey. We did swapsies because you have to try both!!! And both were super tasty! The owner/chef.. Mr Seymour is a great guy!! Not only welcoming upon entering, but he's great to talk to also. Nope! So sad that the original version of the Birch Run Deli has been decimated. I used to love stopping here for a large, tasty deli sandwich on trips to Up North. Stopped here the other day to find a different guy behind the counter, which was a surprise. Anyway, I'll trust that nobody in their right mind would muddle the quality of this place. Wrong. My 2nd point of concern when he handed me my bag with two sandwiches, and it weighed almost nothing. Last time we were here, the bag weighed three times as much. Anyway, first bit was good, not great. Amount of meat on the sandwiches was severely lacking. So, we had the exact same experience as other people who reviewed recently. So, the owner apologized to the other reviewers and said he'd make it right. Well, he didn't learn a thing, with our experience the same extreme disappointment. I was still very hungry after eating this $14 sandwich. I will never go back and this abysmal new version of the BR Deli will certainly fail. It'd be so simple to continue the quality that started, but no... complete failure here. Please, new operator, do not bother to offer me a free meal. Per the reviews on Yelp, my husband and I stopped in for a lighter meal before hitting the road again. The server was so kind and friendly. I was ordering from an out-dated menu (on Yelp). Great and much needed spot in the Birch Run area. Stumbled upon this place needing some lunch that was not fast food. The place is in a strip mall and a little tough to see from the main road. The inside is a little bare but clean and comfortable. One of the nicest and warmest welcomes when we walked in. Staff was so nice and helpful. Been open since August 2018 and half off for first responders and veterans. Tons of great sandwiches along with soups and salads. Order at the cash register and wait for your food. Wow. Not good. Tried to support local. These people do not answer their phone. Voicemail is full. I guess business is so good they don't need to. Which is terrible in two ways. First you can't ask questions or give them a heads up about a large order. And second, you have no way to let them know that the order is wrong. Ordered 16 menu items. 2 were wrong and 2 sandwiches were missing. Paid over $50 for just grub hub delivery fee and tip to have no lunch as mine was one of the sandwiches missing:(...a few of the people liked their lunch, the salads looked good. Won't be returning. My wife and I came here for lunch and we're glad we did! The guy behind the counter was really nice and then the owner came out and greeted us as well. I forget the name of the sandwich I had but it had pastrami, corned beef and coleslaw with thousand island dressing, it was so good and they toasted the bread and it was really good. I also got a bowl of the jambalaya and it was really good, I couldn't eat it all because I was full off the sandwich but I took it home and gave it to my southern mother who had some criticisms but still enjoyed it. Definitely will go back when I'm in the area. It's always a great experience when you get customer service instead of barely being paid attention to. I called up there shortly afterward & Rosie wanted to argue with me. I don't lie. I'm 70 yrs old. She said she'd refund the price of the Reuben back on my debt card & 5 days later, there is no credit on my account. There was also fat along the edge of the corned beef that I CAN NOT digest. Rosie said she pays $15 or $16.99 a lb for her corned beef & thats impossible. Again, I'm not a liar. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Stopped by for our second visit this afternoon, traveling between our home and points in northern MI to camp and hike. This deli is turning out to be one of our favorite delis in MI. I thoroughly enjoy a good pastrami or corn beef sandwich, but don't indulge often. One benefit of living 90-miles away is that I won't be tempted to eat these delicious sandwiches too often. They are phenomenal in all ways. Hot, flavorful and packed with good fixings like onions, sauerkraut, mustard served on delicious grilled Texas-style toast (or other bread of your choice.). The NY-style dill pickle chips served on the side are a nice touch. My husband has tried the healthier tuna sub and loved it, and a cheese steak sub. He sings praises for both sandwiches. We have tried their homemade coleslaw and it's a keeper. Would love to live close enough to sample more sandwiches, homemade soup and salads. As long as the weather remains nice, we will certainly continue enjoying our visits to the deli. Truly, NY style portions and flavors right here in MI. The owner is great with customers and works very hard to please his customers. Very personable and engaged. Great business. Just stopped by the Deli again on our way home from a visit to the UP. We've visited this deli three times this summer. The food is excellent with so many choices and all equally satisfying. Definitely stop by on your way past Birch Run. I live in Ann Arbor (home of Zingermans Deli) and the sandwiches at Birch Run Deli are far better than any sandwich you can get in Ann Arbor. I love Reuben sandwiches and it's my go-to if I see it on a lunch menu or go to a deli. I ordered their Triple Bronx Reuben and it was possibly the best Reuben I've ever had. Easily in the top 3. So much meat, very inexpensive for what you get, perfect amount of sauerkraut, and the bread was perfectly toasted. I could only eat 1/4 of it before I got full - I literally made 4 meals out of this one sandwich. I wish this deli were closer to where I lived. But anytime I'm in the Flint area I will certainly be stopping by Birch Run Deli to grab a Reuben. My wife had the Sicilian Chicken sandwich and she said it was the best sandwich she'd ever eaten.
