On an unwavering mission, we rounded the corner east bound on Route 66 late in the afternoon. Our destination in sight, the Old Magnolia Garage. In I go, straight to the big fried pie display case. I really wasn't expecting to find anything left at this time of the day, but there they were, two blackberry pies. Somehow, they survived the morning feeding frenzy. They were immediately adopted, along with a strawberry. Tomorrow's breakfast delight. The Rock Cafe is on Historical Route 66. Built in 1939 from stone that was excavated during the construction of Route 66. It is a charming small town cafe, rich in history. The owner Dawn Welch was the inspiration for the animated character Sally Carrera from the 2006 film Cars. The Cafe is rustic, casual, with a cool fun vibe. The staff is friendly and the service good. The dining area is not large. When we arrived there were a couple of booths and center tables available, but a few minutes later a group of 16 came in and filled the Cafe. We started with fried green tomatoes ($8,25). They were very good. The best I've had at a restrauant. All three of us ordered the chicken fried steak ($14.35), mashed potatoes, cream gravey, and fried Okra. It was very good. The chicken fried steak was just the right size and had substance compared to those that are big on batter and light on meat. The mashed potatoes and cream gravey just right. Loved the fried okra. The meal was scrumdiddlyumptious. The Cafe was not noisy even though they were maxed out busy. The prices are very moderate. It's a fun little Cafe with good food.

And, she is always stressing the importance of grabbing caffeine at this spot for their tasty lattes and delicious sandwich options. Anytime we make a trip here, we are consistently met with a warm welcome and engage in genuine conversations with the staff. The owner's hospitality is truly infectious and her good energy makes her customers feel at ease before going to work or a long road trip. The blend of ingredients in their lattes are also quite unique and give Heavenly Grind a signature flavor profile that you can't find anywhere else. Their lattes really do taste like your favorite aunt made them! Don't sleep on the food either. My favorite sandwich is the Croisammie with the spicy jelly! Fire Despite the limited menu, I believe that this humble coffee spot has everything people need to start their day off right and to serve their community day in and day out. It's probably got a whole spoonful of mixture inside of it. If it's not going to be a value don't put it on the menu. Even worse it feels like an up charge for what use to be .99 cents a wrap.
