I went in this morning and arrived @ 7:20am for a 7:30 appt that had been made 6 months ago. I was checking in and the person ask me if I had paid the (wait for it......) $1.73 balance they sent to collections. This was the first I heard about this. She said I couldn't see the Dr unless it was paid. Ok so let me pay it. She said you have to pay the agency we sent it to. She then gives me 3 phone numbers and says she is not sure which one of these they sent it to. So I should call and bring her a reference number. Well note the time, no one was open so therefore I drove in rush hour traffic, used almost a quarter of a tank of gas, made my appt so I could get to work at a reasonable time and could not see the doctor. Most absurd thing I have ever heard $1.73 cost them this review plus a customer and we all know a dissatisfied customer will tell a lot more people than a satisfied one. I was told NOT to use MCFARLAND EYE CARE FOR YEARS BUT I HEARD SBOUT THIS DOCTOR AND SHE SPECIALIZED FOR MY SITUATION. There is no excuse for treating people like they are trying to skip out on a bill they didn't even know they had and all over $1.73. I mean come on people this beats all I have ever seen. I see worse now than I did with the cataracts. They bounce you from one doctor to another to another and apparently no one communicates or knows how to read a chart. You should be evaluated by the doctor preforming the surgery and all follow ups should be with that same Doctor! If they actually sent in the prescription on their own with out me calling days later asking why it hasn't been sent yet, it was usually the wrong medication that I am allergic to. EVERYTHING with this place has been nothing but a huge struggle. How am I supposed to use the steroid eye drops the way you expect me to if you NEVER send the CORRECT prescription to my pharmacy in a timely manor! Very poor Customer Service - Dr nguyen at Rodney Parham office did my eye exam in Jan 2023, wrote RX for Contacts w/brand "Ultra" on the RX (I was trying a free pair of Ultras to see if I liked them better than BioInfinity - which I have worn for over 10 years). I did Not like the Ultras, so when I ordered new BioInfinity contacts (1-800-Contacts) Dr Nguyen WOULD NOT REWRITE THE RX w/BioInfinity on it UNLESS I CAME BACK INTO McFARLANE FOR A 2nd Eye Exam only 8 months later! RIDICULOUS!!! My exam and contact fitting done in Jan 2023 was for CONTACTS, NOT FOR A SPECIFIC BRAND OF CONTACTS. Yet Dr Nguyen REFUSED to rewrite RX w/BioInfinity. They don't tell you that they don't even charge your insurance for a significant portion of the cataract procedure (not just for the multi-focal lenses.) You are required to pay $3106 prior to the surgery. If you normally have an out-of-pocket maximum with your insurance, it won't be applied to that because the insurance company never sees it. So, don't be angry with your insurance company. If they weren't so rude when you try to communicate them or question the billing I wouldn't score them so low. But, one of the most hateful emails from Customer Care I received on the morning of my mother's funeral. I adore the medical team. They are great. But, the office people that you deal with when you get your pricing AFTER they have run all of the tests is the worst I've ever dealt with in a medical facility. I will never be back. Even though my eyesight is 20/20 with glasses, I was told I needed cataract surgery. I became leery when the non-medical woman scheduling it tried to upsell me to another surgery "option" that was literally 10 times more expensive than their "basic package." I cannot tell you all how patient friendly everyone at both the Rodney Parham, LR clinic as well as the surgery center off Chenal LR. are. I have been having eye exams for many years and became dissatisfied with my usual center once my doc retired and did I hit the jackpot when I found Dr. Seelinger at Mcfarland--the most thorough exam I have ever had-- then needing cataract removal, was set up with Dr Hoffman and along with the entire staff at both facilities the kindness, smiles, attention to myself and details is just superior (I am retired nurse from local hospital and I know the difficulties of maintaining this level of goodness). and let me shout out to Mindy the scheduling nurse who I doubt gets the thank yous she deserves..She went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and I cannot appreciate and thank her enough .. Update to review: I've since adjusted my review following more recent interactions with both my doctor at McFarland Eye Care and the staff. I received a call from my doctor in under 48 hours following my call cancelling an appointment and writing the review. He took time to hear my perspective and offered to see me again or refer me to other providers. He also apologized for cancelling our original appointment and explained he had to tend to an emergency. I have a tight schedule currently because I am planning to move to a new town, and made this known; my doctor offered to have me come in for an appointment in under a week to check on my status. When I returned to the clinic, both my doctor and the staff were attentive, friendly, and eager to make sure I was served well. Additionally, my doctor took the time to slowly and clearly explain my condition as well as my treatment options. I am truly impressed with how far the staff went to serve me before I move out of town. I specifically appreciate that everyone on staff prioritized improving communication with me. Thanks everyone at McFarland! Original review: I went to McFarland's location in West Little Rock in November 2016 for a chalazion; I continued to seek treatment through June 2017. I went through two rounds of antibiotics, steroid creams, and other non-prescription suggestions made by the doctor. He also performed surgery on the affected lid. None of this helped; I followed all recommendations to the T. In addition, I regularly would call the office to indicate my concerns that the recommendations were not helping and I was met with dismissiveness and condescension from the nursing staff. My doctor also cancelled an appointment with little warning. I regret going to McFarland. To this day my eyelid is not back to normal. read more

Having Lasik surgery at McFarlands was the worst decision I have ever made. The results of the first procedure were not great, and after waiting and going through laser eye surgery a second time I got the EXACT SAME BAD RESULTS. So now I've paid $4000 for lasik, over $600 on fake tears for the newly created dry eye condition that I still have 6 months later, and I still had to go buy new glasses. I have had a good experience with all the locations, until today. I made an appointment with the Bryant location, because of my eye hemorrhage. So I close my office and go there for my appt today and they dont have me on the books. After waiting for 20 min they tell me they will have to try to fit me in a couple of hours, if I want to come back. Keep in mind I work out of town and closed my office, told her I cant drive all the way back to work and change the sign and drive back here again. That did not matter, she did say she was sorry, I understand people make mistakes but you need to fix it when you do, not punish me. read more

I can't say better things about the McFarland Eye Center! I had lasik a couple years ago here and it was such a great experience. They take such special care to make sure you are comfortable, and leave with medicine so you can sleep through the day. When you awake, perfect vision, whoo hoo! I've heard horror stories from other doctors where people aren't given pain killers or rushed out the door after the procedure. Not here! Also, I was active military at the time which means I got 1.2 off my procedure (total cost was $2000)!!! I would highly recommend McFarland Eye Center if you are even considering lasik...one of the best decisions I've ever made! read more

I cannot express how grateful I am for the staff at McFarland, Dr. Wilkes, and the Surgery Center! When my daughter had a cyst on her eyelid and could barely open her eye, we were turned away by two other Dr's and referred to Children's (with a month long wait)! Dr. Wilkes agreed to see her at the Pine Bluff clinic and scheduled surgery in LR the next day. The nurses at the surgery center went out of their way to ease her anxiety! They were like angels and brought her stuffed animals to hug during her surgery! From warm blankets and reassurance to outstanding after hours care, I highly recommend them. read more

PATIENT BEWARE!! Found out today via a process server that I was being sued for a $400 bill that I was unaware of! This after I had paid my co pay on the day of surgery and was assured that was all I owed! My insurance company has already paid thousands of dollars , but apparently that was not enough!! I am very distressed over the new tv commercials. I too had laser cataract eye surgery. As a result I require glasses for distance and near vision - very different than what the commercial suggests to be the expected outcome. The worst thing is that I could previously read a book or newspaper without glasses and now I can't. I also had the astigmatism corrected so that I could wear contact lenses. This is also not possible. I called the office four times talk to someone and no one returned my call. When I said that I wanted to do my follow-up care at McFarland's, I was told that was immpossible and I would have to go back to the quack that referred me to them. I think this business's reputation has been purchased though their commercials and relationships with other doctors, the old boys' network. Worst possible experience for me with one of my most precious assets, my vision. read more

Having taken my father to this location for cataracts I've found that for each eye we are made to wait in the waiting room for at least 2 hours before they even begin. Pretty disappointed right now. I need to get my son to an eye specialist so he doesn't lose his vision. Our primary care doctor said to take him to an eye doctor so I called what I heard was one of the best. The lady kept asking me exactly what is wrong with his eye (that's kind of why I need a doctor?????) so I had to keep telling her his symptoms. Next she wants to know all about my insurance (I'd pay cash over and over for my son's eyes. Finally she comes back and tells me they can see him next Tuesday. Hello. This is an emergency so why didn't she just say they dont see patients who are in eye pain who have already been treated by a PCN with antibiotics for 2 days and told to go to an eye doctor to find out what's going on??????
