We did a lot of research on cleaning a very large 10 x 13' wool carpet that is a beloved family heirloom. Mcfarlands was highly recommended by stores in the valley. They picked up my carpet on time and delivered a bright cleaned carpet in the promised 2 week time. It's white the colors are bright, they took a worn dirty stained carpet we layed it down and haven't stopped lookin at it, enjoying its new chapter. I've even sent pictures to share with some family. We've taken many items to McFarland's/Mancuso's over the years, but this time was a great disappointment and the end of the road for us. Their unprofessional service and overall disregard for the damage they caused to our rug were unsettling. Add their zero accountability for poor craftsmanship and lack of communication, despite many points of contact, and this experience has all the makings for short-lived potential for their future longevity in business. Companies go out of business routinely for various reasons. Factor in this company's anemic management, minimal business acumen, and decision-making skills, and it's easy to imagine them shuttered and a dim memory in Phoenix. Last we knew, this company was family-owned with a positive, decades-long reputation in Phoenix that meant something. Now, it appears they couldn't care less. And, seeing the other negative customer reviews here supports this notion. The rug was not repaired properly, nor did they make any effort to discuss repair options with us first, before assuming that bypassing repair options reflecting obvious characteristics of this rug style would get by us and be deemed acceptable. Instead, they opted for a quick, unconscious, and subpar fix at a premium price. John showed us the worst in customer service and is questionable as a business owner. His underling manager was no better. We will never use McFarland's/Manguso's again. Think twice before you do. To say the place has gone downhill is an understatement. read more

Perhaps the most terrible customer service Ive ever experienced from a company. Brought our Persian rug to be repaired (tassels needed to be redone). The first thing when we dropped off the rug the owner and his son say "I wouldn't pay $80 for this" The owner confirmed that the tassels will be redone and quoted us $620. Fast forward 2 weeks later with no updates, I called and asked if the rug was finished. Apparently it was. I picked up the rug and when I unwrapped it, the tassels had not been touched at all. I called in to which the son answered. I asked if they had possibly missed the tassels? He became extremely defensive saying I needed to bring the rug in and ask his Dad. I asked if I could just speak to him on the phone as I live 45 minutes away. Turns out his Dad is "in the middle of no where in Mexico". The son then said "You'll get your refund and never call back here again" and hung up the phone. I had my husband call because maybe I upset him? Turns out the son might have anger problems because again he said to my husband "I'll call you whenever I feel like it" and hung up again. I've attached photos of their "work". They also keep their dog in the shop which jumps on top of and sleeps on all of their rugs for sale. read more

They came to my home, evauated my rugs (3) and made recommendations for repair as well as cleaning. Three weeks later, my rugs were returned and looked beautiful! There were old stains that were out, a new pad that is much better than I had, and the fringe had been trimmed on my Asian rug which looks so much better! I used McFarland's twice now. I highly recommend them! A few months ago I got my Persian rug washed ($97), repaired damaged corner (chewed by our dog, $240), replaced entire backing ($87). It might have costed as much as the brand new rug but money well spent since I didn't want to replace it with new one. (All cost varies depending on size of the rug and extent of damages, of course) read more

They do beautiful work! You can give them a disgusting, peed on, stained, nasty rug, and they will return it to you in LOVELY condition! They also sell rugs-TONS of rugs!! It would be 5 stars, but it's $3 a square foot -which ends up being a lot of money. Worth it though. read more

We called them to come out and cut/bind a 12x15 wool area rug that we just got from World of Rugs. We bought a few rugs, because World of Rugs said McFarland's would come out and pick up the rugs and bring them back. McFarland's told us that they wouldn't give us a price, nor pick up our rugs. This week I suggested a friend take her rugs to McFalands. I haven't had a reason to take anything to them recently but it's the ONLY place I would consider if I needed a rug cleaned. That is how good my experience with them has been. I happen to know that some of the most expensive rug dealer's, including antique, send all their work to McFarlands. The location is a little out of the way and not the most exciting setting by any means but I am paying for the quality of the work not the look of the place. If they say they can do it, you can count on the fact the job will be done right. I have only had one question ever and they immediately redid the job to get it right. Sometimes you have to wait a little longer to get your rugs clean but guess that's the price you pay for a place that is so popular that they can get swamped! Nice people who are very professional in what they do. I think their prices are reasonable,. They might be a little higher than other places. I don't know as I don't go any other place. I brought a 1930's, very neglected and ignored, Chinese rug into McFarland's not expecting a whole lot. WOW was I wrong! They assured me that it was a nice rug, worth investing a little money to clean it and do a minimal amount of repair to keep it from fraying more. I was shocked at how well it came out and am bringing another antique rug to be cleaned today. I loved that I didn't feel any pressure or like they were trying to sell me anything! This review is for my mom's wool rug. She took her expensive wool rug here a few times for cleaning and they did a great job with cleaning, but then they told her it needed to be re-bound. When it came back, the edges are all curved and the rug looks terrible laying along the straight lines of a tile or a wood floor. Also one corner you can see all this white stitching on the the top of it, once again, looks horrible. So this place is great for cleaning, but BEWARE of re-binding. read more

I am a Scottsdale Designer and McFarlands has been cleaning my customers rugs for years. They are the only one I would trust with Persian and Fine Wools. Area rugs look new when they are done. Whether you want to roll it up and toss it in the back of your pick up truck and bring it to them or ask them to pick it up. Whatever your choice is you won't be disappointed. I have lived in the Valley since 1974 and they have been working for me that long. I recommend them over anyone else. When McFarland's repaired my rug, they left a bald spot in one of the corners. I could not believe they let it go out of the shop looking like that. When I called to complain, they offered to fix it, but they did not apologize. After I insisted, they sent someone to pick it up. When I talked to the owner, he said I was "making a mountain out of a molehill." The second time around, they fixed the problem they created, but the corner they re-repaired looks a little lumpy. I can see the lump from 8 feet away. McFarland's has a good reputation, but it doesn't seem to me like they take any pride in their work.
