I went here for a few maintenance things for upkeep. All went well, certainly a little expensive but what isn't these days. Was recommended $2,000 worth of service on top of what I needed done($400 for a battery alone), and when I took it home the transmission drain plug was loose to the touch! Not a good look, tell the mechanic to lay off the chronic. Brought it back and they fixed it but things like that shouldn't happen especially with transmission. This isn't mcdonalds where mistakes are expected this is mechanics working on machines that are driven on public roads, please take better care in the future. read more

Backup sensor on Outback failed. There are 4 on the bumper. My independent auto repair said have to go to dealership as this is a type of electronic. Kept my car for 4 hrs then called and said they need to order part. Then also said I need 3 other services that I would never have them do so refused those. Always go to my less expensive knowledgeable and timely auto repair shop. Part took 4 days to come in. Though they said they would call me they didn't. I had to. Took the car again. After 4 hours they called and said it was an incorrect sensor. Have to order another one another 4 days. I did lose my patience' and said forget it you guys are ridiculous but then was told can't get money back for the incorrect part. They said this time it would only take an hour and that they wouldn't charge me labor for the day the part was wrong ( have to remove bumper). Went back third time and it did take only an hour. Bill for labor only he said cheerfully. Yes they had me prepay for the part $350 for ONE sensor. So yah. Labor bill $400+ so it's clear they did charge me for the previous labor. Lying. I bought my car from them. Will never ever return to this dealership for sales or service. They live up to the poor reputation that "car salesman " have. Disgusting. read more

I lived in South Boston for most of my life and therefore, drove USED cars (IYKYK). I moved to southern Maine a few years ago and this week, determined it was time to retire my 2010 Honda Civic, and to buy a new car (my first brand new car). Got their D service ($654). I live in 2 states and asked about break replacement which didn't need to be done immediately. I got a quote from my tire guy in locale which was $200 less than McGovern's quote. McGovern service guy said he'd see what he could do and said he'd cut $100 less for brake replacement, so I accepted that since I was there and having car serviced anyway. Meanwhile McGovern emailed a voucher offering $100 off of any service job over $200. They did not honor that. I would have passed on the brake replacement getting it $200 less elsewhere and had the $100 discount. They got an extra $500 brake order from me. Jay weaseled out of making this right with a "this is above my pay grade" lame excuse for squeezing out of the promised $100 reduction. Exeter Subaru now gets my business. read more

I was back again today for my oil change and tire rotation along with complimentary 25 point inspection. My service advisor Anthony Polito went above and beyond in helping me with my service. I knew I would be needing tires soon and he researched the make and model of the tires I wanted. Their price was very competitive to other "tire shops" but I don't mind spending a little extra due to the service department being excellent. Find somewhere else to buy a Subaru. I worked for Liberty Mutual and this was a recommended dealership. I spoke with HR about this and True Car and they are both having this dealership removed for any recommendations. I've been trying to cancel an insurance policy added to my vehicle since I first purchased it in March 2022 and have gotten no where. This specific location won't even respond to the corporate office (I filed a complaint). I was going to have leather seats added to the vehicle and I told them I wanted a sunroof. The sales person said it's super easy to do... I spoke with a mechanic and another dealership - both stated NO DO NOT LET THEM CUT A SUNROOF INTO THE VEHICLE. I decided to cancel having any add ons and was refunded but was never refunded for the taxes I had to pay when I registered the vehicle (a little more than $100). I'm also continuing to pay interest on an insurance policy I've been trying to have removed from my policy since the start (I have proof of this with the dates and times I've continued to have it removed). The policy is $2,500 and I'm paying about 3% for my interest on my loan (roughly 75$ per month) and I've had the vehicle since March. In total I've paid nearly a whole months car payment just on interest for a policy I never wanted. I plan to take further action regarding the matter as this has been the absolute worst experience of my life. Super dishonest. They quoted me an amount that they would buy my Subaru for, said they would mail me the check. They didn't. When I called they acted like it was a surprise and thankfully, the salesperson remembered me and agreed to get a check for me. Asked me to come by and pick it up. When I came to pick it up he still needed to get it signed. They had NO intention of paying me until I pushed the issue. Now I'm on hold with the insurance company because they didn't relinquish the plates even though I took the car off the road with the RMV. In the past, when I've leased from them, they've tacked on extra costs at signing without telling me, saying they had to because of my credit (which is in the 700's). When I warn them that I'm not buying under those circumstances, they act like I'm being a whiner. Won't return. read more

Christian Morillo is great and will go to lengths to ensure customers have a pleasant experience. In our case, Christian was crucial to rectifying the situation we encountered with another employee here. Avoid Cheryl Pierro at all costs. Go to Christian or another one of their sales reps. Myself and my boyfriend were purchasing our first car together (used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee) and the entire process with Cheryl was a train wreck. She continuously belittled us and made us feel as if we were an inconvenience to her. We be having a conversation and she would excuse herself and go have a smoke (happened numerous times). We paid to have a runner go to the RMV for us and experienced some delays here. She didn't know the status of the runner, just that we didn't have plates yet. At one point she told Adam (my bf) "honey, why don't you do yourself a favor and give the RMV a call to ask what the wait time is." We didn't have a car to trade in so we were arranging borrowing cars of friends/family to make the 2 hour drive up to NH to obtain the vehicle. On top of work schedules, this obviously required some coordination on our end and we were simply trying to get a status update on the license plates so we knew when we could plan to make the drive back up. She ended up knowing Adams phone number and started ignoring any calls he made to her for a status update. Finally, we get word that the plates will arrive by 8am or 12pm Friday during the scheduled FedEx times. Plates, again, didn't arrive on time, and Cheryl was out of office that day so getting status updates was even more of a hassle. Cheryl was unable to answer simple questions like "what are these two recalls on the car for?" Or "what is the difference between the Laredo and Limited you have on the lot?" We also reiterated to Cheryl that we had 7 days from purchase to get the car registered so we needed it to be done by Friday afternoon. She told us "oh don't worry about that, cops will be lenient because of COVID." What?!!? Yes when I get pulled over for no registration I'll just let the cop know the sales person said it's fine so I'll be on my way now. Not the appropriate answer.... Our experience with Cheryl was incredibly unprofessional, upsetting, and overall atrocious. Buying your first car is supposed to be one of the most exciting experiences but she ruined that for us and made it a hassle. Everyone I told about this situation (friends/family) were appalled we still purchased the vehicle. Had this not been the exact Jeep we were searching for, we would've walked out. I apologize that this positive rating for Christian has to be tied to such a terrible experience with Cheryl, but luckily Christian was able to make the tail end of the process a bit more positive for us. He reassured that if we needed anything in the future to connect with him directly, so that we could avoid future encounters with Cheryl. read more

Said Kelly blue book doesn't have any cars so it's inaccurate, and that I don't know what I'm talking about and it's his job so he does. If we have different ideas of what's fair that's fine, you can just say that. You don't need to be mean about it. By the way, the price I was given after my trade in (which was priced about 1000 less than kbb trade in value but was supposedly doing me a solid) was 1000 dollars more than the ticket price of the car. How does that work??? And that's supposed to be fair? They just added on extra things to get even more money when I said I didn't think the price was fair. The manager was really nice. Didn't seem to care that his employer was a butthead, but I guess that's part of the job description. This dealership sold a 2015 Subaru Forester with a bent exhaust along with other problems. Upon pick-up, the car failed its own inspection. They repaired the problem and, once I took the car to a more reputable Subaru dealership and competitor, it was clear that McGovern Subaru Acton was fraudulent in giving a passing grade to a car with a bent exhaust missing mounting brackets, and a number of other problems. Bring a mechanic with you. Lawsuit is in progress. read more

Never tried. Was vague about numbers on multiple occasions. Said he would buy out my lease but then my quoted monthly payment jumped by $100 because they were "making payments on my behalf". Was insulted and disrespected. Told to not get upset so easily and to go take care of my lease myself (????) Went to Exeter Subaru and they got me the exact make and color I wanted in under an hour. Subaru Recommended Services were twisted into their own with cost added despite Subaru saying they were included. Disorganized, dishonest and did not provide breakdown of work done, only that it was their own "dealer menu" $271.00 worth. Stay away - go to a reputable service subaru dealer. A follow up to my previous review of McGovern. I sent them all the information about my close call and they were fairly responsive to discuss and ultimately reimburse me for the emergency repair I had to have done as well as for the work that led to the incident. They did deflect full responsibility by saying that they had Subaru look at the photos I sent and that Subaru commented that the posts looked corroded. That begs the question, if the posts looked corroded why didn't someone mention that? It also didn't explain why the front side drivers lug nuts were also loose and almost falling off. In the end, there is no HARD PROOF that they were responsible but since they were the last people to touch the wheels they agreed to step up and do the right thing in this instance. I am grateful that they followed through without too much hassle. I'm still terrified to drive on the highway, though... read more

They just crapped on a customer who has already bought two cars from them-they refused a third ELEVEN DAYS after letting her off the lot AND after she made another payment on the leased one she was trading in on this deal. Leave their sales practices and customer service on this one aside for a minute. When they brought her leased car back around front today to give back to her since 'the deal was off', her name was smeared all over the windshield (they didn't bother to clean it up) AND her battery was dead. I should have seen the red flag to begin with, my partner and I walked around for 40 minuets before anyone spoke to us and asked if we needed help. long story short I did purchase a car here and was able to drive it for one day as It showed to be defective. we brought it in and they could not find any problems with it. drove it for a day and it seemed to have the same problem so we brought it back,12 days later and no one has reached out to me, no one remembers what car I have or where it is and no one has looked at it. I had bought my previous car from Ocean Subaru back in 2013. Just for giggles my husband and I stopped by McGovern to see what they had for newer models of the same vehicle (Crosstrek). My car has less than 45,000 miles so I knew I should get a decent trade in. Within 5 minutes I found an exact replica of my current car but with more bells and whistles. I ended up trading my car in for the new car and lowered my monthly payment by over $75/month. The only downside is McGovern doesn't do the free oil changes any more. But seeing as I barely put any miles on my car I can manage (my car is almost a year old and I have about 6,000 miles on it). My husband bought his car there as well and he's down there now looking for a used car for our son. Hopefully he will find something that meets the needs without breaking the bank. read more

The windshield of my 2016 Legacy cracked. I found a service bulletin on line describing the issue and brought it to a local Subaru dealer in the Portland Maine area. The service manager would not submit a claim to Subaru and denied coverage. McGovern service agreed that the crack was identical to the images in the service bulletin and repaired the defect at no cost to me. Every interaction at this dealership has been professional. We found the Jeep that we wanted on the Auto Trader website and their website which had to be an automatic. We checked with the dealer to make sure that it was still available since it was a long drive to get there. When we arrived at the dealership we found out that the Jeep was a standard (and the auto information on the window sticker said that it was an automatic). The salesman was polite but the attitude clearly was too bad and not their or the dealer's problem or responsibility. Too add insult to injury, we got an email the next day from the General Sales Manager who clearly had no clue what had happened. I would never shop there again or tell anyone that it was a good place to shop. read more
