Their seafood is as fresh as you can find in the Chicago land area. Chef Rob is always helpful in giving advice on how to prepare the fish, if you prefer not to have him prepare it. Picked up some fried Cod tonight for dinner and it was perfect. Loved the breading and cooked just right.

First time customer today. Arrived about 3:00pm to place an order for beer battered cod, to pick up at 5:00 pm Everything was bright, clean and very organized. Ok one of the first responders at their lunch. Mcgowen's the shrimp are better then perfectly cooked. Really, unless you have one to compare to another you wont understand. These are some of the best cooked shrimp I have EVER had. Meaty texture not rubbery, not under or over cooked. NOW, warning.... they are PEEL and eat. Which if you are not familiar with it, you peel the shell yourself, BUT you also have to go along the top to "devein it" before you eat it. So that being said, I would like a little side dish to put the peelings in and wash out the stuff from de veining it. ORRRRRR, it would be cool if for lazy folks like me you also offer ones that are peeled and deveined. (Maybe too much work for them at the moment, since at 1:15 they are slammed on the first day.) Oyster shooter..... holy crap batman..... I may be able to have these as a shot with a beer. Really good. Blackened Grouper Sandwich, yes I know its pricey for a sandwich, but I really wanted to go full monty on my first trip. Next time it will be their more reasonably priced Salmon. Not saying their prices are out of line, merely that ocean farmed raised Salmon is much less expensive than line caught fishes. (I am told by the owner that ocean farmed raised is an open water type farm, as opposed to an enclosure, type of farm, so that overcrowding and other concerns with "Farm raised" fish are reduced or eliminated. I would like to learn more about this but am making the point here in an edit.) I can not comment on the other items on the menu other than by listening in (eavesdropping on my neighbors sitting at this family style table setting) and without a photo, let me say NOT an unhappy face in the crowd. ---Update, the Salmon is outrageously good.--- read more

Just opened on 5/21/2019 so stopped in to look around and... what a surprise! It is beautiful inside and out and the food selections available for purchase look amazing. It is mainly a seafood market but they also sell some prepared foods and wine. The biggest surprise of all was there elegant party room where they will cater functions and plan to have occasional prefix meal events as I understand it. Their website is well done and they also have a very nice Facebook page. I recommend getting on their email list. read more

The fish is fresh and has a good flavor. The service however leaves much to be desired. Several months ago I stopped in for salmon and tried to place an order for crab cakes. The clerk stated that they only do crab cakes once a month (true!) and that she didn't know when that would be. I mentioned that the crab cakes were due to be in the following week and asked to be put on the list. The clerk stated there was no list and insisted on finding a calendar for me so I "would know when crab cake day is ". She never found it and I just left without placing an order. This month I saw they were going to be in after the Christmas holiday and placed an order online for two gluten free cakes (allergy). My order was verified by the store's FB administrator. When I arrived to pick up the cakes, however, I was told that I had not been put down for gluten free and that there were no extras. I was offered a non-gluten free option but due to my allergy had to decline. I very clearly stated in my online order that gluten free was necessary. This same issue has happened to a coworker of mine. I like their food, but having had two service issues in a row I feel it's not worth the drive anymore. read more

Great spot to get some whole fish or good quality filets of salmon, tuna, and bass. They also sell a variety of pre-made salads and dried goods. The price is a little high for goods but I will be coming back for special occasions. They apparently do catering services which is nice to know. read more

Leslie McGowan, the owner, graciously helped assure the order would be delivered and even offered to take it herself! So glad to have a fish place around here. With the current situation worldwide, we had to place our order to go. No worries, we adjust. This place is very new and hopefully, soon, we can actually sit inside and see what the real ambience is like. We ordered the Slammin' Salmon Burger and the blackened walleye sandwich. Both VERY good! I'd much enjoy the salmon burger with a side order of seasoned fries, for sure! Husband had and thoroughly enjoyed the walleye. We also ordered the tiger shrimp and lemongrass soup. Not a fan of lemongrass, but this was ON POINT!!! So. Flippin'. Good.!!!!! I'd love to try their crab cakes next, but I'd have to plan ahead as this restaurant is a bit of a drive for us. I love their fresh daily fish, particularly the Faroe Island salmon. Chef will give you tips on how to prepare or you can buy meal kits with all you need. I have also picked up a bottle of wine there to complete my meal. I highly recommend McGovern's for their high quality fish. read more

I stopped here to grab something to grill for dinner. The product and customer service were top notch. The owner's enthusiasm for their budding business was even better, they tell you exactly where the fish come from. They even taught me the best ways to prepare what I chose. My husband said it was better than any we've had at a restaurant and we are choosey about where we order fish. They also offer some incredibly delicious, fresh and creative veggie salads.
