We have driven past the Michigan City exit hundreds of times. Last week we were on our way from lower Michigan to Wisconsin and decided to spend the night in Indiana to avoid a big storm north of Chicago. A man and two women at the motel said they were going to Bartlett's Fish Camp for great sea food. Curious, we found the quaint restaurant near the marina on Lake Michigan. What a find. Great ambiance, great service and a wonderful menu. Sherry loves crab cakes, and said these were the best she ever had. I chose swordfish, which is hard to find in the Midwest. We were both delighted with the experience. Now we have include a stop in Michigan City on our trips to Michigan. read more

We ordered the shrimp and crab dip and the trio ceviche for appetizers and both were amazing. I ordered the walleye entree special and it was delicious! My husband had the lobster roll and it was good as well. We sat on the deck and enjoyed the weather. Our waiter was outstanding. read more

Excellent prepared fish. We had Blackened cod and walleye. Service OK once seated. Be prepared to wait at peak dinner time after 5. Bar service will be provided. Like most places around here, they do not stay open late. Check closing time before going. The have a large patio and it's beautiful to sit out here for dinner during sunset. The menu has lots of great options with a variety of seafood, sandwiches, apps and pasta. I went with the specials menu and and everything was delicious! I ate artic char fish over quinoa with tomato basil cream sauce. There is also a great kids menu offered if needed. The server was helpful and speedy, but the food did take a very long time to arrive. Almost an hour for 4 adults to get their food. My friends and I went here yesterday for my birthday and while the food was good a the older blonder waitress from a different area negatively impacted our night. To start off my friend brought her baby in and the lady comes by and proceeds to touch her hair, face and hands and my friend had to repeatedly ask her to not touch her baby and when she finally heard her response was "well damn" and walked off. Sadly it didn't end there, she proceeds to tell almost every person after that walks by our table to "not touch the baby" and it made us very uncomfortable for the rest of the evening. I would think in this day and age it's common courtesy not to touch other people's babies especially ones you don't know. Overall the service and our waiter was good but that one situation really affected our evening. read more

The four of us dined in on a Saturday evening at 5 pm and we were immediately seated. We shared a bowl of clam chowder, fresh fried clam strips, and fish and chips. The portion sizes are standard. The clam chowder was very light in flavor and the fried clam strips had an abundance of breading. I thought the cole slaw with the fish and chips was an excellent way to cut into all the fried food and batter. As we wrapped up our meal around 6 pm, we noticed there was a short wait to be seated. The restaurant was not fully seated at the time so perhaps the move was to allow the wait staff some breathing room and not be overwhelmed with the dinner rush. read more

We put our names in for a table of 3. We were told to wait for 25 minutes. We waited for 40 minutes and could see the restaurant was busy and understood that it might take longer. When we went to ask how much longer they told us we weren't even in the queue. They then tried giving us a table for only 21 and up which we could not accept as a member of our group was not of age. At the end of the day I waited almost an hour to be given a table that we couldn't even accept. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANT IVE EVER HAD! For starters, my wife and I had the lobster and crab dip. I was creamy, garlicky, and had plenty of other flavors. The bread and crackers they give you to eat it with were amazing too. For entrees, I had the scallop bucatini, which had the best scallops I've ever had. Everything is fresh, coming in from the east coast daily. The pasta sauce was rich and creamy, the mushrooms were perfect, the tomatoes in it were cooked to perfection, and the pasta itself was cooked perfectly. My wife had the lobster roll, and that was amazing too. The filling with that bread combination is absolutely delicious. The service was great, and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Additional charge was not mentioned when I requested the extra sauce and I did not see it on the menue. Do not agree with this type "business model". Run up a $200+ tab and get nickle and dimed for a teaspoon amount of tarter sauce. Pretty sure I will not go back. read more

I have lived in MC most of my life and I can't believe this was my first time here. I had crab cakes to start, I ate so fast I didn't take a picture but they were delicious. Serving came with 2 cakes. I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos and lobster Mac and Cheese. I clearly ordered way too much food but I'm so excited to have left overs. Everything was cooked perfectly and the seafood didn't have that "I've been frozen" taste or texture. Very tasty meal. I will be back. Sat at the bar and service was perfect. My father is homebound with dementia. He has always loved the shrimp basket at Fish Camp. We have tried to get him an order to go on a few occasions. Only to be told no by the female manager. My husband even offered to sit and order drinks while waiting. This too was denied. This is unacceptable service for our elderly loved ones in our community. Someday they will get old and feeble too. Then the owner might get some empathy. Not to mention some service skills, business sense and common decency. read more

The only reason it's a 2 star is because the food was very good. We (two person table) were at our table for 2 hours and 20 minutes, and not because we were slowly ordering and enjoying ourselves. Service was abysmal and almost nonexistent. Once we finally ordered drinks and appetizers, the drinks took 5+minutes to arrive and the appetizer came out at a reasonable time. We waited about an hour and a half for our entrees after ordering. We were finally told "our ticket was still pretty far back" 45 minutes after ordering. Wife's second wine took about 10 minutes to get, once we were able to finally order it. We had to ask for napkins/silverware after our appetizer was almost gone. No apologies until the last minute when it came time to finally pay bill (and tip). read more

Only negative issue that we had recently was that our appetizer took so long, like 35 minutes that we decided to cancel it, because we knew our meals would be out soon. The waiter was super weird about it and instead of being concerned about his customers or even getting a manager, he felt the most important thing for him to do was to show us a print out of his ticket to prove that he had submitted our appetizer order in a timely manner and show that, consequently, the delay was not his fault. My family has been enjoying Fish Camp for several years. Of the four of us two love seafood, and two do not. This can be a tricky place for those that don't enjoy seafood... it is Fish Camp after all. But there are several solid non seafood choices - burger, steak frites, chicken schnitzel, plus you can get the lobster Mac without the lobster. The oysters Rockefeller are awesome. One of my kids always requests them for her birthday dinner. The seafood bouillabaisse is my husband's favorite. Steak, chicken, scallops, shrimp, I always find something I like. The cocktails are always tasty too. Sitting outside when the weather is nice is great. You can bring your dog on the deck also. The only downside is the service can be slow, but we just make sure to go when we have time to hang out and enjoy each others company and it's fine. read more

My wife and I came in with the plan of splitting some apps and stuck to that until we saw the opportunity for Lobster Risotto . So, we had some Oysters, some Clam Chowder and then decide to go out of the comfort zone with the Octopus. We then finished with the Risotto and washed it down with some Blackberry Smash's. Food was EXCELLENT. Clam Chowder was packed with flavor. The Oyster were good ( my wife loved them and I'm still learning to) , we had two varieties but they offered even more. As for the Octopus it was good, loved the char on it. But i have some issues with texture and visuals so for me I wouldn't order again but it tasted good and the Fig (jam? ) it had with it was very good. It was a Greek version. The Lobster Risotto was heavenly and I savored every bight. So good! Our server was really great, she was knowledgeable,patient and very friendly. The tomato sauce with the orzo really complimented the dish. The togarashi salmon tasted decent but I was surprised the salmon seemed heavily fried - it was hard to taste any seasoning on the fish. The brown sauce carried the dish but even that flavor felt mellow and the dish just felt flat. Gabrielle our servers was great however, the manager Angie was not. We understood the 25 minute wait being it's a holiday weekend and there are 5 of us. After only 20-25 minutes we sat down. We waited a little bit for our drinks from the bar which was fine because we had water. We placed our food order about 2:25-2:30. After an hour with minimal communication about the wait our food comes out, but only 3 of 5 dishes. The others came out a few minutes later. We had to ask for the other side dishes that we had ordered that apparently died in the window while waiting on the other entrees. When we spoke to the manager Angie, all we were told were excuses, and then she asked me " what do you want me to do about it?" Now I've been a restaurant manager for 25 years myself and that is the rudest thing you can say to anyone that has complained about waiting over an hour for their entire order. ZERP APOLOGIES from the manager, who I think was actually an hourly employee/manager serving tables as well. Our compensation for the ridiculous wait for food was a dessert. Not an I'm sorry, not replacing anything cold because they didn't ask, nothing but a dessert. So if the manager on duty treats everyone that has a complaint like this. You're going to chase your business to your competitors. I know I won't be back. And I brought first time customers that feel the same about their first impression of the restaurant.
