This appointment was useless. I've been here before and don't know really why I went back except they were close to my residence. I feel like I just wasted my money on this appointment. Went in for what I though was a splinter. I was told I would have to go to an orthopedist for the removal since it was a cyst. They were also going to prescribe some medication for my eyelashes falling out but wanted my eye doctor to approve since I have glaucoma. When I asked for a form to send my eye doctor for his approval, the doctor then met me at the exit desk and whispered that the medication may cause some damage to my glaucoma. I've had good experience in the past, but not today, unfortunately. The Nurse Practitioner was more concerned about me coming back for more appointments than the issue at hand, was more concerned about my hair dye - even though 3x said no issue w/ scalp. Had some extremely small spots frozen (as we were looking at skin issue) - less than 30 seconds - was charged $122 for that when leaving. Also the girl checking me out was in a mood and didn't like me asking questions about the charge. Also - was not told about the Rx prescribed - not the name - just "instructions will be on the label" and she was out of there. It's a shame - had liked the last times I went. I just wasted a half of day of work/life to go to my appointment with some concerns I had been waiting to get looked at (cancer?). I had talked with them and with my PCP and had confirmed my referral was done. I arrived to be treated like crap by the front desk gal who was also training a new person. She called "the referral gal" and said I could not be seen unless I paid out of pocket as this was not referred properly. After several calls to my PCP, they said I was fine to see them today and that it had all been worked out. I go back in to the office. The front desk gal was rude and dismissive. I told her that their referral person (gave the name) had approved me. The receptionist said she just spoke with her and "no". I said to please call. After that, she was angry and then said it was approved but suddenly said I could not be seen as it was too late at this time. I arrived 25 min early and it was only 15 min after my appointment from all the bs but she was not going to budge. I should have spoke to the manager but I could not contain my anger based on her rudeness so at that point I said I would find another dermatologist with a professional team and left. read more

This place is a scam trying anything to take your money. Be careful. They will tell you that your insurance can't cover prescriptions and get you to pay for items you can get covered by your insurance. They will do "special tests" that are also out of pocket. After waiting in the room (in a gown) for 30 minutes I decided to leave. When I told them I needed to get back to work the employee got snarky with me and told me to "wait 5 more minutes." I had a laser appointment book for over a month. Apparently the girl I was booked with quit, but nobody bothered to contact me a notify me that my apt was cancelled and that they didn't have a replacement. When I called the office they were not sincere or apologetic. I was incredibly frustrated that I had left work early for this appointment. I should've known when they kept me waiting for 45 minutes for consult. I will not be going back. Terrible customer service. read more

I would give a 0 star if I could. Beware of this place, Save your time and money, they false charge you. I went to see the doctor for my acne, she came in and gave me a tropical cream for 3 months the receptionist charged me the copay but they charged my insurance for an out patient procedure. Later I received a huge bill in my mail. I contacted them but they were rude and didn't help in any way. They sent me mail if I do not pay they will send this to collections. Please make sure of what you pay for and ask precisely how much? and why it is needed? I have never seen these ridiculous acts by any doctor's office. read more

I decided to give the new Murphy location a try as its minutes from my home. Dr.Hodges is very nice and it was a smooth check in. I get apprehensive when meeting a new dermatologist, I have seen Dr. Natalie Wright when I lived in Plano and my skin cleared within a month. I have been to other providers before McGuiness Dermatology that prescribed me things that were ineffective. I came in seeking a way to treat my current concerns, I'm Latina and African American and the random hairs on my face caused concerns for me. I have done laser hair removal a year ago with success and was stubborn that it was time to take care of my new problem. The assistant took a before photo and I'm excited to see my skin change back to normal just in time for an upcoming trip! read more

I saw Dr Hodges with my son she had to do an expensive biopsy, the next day I took him to Urgent care and they diagnosed the same as Dr Hodges. I did not get the results for a week. She also knew my husband was a physician. I went to Dr Hodges for malasma on my face, she then RX'd a prescription for rosacea, she goes through a compounding pharmacy in Allen, which there's one down the street. I know this because my plastic surgeon wanted me to pick up the prescription closed to me. Why would she send me to Allen??? Who knows, may be she's bought into that pharmacy so she can get a kick back. I really don't know, that's peer speculation. The only thing I can say is I would never go to this dermatologist office. Nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more

Dr Hodges is awesome! Very knowledgeable and compassionate. Have been taking the whole family for several years. Would highly recommend her. However, the Aesthetic side of the practice needs help. After purchasing the 3 treatment laser hair removal package, trying to schedule the third treatment, I have discovered there is no record of offering or purchasing the package and all treatments are at full price. Will be purchasing on Groupon with an appropriate document trail at a significantly better price. read more

Overall, the doctors and assistants are great and answer questions thoroughly. However, they are impossible to get ahold of. I am currently on accutane, and if you've ever been on that you know how lengthy that process is just to get the meds. Trying to call to confirm that they got my blood work so i can get the medication, they have never answered the phones. Not once. I try to call multiple times a day just in case they are on break, but no one answers. I have to physically go to the office (not any where near where i live now) to ask them when they are going to send the order to the pharmacist. 100% of the time they haven't even looked at the blood work after a week even though it should have been done within 2 days. It's honestly trying to pull teeth to get them to process everything in the time frame I was given. Once I have everything confirmed then it's usually smooth sailing, until my next appointment. read more

Went in to have a bump on my face looked at. The Physician assistant looked at it and said oh that is a Mila it will be $150 to have it removed. I asked about a few other skin spots and she rushed through and said a total of 10 words to me. Called off what they would cost to have them removed and asked sharply if I wanted to pay to have them removed. I told them I would need to wait and she just walked out of the room. She was in my room for a total of 5 minutes. It felt like all they wanted to know is if I would pay with no regard for if anything was bothering me. That 10 min conversation cost me $75 copay, I will not be back even if I do decide to have them removed. read more

I have had so many issues in the past with the staff being rude, them emailing with a time change to my appointment on the same day, that I did not request and having to wait in the waiting room for 45+ minutes for my appointment. Love this office and the staff! First of all it is beautifully decorated as if you are walking into a home and the front office staff was professional and courteous. Nurses in the back had a great bed manner! They sent me over to the cosmetic nurse for a free consult and she was very helpful. I'm looking forward to coming back! I called to schedule a new patient appointment, my initial conversation the girl had never heard of my insurance. She had me email a copy of the front and back of my card so she could contact her billing department. I called the day before my scheduled appointment after 1PM because it still hadn't been confirmed and the girl I spoke with on the phone confirmed my insurance was good and I explained to her it was supposed to be billed. Show up early to my appointment and was told that they collect allowed amount up front, even after I had confirmed over the phone it was billed. My insurance is out of network so it is supposed to be billed to them first. I left, and won't return due to the waste of my time and lack of obvious communication among the organization. read more

Usually a patient at the Plano location, but my dermatologist was booked this week so I opted to go to McGuiness in Murphy instead. This practice is just as fantastic as their counterpart. Polite, professional, caring doctors and staff who listen to their patients. Would recommend! read more

Very unprofessional, just want to rip off your money. i went there on Apr, 10 to remove a skin mark similar to a wart on my face. First of all, my app. was supposed to be with a doc. but a physician ass. was the one to meet and not dr. Mcguiness. the physician ass. recommended freezing it. I wanted to do it at once but she said it's better to start easy and repeat later. She NEVER mentioned about charges not even her staff. She went ahead quickly picked up the freezing machine next to her and used it for me. on my way out to check out nurse charged me for $115 for the freezing treatment + $226 for other skincare items that I found online for nearly half the price. I missed my 3 weeks followup. I forgot and they didn't bother to remind me as most reputable clinics do. I called a reschedualed and I went back today. They wanted to charge me for freezing the wart AGAIN. What I paid should be for treating the entire thing completely. I argued with the front desk but they refused to complete the treatment without having me pay AGAIN. I wanted to do it all at once from the beginning but that was the physician assist. suggestion of course to rip me off. Now i ended up that my wart is still there and I have to pay again to someone else to remove it for me. I'm disputing this charge from my credit card. read more

One of the things we face today is society turning to social media first air grievances. So I will preface this review with the fact that I reached out to McGuiness twice to hopefully speak with Dr. McGuiness first. As I did not receive a phone call back, it just further illustrates that this practice is either too busy or their patients serve in a "one off" capacity to them. I cannot speak to the other facilities, as our experience was with the Murphy location, and with only two people at that location, to be fair. We were only interested in acne relief for my daughter. Not only does it hurt her confidence mentally, it affects her physically when she has cystic acne breakouts. The first visit they attempted to remedy this very passively...fine...they're the experts-right?. My daughter then inquired about Accutane. They explained its complicated and there are side effects, etc. Great, let's get going-let the relief begin. Long story short...here we are 7 MONTHS later, and still no medication. McGuiness dermatology was not the ambassador they should have been during this confusing process. Yesterday, we were supposed to be in and out with a final urine test, as 30 days prior my daughter had her blood drawn to prove there was no pending pregnancy..this is all regulated and run by the government-which is fine. When we went in for the "quick" test, it turned into a 45 minute wait, for them to then tell us WE did something wrong, it'd be ANOTHER 30 days, WE didn't get "some follow up finished"...that iPledge won't accept OUR last blood test. None of this made sense, and after working with them for 7 MONTHS I told them I wanted all of my daughters records, we were going somewhere who could help us. I really couldn't listen one more time about their "75 successful patients on Accutane." The lack of accountability was sending me into orbit and the fact that the nurse, or whoever she was, speaking over me in a very inappropriate tone. Her not having a better bedside manner in this instance was unnerving to me, then Dr Hodges, got up and left after she was finished pleading her case. This case Dr Hodges was a massive fail...not to mention, you should have done your homework on YOUR patient. Here's the kicker---when I called iPledge, turns out McGuiness never sent my daughters blood work in January. They flat out lied to us, AFTER blaming US. How's that for customer service. read more

I was looking for a new dermatologist and thought I would try this location and Dr. Hodges. The front desk was nice and the assistant was nice and asked lots of questions and I was feeling relatively comfortable until Dr. Hodges came in. She barely spoke, barely answered any of my questions, and when I told her I was here to get a 2nd opinion on some spots my GP had concern about and had recommended to wait 4 weeks and then biopsy if they were not any better, she seemed uninterested in my even being there. When I mentioned several times that I had a history of skin and other cancers in my family, not once did she ask who or what kind. When I told her I was suppose to be getting a mapping and mold check, she argued that wasn't what she had been told and I had to make it clear that was the appointment I had made. She begrudgingly did it with no mapping what so ever. When I asked about the biopsy that could be done, she stated that my time was up for this visit and that "you and your GP and I already had a plan of action" and then proceeded to leave the room and mentioned over her shoulder that she would have done the biopsy today. Not once during the visit after looking at the lesions did she ever say that a biopsy should be done. So, after waiting for 4 weeks to get an appointment for the 2nd opinion, absolutely nothing was done and I was angry and still had questions and the most I got was a print out of web sites for me to do some research. I came to get answers to my questions, not homework. The only real positive thing I can say was that the assistant took the time to answer a majority of my questions in the hallway before I checked out. But, needless to say, there is no way that I would come back to this office or Dr. Hodges for any procedure what so ever. As anyone with cancer or other skin problem knows, if you don't have a good dermatologist in your corner that will take the time to listen to you and answer your questions and concerns, then you will be in for nothing but trouble down the line if something serious occurs. I read that her background was in clinical research and it was very obvious since her people skills were so lacking. I immediately saw another dermatologist and it was the polar opposite of my experience with McGuiness Dermatology. This dermatologist could not stop asking me questions and getting information from me. And when I left some more questions and concerns in an email to their office, she called me on a Saturday evening to address my concerns and even gave me her personal number if I had more questions. This is the type of dermatologist you want in your corner if something become serious. read more
