Jeanne Zimmerman represented the owner of our condo. Contrary to the other reviews here by tenants, we had a pretty reasonable set of interactions with her - both when we moved in, where she was prompt in communicating between us and the owner, and when we decided to move out where she was responsible for letting the unit again. We had a bit of disagreement with the owner, who was very upset about some marks we had left on the countertop and was trying to deduct an addition several hundred dollars to replace it. Jeanne stepped in, found a cleaner who could take care of it for $50 or so, and that was that. We're appreciative to Jeanne for intermediating and de-escalating a small issue that could potentially have blown up into something much more annoying. read more

Jeanne Zimmermann is a poisonous snake, unethical person and has 0 interest in the health, safety or legal interest of tenants or the landlords for whom she manages property. I had the extreme misfortune of doing business with Jeanne, who worked with me to rent an apartment at the 1 Federal Building. The apartment had severe maintenance issues [broken toilet, electrical issues, drier vents that hadn't been cleaned in years and had backed up lint to the top of the closet, broken fireplace, etc]. After providing the punch list of issues, Jeanne recommended that I hire maintenance people and charge back the landlord, which required many days of waiting at home for repair people to show up [this required 1 week of vacation time from work - I was a tenant, not the property manager, but she happily outsourced all the leg work to me]. After two weeks of living in the apartment, I noticed a strong chemical smell coming from the closet. In subsequent weeks, I become more and more sick, eventually ending up with full body inflammation, many symptoms and requiring a 3 month disability leave from work to recover from a chemical exposure. My mother came to visit and her eyes swelled shut and had to go to the emergency room. I moved out that day. Jeanne was aware of the chemical contamination in the apartment and that I had become severely ill living there. She did 0 follow up to see if I was okay or to see what was causing the chemical contamination. In fact she put the apartment back on the market 3 hours after I moved out, putting the next tenant in severe danger of experiencing chemical poisoning. People were showing up to see the apt literally the afternoon that I moved on. Jeanne is a sick individual and certainly not someone you would ever want to be involved with and certainly not do business with. Steer clear. read more

We had an interaction with Jeanne Zimmerman at McGuire that was extremely unprofessional and left a bad taste. We had viewed a rental unit with McGuire and put in an application. After our application was approved, we requested a draft lease for review. Less than 24 hours of receiving it, we let Jeanne know that we would not be moving forward. Rather than ask us if we would mind sharing what contributed to our decision, she responded rudely with a guilt trip. She went on about how they'd turned away other parties, and accused us of "casting a wide net". When we didn't respond to her first email within 4 hours, in the middle of a work day, she emailed us yet again and doubled down on her approach. She further attempted to guilt us into a response by letting us know they had spent "a lot of time drawing up the documents" and to write back. We were shocked by the lack of professionalism, and we won't be doing business with McGuire in the future as a result. We would have likely responded, at our convenience, if her approach had been more professional rather than accusatory and demanding. read more

Unpleasant experience overall, but got the job done. I'd like to use this review to give an accurate description of dealing with Jeanne Zimmermann (Director of Leasing) of McGuire Real Estate. The other reviews here have been overwhelmingly negative, so I thought I'd give an objective assessment of her services for the benefit of prospective clients. My first contact with Jeanne occurred over an extended email exchange in which she made my roommate and me sign a property entry advisory declaration (due to COVID) and tried to make sure that we weren't wasting her time. She reiterated the last point over the phone, and seemed quite insistent on us being able to make an acceptable offer if we were going to view the property. All this is fine -- it's understandable that real estate agents would want to take extra precautions during a pandemic, and that someone of Jeanne's age would want to minimize her risk of exposure to the virus due to time wasters. At the viewing Jeanne was courteous and pleasant, and answered all of our questions satisfactorily. However, after we signed the lease agreement we immediately detected a big shift in her attitude towards dealing with us. She became harder to reach via text/email, and would sound annoyed when we were actually able to connect with her over the phone. When one of my roommates asked for some clarification about the instructions for wiring over a large sum of money, she called him up and said something to the effect of "Are you kidding me? The [routing and account numbers] are in the contract" and hung up, when the question was specifically about which number was for the routing and which was for the account. In fairness to Jeanne, she claimed that it was inappropriate to contact her after hours, but she didn't have to reply to the text message right away and could have waited till the next morning instead of losing her temper over the phone. It was also very obvious that she began avoiding calls and texts from me, as my calls (which were always answered promptly before the lease was signed) were routed to voicemail and my text messages were ignored. However, when I tried calling with a different number she picked up immediately. When this was pointed out to her she came up with the excuse that she couldn't possibly have been avoiding my calls/texts because she didn't know what my number was, which is suspect considering that she had no problems calling and texting my number prior to us signing the lease agreement. She even went so far as to make a big show of claiming not to know my number in our subsequent communications, which was quite frankly bizarre. When we did get ahold of her, she would act in a passive-aggressive manner, saying things such as "let me drop everything I'm doing to answer your question." She also repeatedly claimed to be extremely busy -- too busy to reply promptly to our questions -- but this did not seem to be the case just days prior, before we signed the lease agreement and secured her commission. Lastly, she also reneged on an agreement in which she promised to reimburse our application fee if we signed the lease. When asked about the reimbursement, she brushed it off and said that she got us a $50 reduction in the rent which was worth more than the application fee. While this is true, it is also an entirely separate issue from the promised reimbursement. So, in summary: Pros: - Got the job done - Got us a small reduction in rent - Was prompt and courteous BEFORE we signed the lease agreement - Fairly knowledgeable about the real estate market Cons: - Lack of communication once her commission was secured, possibly avoiding calls/texts from clients - Very condescending tone - Reneged on an explicit promise It was a fairly unpleasant process, but overall it was handled competently (albeit not entirely professionally) and I would only recommend McGuire if you did not have a choice in the matter (which, unfortunately, you won't). read more

Lauren Fraser is a rockstar. She helped us navigate both the sale of a condo and purchase of our dream home in record time. She is full service, end to end. She is your single point of contact (love!!) and has a black book of awesome suppliers supporting her. She handled all end to end details from timing the market, painting the full condo, updating lighting fixtures and high-end staging with flowers etc. She was always streamlined for viewing appointments. Want more Evidence? She was a wedding planner and coordinator in her former life singer attention to detail is stellar. She has a strong work ethic, professionalism and her organization skills are unmatched. I feel like she should run a realtor boot camp and replicate her skills in others. Most important she was available to handle sticky situations and pivots. There are always changes in the market and she was right there with us reassessing the sell or buy strategy along the wShe had a thorough pricing and marketing strategy which resulted in selling our place in 4-days. When we found the home we loved she closed the deal in a weekend. Her suppliers are all fantastic too. Super happy and would choose her again and again. read more

I used Mcguire to purchase my house in San Francisco. After buying it, I found there was a leak in the basement of the house. Which was a concern, because my agent did not point it out. But these things happen. I asked for the disclosure package to be sent to me via mail and they refused to pay for the postage! My strong recommendation is to not use this agent or McGuire. Met Malcolm Kaufman who showed us a house when we were looking recently. Nice enough guy, but two things get this place a two star: disclosures and freakin' spam. 1. We were seriously interested in a place they were listing in Cow Hollow. Turns out it was like a block from a new half-way house that is going in on Lombard. I had to dig that up myself. Not cool. Should have been disclosed proactively. 2. I gave Malcolm my email as part of the process with the explicit instructions "DO NOT put me on any mailing lists. I do not want any marketing spam. This is just for this transaction."....totally ignored. Soon after I saw him the emails started. I asked politely to be removed...ignored. I repeated myself and said "I'll leave you a bad review on Yelp"...ignored. A third emails said "OK, bad review coming..."...I gave him to yet again to remove me...nope...ignored...still getting the spam today. I'll block, but seems like a character issue if someone cannot honor the original request and refused to honor repeated requests later on as well. I personally would not trust him again because of this. read more

I dealt with this office more on business to business basis as opposed to buyer/seller arrangement. The guys in their technology dept (yes even realtors have high tech backend systems) were are all really cool and laid back. Too bad I can't say the same about the management. I hate to give the nice guys who do all the work behind the scenes get docked a star but when you need mgmt input to get things done, and it's an unpleasant experience, I gotta factor that in. read more

My partner and I were interested in renting a unit from a McGyuire agent, Jeanne Zimmerman. Jeanne was very pleasant at first showing, then things took a turn. She was gracious enough to let us put a refundable good faith deposit down same day, so my partner could return from being out of country. We saw the unit the following Sunday, and needed a day to make the decision to rent the furnished unit. Our intentions were pure, but Jeanne texted with the sentiment she is being strung along. I reassured her that wasn't the case. After we declined the unit because it's furnished, I followed up with a message saying we are still interested if it is ever offered unfurnished. Just a friendly note. She went off. She texted a very angry message saying unfurnished will not happen. That the owner has cancer and couldn't move everything, Jeanne was handling it all. Being empathetic to that situation, I told Jeanne she herself might have the furniture moved, or we could even move it if we could deduct from rent. Then she called, paraphrasing: "please stop. This is harassment. Don't call me again." Omg stay clear of Jeanne. read more

I just had a horrible experience with Jeanne Zimmerman. I found a listing today on the website and contacted Jeanne directly to set up a showing. I politely asked if I could see the unit sometime this week because I'm leaving for vacation in a few days. She asked me what my timeline looked like and I told her I was flexible with my move in date, but would sign on the spot if I loved the apartment - which I think is VERY fair. I've lived in SF for years, and I'm very aware of how the housing market works - you bring your checkbook with you for every showing and should be prepared to sign on the spot if you love what you see. I thought this experience was heading in a positive direction after she offered to show me the place at 5 today. Once I confirmed with her, she sent me a text message complaining about being in a rush and unless I committed to a move in date, she was not going to show me the apartment until I returned from vacation. At this point, I was already on my way to the showing... Before I could respond, she angrily called me demanding that I commit to a move in date and began ranting about another person who wasted her time at a showing the other day. I'm sorry, but I did not pick up the phone to hear you complain about your job. It's also incredibly unrealistic to expect me to commit to anything before seeing the place where I'd be living. I was berated and belittled for doing absolutely nothing. I was very polite and mentioned multiple times that we didn't have to meet at the time SHE suggested, and ultimately I had to hang up on her because she was so rude. I completely understand that real estate agents deal with a lot, especially in this city, but Jeanne made me feel like a horrible person who was wasting her time, when ultimately I was just trying to accommodate her schedule. All she had to do was tell me she couldn't meet with me this week and I would have checked back in when I returned from my trip. Horrible experience, but glad it didn't go any further than this. I've been incredibly wary of using real estate agents in my search for apartments, and this really didn't ease my mind. I never write Yelp reviews, but this is deserving of one. read more

Lea Ann Fleming not only worked with us a year until we found the right condo, she did the hard work to make sure we got what we thought we were getting. I read the CCRs and looked at the condo map and they seemed ok to my inexperienced eye (never having bought a condo before). Lea Ann read every disclosure and looked carefully at the map and found that the deck of our unit was not shown on the map and the CCRs did not mention it for our exclusive use. Because she found this, the outdated CCRs were completely redone and the condo map was amended prior to closing so that now we have insured title to everything we purchased. Any agent can show you properties. But you want one who is thoroughly professional and looking out for your best interests. That's Lea Ann Fleming. She gave us great advice on neighborhoods, building features and many things we would not have considered. And then she made sure all the detailed documentation was right, which in our case saved us from headaches that would have occurred after the close and when we want to sell years from now. read more

This is a 5 star review for McGuire agent Robin Dustan. I'd give her more if I could. When my wife and I discovered we were going to having our first child we knew it was time to get out of our postage stamp condo and into a home we could grow into. Our search had a time limit but 9 months seemed ample to find a place and get settled even in the city of San Francisco...WRONG. The bubble apparently never burst in this city and once we started looking we discovered that it's trench warfare round these parts. Even when we raised our budget by hundreds of thousands of dollars and extended our search to areas we really didn't want to live we still couldn't land a place. To help illustrate my point my FastTrak bill went from tens of dollars to hundreds during this period because we were constantly traversing the bay area attending open houses. We were working with multiple agents during this time that each specialized in different areas and during one particular moment of exasperation our Marin agent (Robin Glazer..also very awesome) asked us what we really wanted. We said to say in San Francisco but added that due to our budget it was barely being considered. It was a pipe dream and then she asked if she could refer us to Robin Dustan over at McGuire. We humored the referral by saying that we already had 2 agents in SF that had never taken us out and email us listings every few weeks with homes that were either way too expensive or required that we buy at the top of our budget then perform extensive renovations. We were now about 3 months from our due date and willing to try anything so we met with Robin Dustan and told her what we were looking for. She explained her process and set our expectations very realistically (this was a first). She started taking us out 2 times per week and we quickly noticed she was showing us stuff we were not seeing online. About 2 weeks in and BAM! Robin showed us the perfect house, in our price range in a neighborhood we gave up on months before. Now, I realize that we got lucky and Robin told us that the searching process could take up to a year (worst case) but this is where we really saw her value. Robin has a lot of experience and it showed in so many ways: 1) She not only knew the listing agent but you could tell the lister really liked her. At one point we over heard her telling Robin "I really hope I get to work with you on this sale". 2) She explained the situation perfectly for us to understand. That the house was under priced to induce a bidding war. She gave us all the information to help us make the right bid for us, then wrote up the offer quickly and submitted ours first. 3) 5 offers came in and 3 were offered counter offers, our was one of the 3. Robin carefully explained all of the stipulations so we would understand what we were agreeing to and even suggested that we write a letter to owners that honestly told our story and what roll his home would play in the building of our family. This approach to me was genius. 4) Our offer was accepted! All the way through the process from the time we first met Robin until she handed us the keys she was always in constant communication. She never made us feel rushed, she never pushed, and was always so patient in explaining the details even if they were probably second nature to her. We moved into our new home 3 weeks before the birth of our son and by the time he came we have settled in enough that we could concentrate on him and not the house. Robin did it! Robin Dustan made a very intimidating process not only seem easy but all-in-all rather fun and exciting. If I ever buy another home in the bay area she'll be my first call and if you're looking for a referral she'd be the first one I would make. read more

My girlfriend just began to rent a place from these people. There were two women involved, neither names which i cared to remember. They treated us like dirt. Rude emails, condescending comments. We are a bit younger, however have money, and they frowned upon us because of this. At least keep your comments to yourself. But no, they were openly rude and so smug about it. Professional? No. Big No. We were very polite regardless of their subliminal attacks, yet they continued to demean us. I can only pray that communication between them and my girlfriend will remain at a minimum during her time renting from them. I have had the pleasure of working with Kate Stoll on two SF rental properties. I went into this process with apprehension but Kate put us at total ease. She understands her clients, listens and is completely aware of the SF market. She returns e mails and phone calls promptly within 15 minutes of time placed and is on top of her game. Kate had both properties rented within 2 days. She goes over and above as we worked with a contractor for a remodel and she stepped in and made sure everything moved along smoothly. This is a review of one of Mcguirre's agents -- Winnie Fok. I recently bought a house in which the selling agent was Winnie. She was extremely pushy during the buying process. But the worst part is that she outright lied to us during the process. After we closed, we did not get the keys to the mailbox, side doors, and backdoor (a total of 5 keys). We only got one key to the front door. So we had to re-key everything since we couldn't even get our mail. Further , she mentioned the sellers wanted to take "a few lights". We were okay with that but when we moved in we found they had removed almost every single light. Then they left a dirty , disgusting used toilet in the yard and left the place totally dirty. We had to clean am the whole place again at our own cost. We tried to contact Winnie to resolve these issues after we moved in but Winnie did not work with us or help us at all. Know your rights when renting in San Francisco, especially with this company. 1. had to break lease and gave 60+ days notice. 2. paid mcguire the listing fee of near 2500 dollars as part of agreement, and request from landlord. 3. check was mailed to wrong office and deposited, but the other office wasn't alerted, my open house was not scheduled and my listing not posted until i followed up and had to send transaction proof. 4. mcguire drew up the original lease and complained that my cats would be at the open house "as they were not notified there were animals and it is too late to cancel the open house, how do i plan to resolve?". apparently no one shows homes with pets? 5. was not offered a preliminary walk through to assess any thing i needed to do to secure deposit, and did not know that was my right until after being told i'm going to take a 2K hit on my security deposit. 6. no one at the reality company told me i was responsible (beyond rent) to care for houseplants that are being deducted from my deposit. I rented the apartment as unfurnished. 7. i requested a walk through, and when my cleaning crew informed me they would be a 1/2 hour late with the finish I received a rude email stating that no walkthrough would be done unless the cleaning crew was gone, knowing i was in a hotel and vacating the state the following morning. as a result i could not get an in person walk through, unless i emailed at a particular time to say the crew was gone at which point availability was not guaranteed. 8. the inspection was done without me there, and since there was no prelim walk through i got saddled with bills against the security deposit (250 dollars worth are for the aforementioned houseplants which aren't being replaced). 9. at the time of rental i was instructed that to secure the apartment I should increase my bid proactively, not cool. 10. i was charged rent when i wasn't living in the apartment after it was confirmed rented before i left the state. so many of these things fall under a gray area of "wear and tear" but i am sure I was not supposed to pay rent after vacating, and also sure someone should have informed me from the company before charging me (at the increased rent rate for the new tenant). whole thing was shady, and the service was rude and condescending. i would never use them had I not be required to. read more

In passing, I mentioned that my husband and I were interested in getting a bigger place in Russian Hill and had a lot of requirements that we needed in order to make the move. The agent I talked to, Karstin, was nice enough. But I did not like the way their leasing office treated us. They charged us 50$ to run a credit check and eventually we did not get the place, even though I have shown my bank statement that has more money than what they required. They could not give two shits about us. They stopped answering calls or replying emails. Which I don't think they even ran the credit check! They didn't even have two minutes of their precious time to call us back to explain the situation?! I am beyond pissed. Do not use them! read more
