If you know cars, avoid Matt's Motor Works. I booked him for walnut blasting, confirmed days in…read moreadvance, and only at the last minute did he tell me he was a mobile mechanic. Walnut blasting isn't something you do mobile --nor is it recommended for outdoor use near homes or neighbors due to the difficulty of containing the airborne dust and debris. He showed up unprepared, hoping I'd settle for a chemical intake cleaner instead. He burned 30+ minutes talking about car trivia, pulled a spark plug with the battery still connected and the engine hot (a rookie mistake that risks real damage), and then tried running an OBD2 scan with a dead reader. None of this addressed the service I asked for--only to buy time, which he then charged me $65 for, based on what he thought was right. Transparency wasn't there from start to finish. In the end, I rearranged my schedule, got no real work done, and paid for wasted time. From preparation to honesty to execution--everything fell short. To make matters worse, my trusted mechanic later confirmed the spark plug threads were stripped from his work.

would strongly caution anyone considering this business...They were very friendly over the phone…read moreand initially seemed helpful in person, but the experience quickly went downhill. The "diagnosis" amounted to briefly checking and SMELLING the gas cap, yet we were charged $150 for that alone. Afterward, we were told we owed an additional $75 that had not been clearly discussed upfront. When we questioned the extra charge, we were told the balance could be sent to collections, which felt unnecessarily aggressive given the situation. The biggest issue was the lack of transparency around pricing and what services were actually being performed. If you do choose to work with them, I highly recommend getting a detailed quote in writing before agreeing to anything. Overall, this was a frustrating experience that left us feeling taken advantage of during an already stressful time. So disappointing. EDIT: Sent threats and called me names after leaving this review... Screenshots attached. Saw his reply To this post, we sent $75 before you came and $75 after you showed up. That would be $150. Then, sent you the other $75 today after you decided to cuss out my boyfriend and threatened him multiple times. Not sure where the hostility towards us came from, but I do hope this review helps others save their time, energy and money from dealing with someone like yourself.

I told him what happened and I couldn't help but cry because this was during Covid I was pretty much homeless with my husband living at the Drake Motel and had no income. (I was on a job hunt and my husband's disabled) I got the call saying it is my alternator but ALSO was given the best news I could have that not only touched my heart but helped me remember..."There ARE kind people out there still." Their own employee Carlos along with Mike I believe paid for the alternator and the labor with the money in their own pockets!!! I totally trust these guys and have been taking all my cars here for years and honestly never felt they try to take advantage of me. If I did I would remove my car and leave a poor review. They may be a little more expensive than some but I think you pay for what you get. In my industry we have a sign in out office that reads fast, cheap or good... pick two because you can't get all three. I have tried another shop in McHenry a few years ago that a friend recommended. The car was there for 3 days and I called because I hadn't heard anything. They stated that they were going to look at it the next day ( 4 working days later). I picked it up and brought it to North Town and was driving it two days later. I really have never had a bad experience here and do trust them.
