Sellers: Just be advised that before you bring anything in make sure you're willing to part with things for very very very very low prices. I had a few books that I could've sold online for 20 bucks or more and I literally got $1.13 for them and some items I didn't get anything for my items and they took them anyways and on the paper I requested it shows zero cash value. If that's the case then they should give our items back and not just automatically tag them to put out on the floor. They need to rethink their system. If they want to buy an item they need to set it aside and give us a list of hay we buy these items for this amount are you OK with it . Not just assume hey yeah we can go ahead and take this item they don't care and we give them zero for it or $.19 trade-in value. I also mentioned when I got there whatever you guys don't buy from me I'll just take back. They did have some items, most of my items since I brought three bins of movies and video games and books that they did not want. I guess they assumed I didn't want them I said yes I want them back. I asked for a printout of what I sold so I can remove them from online if I had them posted. The guy said oh we don't do that. I said you don't keep track of what you're purchasing from me? He said oh yeah OK and printed out this list and I wish I would've actually looked at it and realized a lot of items they took I got zero for they just took for free. I was not donating items to them nor did I say I was gonna donate items to them. I did buy $30 worth of stuff here (3stuffed animals and a book). I could've got $31 in cash or $70 store credit so I used $30 store credit and got $20 cash back. So I was really hoping for a lot more because I had hundreds of DVDs I just didn't want to take the time to post them online because it's time consuming. But it's just really disappointing only getting literally nothing snd them taking my items and some items maybe a dollar if Im lucky. When I got home realized when I went through the list that they took my Xbox 360 games and movies I literally got nothing for them that kind of pisses me off because I was trying to make money and some of these were worth a decent amount. One of the NEW Xbox games online is worth $25 and they literally just took it and gave me nothing for it . So I definitely will not be selling to them ever again. If they weren't gonna give me any money for my items then they should be giving them back to me. read more

Great place and good deals. When the items you buy actually work or labeled correctly. Picked up a couple of remotes for game system. One was marked wireless and it required wire that we don't have. The other did not work at all. Returned both. Ordered from Amazon. Games are about the same, poor labeling and misplaced everywhere. read more

What a place! It's huge inside! A very well organized and thought-out store full of cool stuff. There are shelves and shelves, and rows and rows of books. Shelves and rows of records. Toys,dolls,games, and odds and ends. Clothing ranging from conservative to outlandish. All for sale or trade, and all at bargain or extremely reasonable prices. When we visited, we were on the lookout for record albums, and in particular, 45 records. You know what 45's are, don't you? They're the records that have only one song on each side. Usually, the bands newest hit on side 1, and on the flipside, there'll be some crummy song that you'll probably never play again. As kids, we'd ride our bikes to the music store when there was a new release and pay 99 cents to take it home. For us, that was pretty expensive. We'd have to mow two lawns to earn it! I found exactly what I wanted up on the second floor. I was looking for an example of a 45 as my grandchildren have never seen one. I got the bargain of the day on what I found. It was a 10 record set of classical music, and it only cost me 95 cents!! 95 cents for 10 records of the most beautiful music ever composed. Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and not a scratch or a skip. Such a deal. When I was coming down the elevator, I saw folks digging through piles of Legos searching for that one particular piece to make their set complete. There was a gaggle of girls perusing the shelves of some kind of strange collectible dolls. Even the little ones had a section of toys to choose from. There's something for everyone at McKay's. Quick Tip: There are a lot of books. I mean, A lot of books! Go upstairs and look down. Tell me if it doesn't look like the Terracotta Army in China. I know, what a nut. But that's me. read more

Store is huge & seems to always be pretty busy. newer books are higher priced but still decently priced. Customer service good. Store clean. This place was 1000% worth the drive from Townsend! They have so many books, DVD's, collectibles and so much more. The cashier was friendly. The have carts at the front... just go ahead and get one on your way in... TRUST ME. Their prices are pretty good (Just be careful with some of their newer ones because they have them marked high). They sell McKay's t-shirts at the register! Remember when you go in YOU ARE SUPPORTING A BELOVED USED BOOK STORE BY BUYING HERE. They have an upstairs area with Comics and Manga but that's not my forte so I didn't go upstairs. They take books in as well and there were people in line with boxes and boxes of books when we went in. We were here 2.5 hrs and had to cut ourselves off so make sure you have plenty of time to fill that cart you should have grabbed on the way in. read more

While visiting a friend, I went to his favorite, secondhand, media store. There is nothing like this store where I live. It is HUGE. McKay's is a store that you can spend hours in. They have every sort of media from CDs to DVD to books to vinyl. You can get some complete steals there..CDs for 95 cents, DVD for $1, books for under $5. You just have to have ample time to go through the shelves and see what I'd on offer. The offerings change every time you go into the store. I can see why the friend raves about this store. As someone who is game, book, and movie obsessed, this place is the Holy Grail! Comic books, random collectibles, books galore, puzzles, video games, board games, movies, music....they truly have it all in this enormous, 2-story warehouse. If you are looking for a clean and fancy shopping space, this isn't it, but the large selection is worth the hunt. As a heads up, it can get really packed and the checkout lines long, so make sure you have ample time to search for your treasures and wait in checkout. A few things: 1. They pile free books on tables outside near the entrance. 2. Bring a box or cloth bags if you plan to get a lots of items or larger items. They have carts available for in-store use. 3. There is an elevator for stroller and wheelchair accessibility for upstairs but the crowds and tight turns can make navigation kind of tricky. read more

Employees are very rude. I will say they offer a huge selection of items; you will always find something you like. While you can get plenty of books cheaper than at an actual bookstore, you are only looking at $15 less. I love that you can give your books for money but you only get a couple dollars. I've given high priced books and they offer very little. For context, offered three Colleen Hoover books and a BOTM and got $17. They used to be better about fairness but that's declined. read more

McKay's Knoxville was my favorite place to visit in Knoxville and my first time in McKay's. So much to love about this bookstore - the free books in the outside bins to the large assortment of DVDs...absolutely delightful. We went here twice on our mini vacation in Nashville. My favorite find was a mint condition box set of vinyl records for Handel's Messiah, classical music for only $1. We had such a good time there that we planned to also visit McKay's in Nashville the next day. This place is so incredible. Loved this place when I used to live in Tennessee and I couldn't wait to visit one in a new city. 10 out of 10 would recommend! This is my favorite used book store. I just wish I had more time (and luggage) to fully appreciate this place. This one was a little less organized than the one I used to go to, so it was hard to find more than one book my the same author, but with some time I mostly found what I was looking for. Thoroughly enjoyed this store. We stopped at a crazy time right before Christmas so it was quite crowded. Parking was a challenge, but...Christmas. However we were able find several items, books and dvds, for which we have been looking. We were impressed with how well it was maintained quickly they kept checkout moving in the midst of Christmas crowds and chaos. We will definitely make a point to stop the next time we pass through. And well organized, while they don't have an inventory per say, the books are organized by genre or author (which is great for a elementary school teacher looking for picture books which are often over looked). Mckay's is two floors of used musical instruments, used toys, action figures, used video games and consoles, used books, used DVDs, used records, used cassettes, used manga/anime books, used comic books, used children's books and toys/plushes, funko pop collectibles and you can sell your stuff and make some cash to the store too Super fun place to visit and pass the time the thing is though, for the manga books for example, everything is priced $.50 to five dollars more than it would cost new. but on the other side of that you can find desirable book titles for 75 cents so it really depends and varies greatly. real fun place to just walk around and look at stuff and read a couple of pages of something you're interested in. it's always buzzing with activity so you don't have employees giving you the stink eye for not buying anything or following you around because everyone is so busy also, just random, there's a lot of punks (good punks), misfits, alternative and grunge people here which a relief coming from out of town. McKay's is my favorite used bookstore in Knoxville. It has a huge selection of books and several other forms of entertainment media. The only downsides are the weird organization system (trade paperbacks are mixed in with hardcover, some new releases are segregated and some are mixed in with their genre) and the wacky pricing (some gems are $2 and some are $16, they charge $15 for BoM hardcovers when I can get them brand new for $9 directly from BoM). Despite these issues, I still find treasure every single time I stop by and the staff is always very friendly. read more

Holy books galore ya'll! This was overwhelming to us to be honest with you. We weren't ready for what we were walking into on this one. The road to our hotel passed by this location and as soon as we saw a book store, we wanted to go. The parking lot is rather large and it was busy with a lot of people in and out. The inside is two-stories and the sections are pretty clearly marked. The downstairs is mostly books and games. The board book section for babies was a little disappointing, but there was plenty other interesting finds to keep us happy. We found several hard cover books for his mom from the author she enjoys. We also found a few books in the fantasy realm for the hubs. I passed on getting anything but I think it was just too much to take in and focus on at the time! McKay's is a little bit back from the road so keep your eyes open. Next door to McKay's is Campbell's Pool and Spa. Funny enough, years ago this big parking lot was the old Buick dealership. :) McKay's Used Books and CDs sells just that. Books, CDs, DVDs, BluRay DVDs, VHS, Records, Video Games, etc. SELLING YOUR STUFF: You can bring your stuff you no longer want and sell it to them. Some they take. Some they will not. They offer you CASH, or TRADE Credit. If you plan to return, take the trade credit. I always find something I never planned on buying. This place is usually crowded but extremely crowded on Saturdays in particular. CDS & Records are upstairs. Everything else is downstairs. Go check it out and add to your collection. This was my first visit to a McKay's used book, CDs and DVDs store. It won't be my last. I was impressed with how many books, music and movies they have. Let me tell you, they have so much that they have two floors in here. Now, if you don't want to use the stairs, they do have elevators. You can find bargains on here but sone items seem kind of high. I saw one cd in here selling for $7.50 that you can buy new at Walmart for $5. However, I saw some CDs for 50 cents to 80 cents but come with the words scratched on it. I don't know if this means a couple songs will have skip on it or not. read more
