Vladimir is the real deal! Great funky little shoe repair filled with professionalism. The business was established in the early 1950s and he took over a few years ago. There are some new supplies one can purchase etc. like shoe polish and laces. The best thing was that he fixed my Birkenstocks on the spot, didn't charge enough. I am a dedicated customer now. My father and his family ran a full service barbershop in the 50s in the San Francisco Financial District. I remember that customers would get their shoes shined while they were getting a haircut and I always loved the smell of shoe polish. I've been coming here for 6 years. I think it's a hit or miss. I've been lucky coz all the times I've come here my shoes were repaired not to mentioned 3 pairs were vintage Chanel shoes and 1 Celine purse. He's a bit slow but I still got all my shoes in time. Came here to get my husband's boots shined for the first time, for the academy. I believe only one person works there, as he was the only one there in the small shop. He asked how quickly I needed them & I said within a week. I paid the $34 up front for "law enforcement shining". After that time had passed, my husband called for an update & the man said he would have them ready by 3 pm that day. So my husband went after work, got there around 330, & the shop was closed, despite the hours saying he's open until 5 pm. He called several times & never got a call back. The following day, the man called me to let me know the boots were ready, as they were under my name & phone number. We finally were able to pick them up & they looked great, but the customer service was extremely unreliable. I tried to give him a second chance, & bring another pair of boots down for the same level of shine. His store hours on the door & on Yelp said he opens at 830, so arrived 5 minutes early & waited 25 minutes -- never opened. I called the store & ended up leaving a voicemail, never heard anything. I reached out on Yelp & he said he had an appointment, so he wouldn't be open until "after 12". I decided to call before going back down there at 1215, & he never picked up. From what we have seen, his final product looks great, but the customer service & reliability has made us go else where for our needs. You never know when he's going to open/close for the day, & we have wasted time waiting around for him. read more

Although trying to figure out when he was open was a little bit harder. They are the epitome of customer service and quality work. I first went to another shoe repair place (in Fairfield) before going to McKay. The place in Fairfield told me they said they could not repair my shoes. The person at the front desk talked a lot about the many reasons why they could not repair my shoes. He finally said the light color was hard to match, and there was nothing they could do. They suggested I go buy another pair of shoes. I decided to get a 2nd opinion. I did a google search and found McKay's so I went to them. They didn't talk much. Within 2-3 minutes, they took my shoe, went to the back, repaired it, and returned with an amazingly well done job. Rant: Vladimir at McKay's Shoe Service, 75 Doray Dr, Pleasant Hill. I wish I said something before another brave woman spoke up on Next Door. That's the thing about predators...we write their behavior off like it was some unintended social faux pas. Multiple women had almost identical experiences, as shared on next door and yelp. Vladimir is a sexual predator, and I do not say this lightly. Vladimir does terrible work for jacked up prices, but the main reason I'm leaving this 1 star review is due to his inappropriate behavior. I had three interactions with Vladimir. The first was to drop off my shoes and explain what I needed. He had me pay $55 upfront for minor repairs on three pair of shoes, which I thought was unusual without seeing the end result but paid up. The second interaction was to pick up my shoes only to find out that he "forgot" to do two pair of them, necessitating a third trip. The third time, I pretended like I was on the phone when I picked up because the previous two times were that uncomfortable. I thought he would be less inappropriate with my kids present, he was not. When we would shake hands, he wouldn't let go. The term "undressed me with his eyes" is apropos...he would slowly scan me from head to toe and linger on my breasts. I speak Spanish, so he called me Bonita and tell me I was beautiful, did I have a boyfriend? Was I married? He asked personal questions that went beyond professional curiosity. He would prolong my leaving, the second time he actually positioned himself between me and the door. When I put on my repaired boots...that looked and felt no different from when I dropped them off....he knelt down to "assist" me, and touched my leg. The second time I went, my daughter happened to be with me and he commented on my 13 year old being beautiful like her mother. My daughter said he kept looking at her in a gross way. That was the only time I brought her with because of it. My 10 year old immediately picked up on it and commented, "mommy, Vladimir likes you...." I felt dirty each time we interacted. Here's a pic of just one of my pair of boots he was supposed to fix...$30 for new laces, the reason I went with it was to make sure the bobbles were included with new laces. Check out the photos...they look worse now than when I brought them in. Vladimir is a predator. If that's not enough reason to go elsewhere, hopefully his shotty work is. Lastly and least important, he kept trying to make me buy some crappy used shoe items, like shoe racks, sprays and something to put inside the boots to help them keep their shape. When I'd say no, he'd continue being pushy. It seems like mine was not an isolated experience. There were at least 7-8 other women who echoed the same experience. read more

I have had a few times in the past where he has not been there during his posted business hours or promised my shoes back on time and they are not ready. I must admit he does decent job but just is unpredictable. We always prepay as requested so its very disappointing when things don't go as planned. Today was the last straw...Dropped my shoes off to be resoled and polished on June 27 to be picked up after July 6th. Long story short when I walk in with my ticket he hands me the wrong pair of shoes...ok..notso bad..once he finds my shoes they look the same as they did 2 weeks ago..He said he is busy and needs more time.
