My usual cobbler recently retired, so I was hesitant to try a new place. A close friend had two pairs of boots repaired here recently, which convinced me to give this place a shot. I brought in my own soles to replace the old, worn-out ones on my Guidis and had a great experience. Miguel seemed super knowledgeable and initially recommended stitching the soles, which I agreed to at first. After doing a bit more research, I called back after I had already dropped the boots off and asked if we could keep the soles cemented instead to preserve the original Guidi construction. He was completely understanding and accommodated the change without any issue. Turnaround was fast! I got my boots back within just a few days. This shop is a treasure. Miguel Herrera does the repairs, and his work is top grade. Miguel explains what is really necessary, and he does not push unnecessary work. Miguel's rates are reasonable. And, he stands behind his work, to a remarkable extent. I needed replacement soles for my boots. Actually, I really only needed to replace the heels, and Miguel made that clear; however, since the entire sole would need replacement in a few years, I asked for replacement of the entire sole. That was my idea; Miguel did not push it. Rates: At first, I thought his rates were high: $110 to replace and repair the soles. However, I later did some research. Miguel used a Bentley-grade Vibram sole, which sells for over $50. And, I needed more than that, because I had waited too long, and the midsole needed to be rebuilt. With parts and labor, $110 is a bargain. Standing behind his work: The Bentley soles added significant weight to the boots. Miguel said that if I was uncomfortable with the weight, he would replace the soles...for no additional cost...with something lighter, something more like what I had had before. Well, the boots ARE heavier, but I'm getting used to that. If I were to ask for a replacement, he would lose the $50+ he spent on the soles. For him to go that far in order to ensure customer satisfaction is, I think, remarkable. Miguel is also a really nice guy. So, no matter how far you live from Lafayette, this is where you should bring your shoes. I live about 40 minutes away, and I do not regret the drive [although I did manage to do this on a day when I had to be in Walnut Creek anyway]. Five stars, a galaxy of stars. read more

This place did quality work on my heel tip replacements. The owner was pleasant and there was no fuss. You have to pay when you drop off your shoes, which I was a little leery about. Having recently retired, I wanted to put my several pairs of office dress shoes away in my closet looking good. I was surprised when the bill for what I thought would be a simple shine was $20/pair. Nordstrom charges $7. But I paid -in advance, as required- and hoped that the finished product would justify the high cost. I picked up my shoes today because they were done sooner than I had been promised. Honestly, they are all just beautiful, as if new. One pair that had been looking particularly sad looks remarkably fresh and alive. This store is the classic example of "you get what you pay for." I'll never take my shoes anywhere else. Again One-Stop delivered! My husband Miguel took a pair of 40+ years old Bally shoes to see what Miguel (at One-Stop Shoe Care) could do. Favorites of my husband's and they fit like gloves. He just wanted to see if they could be "salvaged." Miguel, always up for a challenge made suggestions, and then the magic happens. When we picked them up my husband couldn't tell which one Miguel had fixed; they were so expertly repaired, and polished too! Just like new! Truly, where artistry meets skill. A side note: one sole was quite worn and Miguel suggested a re-sole. They discussed and thought that as the shoes were not worn frequently anymore a re-sole expense was not necessary. (Refused service and didnt want any business from me.) I don't often write reviews, but I'm hoping I can save someone else some time. I brought in a pair of brogan-style leather boots for a polish. These shoes are about 10 years old, and they started out as a grey color with a hint of brown. The last person I took them to did a good job the first time, but the second time he polished them, they came out with an olive green or chartreuse tint. I would prefer to maintain the original color, so I wanted to try having them polished with a grey polish, or at least clean them up to undo the yellow-green tint. I arrived to One-Stop and explained my situation, but they refused to do anything to my shoes. At first, the gentleman said he could use whatever polish I wanted but he couldn't die the shoes and didn't want me to be unhappy with the outcome. I said that was fine, and that I wasn't expecting the color to be perfect, but I wanted them cleaned and to have them polished with a grey polish instead of green. (You can still see sections of the shoe where the original color is intact and obviously something was done to them to change the color at the previous cobbler.) However, he changed his tune and said that my best bet would be to contact the manufacturer to get the color and original polish. If I brought that back to him, he could polish them for me. He also pointed out that the sole has some sections requiring repair, but he didn't offer to do that for me either. Since he doesn't want to do a polish or repair, I shifted gears and I told him that I couldn't find laces to replace the original waxy ones, but he said I could wax them myself or replace them. I said I had tried to find them online before, but I couldn't identify what kind they were. He said they looked like regular round cotton dress shoe laces that had been waxed by the manufacturer. If I wanted the same kind, I would have to measure the diameter myself.....He had a wall of laces, so he could have shown me which ones to buy or at least measured them for me since I was already here... It wasn't closing time, and we were both polite from beginning to end....It was bizarre to that he didn't want to provide any services to me or even sell me new laces. Well...he got what he wanted. Miguel and his wife Rosalita are simply the best! On an extremely hot day last week, I biked in to get my leather flats cleaned/polished and fitted with some new insoles. As I was at the counter paying, I passed out due to heatstroke and Rosalita caught me from falling on the ground! They sat me in a chair, gave me some water and a banana, and made sure I was okay. After a few minutes of rest, I was able to call for a ride back home. Came back two days later to pick up my shoes to find them good as new. I have been a customer for multiple services and the most recent was me bringing in two pairs of shoes and my sister's leather purse that had oil stains on it. I was skeptical that fixes could be made to a couple of the items because they just seemed too far gone, however, Miguel expertly consulted with me on each item and made recommendations giving me various options and sharing what the costs were. I just picked up the items yesterday and I am beyond blown away!
